X4 Foundations How to open lockboxes (different kinds)

Don't blow up the lockboxes! You'll lose the loot! There are different kinds of lockboxes floating around in X4 Foundations. You need to shoot the big red lock icons on them but some are more difficult than others to hit.
X4 Foundations is an awesome PC game for people who love sci-fi worlds and spaceflight simulators. This game has a terrible built-in tutorial and a steep learning curve, and I was totally confused when starting out. Now that I'm figuring out how to play, I'm making a series of videos to help you get into it, because it's really fantastic once you know how to play!

Be very careful when shooting at the lockboxes (especially with ship weapons) and save the game before trying to open the box. Some of them lockboxes are rigged with explosives and one misaimed shot will cause the explosion that will immediately cause the endgame animation as your ship gets destroyed in the explosion. I found it out myself several times. Painfully.

Just watched this video. Learned how to open up lock boxes. Second lockbox I saw did this and exploded on me. Went to the videos comments to see more information. Here you are sitting at the top.

Found a lockbox, didn't know how to open it. Found your video, now I know.
The only thing though is that I need a non-repair laser for my suit. Every time I try to open via shooting from spaceship the whole thing goes up.

after the new 4.0 update I can't use the weapons anymore. they avoid aiming at the box
I can only destroy it by gargeting its center but the weapons will avoid the locks at any cost. Tried mouse aiming or changing modes. no luck

that's nothing to do with 4.0 update, that's based on the distance and weapon configuration of your ship. The white dot is where it really aims.

@@texx8205 I'm saying the white dot decided to move when it was finally on a lock. yes it was the ship design making it difficult combined with bugs. I was using a nemesis if I recall. not the treasure hunter choice for a ship! im sure it's fixed now
