When you are testing 22lr. It’s best to fire a couple of fouling shots with the new Ammo before shooting for a group. If you noticed the better groups you shot had one or two at the most that hit a good bit from the actual group. Like the Mini Mag hollow points did.
An old shooter I knew called it seasoning the barrel! It does work.
Found this out for myself, you're right. I personally don't think a 100 yard test is worth much from a 22LR. Especially when you mix subsonic with high velocity. A strictly subsonic test would be good
American patriot that's what all the competition guys say you should shoot 4 0r 5 groups to decide say the lube is different between brands also and makes a difference
Who Tee, I've been watching you over the last few years (ever since I found your channel), and I must say that you have become one of my favorite gun channels! Love your content and your style of reporting.
Thanks for all you do for us!
🙏🙏🙏 appreciate you watching Robert
I have had a lot of fun doing similar tests then going back months later to see if it duplicates the same results. It never did. there is a lot of variation between lot numbers of ammo, or how its handled etc..... ALWAYS fun to do though. Thanks
I've only found 22 shot shells available, except way, way, way overpriced 22 bulk........ so here I am again enjoying watching you shoot. Thanks and Blessings Who-Tee!
Wow those CCi 36gr HP mini mag did really well and those Eley sub sonics HP. I'd definitely buy either one. Nice demo. Definitely want to get me one of them CZ457 rifles.
Very good video I just bought a CZ Varmint Precision Trainer will be picking the rifle and scope/mounts up next week this gives me some good basics on where to start as far as ammo choices! Great video!
Very good comparison video WTW! Thanks for sharing brother. Saying prayers for you now bro, hang in there. Tough times go away, but tough people don’t!🤘🏽🇺🇸👊🏽
Thank you Michael 🙏
Wow! My Marlin model 60 loves Eley subsonic, Eley high velocity hollow point, and CCI mini mag 36gr varmint.
It's nice to see a little 22lr test like this. But I've found that you have to select the ammo your gun likes and stick with it.
For example, in your test the CZ457 shot Norma 22-tac pretty well.... but my Marlin 60 shoots it mediocre.
When I'm shooting the 3 ammos above, I consistently get quarter sized groups at 100 yards.
Well done. Thanks for putting the time in for us. Keep up the good work.
One of the best .22 comparisons I've seen. You professionally qualified the weather conditions & THAT particular rifle. There are SO MANY PARAMETERS when comparing .22 ammo, as you always allude to. I have actually seen 2 new, identical rifles shoot completely different using the same ammo. It's all good, it's all fun, we all love it & that's what it's about! That WAS, "A really fun video!"👍
Amazing how different ammo shoots in a particular rifle. CZ is evidently tuned to subsonics. Will try something like your video with my W75. Well done, who tee!!!
Super impressed with ely and cci hollow points 3 or 4 in the same hole!!
They did good
@@paulking8055 - Definitely a UK lamping favourite :)
I do like these .22 rimfire shooting tests with a bunch of different ammunition.
Thanks for this A.
Thanks for watching Reg
thanks for doing this. I've always shot the CCI hollow points at target (50 Yards). I never considered even trying 100 yards only because of the caliber. I guess I'll give the 100 yard target a try. I'm also going to try the other manufacturers ammunition.
Who knew that manufacturers of the same thing could be so different.
The Eley was great but that group from the CCI mini-mag HP was fantastic......If you would have thrown that first one away to season the barrel then shot 5 rds it probably would have been the best group.......It's always fun to see what your rimfire guns chamber & barrel like best......Most people are surprised when they find out.
Yep, seasoning the barrel is critical, I always use Pappy's
@@furion.. …or Frank’s Red Hot, I put that sh*t on everything.
After shooting CCI Stinger and CCI mini mag 40gr which use the same lead and wax, I consider the barrel adequately fouled for the CCI 36gr shot just after those two.
fire a few shots of each load before shooting targets, this allows the old lubricant for the last bullet to be cleared from the barrel and not interfer with the new lubricant of the new bullet. i found between sk rifle match and elley, the lubricants were very reactive with each other.
@Mark Berenger open a box of SK Standard Plus, or Lapua. They are not wax coated, but coated with a rather heavy coating of oil. Several high end match grade ammos use oil instead of wax.
Camera placement on the paper plates was fantastic...... REALLY cool to be able to "see" the bullet hit the plate.
Great video
Thanks for watching Tracy!
Great video. My experience has been the same. Some loads of the cheap stuff create horrible groupings and then you get a few shots that are almost perfect, followed by a dud or two. You buy the cheap stuff to have fun plinking, but it ain't fun when you can't hit your targets. So I only buy the good stuff. (at least I did before Covid 19.)
Love the eley I shoot eley high velocity hollows for fall turkeys here in Colorado
Great video got to love the plinking guns
You answered my question on the right ammo to try. Definitely the Elly subsonic hollow point. Thanks a bunch. Now I just need to find the stuff.
Lovely rifle, beats those plastic ones you usually buy. I'm going with the Eleys for marksmanship, used to use these for small bore competition.
I’ve found it best when trying new 22 ammo to fire a few fouling shots first before going for a group. This is the barrel getting used to the bullet. You’ll see evidence of this as your first shot is usually away from the main group :-)
Great video man got to love those CZ rifles I like the one you did with the 762.39 also that was pretty accurate you doing great job appreciate your videos
Gotta love the czs
I dont own any 22lr yet just wmr but i know one thing for sure.....this is going to be a really fun video😊❤🇺🇸
Hey Sean!
I’m sure part of the issue with the supersonic rounds was that they slowed down to subsonic by the time they reached the target, and going through the sound barrier disrupts the bullet flight. Whereas, the subsonic loads stay subsonic the entire flight.
100% right JW Zelch
Great video. I do these same types of tests- not just for accuracy, but also to make sure I know which guns feed which ammo.
Smart idea drawing the dots at the bottom of the plates for the high velocity ammo! You really put a lot of thought into these videos.
I was at the range this weekend, and was sighting in a different scope on one of my rifles, couldn’t hold a zero. It was a scope I’ve had for years, and lately it’s been sitting in a drawer- I think it got banged up cause it kept shifting point of impact. Oh well, off to buy a new Simmons Pro Target!
👍👍💥💥💥
Oh, and awesome video. I like the new song too, though the old one speaks to the metal lover in me.
Nice shooting and great video! I have to try this with my Browning A bolt!
Those subsonic loads were impressive!
Very useful video. I got the same rifle and I got exactly the same results. Eley subsonic are best at a 100 yards however at 50 yards the supersonics are closing the gap.
Gday Adam
My CZ 455 .22 will only shoot minimag hollow point 36 grain 1260 FPS ammo I tried everything else that I could find and have settled on mini mags for the best all round consistency , thank you for your time and knowledge Mate putting this great video together . Steve from Australia
Don't know how I missed this video anyway great job I love some 22 lr most underated round out there
I really do enjoy your content.
This is a great test man!
Heyo. Subscribed to your channel a few weeks ago
I haven't had a .22 for many years. This video makes me want to go buy another one now. Great video brother.
You should!
I’d love to see you do some rim thickness sorted average ammo. I’ve been doing it with Aguila and finding it makes a big difference.
That was a .22 buffet!🍕🍟🍔🌭🍿 Good stuff brother!😎
A yummy one!
Awesome video WTW, thanks for posting.
Thanks for watching Larry
Love how he's trying them at a longer distance
Thanks for watching Michael
Thought CCIs were the gold std for subsonic 22lr, Normas rocked that boat here. Hollow-points are awesome. Now waiting for a similar 22wmr shootout & the 327 Fed Mag (revolver & rifle).
God bless WTW 🤘🏼~ love from 🇮🇳
Great video. Glad you enjoy it so much !!
My 10-22 loves the ELEY. I need to try them in my CZ. They are just the best for consistency and are 1050 FPS so not slow. Great for squirrels with my 1022 suppressed. I knew they would win before you started. I’m hunting for more of the ELEYs as they are hands down the best. Used to be $8 a box, not sure what they’ll be these days.
When testing different brands or types of ammo, always fire one or two foulers before the main group. It will make a difference. This vid makes me want to scope up my own brand new 457, tho.
Very informative video, bravo! I have a Brno Mod 2 (CZ Mod 452), it has always preferred the Eley .22LR hollow point. The rifle and ammo will undoubtedly outshoot me on any given day. That said, I've taken hundreds of vermin with this tool. Very good quality and not overly pricey!
Thanks for watching Ray
Evening Who Tee Who..missed video👍👍 it was my parents 40th wedding anniversary hanging out with them tonight good shooting God bless and keep on going with the videos
Hey Jeffrey! Appreciate you watching
This is much better than your version with the Ruger 10/22 - well done. It was interesting to see that that the Ruger could cycle just about any ammo, so that video had some merit too. Thanks.
Them Norma's and eley shot good. Great vid. I like a nice 22👍
Thanks for watching Steve
Awesome video as usual love the ending
🙏🙏🙏
That 457 certainly doesn't disappoint!
Good vid bud! Just got mine! Synthetic stock getting it ready to go now.
Huge appreciation Wtw. Such a good reference to come back to. 👍👍👍👍👍👍what a awesome little rifle. Totally
Thanks for watching David
Better scope and less wind and that Eley would have tightened up a lot more. Both of my 10/22 target rifles prefer the CCI standard target ammo over the expensive ammo, don't know why. One of them actually shoots great with that cheap Winchester red box ammo, but it will not feed reliably. That's what makes the .22 so much fun, cause they are so unpredictable with what they like! Really enjoyed the video, keep up the good work.
goes to show that every rifle is different. i get what you got a 100 yards with CCI standard and a little looser groups with mini mags. im using a marlin 795 in a tactical chassis with a 2.7 pound trigger with a heavy barrel. great vid brother, thx! ps: gotta try some of the Eley! expensive as hell here though...
I'm actually a big fan of 22lr. Fantastic round for snakes, possums and raccoons around the farm.🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸.
Learned a lot about 22lr from this thank you WTW!
Thanks for watching Bill
Enjoy your videos, appeared like you were rushing and good shooting form was overlooked for speed.
Makes me real itchy to fling some 22s n see what my old Remington semi likes
i cant believe i didnt see this one great video love 22 up here in canada best survival rifle
I am really looking forward to this video.
Me too! Always appreciate you watching Randal
Lot’s of back seat drivers I enjoy your vids you shoot how I would shoot just better 👍🔥🦅
Good video.
The gun likes what it likes. I have bought firearms from people who swore by a particular round and when I started shooting it, I couldn't get a good group. I switched ammo and it shot like a champ. Maybe our standards were just different. I've heard people say "on the paper" is good. I strive for a higher standard, consistently.
Thanks for sharing this video with us!
Thanks for watching Scott!
nice video. very nice. it seemed to me that with 10 rds each most of them could be zeroed in via the scope. at 100 yards a 22lr can drift. two months ago I tried sighting in my 22 at 50 yards. the problem was that the gusts of wind carried the rounds to the right.
great video.
A lot of pew power to choose from, be a good one to see. Gods speed to ya Who and family. 👍🇺🇸
Hey joy how u feeling
Lotsa pew pew!
@@keiththompson5588 not myself yet bud. Have a good week at work bra
The supersonic bullets are slowing down and passing back through the sound barrier, even the Stingers. They’ll go through some turbulence and the relatively light 22LR projectiles get pushed around by it a bit more than center fire rounds. If you were to try this at 50 yards I think the SuperSonics would be closer if not indistinguishable from the others. Also try to find some Interceptor from Aguila. They are a full 40 grain bullet but they are going almost as fast as the Stingers. They might hold their velocity above 1,200 feet per second out to 100 yards. CCI Velocitor is similar but just a bit slower. I want to try some in my Henry lever action. However they are too hot for my Marlin 60s. They grouped well but the manual said to avoid such loads. A bolt, lever action, or single shot will handle them no problem usually.
I have the same rifle with the synthetic stock. My rifle loves the fast boolets.
1)CCI Kwik Shok, now called Segmented Hollow Point. 5 shots make a clover at 100yd.
2) CCI Stinger
3) Remington Yellow Jackets
Those are the only rounds I run thru mine. 2 and 3 aren't as accurate as #1 but they will do.
I never had a problem with CCI Stinger ammo, in the several .22 rifles I had, bolt action and semi automatic, I never got a group as large as you got with the Stinger ammo, great for woodchucks and even a coyote as well. I always swore by the CCI Stinger ammo, still do.
This rifle has a tight match chamber that isn’t meant to chamber stingers or any other 22 with extra long cases. It is not the fault of the ammo, Stingers are great hunting rounds, just not meant for match rifles.
I have several CZ 455s, 2x trainer, 1x scout (16.5 bbl) 1x ultra lux (29 in bbl) After much testing, the all agree with Aguila 40gr Copper plated supersonic.. all hated stinger (CZ website said the rifles are not designed to use extended brass ammo like Stingers). All like a few rounds to 'season' the bbl after a good cleaning. With the agulia ammo, and a bbl with a few warm up rounds.. these things will become tack drivers.. at least mine do. Thanks for the vid!
Thanks for watching Stephen!
Another good video. Rock on tell Paul hey
Will do
I tried different brands of ammo in my 22 LR. CCI Segmented preformed the worst followed by much to my surprise Eley Subsonic. Sellier And Bellot did not perform well but S&B Match did quite well. Elley High Velocity HP, SK Pistol Match, Blazer RWS BBM and RWS Target Rifle did very well in my rifle.
Wow might have to be on the look out for some of those NormaUSA
Thanks for another great video and 22 info.
Thank you for watching Buddy
Good looking CZ. Another fun video!
Thanks for watching Anthony!
Great review and excellent test conditions. Really appreciate your opinions here. Seeking a small game hunting rifle and think the CZ may be the ticket.
Follow-up: bought a CZ 457 Varmint with 20” barrel and haven’t had a chance to hit the range yet. Great quality build!
-also, I think the supersonic 22LR ammo will always be a problem after 50 yards. My understanding is sometime between 50 and 100 yards, the bullet slows down enough to cross back under the sound barrier and it causes some sort of flight stability change.
Gotta put in mind how your barrel resonates to a certain load. And how the boo light likes to fly out of that bing bang. At this caliber CZ steel likes to ring from past experiences so yeah it is picky with the ammo. The stingers are pretty good once it warms up and flings them around cold. Your barrel tends to shake sideways on a hot load the Axis is tilted up to the right a few degrees. But all in all good gun
Fun video as always WTW. My old BRNO MODEL 2 loves the CCI standards and stingers (stingers get 1/2 inch 5 shot groups at 50m) Cheers
1/4 inch sorry not 1/2 inch.👍
WTW !!! Evening Brother, Evening WTW fans ! Hope y’all had a great weekend ? Hope everybody was able to fling some bullets downrange ? Y’all have a blessed weekend I pray
Evening mickey!

Nice informative video love 22 lrs
Thanks for the video!👍
My wife uses a CZ 457 with the "At-One" stock, 24" heavy barrel and an old Weaver 3-9x40 scope. She gets her best groups (so far) at 100 yards with Wolf Match Target ammo. I think we need to try some of those Eley Subsonic Hollow Points. She gets similar results with the Wolf Match Target. Most 100 yard groups can be covered with a dime. But, who knows? Maybe it will do even better.
CZ makes some great rifles.
I love the 457
@@WHOTEEWHO I was a little skeptical at first. I did not like that they had changed the barrel attachment system from the 452 and 455 series. I was OK with the other changes. But I was watching a lot of reviews and was impressed with the results, so Santa left one under the tree for my wife, who is an avid .22 shooter. She loves it, and it is extremely accurate...with the ammunition it likes. Similar to the one you tested.
They are great rifles and less costly than the 452/455. The really good news is that the version you are using is about $250 less expensive than the "At One" model, and just as accurate! Good news for hunters and plinkers that don't want to lug around a heavy barrel and adjustable stock.
"Buffalo Outdoors" channel did an extensive ammo accuracy test series with a 457 MTR. You may be interested in that also.
Hey that's cool. I just bought a bunch of 22's today. Cci standard velocity and some cb shorts for the revolver. Got a whole bunch of 308 and 38spl ammo friday 👍
Awesome
Thanks for another great video. I know it was time consuming on you but wanted to request the same test at 50 yrds. I was also wondering if you had the opportunity to test the Tikka T1x and if so how would you compare it to the CZ457. I am definitely buying one or the other when either becomes available and would really like your input. Thanks again for your video of the ammo comparison test.
In my country almost everyone uses Eley Match with those CZ 452 / 455 / 457 rifles.. they are really good for target shooting, especially the 452
Nice video!! Always look forward to your video’s. I just pick up a savage 17 HMR 93 tee-sr took it out this weekend shoots really nice! Driving tacks at a 100 yards. Hope things are better for you!! Have a great day!!
Tee-sr
Don’t know why it keeps changing when I hit send TRR-SR
Great video!
Great video!! I had given up on my savage b22 sf at 100 yards but maybe I just need the right ammo.
That's incredible. If you can find some RWS or Lapua match stuff, those would be interesting to review.
Now that was a great video. That 22 would make a great Squirrel 🐿 Sniping Rifle. Now that would be an awesome video.
I like to shoot bulk ammo for cleaning up gophers. Good Vid cousin!🇨🇦🤠
Best accuracy I've gotten from bulk 22 ammo is the federal champion 525 round packs. Used to be a blue box, not sure if it's changed. They're a 36gr copper wash hollow point. Used to buy a brick for 20 bucks canadian. I miss those days
Yeah, I too have found that Federal ammo shoot with the best in all calibers. Was a little disappointed they were not tested. Great test and are going to try the Elas and have some CCI hollow points on hand.
My CZ457 Varmint likes federal bulk match target for goofin off and Wolf Match Extra gettin serious. Similar results as you got. Lots of fun!
That is one mighty fine looking rifle !! That is one of my bucket list guns I’m anxious to see it shoot . Pull the trigger!!!
It is a good one
BTW, You should always fire 2-3 rounds off-target each time you switch ammo to season the barrel for each round's lubricant and to clear the barrel of any slag left by the last ammo.
Good info. 🙏🙏💪 will do all my groups the right way
If ammo leaves “slag” then doesn’t each shot leave this mysterious “slag”? So how can you ever avoid it? The “clearing” shots will leave their own harmful “slag” supposedly
I've loved that CZ from the first upload🤩
Me too!
Eley are your squirrel busters!! Great comparo test. Let your boys plink some steel with those Thunderbolts!!!!! Nice vid again. Hopefully catch you on the live tomorrow!!!!
Always appreciate you watching K Parker
Very interesting results WTW, gotta retry the cci hollow points in my cz, also retry some subsonics
Thanks for watching Robert
Great video! I would suggest trying some lapua ammo as well.
Nice plinker buddy, luuuvit! Norma's are pretty good.
Well now that was an interesting video and a interesting layout of the different types of 22LR and results. Around here 22LR is pretty scarce you really don't have much of a choice if you find some and you need it doesn't matter what brand it is that's what you got.
Thanks for watching David
I'll add it was windy. And the Remingtons did surprisingly well for cheap ammo. The Elys where great but expensive. Let's be honest its fun to lob a .22LR out to a 100 yards +. But hunting my max distance is 50-75 yards max. Most subsonic ammo is good at that distance. I'll try Norma when/if its available. For my long distance stuff I weigh each 22 and all the ones close in weight I mark match.
I will start off with I really enjoy your videos. Thanks for the great entertainment. I haven't shot firearms in 30 plus years. I have been living in California for a very long time now. I don't like going to gun ranges. I still have firearms. I even have the same rifle you are using in this video. I still love to shoot, so I have taken up air rifles. PCP's, spring/gas pistons. I can shoot in my back yard. Don't have to go anywhere. I have air rifles that can put pellet on pellet at 60 yards with not much effort. At 100 yards, easily one inch or less. Like the group where you put three in the same hole. Even though I enjoy shooting air rifles, it's just not the same. It's sad, I can't even remember the last time I shot my CZ 457. It was nice to at least see yours in action. Now I know witch ammo to look for for it...
Great Video, thanks for sharing. 👍
Thanks for watching Daniel!
Great video... no BS. Thank you so much.
