Just finished using this to replace my wife's shattered screen after she dropped her phone - was wonderful and very helpful step by step. Worked perfectly! Hopefully the new screen lasts longer (also see the accompanying video on breaking down the entire phone to get at the front screen).
This went pretty well for me. My screen was very cracked and I had to take it off in pieces. This lead me to over use the heatgun which warped the frame. Fortunately when the replacement screen was installed it straightened everything out. Excellent video.
Thank you sir! I just finished replacing my display.Oh god it was stressful, but if you have the nerve, it is relatively straight forward. Here in the states, we can't get the glue you used, so I ended up using contact cement from a glass jar. It worked great, just follow the instructions on the bottle and apply with a toothpick. I had some trouble getting the old display to pop off (I was afraid to heat up the phone too much), but once I did, it popped right off!
Thank you, thank you , thank you! I watched this video like 10 times and yesterday finally went through with it and manage to repair my sister's broken N5. Remove the old shattered part was hard, but after a lot of trying and heating up it worked. Thank you so much, fantastic videos ;)
My replacement screen was bleeding light on the left edge and was slowly getting up from the bezel. I opened it up again and put some new glue on there and now its all good. I hope it will stick for a while. thx for the vid.
Hi ***** I love your tutorials, plus see perfectly, but a query, not fail to understand that this will repair or for the glue, or remove layers to the screen, So no breaks? Another query again, you can remove the glass lcd nexus 5? A greeting.
Thanks - that made a difficult job easier! A couple of things: I used superglue, sacrificing the ability to take it apart again for very quick drying. I also used a tooth pick to spread the superglue around the edges of the screen as there isn't much room there. Worked like a charm.
***** Is this only available outside the US? Can you give a link to where i can buy some? This looks like some good stuff! I to have used super glue but was hesitant to use it, fearing i would do more damage if i needed to ever repair the item again.
'Tarzans Grip' works fine and what we have here in Aus. Consistancy similar to your glue, no cyanocryalite (super glue). Be careful with superglue on aesthetic surfaces as it is highly volatile and quite often causes a cloudy deposit to form all around drop. Gets on glass or lens= FAIL.5 Look for a universal 'gooey' glue that can be used like contact adhesive or by straight press.
Really really helpful video. Just wanted to know if you yourself have had any experience with this screen replacement and if so could you tell me anything about the quality?? Thanks!
Please! How can I replace Just the front screen glass lense for Nexus 5? I am very Thnkful for your Le55ons they are calm and full of info. Front Screen glass lens for LG Google Nexus 5
The way you record your videos is very helpful. Is there a way to separate the screen from the digitizer? You don't mention it in your video. Basically my screen is working fine but the digitizer is broken. The screen costs around £80 and the digitizer only £7!!!
Thanks a lot for your video :) My Nexus 5 got some sweat inside the screen two days ago and parts of the screen are no longer responsive. I will try today your approach to try to dry it. Hope it fixes it (I had to replace the screen three weeks ago as it got completely broken after crashing to the floor :( )
the best and safest way to remove moisture is to heat the phone to about 60ºC and put it in a vacuum chamber for 20 minutes. This will boil off any water
Thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately, I have no vacuum chamber, so that possibility is discarded :( I tried yesterday afternoon to remove the screen heating it (using a hair dryer as heat source) but no success at all. It simply refused to detach from the frame. How long do I have to heat it? Anyway, thanks for your help :)
Hi there. Again, thanks for your help. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to try again with my hair dryer but, the question is different this time. (Let's see if I'm able to properly explain the problem in English) The central part of the screen, especially at the bottom, is not working. I mean, the home and drawer button do not work at all and, in lock screen, I have some issues pressing number 5. If I try to write something, keys W and S have a strange behaviour (seems as if I press any of the two adjacent keys) but groups T-Y-U, G-H-J and C-V-N do not work at all. So, all in all, should I get another screen and forget about this one? :( Anyway, I will try to find some time tonight and try, again, to remove the screen from front housing.
Thanks for the tutorial, very helpful! just broke my screen today :( just a question, is this the case if you're just changing the glass, and keeping the old LCD screen? and can you please also explain in detail how you heat up the phone with that thing? or if there's another alternative? thanks!
this is not a 'glass only' replacement, this is the complete screen assembly. For a glass only guide try this one Nexus 5 LCD Seperation - LOCA Replacement
JuzxPlayin x Thanks I figured it out. I was just wondering, if I were to purchase glue of some kind, what kind should I buy? Is any super glue good, or is there a specific glue for screens? And If I were to buy tape, how would i be able to tape the sides of the phone?
wildkit99 Super glue isn't advised at all most people use 3M double sided tape,I personally use 2mm tape, some use clear silicone adhesive and others use super glue is gel form (krazy glue kraft, loctite gel etc). tape is best IMO because if you make a mistake its easy to fix and try again.
wildkit99 I used the tape, but the sides of the phone are too thin for it, and they keep piping out. How do I apply the tape to the sides of the phone?
I used a similar frame/screen to fix my nexus 5, but when I put it together again it would not connect to the camera. I redid all the connections a few times and my camera worked in the old frame/screen. Would you have any idea why the cameras are not working?
My phone got run over.... Screen is obviously obliterated but cause the phone was in a good case (not quite car proof) the frame is fine. The phone is also on and seems to be working ok, I've made calls accidentally so stuff must be working. My question is, if I replace the screen, is there any common damage that you know of that a phone can sustain when damaged like this? I'm concerned I could go to the effort of replacing it and spending the money on a new screen and then after all that the actually phone is bust anyway! Thanks
Hi.. I'm getting vertical black lines on my nexus 5 display where white letters are coming and the lines are moving around with the letters. +LE55ONS Hi there, I've replaced my screen this afternoon, but suddenly the right side of the touch screen stops working, do you have any idea what could it be? Thank you.
After changing my screen I just get the "can't connect to the camera" problem. It seems that a lot of people have got this in the past but I'm thinking I must have broken it as I was disassembling the phone. Any ideas?

Yes, first (after drying the phone) everything worked, more or less. The touchpad responsebility was bad and the display was really stained but it worked.

Your calm voice made all this much nicer than the general disassembly (the one I watched made my heart go whoopeti-whoop). Thanks, great quality vid!
thanks so much. Never loved a phone more than my Nexus 5. I could cry just looking at the shattered screen. It's all fixed now! Thank you sir!

Hello. I am a follower yours from 2012 and the work you do feel me great. My question is kind of glue to use part of the double sided tape?
Hi Le55ons,
Where did you bought the glue?
Can you describe the "glue specs" so I can find it my self some where.
Thanks!
Your voice makes my ears melt, (A good thing)
Great video, when you mention heat source does it mean i can use lets say a heat gun ? i dont want to ruin any circuit on the frame...

Great help. I fixed mine with this tutorial! Thanks!
The way you record your videos is very helpful. Is there a way to separate the screen from the digitizer? You don't mention it in your video. Basically my screen is working fine but the digitizer is broken.
The screen costs around £80 and the digitizer only £7!!!
it can be done but its a bit messy and the results vary. Search for 'nexus 5 glass replacement' and you'll find a few videos showing how its done..
Cool bro. Nice Teardown!
Thanks a lot for your video :)

Ivan Clavijos Its worth a try, but you'll probably end up having to buy a new screen

Good tutorial! I have just one question.. What kind of glue are you using for mounting the LCD in the video?
www.bostik.co.uk/diy/product/evo-stik/Serious-Glue/16
Thanks!
very good instruction! i would love to see you do a tablet teardown. like SM-T520 or SM-T521.
Thank for your help.
I really admire your work!
Love your videos! I found them so relaxing! Have you consider tearing down something other than phones?
Its funny you should ask, I've almost finished something different which I'll upload soon..
can you separate the screen but with all components still inside? (battery, motherboard, etc) or do you have to take them away?
Really important!! Test the new LCD before you apply the glue...
Great video. Do I _need_ the screen with frame? Or am I ok with just the screen. The glass is shattered on mine; everything else seems ok.
if you buy a screen with the frame you won't need to do all this, just swap the parts over from your old screen
I've only broke the screen but touch still works. Will I need to buy a replacement with a digitizer or just the glass screen itself?? Please help!
Thank you so Mich for this video. Great help, just wondering how can I test out my new screen before disassembling my nexus 5 to make sure it works?
You would need to disassemble the phone to test the new phone screen in place of your old screen.

The glue you used, how easy is it to separate again if needed at a later time?
Would you recommend using glue over double sided adhesive tape? I have 2mm and 3mm 3M tape I've used on a couple tablets before.
as they used glue on the original screen I think its best to use glue again
My phone got run over.... Screen is obviously obliterated but cause the phone was in a good case (not quite car proof) the frame is fine. The phone is also on and seems to be working ok, I've made calls accidentally so stuff must be working.

Hi.
What type of glue are you using?
Great work as always..thanks Alot
Just did one tonight. Screen detaches from frame quite easily. Tell me please, what equipment do you use to shoot your videos? :)
Shot up close with a Panasonic HC-X900 and a Shure Microphone PG42 USB

Wonderful!
hey,i scratched my nexus 5 screen, hom much to fix it?,not too deep tho.just the glass not the lcd.thanks.

I wish there was a glue in the US that is known to work as good as serious glue for this type of application. I placed an order but it will take a few weeks because it is coming from the UK.
you could be a 'sole importer' for the usa :-)
We shall see :)
Awesome as always LE55ON5!
Thank you for the video.
One question.
I hab some washing powder between the layers of the display. Dissasabled, cleaned them and reassembled the Display. Now it stays black. What do you think is the monst likely reason for that? (I can see that the display is doing "somethink" if i look from the back i can see the light when its turned on and the backcover ist open.)
it sounds like the lcd display flex might have been damaged during cleaning. There's not much you can do except buy a new display..
Thank you.
Hello again,
i replaced the old display with a new one. The Display stays black but the smartphone (even the tuuchpad) is working. Do u have another idea what i can do? Thank you
Lukas Koester its a strange fault, was it working before trying to clean the washing powder ?
Yes, first (after drying the phone) everything worked, more or less. The touchpad responsebility was bad and the display was really stained but it worked.
Can we buy those layers behind the screen?

Just a question: Do you narrate the video afterwards? Or while you are repearing?
I used to do it live but when I make a mistake I had to keep putting the phone back together, so now I do it after editing
Oh okay :D
You don't happen to know where i van buy a new real authentic screen? I don't mean the whole houding, just the glass.
Ps. Great video's, You've earned yourself another subscriber!
I think the links in the description are genuine oem, you can ask in the online chat..
can ya change just the top glass rather than the full screen ?
What kind of glue are you using ?
Where can i buy this glue in American? I was redirected to the UK when I searched it.
I think it has a different name in the us, try contacting Evo-Stik and asking..
Do you have to use hot glue to fit the screen?
What are you doing with the LED light guide? I don't really understand why you take it off and put it back on.
If you had a new screen you might need to transfer it over from the old one
***** Ah, that makes sense. Also, great video, your voice is very relaxing and you're great at explaining this. Could you repeat what you recomended for removing excessive glue? Thats the only part I have trouble understanding now :)
Morten Hannemose before its set you can use white spirit and once its set it will need scraping off
What is the thing called that you used to pull the LCD from the from the housing?
its a car windscreen mobile phone holder being used as a sucker tool
Hey, on my nexus screen suddenly stopped working properly.. Only when i bend the phone a little, it start to show image on it. Whats the problem?
Possibly the flex cable isn't seated all the way. Tear it down and reseat the bottom flex cable.
Ethan Wallace I tried it already, with no luck, its even worse now.. I ordered new phone already, damn root mean no warranty, no image-on-screen mean no unroot.

Some how i just like to watch these videos of your's, i like your voice somehow.. no homo ofc.
Le550ns where to buy the frame? Thank you.
I can't find the frame for sale on its own, only with the screen..
Why does it have so many layers?? I've always wanted to know.
I think its to keep the backlight evenly lit across the whole screen
кто в курсе что за клей он использовал для экрана?
is that lcd or led ? i mean is same samsung galaxy
Thanks 4 the video!
luv this guy!!!
hi. i have this problem NEXUS 5 SCREEN GLITCH, BUGS, SCREEN FLICKER, SHAKING can i fix it whit the replace of the display? thanks....
I don't think a new screen will fix that problem, it will need to be replaced under warranty
i dont have warranty i buy it to a stranger....can you tell me, what can i do? thanks.... :(
kinkysito I would sell it to another stranger..
After doing this my phone turns on but the touch screen no longer works. Any ideas what I've done wrong?
what part did you replace?
***** I replaced the screen. The phone turns on and the new touch screen looks fine but doesn't react to the touch. I think I might have damaged it during the repair?

Still i m using my phone with dull brightness, when it vibrates again screen shows the full brightness.. Can you please suggest me some solution .. would be grateful to u ..
Sounds like you have a faulty new screen, I would ask them to try another one..

what is the exact name for that? I tried to seperate the screen lens from the LCD (shitty mistake). And now I can't do anything about it, should I just cash out on a new digitizer? Or is the one you mentioned cheaper?
Ketho Seyie You'll need to buy a complete screen assembly with or without the frame

What do you suggest; that I get a digitizer form OEM or some third party manufacturer? I messed up big this time but really want to fix this myself. And thanks for answering earlier.
