One of the things I have never done before in Final Fantasy 7 is picking up Omnislash on disk one. The problem is that you need plenty of GP to take with you to the Battle Square and before Chocobo breeding becomes available on disk 2 there are few options to choose from for farming for it.
I have tried the Wonder Square and the games there are either too slow or too inconistent to win large amounts of GP in a short a time as possible. The dude that sells GP for gold at the entrance of the Gold Saucer can not appear until disk 2.
However, thanks to some tips shared by my treasured viewers on live stream I now know of a way to farm a healthy amount of GP from BETTING (not breeding which isn't available) at the Chocobo races!
Here is the trick.
1. Exclude betting on any bronze (they kinda look reddish brown) jockeys. Even if they have the best stats.
2. With the chocobos left in the decision making pool, choose the three with the highest speed stats.
3. If the stats are similar, choose based on the color of the jockeys. Platinum (grey) - Gold (yellow) - Silver (blue).
*NOTE*. In my experience, the Chocobos that are in a sprinting animation on the betting screen will lose on the long course but have an advantage on the short course.

Nice explanation bud. I'll be trying this out. Actually just got to the gold saucer for the first visit. Never could understand how the betting worked. The game never explained what the numbers represented on the bets.
This helped me so much in my New Threat mod run. I was trying to get sets of Sneak Attacks and Cat's Bell on the first visit to Gold Saucer and managed it with this guide. It's not perfect but it significantly improves the odds

Note
Normally Enemy Away can be a B clads reward but I've never seen that award available on betting in B class during disc 1.
Betting is pretty useless on Disc 2 and 3 because you'll be able to race your own chocobo then

I always get omni on disc 1 but im quite good at the basketball game so i get the double up a few times then im good to go. Never tried this thou will test this on my next playthrough.

playing on pc version modded with 7th heaven (no major gameplay mods, just graphics and a few QoL options), I lost my first 3 races.... but then won 7 in a row before losing again. Good method!

I can confirm that this method works best. Ran 25 races won 20 lost 5 = 80% win ratio.

Amazing guide, my only problem is I just encountered a bet where I ran into 4 bronze riders. I figured to bet off stats at that point for the 3rd bet but was wondering what you or others would recommend in that situation.

Once you get to racing with your own Chocobo rather than betting on the CPU, do you have to pay any Gil or GP to enter a race personally?
Nice video, really helped make this mini game easier to understand. But I've noticed that the amount of GP can be random, I was trying out this method and somehow I got 150 GP from one race which is insane. It's half the amount of winning the 3d boxing game in the arcade so I just I put it out there.
Well it must be something random going on cuz after 30 plus bets I finally won 1 using this method… and got a whooping 5gp… and thats on a 200 gil bet

This method definitely works when there are bronze riders in a 3-3 split but when almost all are bronze it’s random or none of them are bronze it’s speed fersure

Wow this strategy works quite well. I was doing it so much I ran out of gil and only was able to bet 2 boxes on my last try but I won and was given 150GP!!

This just my opinion. But I think it makes for a better story if you wait until getting Cloud back in Disc 2 before getting Omnislash.
This is ridiculous. Whoever "Prey" is, they are an absolute CARD COUNTER. This miracle guide made and tested by you guys, first 2 tries, 2 wins instantly. netted me 305 GP on the spot! This is amazing!
I’ve heard/seen so many different ‘strategies’ and they all end practically the same.
RNG.
There probably influence on stats, etc however. But not much.
The prevailing theory is ‘highest stamina wins 1 out of 3 times’. I’ve had losing streaks go up to almost 12 with this theory.
Then it’s ‘highest stam and highest speed’, and I’ve had equal results.
I think there is a level of RNG that occurs each time.
Where every 2-4 races, stats determine the winner.
I get that they wouldn’t want a definitive formula to prevail for any of these games, so RNG needs to play a role…
But I also believe that there is a certain level of ‘unfinished’ programming that also exists. (I.E. 3D fighter)
Thx mate, most guides just say "wait until you race yourself" but if you want to get omni and/or XP+ when aerith is still around you have to do it on disc 1

This definitely isn't full proof, but it can be consistent at times. AND, very good info on how the betting works... and if you have alot of gil and the 3× speed feature, you will still earn GP quite fast.... 10 minutes of betting and I EASILY had enough GP to rack up battle points and get omnislash! DISC 1 👍.. great video thanks 👍
How much gil you think I should save up to start betting, around 100,000 gil to be safe ?

I won over 700 gp using this method and was able to win enough in battle square to get the omnislash on disc 1. I only needed 80 gp to get that on battle square and have more than enough left to go after championship belts and speed plus materia.

The highest reward item I see is worth 30 gp. I'm thinking the higher ones aren't there yet for me.
failed the first 3 attempts but so far havent lost since, just had a wild one with 3 bronze and 2 non-bronze sprinters, turned out to be a short course, put the bet with the non-sprinter paired with the sprinters, all for a tranq..
Be sure to check what prize you won (turbo ethers and megalixers giver more gp)
It won't even let me get into the battle arena without triggering the death cutscene
TIP: If Joe and his black Chocobo, Teioh, appears (none in C, rarely in B, occasionally in A, frequently in S), always bet on him. The mountain and river part of the track don’t slow him down.
How about just running in and out of the entrance and exchange gil for gp

Why you cant bet 6.1 6.2 and so on?
Depending on the won items that get traded, you can get like 300 GP in a single win. Depending on how strong Cloud is (level 45+ with level 3 materias and an enemy skill materia with Big Guard and Aqualung makes this quite easy) and how well you know the game, 100GP is more than enough to get the BP needed. Most matches will average a little over 10-11k BP, so it only took me 5 runs, with no failed attempts. Make sure you get good at manipulating the slots for the best results. Also, if you're able to complete the Wutai side quest first, then you can very easily farm X-potions from enemies around Wutai. Bringing 20 or so of them with you will also make the battle square more trivial to beat. You may be able to farm them without doing the quest if you avoid the trigger spot for Yuffie to steal your materia. If you already have the W-item materia, then just dupe elixirs.

Original FF7 was very damn large. It didn't fit on one disk, so the game was on three disks when it was released.

Followed this guide, unfortunately its not working for me, did 10 races picking the fastest racers, ignoring bronze jockeys, and won 1 race out of the 10 getting a miserly 5 GP.
on 1 race the slowest racer at 89km came in 1st. feels like the odds are stacked against you. playing PS4 version on a PS5.

Joseph Ram yes really! This game has lots of secrets and early sidequests I never knew of! The walkthroughs are to linear. Fuzz doesnt make it linear. Fun to watch and play ff7 also again on my LED screen in 2019🙃

@@Feanor1972 lol Nothing to feel dumb about ... Trust this took me hours and almost an entire notebook to figure out.... I was super determined... I scoured the internet and there was /is no real information and someone very briefly mentioned the Jockey colors so I tested it out and it worked! I'm just glad that it can now help a lot more people who were stuck with GP in disc 1 and had to wait till chocobo breeding to get any.
