    You will still see signs at rugby games saying "bring back Buck"... Legend.

    Ka Mate Haka... He revived the Haka by making the All Blacks perform the Haka correctly. Not like today, but a vast improvement on the 70's version.

    Buck was a legend. I met him in a bar in Tokyo. He's a really down to earth guy, who is all about his community in North Harbour, NZ.

    I know Wayne personally he's on the RSA auckland board with my old man. He is such a humble man but would do whatever necessary when moment required it.

    I marked him when he played for North Harbour. He was a real hard bastard. Now we are both middle age men, and he is still a hard bastard. He was the toughest bastard I have ever played against, and I've played some bloody tough bastards.

    Buck Shelford is definitely a legend, you have to remember that Rugby Union didn’t become professional until 1995, so rugby Union was very different to how it is now. There are way more laws (rules) and regulations now a day’s.

    Y’all realise that the NZ all blacks have the highest winning percentage(80+%) over past 100 years than any other team, franchise or club in sports history!! That includes professional or amatuer(college). Pretty incredible for a country with barely 5 million population. I’m Aussie but my dad is Kiwi so I’m proud of the All blacks

    • @TheMarathonomahos
      @TheMarathonomahos Год назад

      Never been 80%. Has been as high as 77%, which as you say is the highest percentage in any code of international sport, and that was drummed into us before every test, be it I played only half a dozen tests.

    Thanks. Kudos to you for showing us this. On one list Buck is in the top 5 All Blacks of all time, and believe me there have been many great AB's over the decades. He has Mana. It's a NZ word for stature, leadership, charisma. And he's tough.

    Back in the day when someone was tackled to the ground the laws allowed the use of cleats to rake the ball back, there was no use of the hands to dig the ball out. This is why the game has completely changed from maul based rugby ,nobody wanted to hit the ground when boots was allowed to stomp the crap out of you, to ruck based rugby , where hands are used instead and feet are illegal. Downside, way more knockouts at the clean out at the ruck, all those shoulders to the head, upside no more cleat marks down your back and stitches in the head.

    Nowadays the haka formation is generally an arrow head formation. With the leader a couple of rows back

      Legend claims he seen how they did the haka, he wanted no part in it cuz the Haka is a war dance its gota be done with a certain intensity.. buck took them to a school where the haka was performed correctly and the team adopted it right away.. whenever i see vids of buck doing the haka i get super pumped feeling like a warrior lol buck was and is a walking legend much respect

    On another note, when Buck played rugby wasn’t professional sport at any level so these guys played for the love of the game and their country. Imagine guys like Lebron or Kyrie Irving doing that. We bred different down here, Americans are weak when it comes to passion and toughness, including American football
