Can't believe you missed the most important part of this story that the hand writing was identified by a woman who saw it on a billboard that the police had posted the handwriting from the brochure because they had absolutely no leads and hoped someeone would identify it. and she matched it to handwriting she saw on a receipt from a contractor and she did a side by aide comparison and she knew it was him and called the police this was incredible and was what solved the case and they never would have solved it otherwise

Yeah, poor guy. When I heard that only the girls will go, I IMMEDIATELY thought that the father should have go with them as well. Different times, back then, you should had at least one (trust-able) adult man with you when you go on trips.
And on top of that they had to rule that poor father out. So you’re grieving and on top of that you have to prove you’re not involved.

I remember a documentary on this in which Hal gave an interview, and he said that he thought the lethal injection was too quick and if he had his choice he would have wanted the man to be drowned and brought back 3 times so he could feel what his family members went through.
i once heard of a man trying to get it on with a stallion, he died because a horse's pp is way too much for a human's large intestine. Seeing this guy didn't just drowned them, but diddled them first, I say, drown him the 3 times then give him "the horse."

I shutter to think how the memories of Michelle's uncle probably came back to haunt her as that "other pig" did the same thing once more to her, her mother and sister only to suffer a horrific death after the fact.😤😡... You didn't tell the most interesting part of the whole story: How he got caught! They put his handwriting on a billboard. Someone who was a customer of Chandler's had a receipt from work he did on that person's house.

These stories are horrifying. I wonder if the woman put up any kind of fight. I would have been kicking and tried to head butt him or something. But I wasn't there so maybe that was impossible. Just makes me so mad...all these stories like this. Wish his death sentence had been the same as what he did to his victims.

This is so sad, the entire story. First the disgusting uncle who hurt the young girl and then to end up in such an awful situation with this murderer. I hope Hal is able to find peace in his life. I feel so heartbroken for him. I cannot even imagine.
Thank you for covering this. The other version of the tale I had seen didn't have the backstory and painted the dad as unfeeling and uncaring about what happened to his family. Sounds like he was overwhelmed my the magnitude of the tragedy that befell him and his family instead.

This story has haunted me since I first heard it years ago. That father must be shell shocked having lost his entire family. His kids and wife, his brother and his idiotic mother who thinks her grandbaby was lying. What an absolute nightmare!

I saw a little girl riding her bike in town late at night with no lights on her bike and she looked like she didn’t know where she was going and I wanted to help but I felt like someone might think I was going to do something to her so I stayed across the street and asked if she needed help

You left out how he was discovered. He got away with this crime for many years however the text that was believed to be written by the suspect on that brochure was blown up and put on a bulletin board and happened to be seen by a woman who instantly recognize the handwriting. She remembered having a gentleman come and do electrical work in her home and he had written her a receipt up for the work she still had that receiptAnd turned it over to law-enforcement. It was analyzed and compared to the handwriting found on the brochure and was determined to be a match.
Edit: by some strange coincidence, The episode of forensic files which features this story in an episode called waterlogged is playing right now as I just turned on my TV!
I would have been SO effin freaked out. Such a sadistic person living and working just like everyone else for one... Two, wondering if they had been thinking about doing like that to you/what they might have done to you.

Ever since I discovered this channel three nights ago, I've been watching tens and tens of videos.
Most of the time watching the videos, then reading the comments endlessly.
I'm having my finals coming up like in a week and I haven't even started my preparation but I'm super addicted to this channel lol.
It's like I'd watch even at 4:30 am, even when I'm having panic attacks while watched i couldn't stop.

Even if they had declined the boat party, they were in danger already.
The guy knew were they were staying, and that there was only 1 woman and 2 teens.

My thoughts exactly. They are now incidentally complicit in their murders, most likely. They victim blamed when there were pictures and video of the trauma and the abuse.
Accepting someone you love dearly is a horrible person is tough. But living with the fact you defended a horrible person and unintentionally caused the victim's murder is tougher.

Everyone says their goal is to not end up in one of Mr. B's stories, but honestly if I go out and shovel extreme or messed-up way I would think it's an honor to have my story told by him. The attention to detail and obvious care and hard work he puts in does every victims story justice

My bestie and I are planning a trip and we discussed how our trip would go.
1. Do not walk away with anyone.
2. Do not allow anyone onto our room.
3. If you do not finish your drink before walking away from it, leave it.
4. Under no means will we separate from one another.
make sure you have at least 3 other trusted friends/family members in a life360 group together so that your locations are always able to be tracked. i do this with my girlfriend and our group chat so if anything happens we can all discuss it together and quickly figure out what to do from there. we’ve actually had a friend that was taken by her significant other and her parents couldn’t find her. once we heard the news, we remembered our life360 group and found her location in this weird apartment complex a long way away. my dad, girlfriend and i drove out there and knocked on the door. significant other answered, we told them the situation and they asked what we were talking about, we showed her location and they went to get her. long story short, she was there against her will and the s/o was arrested and imprisoned for kidnapping.
Smart! And let loved ones know your itinerary! And where you might be on certain days, if possible.

Whenever my daughter works late, is out of town and uses Uber or Lyft, she always sends me a link so I can watch her route and make sure she’s safe.
In short...just use common sense.
I've never felt worse hitting the like button on a video before. The fact that Hal made it 22 years to see the death of the man who destroyed everything good in his life is a testament to his strength to survive for his wife and daughters. I don't know if I could survive such tragedy.

This crime is probably one of the reasons why people aren't as loose and open around strangers anymore. The 80s were a time where things like hitchhiking and hanging out with strangers were normal. But situations like this are so scary and sad. It's always better to be safe than sorry. The world is full of evil.

Props for the hotel manager who, of all people in these stories, took suspicious circumstances seriously and immediately reported it to police. No one ever does that. It may have been too late here, but at least he took it seriously. So many tragedies could be avoided if more people acted like him.
That's a really good point. Because of him, they were able to stop a serial killer. Who knows how many lives were saved because of that?

I'm a little disturbed by this comment. Their stuff was in a room untouched for a week the hotel didn't notice that they hadn't come home. I don't really feel like this guy did a great job at all.

@@faeryfeathers He reported it as soon as he knew about it - doesn't mean he's the best manager, but he did a good thing when the opportunity presented itself. Also, who knows why no one noticed; no immediate reason to believe the manager screwed anything up there. Could just be the way the cleaning schedule was set up or something else. Could even be the fault of a different manager - doesn't matter. The point is, something was suspicious, and he reported it as soon as he knew about it. That's something more people need to do, and it's a rarity in these kinds of stories.

Those poor women. That is probably the cruelest thing I have ever heard. Not only how he killed them but making the other women watch? What a monster. Glad he isn’t breathing air anymore.
This is absolutely heartbreaking. The panic and fear those women went through is absolutely unthinkable.
It's situations like this that make me upset that the murderer gets such an easy death. He gets to relax and just go to sleep.
I'm a firm believer that anyone truly guilty, beyond a shadow of a doubt, of such horrific acts should be put to death in the exact same manner they used to commit murder. Eye for an Eye, not sleep tight!

@@bahmdiggity9577 That’s actually not 100% true. That’s what they used to think & told people. Most tiles, lethal injection isn’t nearly as “humane” as they’ve led people to believe. The one being led to death actually does suffer quite a bit. They feel quite a bit of serious “discomfort” before dying. Some don’t go to sleep, at all. They don’t stop till they die.

However, I doubt that it compares to the fear and pain that their victims go through. If their victim were subjected to 10 hours of rape and torture, they should get 10 hours of rape and torture. There are a multitude of demented people in the world who do not act for fear of capture, put them to work. Sounds messed up right? It isn't if their particular proclivities have a way out by punishing someone who raped, tortured and murdered a child. Then rather than being a bane on society they have a purpose and a place. And if you were one of those people who had a thought it might be fun to give in to a twisted desire, you might think twice if you knew the punishment was as sick as the thoughts in your head.

To think.. not only could mom not protect her from “uncle”..she then loaded her on boat with strange man to be assaulted again..then killed. A few years back my mother and sister were on vacation in Dublin. On the flight, there was this charming guy talking to my sister (we're german, my mother is not speaking english, my sister was studying english at the time) about the whole flight, getting in touch with them. So when they were about to land, he offers them to come visit them at his house in the mountains, watching the sunset together. My sister was still REALLY naive at the time and thought this was a good idea. My mother, thank god, wasn't having any of it, but she couldn't understand what they were talking about. My sister even gave him the location of their hotel. Later my sister told my mother and she was shocked. They weren't leaving the hotel that evening but from their room, they could actually see the guy from their window, pulling up with his car, waiting for them. To this day I think, if my sister did this trip alone, without my mother, she'd be dead. Thank god my mother was there to keep her safe.
Traffickers use similar tactics as well. They kidnap people and sell them to the highest bidder. I'm glad your mom is level headed and knew it could be dangerous.

The more you fear something, the more it finds you. In this case, Michelle went through something pretty traumatizing, and against all odds, found herself face to face with another evil man. These creeps seem to have a trauma radar somehow. It's no coincidence that once someone experiences something traumatic, there is a high probability that they will go on to experience other traumas that are similar to some degree, if not worse ( in this case, raped again and then brutally murdered). This is actually a verifiable fact and I've come to realize there is a scary amount of truth to these statistics. You can't trust anyone, and it's better that you just don't. I'm wondering if some part of Michelle was actually hesitant about going, but decided to ignore it when her Mother and sister convinced her it would be okay. It's easy to believe that victims of horrible crimes are just overly paranoid, but maybe there is a legitimate reason for it, as the fearful are sniffed out from 100 miles away. How, I do not know. I just know it's a real thing.
As a trauma specialist, revictimization is so heartbreakingly common for so many even more heartbreaking and ruthless reasons.
You are completely right. I became a "magnet" for physically abusive men, despite looking for all the red flags and being so cautious. After the last one I escaped to a DV shelter, went through serious therapy and decided that I'm going to stay single the rest of my life. I've been happily solo for seven years now.

I myself believe that ending your life should be a human right, we never chose to come into this world. There are many reasons why people's lives are completely miserable, and you should have the choice to humanly end it when they want to.
A few countries have this for elderly people who are very ill, saving them from a painfull and horrible death. But why should a person who is so mentally or physically hurt not have the same choice.
I do believe it should be a thorough process, where you first have to go to seek medical help, including stuff like doctors and therapy sessions, so it's clear all is done to help you.
You should have the right to end your life, and if it's done medically, then you can still gather your friends and family around to say your goodbyes. while you can never do that if the only other option at the moment is the current ways of suicide, where no-one has closure.

Imagine being assaulted by your uncle, then being accused of making the assault up by your relatives. Then during the vacation, a vacation intended for you to unwind and forget all the drama that occurred in your home, a man you chose to trust, assaults not just you, but your loved ones as well, after which you were forced to witness their grim demise, while awaiting yours. Too cruel. They just wanted a normal life. They didn't deserve any of these.

@@Schmorgus you have to remember the 80’s were different. That’s when children started to go missing more often, but we were still letting kids be kids. The adults, even the cautious ones like me mother, were having to adjust.
It really depends on who it is and where you are, and who you’re with. As a petite blonde woman, I’ve traveled the world and met plenty of good people who helped me find my way.
It’s more about reading people- understanding body language, understanding cultural expressions, and learning what kind of circumstances you were safe in. For example, in most cultures when families are out with their children, you have nothing to fear when a mother asks you if you are lost. That isn’t to say don’t trust your gut. That IS to say, not everyone is out to harm you.
I remember seeing an interview that was done by a friend of the husband/father. He said that after the murder of his wife/children, he often slept on a family friend's couch. The family friends would leave their door unlocked so the husband/dad could come over whenever needed to sleep over.
That’s so heartbreaking. I can’t imagine how horrible he had to have felt. He lost almost everything, all at once.
Lost my partner about two years ago. I also find sleeping on my friend's couch more comforting than my own bed now... My late spouse and I didnt sleep together at night. Makes me wonder.

Wow, just brutal. I was invited onto a boat once when I was 17 by two American men who were tourists when I used to Kabuki cab. I called my mum because I was excited to go and she said, "T, You don't know them and you don't know their intentions." So I realized the danger of it and didn't go.
Probably missed out on a fun trip.
