omg right??? like they specifically put a bigger girl in a shiny satin sheath dress and pointed a fan at her, and then criticized her for wearing something that isn’t flattering when it clings??? every other girl got these high slit full skirts that can float around
@@deniseeliza1 yeah, that dress didn't even fit at all with that whole shoot. they put other girls in big flowy chiffon dresses and her in shiny satin straight dress. the cut of it literally prohibited her from doing any interesting poses, but she tried despite that. it was literally the stylist fault for putting her in that dress, and whoever was responsible for fan did her (and others) dirty. and even after that retoucher literally could've fixed all the weird wrinkles but chose not to and they just all blamed her for everything that was going on.
Whenever they say that I think "oh you just admitted you have bad taste...thanks"

Yeah that’s exactly what I was thinking...like what kind of critique is that? She didn’t have a say in what she wore lol and furthermore, if she did happen to tell wardrobe “shiny fabric doesn’t work with me”, the judges would’ve had a field day with that 😒
The judges act like they’re competing for the “who can be the the biggest, most invasive and rude douchebag” award.
Especially after they fired Janice, so she wasn’t there to win by default.
The way Tyra will hike up a models skirt and expose a models stomach because they aren’t “dressed like a model”, but then turn around and tell another model to “cover up”. She’s so inconsistent with her abuse.
Absolute control be like that.
Imagine you tell someone to clean up a kitchen, top to bottom, so that it's completely spotless. Then after hours of work, you tell them to take a full trash can and dump it out all over the kitchen.
Someone with free will, a sense of identity, self-worth, etc. is going to ask questions to know why or just straight up refuse. Someone who had submitted to the control of another person would just do it.
Inconsistency can be a tool of control.
When she's says, "take your hair DOWN!" Then the next girl she tells "slick your hair BACK into a PONY!!!"

Ok, I know this is random as heck but I am dying, DYING, to find that mini megaphone. I can't seem to find a tiny one like that anywhere... they have these cheap little voice changers but they're not the same. Does anyone know what the brand of this mini megaphone is or where I can buy one just like it?

According to her LinkedIn, she got her Masters of Public Health in Epidemiology from NY Medical College and is a Research Project Manager at Sloan Kettering! Really proud for her. She's probably busy AF with pandemic stuff, doing way more for the world than Tyra ever did.

This is one of the later seasaons. If this photoshoot has been a part of the first few seasons they would have just let the girls fall
I wonder if they planned to use the crane from the start. But said they'll use baloon for the drama and to scare them. As it was a hazard from the start and they had crane immediately avaible.
That just goes to show how unsafe it was. They could not control the balloon. I wonder if the balloon operator said absolutely not. Amtm usually said just do it anyway.
I feel like Tyra used this show to project her own insecurities on those young girls. After being bullied for years for her own appearance she wanted to be the bully.
I'm learning that as well while rewatching this series. It seems she got drunk off power for finally feeling "in power".
I feel like it’s a yes and no. She’s involved in so many different shows now and the rumor is no one wants to work with her because she’s a nightmare. So it could be that she’s just a crap person as well. 🤷🏻♀️

YES! I used to watch this show in the early years, and ALL the final photos were overly Photoshopped. They were so bad and so cheesy. It was like what was the point of the photoshoot? They're just going edit everything into oblivion anyways. At that point, save time and money, and just do a photo collage.
Tyra in other seasons: “take your hair out of your ponytail. Look like a model”
Tyra this time: “put your hair up! You look hoochie!”

I remember they called that girl that in almost every episode she was in, what ever she did.
Looks like that balloon wasn't the only thing full of hot air. Those judges need a lesson in communication.
Since it's been a few years I really hope they have worked on it, for their own and other's sake.

I remember “professionals” in reality shows always talking like that… super vague. I think they did this to give an air of exclusiveness to their expertise.. as if we’re all too dumb to automatically understand what their flaky statements mean.
I’m so glad the newer generations coming up are all about having/sharing random knowledge about things that interest them. So glad elitism is out of style lol
The way Tyra even talked about how she shot with the one photographer, she was like oh my mind goes somewhere else. Lies! Just say you have a director and the photographer that actually directs you, and tells you to hold your pose!
I'm so obsessed with these series because there are a lot of things we as viewers thought were the models' fault and listening Jessica as a photographer explain how much at fault people like Jay and the photographer are make so much more sense!
The eight men holding the balloon down are usually there to keep Tyra's ego in check.

I always felt angry when they shamed models for wanting a career other than modelling. Like, how can you say that education is bad? Models "retire" pretty young. They need to have something after their model career ends. Besides, not every model becomes supermodel. What if model career doesn’t work for someone? What will this person do without education?
And then in later seasons they had college edition. Suddenly education is important to them. And, later on, Tyra herself bragged about her degree. How she is now educated businesswoman. Infuriating.
I was about to say I knew a girl who modeled to get through college. I doesn’t mean you aren’t dedicated to modeling, it just means your aware you will have to do something else eventually!
Not to mention that they literally asked that one cycle what each girl wanted to do after modeling and turned it into a photo shoot. I thought it was cool. It was whatever cycle Jade Cole was on. Anyway, mix signals much?

Really? This one is a safety thing, which I'm kinda surprised they care about in the first place, but a freaking cemetery after a death? Was it a real cemetery? I hope not but I have a feeling it might have been... I feel like doing a shoot in a cemetery is uber disrespectful anyways, but after a death is just... Do they have any humanity?!
@@alternativeprincess4783 It was. They posed in caskets in a literal 6ft grave. Jessica has done a video on that episode as well. It just seems like, if the weather changed spontaneously enough that they decided to photoshop a hot air balloon in that they probably did have to rent in advance... They probably could have changed the location when they knew this lady just had a death in the family. They acted surprised, but like they have cameras in these models' faces 24/7 they had to know.
In fairness, the graveyard was scheduled. You cant just stop a scheduled activity
@@Jackben1mble You are right about that, but even without the recent death, I don't think it was an appropriate location. It's disrespectful to the dead and their families in my opinion. They could have gone anywhere and made it look like a cemetery, they didn't need to go to a real one. They couldn't predict or change someone dying around the time of that photoshoot, but they could have done something different, I don't think the cemetery would mind if they cancelled and spontaneously changing the plan would have been a good challenge for the girls because that can happen at any time in the modeling world. They had to have had a backup plan in case it rained, because being down in a hole like that wouldn't be safe in that kind of weather.
@@alternativeprincess4783 i worked in events for 6 years, what you are saying is a logistic and financial nightmare for all the people involved. the photographer, the venue, the stylists, and all like caterers, the set designers, the electricians, all of the people involved have their own schedules. These were all paid to do theit job specically for this schedule. It will take months to bring them together again. She should have left if she had issues.

@@JonathanAkosah Hi Eric. I was just reading up upon your comment and I happen to be a dancer as well, so I hope you dont mind that I share some insight :)
I think, when it comes to dance shot which means it is taken as an action shot, it will be very helpful if the photographer and dancer communicate regarding the goals that they want to achieve together from certain pose. For example, the dancer want to do “Firebird” jumps, then you guys can shall communicate at what moment that particular movement should be captured.
In this case, Firebird photos should not be taken when the dancer do plie/bend their knees to jumps or mid air.
Firebird shots considered as a success when the dancers stretch and straightened the lower leg and the upper leg is kind of folded (we call that fold as “en attitude”) and dancers arch their back in max cappacity, and all that done while the dancers jump real high.
Second is to have the same way of counting between the time when dancer’s prepare to the do the movement and the actual time when the movement is achieved will also helps tremendously. However when it comes to your job as photographer, this kind of timing/counting thing will get better in time and as you practice, you can feel that it become instinctive rather than exact, rigid process :)

Ouch! The girl who they insulted her outfit was homeless before. They found her on the homeless shoot from a few episodes before. They knew that and still made comments about her look . 😟

She was one of the models who played being homeless, she wasn't actually homeless. I think she's pretty successful as a model now.
@@ciellan6615 No, she was actually homeless when she did that photoshoot. The “homeless shoot” on ANTM literally featured real homeless people as the background models, one of whom was Isis. Isis was eventually cast on another season of the show, after being one of the homeless women who posed in that photoshoot. She’s talked about this in many interviews.
@@justanotheranonymousaccoun6365 I understood it wrong then in the show. I always thought the models they had in the background were you know... Models. Yikes, that makes that particular photoshoot even worse and tone deaf.
@@ciellan6615 if I remember correctly, the concept of that shoot was that the actual homeless people in the background would be dressed glamorous and the top model contestants were dressed "homeless". They even collaborated with a charity organisation for homless youth and said it was to "bring awareness" but that seems like a poorly masked excuse to me

If the models have a little weight on them, they tell them to cut down, if a model is too thin they tell them to bulk up.... you can’t win with these people
I've noticed they pick on black girls the most, which is SO weird to me considering Tyra is a POC herself.
@@StarsTonite451 , I could see it being one of two things.
1) Tyra sees them as competition.
When she was coming up in the industry, there may have been runway walks or photo shoots where they wanted one Black model for diversity. If every Black model in town shows up for one casting call, you have to be better than them and/or bring them down so that you stand out.
Even if Tyra was at a place in her career where she didn't need to do that anymore, because she had her own brand, it could still have been a subconscious reaction.
2. Tyra knows that the industry is harder for Black models and is trying to toughen the girls up to prepare them.
This explanation seems less likely to me given what I've seen from Tyra, but it's still a possibility.

I really don't get their comments. Nobody is ever good enough for them. It's either you have too many clothes or too little, wear a ponytail or don't etc.
Today we do things that in a decade will be outrageous. Back in those days, those things were not that problematic. I'm 100% sure you say things today that could be ripped apart in a couple of years. Just don't video tape them or judgment will live forever.

As someone who looks similar to her and unable to gain weight easily due to high metabolism, I've spent majority of my life receiving comments like that. It's rude and annoying af. Usually it's from strangers too. I couldn't imagine how hard it is for people who actually have eating disorders.
@@CupcakeBrianna I agree. Some people are naturally quite thin and strangers shouldn't be saying things like that. Friends or family who know a person and can actually be supportive and help can have some place though in expressing concern when they have some sort of evidence of there being something wrong. For people who actually have eating disorders they often need people to step in because nobody can really handle something like that on their own and it is hard to recognize when one needs help. I don't know, there is some middle ground between being all up in other people's business and ignoring problems and that balance is tricky.
There are many great photos, but the first one that comes to mind is Yoanna's helmet shot from Season 2. Her face is literally perfection

Watching your videos really shows me how much that modeling isn't necessarily all about the model, it's like... You have to have a really good TEAM of people. It's like having a really good doctor. It's not just your doctor doing a fantastic job, it's their support staff as well.

As if they were that concerned abt her weight... they knew what she looked like when they cast her, they knew what she looked like during last panel (which was what, three days prior?). They could've privately asked her about her eating at any other point other than the panel that they were going to cut her from the show.

Ok the too thin comments really sent me. I am someone who is naturally super skinny, about as skinny as that girl. But that is not due to anything I am purposely doing. I have a super hard metabolism to where it is actually super difficult for me to gain weight, and I have always been super self conscious about it.
There are somethings that a girl can’t control.

And I could down large slabs of steak, potatoes, fries, and still have room for dessert (it's one of the reasons my boyfriend-now-husband fell in love with me). I LOVED food, and had a metabolism at the time that allowed me to get away with it.
But I did get lots of comments and concerns about my weight. Everyone under 20 was jealous, everyone over 20 thought I was grossly underweight and was probably not eating enough 🙄 (my eating habits were on par typical teenage habits. Close friends and family can confirm) I got really self conscious about it as a result.
@@KallieExperiments same! I did cross country and track on top of my fast metabolism. People would always think I wasn’t eating enough when in reality I could probably do well in one of those eating competitions lol But seriously, I was so offended for that girl. I know how it feels.

I feel you! I'm naturally very thin and if I had a dollar for everytime someone made a rude comment about my appearance and accused me of having an ED or on drugs, I would be rich.....SMH.

I think it’s interesting how the models are doing a good job at varying their poses in this episode, I think it’s because the theme of the the hot air balloon creates space for much more creativity than some of the other photo shoot themes in ANTM

In behind the scenes interviews with some models they said they would work really long days filming. Like waking up at 7 am and going home at 3 am. So they probably didn't care about waiting to get any different props or changing the shoots I'm assuming? 🤷🏼♀️

Paulina recently stated in an interview that she is fed up with how harshly her appearance is judged now that she is older. I find that quite ironic considering the “feedback” she would give the models on this show
There have been some tea that her and Tyra didn't get along that well on and off camera.

I’m so glad you do these videos! I was so young when I used to watch it too and just as I grew up, I saw how sick and toxic it was.
It’s interesting to see how dramatically different the points of view are on the same scenario when speaking to either party involved. On Americas Next Top, they continue to hammer the models for not doing things that would usually not be their responsibility on an actual professional set. On the other hand, I’ve watched many RUclips photographers state that it’s the photographers responsibility to shoot, light, edit, pose, pick out wardrobe and help with make up. I disagree with this sentiment also. The reality is that everyone on set has a specific task when working on a project and it should be a collective effort.
I loved Annaleigh she was one of my faves. She has gone on to become an actress and is a pretty good one.
If you are concerned about someone's weight or shape, you should ask them personally. Not in front of the television
agreed, she did seem very unnaturally skinny but it could be an eating disorder or health issues, and i actually do think it's okay to intervene cause it can save someone's life. But not so bluntly and in front of 20 people (also a whole national audience). Take her to the side and ask privately (if they actually CARE). I remember a couple girls on the show having eating disorders and they never treated them right...so i doubt they really cared sadly. They just wanted shock value.

Honestly I definitely feel like Laura Bree had the best photo this week and it was one of the best photos in the show period. I personally love her arm and pretty much everything about the shot but we all have our personal opinions

I used to love this show when I was little, but now seeing small clips from episodes showing how the girls were treated literally sends me. I cannot rewatch this show I know it’ll just upset me.

I think those judges need to remember they are dealing with unconfident, inexperienced and impressionable young women. I thought they all did amazingly well. Like the tiny megaphone too ☺️
