Someone should have distributed leaflets that said the Japanese government had improperly modified bushido and that under proper bushido it was expected and honorable to switch to the victor’s side.

But the "oka bombs" had only 1 hit, according to the history I've read. Pretty sad. Even if it was more, considering how many went out on these "missions". What waste of human life they were. Just like the kamikaze planes. So sad. Just like the Germans fighting when all was lost. War is an enormous waste of young men's lives. 😢😢😢

By the end of the war-indeed, by late 1944- the American navy had close to one hundred aircraft carriers of all types. The majority of these carriers were so-called escort carriers. However, I wonder if the Japanese high-command would have continued with their Kamikaze effort had they known the actual number of carriers the US navy had afloat.

Seems like the Japanese leadership spent a lot of time weeping. Is that part of their culture?

Weeping seems less a sign of weakness in Asian cultures and more a show of compassion for loss of honor but sadly not for loss of lives.

"All 248 carrier aircraft were lost, most going down with their ships, along with several cruiser- and battleship-launched float planes. However, most Japanese pilots were rescued; only 36 were lost on the carriers and 74 in the air, mostly from Hiryu."

If Japan had Not Embraced a pseudo superiority complex throughout its history The aforementioned Act's, whilst Fighting a War would not have Occured! Assuming that Poetry, Honor,Intelligence are somehow Acceptable in the pursuit of Death is in my opinion incredibly Flawed to say the least.

Good points/questions. All countries assume cultural superiority and prop up their own superiority with self serving standards. One must reluctantly concede that failure to win in warfare refutes ALL arguments for cultural superiority.

Fascinated by Japan since my younger days I lived there for 18 months and that was enough. A culture obsessed by their Japaneseness. They have a particular origin myth that's deeply ingrained even in young, modern Japanese. Nazi concepts of the master race have nothing on the Japanese. Given the chance they'd do it all again.

I experienced the same in my stay, Keeping the emperor on his throne preserved those myth and guarantied the continuity of their elitist culture of mystical submissiness to the divine call for domination. Given the chance they'd do it all again.

The Japanese have never made it a secret that they believe strongly in their racial superiority. It's a big part of the reason why they believed that they could overcome the USA's superior material advantages in WWII.
They were absolutely convinced that their troops were better in every way and that they could not possibly be defeated. It also explains why they were so brutal to their enemies. In their minds, other people were inferior to them and unworthy of their respect.
