A special thanks to Rodney Dangerfields family for allowing RUclips to show the wonderful comedy of Mr Dangerfield. I met Rodney at his club in 1980. He was so kind and loving, like a favorite uncle. Great memories!
And Dean Martin. Ed Sullivan show. (No,I never got to watch any of their shows.....that was WAY before my time......) . "Whaddya mean heaven's full?" the moment Rodney Dangerfield had died, the Holy Trinity had said "We're sorry, heaven not good for you. And hell's would be scared of him. Sent him to purgatory."😅😅😅 What,no rim shot?😮😮😮
Time has made me appreciate that I was able to see Rodney live at Radio City Music Hall in NYC in the early ‘80’s (great seats and he was sweating like crazy) I remember: “I come from a real stupid family...during the Civil War my great-grandfather fought for the West”.
I LOVE THIS MAN.THERE IS NO ONE,WHO CAN EVEN COME CLOSE TO "RODNEY"...HE ALWAYS HAD MY "RESPECT"...REST IN PEACE, THANKS FOR THE LAUGHS. SAY HELLO TO JOAN RIVERS.😇🌟😢
Johnny Carson was not only a great comedian, he was also one of the greatest "straight man" in comedy. For a fun experiment, close your eyes, after Rodney sits down on the couch, and listen to Carson murmuring prompts and themes. Two brilliant comics. God bless them both.
This is what made dangerfield on Carson show so good... Johnny which just kinda play off whatever Rodney was saying in almost an agreeing matter which stemmed Rodney to just keep firing those hits... It was so well done and so subtle.. Gotta hand it to Leno to try and carry that same torch when Rodney was on his show too.. he tried to do same thing thing but Johnny was ultimately better at it
He was really on fire with his hilarious jokes that night. One of his BEST Tonight Show performances. What a Master Comedian who is dearly missed on a show that is also dearly missed.
Love You Rodney ✝👍 you were the best and i look forward to watching these clips over and over because they are simply that good 👍 Shout Out to his family... Thank You for allowing these on RUclips much appreciated 👍 They just make my day. 😊
Just because you people are out of touch and don't bother to actually look for anything that isn't shoved in your face doesn't mean good comics don't exist anymore. But who are we kidding. You folks are so bitter, you'll talk shit on any comic no matter how good they are.
Carson's skill as host is never more evident than when Dangerfield appears. Compare Rodney's appearances with Leno, Letterman, etc. with Dangerfield on Carson. Carson was the perfect straight man, always feeding him with lines or reactions to make Dangerfield funnier and faster. Other hosts respected Dangerfield too much, and seemed to be in awe of him. Consequently, they did not react fast enough or feed him leading lines. Dangerfield's appearances with other hosts had more dead intervals-even with Leno.
Rodney always struck me as someone who was tormented by his insecurities (even after making it big) and so turned those insecurities into an endless supply of comedic material, knowing all the while it would resonate with a large audience composed of people who were plagued by their own insecurities yet too afraid to admit it.
This was when life was good old fashion fun. When you had all walks of life cracking us up with laughter. There was something comforting in Rodney’s act.
Heh, Rodney, Rest in peace. You just cracked me up for about the millionth time. So good to see Johnny Carson also. We all could sure use your humor today. Miss you both. Eric Clenney
One liner after one liner, building on the previous...this is comedy genius! I tell you they want to make my family a sequel to "Roots." They wanna call it "Fertilizer!"
Of course his ties were straight. He kept adjusting them every five seconds. I've always wondered if that was by design as a way to put an exclamation point on his jokes or if it was an unconscious twitch he did.
I might butcher this but I my favorite Dangerfield line of all time is "My wife, she likes to talk during sex, why just the other day she called me" It always makes me laugh.
One of my favorites was, You know me and my wife are getting old now, just the other day we were laying in bed...and she says Rodney, Rodney, make me laugh..I said you wanna laugh? Go look in the mirror naked.
Watching Rodney and Johnny is like watching a NBA fast break. Rodney has the ball and passes it to Johnny , Johnny gets it and lobs it up in the air , Rodney goes up and slams it through the net, crowd goes wild!
I could hear Rodney's spirit saying: "Even in the Afterlife, I don't get no respect...... When I arrived at the Pearly Gates, I was told to wait an eternity to get in!"
Gene Burnett Yep. Perfect straight man for Rodney. I tell ya Johnny I got it rough. .....Rough, huh? I met a girl who was so fat....Large girl was she? Johnny set him up and Rodney knocked them out of the park. Those were the days. Could never get away with that rice joke these days. PC culture is so fucked up.

I nearly pissed myself laughing .. each line got better and better until you were just laughing so hard practically could not even breathe ! What a great talent and a great guy . Got to meet him in around 1974, then hung out many times , my first boss was a business partner with Rodney , they grew up on Long Island together , were friends and I would drive my boss from ct. into nyc or we would sometimes see him in ct or in Fla. I never got to see him in Vegas but my boss did many times . Rodney would send messages back to me , funny shit to make me laugh! We would have lunch & I tell ya, try eating with Rodney telling you about the waitress, the cook etc. When caddy shack came out we all said his part when they were at the golf clubhouse eating was just classic Rodney fooling around !! Damn he was funny , yet one of the nicest guys off stage .. a sweet guy, generous , of course hilarious , but just a warm, nice guy. I miss him , my old boss passed away too , he was almost as funny as Rodney! The two of them together was a thing to behold ! That generation was the best ! I was known back then as the kid! More precisely , the f ‘Ing kid ! lol miss them days God sure blessed us all with the gift of Rodney , we could sure use him right now .. we gotta take things easy a little , it’s getting too serious out there! We have some really good people in comedy right now , let’s get out and support their live shows ! Rip rodney Dangerfield! 😂 See ya at the club!
David Bellardo Actually, Rodney and Johnny at first got off on the wrong foot. Johnny was angry and wouldn't give him a chance to get on his show. Rodney eventually had to apologize to get the nationwide audience.
According to Biography, Rodney had accused the Tonight Show writers of stealing one of his jokes, and he made it up to Johnny by getting tickets to some big New York event.

This kind of humor is what we need today... Rest in peace Rodney, and Johnny.

What,no rim shot?😮😮😮
@jimoleesyt1577 They could try,but if we get lucky, then it would be like "Close, but no cigar." 😃.
Just like what happened to Married With Children.
A legend that will never be replaced or duplicated. Even when he sat down with Johnny his act went on!
What classics . Wish he was around today
Back when we could still poke fun at ourselves and we weren't so serious all the time. Rodney was the KING
My favorite comedian! I Love Rodney! How could anyone give him a thumbs down. No respect!
I tell ya.
@ekimshield y
Rodney once said: Siskel and Ebert(movie critics) gave him the one finger(pointed upwards).
They give it a thumbs down Because they hate REAL comedy
Lol too true!

I love the way Jonny works with Rodney and agrees with him and doesn’t ask questions just letting Rodney do his thing totally classic!!!
Rodney is one of those rare people you couldn’t imagine him doing anything else other than what he’s doing here.
The good old days of comedy....and Rodney was among the best of the best....RIP Rodney.

Suzanne Pleshette laughing at his jokes makes this one of my all-time favorite Rodney clips.

I agree. Carson was highly underrated as a comedy artist.

The way he covered up the harrowing nature of his childhood with brilliant comedy was amazing. RIP Rodney.

Rodney was the best', it is so nice to see a real comic.
Dr. Vinny Boombotz. One of the best names ever in comedy.
not to mention his nephew, the lawyer, Nicki Pompanice
I think that's Donald Trump's doctor too🤣😂
The Surgeon General offered me a cigarette. What a line. RIP Rodney.

The most respected guy in show business.
Rodney kept it going. I don't know how he did it. What a rhythm.
Yeaa he did!;) he had and more...;) hes mind was full of jokes. Man!;)
That's the cool thing about one-liners. If one falls flat, just wait for the next one.
The greatest stand up comedian in history...period. 👍
almost no one in comedy history has ever got 8 1/2 minutes on Johnny Carson. Rodney was brilliant.
40 years. Where did they go? Hysterical and not a single F bomb.

exactly right. The modern comic is talentless compared to earlier generations.

Michael Modes, yes. But this stand up routine did not.

Rodney was funnier after he sat down.
Johnny's in on it. 🤗
Hardly anyone made Johnny laugh as much as Rodney.

Did Rodney ever look any different? I swear from the early 70s to 2000, his looks never changed. What a classic.
No one is better than him!
Rodney always struck me as someone who was tormented by his insecurities (even after making it big) and so turned those insecurities into an endless supply of comedic material, knowing all the while it would resonate with a large audience composed of people who were plagued by their own insecurities yet too afraid to admit it.
Don't say this much, but he was a genius. Few as funny.
Exactly right. Took his immense pain from life, and became an overnight sensation after 40 years of trying and failing.
He did suffer from depression most of his life. As a result, he made us feel happy.

Wherever I need a good laugh I watch videos old videos of Rodney Dangerfield.
The hangdog delivery with the 1-2 punch, the expressive features, perfect timing, setting up his next shot. Great jokes with the comic looks.

I love the joke where he says he and his wife always smoke after sex. He's had the same pack since 1975. Meanwhile, she's up to three packs a day!
He says, "I met this young girl who called me up and said 'come on over, nobody's home,' so I went over, there was nobody home!"
