Hey! The “sound the orchestra plays to let you know they’re ready” is actually a final check that the instruments are all in tune with each other. Most will tune to Concert A but instruments with more than one thing to tune (such as violins and other multi-stringed instruments) will also go through other notes to check they are also in tune.

Actually the orchestra sound is an orchestra tuning their instruments before their performance
shouldnt they have that done before the performance?
@@theskilledsnake Usually they are, but when a performance starts the first chair violinist, also known as the soloist plays a tuning note to tune to his violin. Its much better for the whole orchestra to be in tune with an instrument in the orchestra rather in tune with a predetermined note in a tuner. I was in concert band last year and I have to play the tuning note.

Hey! The “sound the orchestra plays to let you know they’re ready” is actually a final check that the instruments are all in tune with each other. Most will tune to Concert A but instruments with more than one thing to tune (such as violins and other multi-stringed instruments) will also go through other notes to check they are also in tune.
honestly, it’s mostly for show, but yes, it’s an orchestra “tuning” before a concert. in reality, the actual tuning happens in the rehearsal prior. sean, please… that cracked me up
As an orchestra performer, hearing Jack mention the ps3 start sound reminded me of when I had to explain it to people lol.
It's not really to tell you that we're ready, it's for us to check to see if our instruments are in tune :)
I'm not in an orchestra and even I knew that as well. I have the upmost respect for you, my friend! If you don't mind me asking, what do you play? If I could go back in time, I would have taken up the drums.
