I've found the secret: at 00:59 we see the tell tale stitching of a great panoramic shot which is lined up nicely. In 1980? His Analog SLR camera would not have stitched those images together by itself. I know what your thinking, "Was it Faerie Magicke?" Good Heavens, no; the truth is arguably less convoluted.
Obviously, Mr Lansburg hadn't the time to piece his photographs into a wide panoramic picture; It takes many chemicals to develop film, and they would not have fit in his backpack. He must have quickly deduced that field-development would have been an ineffective use of his time.
So why do we see an anachronistic panoramic stitch in 1980 film? We know Mr Lansburg shielded his film, but he couldn't have anticipated the environment inside his bag would have been ~157 degrees centigrade. This is not enough to melt the cellulose nitrate the film was composed of, but sufficient to degrade the bromochloroiodide separating each frame. The vertical separations between each 35mm cell had indeed degraded and and effectively stitched together his last few photographs into an amazing five-wide panorama of the St. Helen's explosion.|
In modern times, we can take advantage of the auto-stitching of wide panoramic pictures saved on digital storage thanks to the Lansburg chip. Once more, at 00:59 we see the very first example of a panoramic stitch, joining pictures together. These days, there's a Lansburg chip on every device with a camera in it. That's not Faerie Magicke, it's just science.
That's why I say Lansburg, nice shot. What a good shot, man.

He knew his death was inevitable but with the final few moments he had he would do what no one has done or would do intentionally, takes a person who is settled in their mind and accepting of their fate to stand in the face of death and not cower to it, besides the man couldnt run because of the size of his cohones.
