This was one the 1st thing I noticed as a child watching this that I hated. They always would make girls get a makeover only to talk trash about their hair style as if they style own hair.

@@inste10300 I think people don’t hold as much animosity for Tyra because she’s not in the public eye like Ellen is, with her show and stand-up and all that. People seem to have kind of forgotten about her, and when she does resurface, roll their eyes and move on. But yeah, it’s wild how much she and the show got away with, with little to no backlash apart from the recent reexamination of ANTM

It always made me mad when they would tell the more reserved girls "you have no personality", as if being loud and outgoing is the only acceptable personality to have.
I’ll be real every time they say “you have no personality” all I hear is “you don’t act like Tyra.”
Yeah I totally agree, I also felt like they were too hard on the ANTM cycle 13 winner Nicole because of her shy personality. Every season, they always pick on the most reserved girls to say, “you’re flat, you have no personality, etc” Literally they act like being outgoing is only appropriate way to act.
That's genuinely what some people think, and it sucks. Or they act like being quiet is a personality flaw that needs to be corrected. I'm sick of people acting like introversion isn't an acceptable way to exist.

As a graphic designer, this looks like a kids project... I get the times have changed but my god.
I don't think the time has anything to do with the fact that majority of these shoots are so half assed. 🤮 Like poor photo quality, makes sense. Poor design quality, not so much.

@@milk5722 Haha but anyone with graphic design training would NOT make something like that in a pinch. Unless they didn't want to pay for a graphic designer and asked the photographer to do it. I've seen that before. Someone can take beautiful photos or do beautiful illustrations but is not great at design.
The one Jay made fun of for "posing," Sarah, is actually a photographer, so they always tried to bust her down like she didn't know anything

Because if they put them together the same way, the models might have made a presentation that was better than tyras, it's a direct comparison she had to avoid.

They sabotaged Brittney. In fact this season I think they hated all the girls and yet had some of the most unique and personable to work with. And by hate, I mean jealous and tearing down their strengths and beating their weaknesses.
These girls also seemed most peaceful and supportive of each other and thus probably "boring".
@@SabrinaRina In her Oliver Twixt interview, Brittney said that they started staging fake fights with each other to give the producers what they asked for.
The weave they gave her was terrible.

Thank you so much. Ive been through a lot with my hair haha It started to fall out in 2020 and I lost about 50% of it. I had to go to a dermatologist who told me there was nothing I could do to fix it and had to wait til it completely fall out for it to start growing again. On top of that I started developing cystic acne which only got worse. My hair has since stopped falling out and began the regrowth process, and I’ve been on accutane for 6 months so it’s helped my skin a lot. Appreciate it! 🥰

This show was so problematic!! It was not rooted in actually finding models & giving them a chance - but instead was all about torturing them for “entertainment”
They might have actually had an opportunity to be a model if they just went to model castings instead of “making it” on this show. I would be so discouraged if I was them, poor girls.
That was the purpose of most reality shows. Create drama, fights, put people in high stress situations that intentionally plays with their physiological wellbeing and film it all.
Then dump them and let them find a way to heal on their own. There are high statistics that show serious mental health issues and suicide in people who have been in ‘reality’ tv.
I watched all these shows and was oblivious to any of this at the time. Now I’m woke!
Yes! Except the legit acted as if they were trying to help these girls, although I think it was like that with most competition shows

I would say it was the SAFEST photoshoot they ever done. They weren't dangling over giant holes, posing at garbage waste sites, or handling any potentially dangerous animals.

If you want to see a really pretty photoshoot, there's one where they dress the girls as certain plants in Cycle 9, and the photos are truly stunning. There's also some drama during panel, of course.

What gets me the most about antm is that the models can't even use their portfolio from the show to go to castings. Imagine showing up with that kind of kid's project collage , the weird food shoots and what ever else ridiculous bs they come up with.
any of them who have tried to actually have careers after this have been pretty much laughed at. theres even a season where they work with real models and you can tell these girls are being set up to fail

You're completely right about the photographer's energy impacting the shoot bc when I was getting my photography degree I always made sure to hype my models up and give them feedback to make them confident in themselves and even the shyest ones would show a significant difference.
I always wonder how much these photographers wanted to tell Jay to cram it. Can you imagine you're getting good shots and the energy is going well and then this clown yells at her that she looks like she's smelling poo and all the vibes go out the window and making the photos bad. It would be so frustrating if you were a photographer that actually just wanted to make good photos.

As a designer and creative director I've had dozens of interns work for me, the worst of whom could've easily lapped the execution of these collages in their sleep. But that's ANTM - dirt cheap production values and the most obvious product placement ever. Tyra was like, give me ALL the money this show makes.

The girls did totally fine, the editor is worst in history though and that's on ANTM.
Mr. Jay made these videos “exposing” Tyra and the show last year and didn’t take any accountability for his snarky and condescending attitude. Like, come on!!!!
I thought his behavior was generally worse than hers, though she probably made some of the more questionable decisions for the show.

ANTM were pioneers of bringing people on tv who they know will trust them only to destroy their confidence and light in the very industry they are competing for🙄

Do you know how frustrating it was watching this show every week, I think I learned eye rolling from ANTM.
What they did to Brittany with her hair was criminal!! I felt so bad for her!
So I think the goal of this photoshoot was to simulate a comp card with a creative twist, but it was (clearly) executed poorly. In cycle 6, they had the girls do a similar photoshoot during semi-finals, and it was done much better and more similar to real comp cards.
The photos weren’t bad but the layout looked like a self made high school photo collage that you put in a cute Y2K photo frame.
You didn’t pick hungry for yours? It would be a photo of you over at craft services, eating a sandwich.
That part i could only think: so, Jessica is going for tired and hungry... and then she didn't, the audacity

I feel like this shoot had potential if they ended up cropping the images and collaging them together like the example from Tyra's shoot. That one was at least clean with a focus on the model and her emotions. But the way the final images turned out with all the text and the disjointed boarders looks like my graphic art assignments from elementary school...

When someone calls a model cocky on this show, it’s so confusing. When they have no confidence Jay and the judges are like “Where’s your confidence??? You’re so timid!!! Own it!!” And when they are confident and feel sure of themselves, it’s “ugh she is so cocky. She’s good but not that good.” LIKE WHAT DO YOU WANT 😭

They'll complain if you're a little unsure during the photoshoot or something(say someone is trying to focus on not falling and breaking their ankle while walking on some moving platform with really high heels) and they'll complain if you have confidence in yourself. You can really do nothing right.
Did the models do the photo layouts? They look like something someone would make if they had zero design experience, were give free software and told, “go nuts!”

You hear this critique a lot in ANTM, but they never elaborate on what that *means* exactly. Like, they can't say what exactly the model needs to be doing more of, just that they're not doing enough of it.
I'm basically watching your reaction vids to learn about positivity reinforcement in communication and constructive criticism. Jessica is so optimistic in her feedback even when she's criticising someone she points out what exactly was the weak moment and gives advice how to get better. She always only roasts people who are unfair and condescending hehe

Brittany ROCKED. She was one of the best models that had been on the show up to that point. Top 5 portfolios of all time and an absolute bs elimination. Should have won the whole thing. Truly incredible

I’m not sure if you follow Oliver Twixt’s interviews, but a *lot* of the girls have said that Mr. Jay was awful and condescending. The only judges who seemed to get on with the girls were Miss Jay and the various supermodel judges (Janice, Paulina, etc)

As a graphic designer myself, the typography of these photos hurt my eyes lol.
It's weird how some of the pictures went into the frames while others were cropped a ways off from the frame cutting away body parts... within the same collages.
The presentation looks like something I might have made in the 7th grade. Although I feel like I payed more attention to detail even then.
This photoshoot was so DIY. Im surprised the models werent told to take the pics themselves.

Sarah/Moe did a great job! They reminded me of the photos that were shown of Tyra and the judges are still telling her that "It doesn't look natural". Ok? So they mean Tyra's photos doesn't look natural either? What do they mean!? Seriously! Sarah did a great job! Her facial expressions are all versatile and bring out the emotion they were supposed to show! (I did acting for a long time.) I can agree that some of her body poses looked a bit odd but there is not much you can do when you are just standing face forward in front of a camera without any props/special costumes/clothing pieces or backdrops to work with.

As a graphic designer it looks like a first grade intern did that using a phone app that got a 2.5 rate and 7 reviews on the Play Store. One of the review says : "Good app but I had to watch 3 ads to unlock the green and yellow border."

The worst photoshoot ever was when they had the girls pose on a race track with a horse and jockey, but all they had on were heels and lingerie panties. I think it was like the 2nd or 3rd episode of the petite season. The concept literally made no sense.
