Thanks! 👍👍👍👍🇺🇸
Hindsight, but still interesting
I always wondered why, once it became clear that Japanese defenses were concentrated in the south, were extremely dangerous and costly to assault, and the airfields were already in operation, couldn’t the Americans just lay down a thick and deep series of defensive lines, booby traps, etc, and simply wait for the Japanese to come to them. Does anyone know why this wasn’t possible?
Sure…we wanted the airfields to carry the battle to the main Islands.
@@jameshill113 But According to the video, we had them on the first day. We were even using them to launch air strikes.
@@DavidE-vc8gythanks to USN Seabees built up the airfields and defended them also. They never get some cred. They built everything for the Marines.
Well done. Thank you. My uncle Wallace Turner was on LCT 1265 pictured. Okinawa was the landing he never wanted to talk about.
Idk but I guess it wasnt
I always thought it was the Japanese used Okinowins as human shields. Not so?
Where did you hear otherwise? I’ve listened to the entire recording and at no time did it talk about using the locals as shields although there were many accidental shootings.
Not literally but when they abandoned the shuri line they did mix into the civilians which caused many to die.
