Hi Danny, thanks so much for doing this! I've heard from at least 10 companies that know me, and knew it was a scam. It's the others that get screwed, and I don't know about it. So if anyone out there was cheated by someone posing as me please reach out to law enforcement!
impersonation is not a crime Steve if a crime has not been committed.

Recently I had everyone who commented in one of my videos replied to by a scammer. Claiming they had won something. I ended up interacting with them and getting three Paypal emails out of them and reported to paypal and other places. 2022 in a nutshell.

I’ve only watched 20% of that video and I’m absolutely shocked at the behavior of these scumbags. None of us should be surprised this isn’t happening every day but it sucks when it hits our community.
There is several scammers that are doing the same thing. They will even use your channel name and channel pics. That's why all winners should be announced in a video and notified to refer to the youtube video.

Thanks for the heads up and alerting others in your line of work know about this. You did right by sharing this with Steve G. At least the fact that this has been reported will give the Authorities something to build a case on. Even if part of it isn’t actionable, with enough reports it can be used to build a case that there was intent to commit a crime.

You should rig up a speaker that will fry his amp when he hooks it up and send him that. Call it the IAED, “improvised amplifier exploding device”
He is probably not going to listen to them but flip them immediately and then a poor unsuspecting soul will get his/her house on fire. Be careful with vigilante justice, you can hurt people who do not deserve it....
I worked with a guy that knew that a neighbor that was stealing his firewood. He drilled a hole in a log and put an m-80 inside of it and put it back in the pile. Well a couple weeks later, the police showed up at his door. Cops said a log exploded in the neighbors fireplace, all he could say was what did that have to do with me, I didn’t give them any wood.

Sadly these things have been going on for a long time. They seem to be getting worse because nobody will do anything about it.
It's difficult to do anything about it without checking to makes sure it's from who it claims to be from. I've email from someone pretending to be a cable provider, even having a web page that looks like the real think (this has happened twice), but the page they were pointing me to was not an HTTPS (secure) page and having an IP number instead of the name of the company. If they ask your SSN, never give it.
RUclips is pro-scammers as well

When I first read the header, I initially thought you were referencing Paul at PS Audio. 😆
There should be a law that people sending false emails and false identity and identity theft are subject to arrest and trial and if found guilty, then quickly jailed. Our laws are way too liberal today, where the guilty seem to have more rights than the victim at times, in this age we live in. Good video recap of events and a warning to all.

One problem with this. There are few laws for internet stuff. Everything is mail fraud or theft of property or money.
Somone has to pay to put these guys up in a hotel, and that what jail is a hotel
With free room and board meantime the honest people have to pay for it with tax dollar's. Insted of jail time just publish his address and phone number with name, he's going to have to move and change his phone number to stopped getting harassed by scam artists.
Its kinda giving him back he own stupid scam. It will teach him a valuable life lesson. And bounous we don't have to pay his room and board and security details or property management.
Sure prison takes away some liberties
But its still a country club compared to jail in other parts of the world.

Authorities are so freaking useless man, I BET that if you had sent something they would say "you sent it to them of your own volition so technically no crime has been committed".
Went thru the same thing with attempted check/identity fraud. The state authorities said next time let them obtain the check and then cash it and wait a couple of weeks to contact us and we'll try to locate them and get your money back. Shhheesh!

There's hundreds of thousands of scammers doing this daily....the authorities rarely, if ever do anything.

Wow! Cannot believe someone would try to scam you out of speakers. Quite bold. A couple of years ago, some scamhole tried to re-sell us our own ads we had already placed (and paid for, of course). I have ZERO patience for these thieves. Too bad law enforcement is not very interested in this kind of crime.

"Old timers" are gonna be almost impossible to scam....but an online resource for newbies and the general public could be helpful.

WOW! That is so lame. I mean, I am a total & permanent Disabled USAF Veteran and people try to scam me all the time for various things. I mean, I'd love to get one of your upgrade kits for my SSCS5...but I will do that when I can budget it...not when I can steal it. Danny, well done. I lost $600 last year from a seller on Canuck Audio Mart here in Canada, who took my money for a pair of drivers and then moved and will now not give me a refund. The admin folks are trying to help but, lessons learned I guess. I am happy to review any of your speakers and I don't have a RUclips channel. Stay safe out there everyone!

Well done Danny! I got scammed by a “seller” - selling a set of Kef Ref 3 that “belonged to his father” - he had an passport driver’s license etc - anyway after I deposited $2400 he disappeared.. and I could do nothing. The police couldn’t help etc. It makes me so sad that people would go to such lengths to defraud other people. AND keep doing it.

caller ID can be misleading, I get scam calls from fake caller ID's and always a different phone number so it can't be filtered out.
when I heard "boost in sales" I knew it was a fake, Steve would NEVER make claims like that about what his "influence" would do, he's too honest and strait forward to make such claims and such statements are absolutely out of character for Steve Guttenberg. Also I am pretty sure he has personally demoed and tested your products several times over and doubt he would need your stuff again to test out again.

Danny, you missed a golden opportunity to really put this guy through. You should have slapped together a bogus pair of speakers and sent them on to him. That way he would have received said goods and then been guilty of committing a crime. Imagine his excitement at getting the speakers, but when hooking them up he realizes that they have 5 dollar drivers and no crossovers and the boxes are stuffed with damp, mouldy towels. Man, have some fun with these jerks.
Yeah I was thinking the same thing take some junky equipment, polish it up, install tracking device, then ship it. Once it's delivered Share the GPS with law enforcement and have them pay the perp a visit

I always thought it was the manufacturer that contacted the assorted reviewers be it RUclips or print media.
I wonder how much real effort the authorities would put into this. Like if you get a credit card scam they have you get the CC company to fix it for you and really we know in some places that non violent property crimes like this are low low low priority.
Well handled Danny, this could have been a great series of videos where at the end a few guys hand deliver the speakers and tune that dude up.

It’s the cancer of “ influencers” and their unethical tactics that seems to be well suited to email scammers .i had one myself two days ago and their language is always a big give away .
