I think iron moth might rank higher in the future once the restricted mons come back. Miraidon can easily activate its ability with the electric terrain and iron moths fire type moves will hit like a truck due to the sun set by the legendaries (your or opponent koraidon,Groudon)
I mean this is a ranking amongst paradox pokemons who all have stats just short of pseudo legends, so 120 on a high stat being "average" somewhat makes sense
I think Sandy shocks right now actually has one very valuable use. It's one of only FIVE pokemon in this entire generation currently capable of having the move Gravity. And one of only TWO pokemon that learn it by leveling up, the other being Stonjourner. Being able to set up Gravity has a ton of uses, not only for sandy shocks but for the whole team. Not only does it make all pokemon grounded, viable to terrains and to a lesser extent entry hazards, but it also makes flying pokemon vulnerable to ground moves.. not that important admittedly since sandy shocks is also electric, but it also has one major, MAJOR use. It multiplies the accuracy stat by 1.67 for all pokemon on the field. This is more than enough to make sandy shocks thunder attack 100% accurate outside of rain. And can allow the entire team to run less accurate but powerful moves more reliably.
This is why I've really wanted to use Sandy Shocks myself! With booster energy and speed investment, it's as fast as if it were Scarfed, making it the fastest and most consistent mon in the regional dex for setting up Gravity (and its strongest STAB benefits from the accuracy boost). Really lookin forward to trying Shocks and Flapple together once the Paradox mons are allowed.
As a Gravity coinsure thats a neat idea- but yeah the nice part of Graviety for me has been the #1 the accuracy boost and #2 the Earthquake spam- so not being able to is kind of sadge. I guess there's always terra-typing when you send in your Ground-buddy. Also just for some diversity using Zap Cannon over Thunder could be fun but that's just 84% accuracy so you'd probably need to patch that up with a lens still. Getting some other low-accuracy moves like Focus Blast would be spicy too but this magnet doesn't get Lock-On so maybe GF didn't see the flavor for it.
@@thekeyandthegate4093 Wow that sounds really fun- gonna have to start taking some notes of funny things to do with Gravity since it's been a while for me Edit; Apple dragon guy gets Hustle- giving it +50% damage but -20% accuracy which if totally fine under Gravity. I kinda have a biase with Sandy Shocks, since it was the first Shiny I caught while Shiny Hunting. I like it's 101 Spe and 121 SpA cuz you can put 252 in both along with a Timid Nature and your Spe is still low enough to be under SpA. Meaning you'll benefit from Protosynthesis SpA, while gaining the most out of your Spe.
Btw, jugulus(from iron jugulus) is a plural of the word jugula, meaning the lower throat or the part of the neck just above the breast of a bird. or the collarbone
It's very interesting coming back to this video after seeing this pokemon perform throughout the year. I think Wolf would definitely rank them differently now, but his reasoning to put some of these Pokémon higher then they should be is really solid and I see them actually working better in a different meta
There is a mistake on Iron Jugulis Stats on 6:59 , actual stats are HP: 94 Atk: 80 Def: 86 SpA: 122 SpD: 80 Spe: 108 Dont know if you actually ranked it based on the wrong stats and if it affects the position, still nice video!

One thing that I feel like should have been mentioned for Roaring Moon is the insane combo of Booster Energy, Tera Flying and Acrobatics. Boosting your speed or attack stat, then hitting with a base 110 STAB move is insane
Ive found a useful Slither Wing strat on showdown. With EVs and a good nature its possible to make slither wing and some other paradoxes have a higher speed stat than their attack stat which when combined with harsh sunlight makes them 1.5 times faster. If you then give it a choice band its attack will also be 1.5 times stronger. Since you didnt invest many attack evs you can still boost its HP or defense stats which can turn slither wing into a monster sometimes
One thing you didn't mention about Iron Bundle: it actually has Freeze-Dry, which means it's stabs aren't truly resisted by Water types, since Freeze-Dry hits them Supereffectively.
Ground and fighting are tied for being super effective against the most types in the game, if I recall correctly. Though there is some overlap, it's nice that they combined the two. Plus Great Tusk looks very cool.
Wolfey probably wont see this but, The "Jugulous" in iron Jugulous actually refers to the Jugular Lymphatic Node, which is located in the neck, there is a slang term in certain places in the united states "going for the jugular" which means to attack at the neck.
>Sandy Shocks isn't strong enough >121 Special Attack >Iron Bundle has a good Special Attack stat >124 Special Attack Those 3 points are the definition of World Champ difference
Scream Tail is waaaaaaay underrated. It's ridiculous how low you have this thing. Before realizing it was banned, I tried using it in my first showdown team because of some really strong thing it had, I went looking for it just now and can't find it but I'm not gonna spend too long on it. What I will say is if you're running support Pokemon, this ones stats are amazing.Any defensive baton passer or if you need to lower the enemies attack, this thing does it. Psychic Fangs will remove screens. You rate it low because of it's stats, but it's stats are the thing that make it so good. It's a fast tank, that isn't specialized to deal with 1 kind of damage, and it has a solid HP pool unlike most "tanks"
@@TheKampfmaschine I mean, I guess that would make sense, but with larvesta being a larvae/coccon pokemon and so weak and late game most people wont ever attack with I dont mind the stat inconsistency
Iron Hands being able to use Belly Drum should not be overlooked as it enables it to do huge damage which in conjunction with its high HP stat and Drain Punch makes it an effective sweeper
Now that I’ve managed to get all the Paradox Pokémon by shiny hunting for each of them, it’s going to be interesting to see how much they’re gonna change the meta once they become legal in ranked and VGC
I love slither wing so much, i use it with grassy seed and a tanky brute bonnet with sunny day and grassy terrain In double battles It bulking up as brute bonnet grassy terrains, then next turn whatever attack is right while brute bonnet sets sunny day with the item that extends the sun Turn slither wing into bruiser with a back up brute bonnet that can help kill bulky pokemon if needed and cover slither wings physic weakness
03:02 slither wing also gets access to acrobatics, and with protosinthesis + booster energy wich gets used when entering the battle it can give 'em a +1atk and boosted acrobatics. If you remember gen 5 flying gem acrobatics you should know how devastating that is but with the booster energy he gets the same boost until it switches out or faints plus it also has terastalization to absolutely nuke anything. No single type can resist both its stabs, fire (flare blitz) AND flying (acrobatics), with that he can hit normal, fighting, rock, bug, steel, grass, psychic, ice and dark. I can see how that speed stat can be devastating, but if you can get slither wing into a threatening position it has no switch ins edit: it also gets flame charge (and trailblaze) wich doesnt seem like much but with some speed control support (fast icy wind or electroweb) it can defineately be a threat, if what you dont want is speed rather being slow for trick room, spiritomb is your perfect pokemon, its slow with access to both scary face and trick room. (other options with those two moves are banette, gengar, hypno, mismagius, toedscruel and even screamtail) some sets you culd run would be : flare blitz, flame charge, close combat and acobatics (paired with speed support) or protect, flare blitz, crobatics and close combat (with trick room) I am by no means no expert but i do think wolfe is underestimating slither wing
Iron jugulis does hit like an absolute truck. I handed one a life orb and I’m constantly blown away at how fast it blows through some of the more defensive Pokémon in the game.
It’s interesting to see the differences between singles and doubles. There’s obviously some overlap, iron bundle and flutter mane were both so strong that they were banworthy, since iron bundle has insane speed and perfect neutral coverage with freeze dry + hydro pump, making it a devastating wallbreaker, and flutter mane is self explanatory. Roaring moon is also great in singles. But brute bonnet is one of the worst, since it’s so slow and weak to common types like fighting and it’s wrecked by u turn. And great tusk is probably the best in singles right now, excluding the banned ones, because of its typing offensively, it’s access to moves like knock off, stealth rock, and rapid spin for team support (it’s one of the few hazard removal options that can beat gholdengo), and it’s defensive bulk. It can run a lot of options, defensive is the most common but choiced or bulk up has been seen as well.
@@Lordmewtwo151 No he said "one the few hazard removal options that can beat Gholdengo", he doesn't mean that Rapid Spin beats Gholdengo but that Rapid Spin Great Tusk beats Gholdengo thanks to it's access to Ground STAB and Knock Off for the Balloon sets (and even to still smack it with middle ground plays)
@@sephikong8323 So he meant the pokemon with the move, not the move itself. Couldn't Gholdengo capitalize on the low special defense, or is the HP sufficient to check it?
@@Lordmewtwo151 Great Tusk outspeeds Gholdengo naturally and even without investment, Scarf Make it Rain (the only version that can outspeed an offensive Great Tusk, then again it does not work against probably one of my favorite offensive GT set : Max HP, Max Speed Jolly Booster Energy, that way you get the speed boost) has only about a 30% chance to OHKO whereas the versions that can guarantee OHKO like LO or Specs are outsped. Meanwhile the more defensive versions of Great Tusk are outsped but Make it Rain just *bounces* off Spe Def Great Tusk (Scarf does around 35% MAX meanwhile EQ has about 50% chance to OHKO with just 4 EV). So yeah, Great Tusk has globally a favorable MU against Gholdengo, it's not perfect but it gets the job done
Really liked this video. I just wish you'd keep all the base stats on display for a while while talking about each Pokémon - it doesn't come as naturally to me as it probably does to you. Cheers! 🙂
Worth pointing out that if paradox mons ever get their original counterparts abilities, Sandy Shocks goes from the clear worst to one of the best of the paradoxes. It would be a better change for its angles presence, but would also be a very good steel trapper in VGC too.
Roaring Moon's most threatening sweeper set in singles is Terra Flying Acrobatics-spam after consuming Booster Energy and setting up Dragon Dance. I suppose doubles has more counterplay against strats like that, but it's still a very notable move. RM also get Taunt and U-turn, neither of which were mentioned.
Roaring moon also gets breaking swipe and snarl which let it lower either the attack or special attack of both opposing pokemon. So a tailwind snarl breaking swipe build might prove to be a strong support option
I've tried Tera Electric on Slither Wing to relative success, the resistance to it's previous quad weakness, flying, is very good, and you can easily OHKO common flying types with a now STAB Wild Charge.
Also, one thing that I think Wolfey didn't mention is the fact that Slither Wing gets First Impression. I don't know if that matters that much in doubles, but STAB First Impression coming off a 135 Attack Pokémon is pretty brutal. I've killed a lot of shit with it on singles.
I love Fluttermane I started to use Mismagius on my legends Arceus team and I got realy attached to the Pokémon and to see it get a paradox form is just amazing!
best part of the video is iris' theme while discussing Iron jugulis, that's such a nice touch. thanks for the breakdown wolfey, and dare i say you have the best lips in the pokemon meta since jynx.
I’m happy flutter mane is so strong. It’s my favorite paradox Pokémon ( and I don’t know why ) and I’m happy to finally see a Pokémon I like be popular!
Now hold on, with slither wing you have the best first impression user, that thing guarantees a kill with it for neutral damage, and if you are in sun and choice banded i would argue its a reliable OHKO as a final gambit would be
About the only thing that stands out about sandy shocks to me is that its the current fastest Gravity user since theres no alakazam, or arceus right now... but like what are you gonna do with that? max speed max hp booster energy and partner it with a choice band, hustle(gravity drops evasion so you won't miss) Flapple spamming grav apple(which gets powered up in gravity), then just give SS screech and/or metal sound which will hit 100% accurate under gravity and then like earth power or maybe mud shot for the speed drops?
you forgot to mention acrobatics on roaring moon. 1.3 boost by switching in, 1.5 from tera on a move with 110 bp. The damage alone is absurdly high with no drawback
I think a benfit of scream tail is that it’s move pool in insane it gets bulk up, calm mind, tons of physical and special coverage, all of the weather, the screens, thunder wave, and more
I’m glad that even the worst paradox pokemon aren’t completely bad. I do kinda wanna try using all of them at one point since I’m a fan of both scarlet and Violet paradox Pokémon. (Also because managed to shiny hunt all of them :3 ) Great vid Wolfey!
I hope we get a Paradox form of Flygon. It would be a Flying/Ground type and possibly a Violet exclusive. It’s name would be Iron Gale and it’s wings would be able to create tornadoes or sandstorms similar to its base dex entry
I want an ancient dragon-flygon from Scarlet maybe more so. Though with it's lensed-eyes I could see it going with some future-like scouter apparatus and being pretty sweet. Skipped getting a mega so it's only fair please gamefreak
It's a shame Sandy Shocks doesn't stand out among the Paradoxes, it's one of my favourites not just for that group but of all mons, and my shiny one is staying with me forever through all games now!
I would love to see an analysis of how Pokemon would be if every final evolution had a base stat total of 600 (meaning they get the difference between their current BST and 600 divided by 6 added to each stat, so Chansey and blissey get the overflow from their HP divided by 5 and added to the rest of its stats) and Pokemon higher than 600 would be lowered by the same amount as those who get boosts You mention having a high BST is objectively good so I'd like to know from a professional how a normalized Pokemon metagame would be
Shedinja might get 1-2 more hp. Truly the scariest thought. For real though I’ve thought about this exact thing. It bothers me that every pseudo legendary after Metagross has been a dragon type, and that a lot of Pokémon were given 600 bst by mega evolving at the expense of held items.
There's a Smogon format for that called Scalemons. The scaling is different (it multiplies all non-HP stats by the ratio between 600 and its current BST) but the basic principle is the same. In this meta, one of the most broken mons in the history of the format... is Abra
@@mb778_ doesnt it become just a better Alakazam, since abra already has like 100 base special attack and a high speed tier for first stage i assume it hits harder and is faster than the evolutions.
@@mb778_ yeah this is more what I had in mind, a multiplicative scaling instead of an additive scaling like the original post said. Edit: just looked up Abra for fun. That would be a base 200ish sp atk and 175ish speed on a magic guard Pokémon. What on earth.
Slither wings can also learn earthquakes and volt tackle which are good coverages combined with Tera. But that speed stat is the true kick for such an offensive pkm.
Interesting to watch this with hindsight. Dead on with Flutter Mane, Iron Treads and Great Tusk should be switched around at the very least, Brute Bonnet still outclassed by its normal counter-part and Iron Hands while ranked high here probably deserves a 2nd or 3rd place spot instead of 5th.
Yeah I agree, Great Tusk actually had some usage and even torniment wins while iron treads didnt really get any results, and also the fact that Iron hands won the world championship while the other above it (not including Fluttermain) didnt
Hey Wolf. Actually, Jugulis is the plural of jugulum, a word of Latin origins that means something along the lines of neck or collar bone. So the name is saying more something along the lines of Iron Necks. Which is more interesting ( to me) then many of the other names.
Kinda defeats the purpose of a Pokemon based on a Hydra, a creature that can spawn more heads when cut off at the neck. Also wish the added two more heads to make it stand out as a future form.
its funny to see how much people have optimized since this list was made, Iron Hands is practically on every team, Great Tusk sees more usage than Iron Treads does (OU vs UU respectively), Brute Bonnet is in NU.

King's Rock Maushold is very happy
Gravity is also fun if you happen to use Flapple because it boosts Grav Apple's power to 120.
@@thekeyandthegate4093 Wow that sounds really fun- gonna have to start taking some notes of funny things to do with Gravity since it's been a while for me
Edit; Apple dragon guy gets Hustle- giving it +50% damage but -20% accuracy which if totally fine under Gravity. Hmmm time to teach Issaac Newton a lesson
Sandy shocks is one of those mons that would much rather have its modern ability, like magnet pull.

This plus rocks, earth power, thunder bolt, and tera blast ice make sandy shocks a killer rocks starter too
'first shiny'
Man I spent 20+ minutes just trying to find 1 non-shiny; couldn't even fathom hunting for multiple.
Btw, jugulus(from iron jugulus) is a plural of the word jugula, meaning the lower throat or the part of the neck just above the breast of a bird. or the collarbone

It actually says that in the video lol
So it means iron necks?
Idk what Wolfey searched but I found out what it meant in like 5 seconds lol
Isn't it "Jugulis"?
It's very interesting coming back to this video after seeing this pokemon perform throughout the year. I think Wolf would definitely rank them differently now, but his reasoning to put some of these Pokémon higher then they should be is really solid and I see them actually working better in a different meta

Dont know if you actually ranked it based on the wrong stats and if it affects the position, still nice video!
I'd say what he says still make sense. Those are respectable, but not great defenses, and good speed and special attack.
Seems the editor accidentally inserted Scream Tail's stats
Kinda funny coincidence how at 14:15 when he’s talking about how Iron Hands is slow enough to work in trick room bronzing kinda just floats down

I can’t believe he won with the paradox mon he said was the third worst, truly the world champ difference

Wolfey probably wont see this but, The "Jugulous" in iron Jugulous actually refers to the Jugular Lymphatic Node, which is located in the neck, there is a slang term in certain places in the united states "going for the jugular" which means to attack at the neck.
jugulis is the proper latin plural dative form of jugulum, latin for throat. It's name means Iron Throats
why would it be in dative though
This video is very good. I hope we get a restricted paradox format for VGC soon so I can use your tips.

it’s really interesting to me how much great tusk is just lando reincarnated in singles but in doubles it serves a completely different niche
>Sandy Shocks isn't strong enough
>121 Special Attack
>Iron Bundle has a good Special Attack stat
>124 Special Attack
Those 3 points are the definition of World Champ difference
Wolfey: Iron Jugulus has a really good special attack stat
Also wolfey: base 65 special attack
I like the idea of Slither Wing being a physical attacker. It makes more sense as the evolution of Larvesta than Volcarona does

I love slither wing so much, i use it with grassy seed and a tanky brute bonnet with sunny day and grassy terrain
In double battles
It bulking up as brute bonnet grassy terrains, then next turn whatever attack is right while brute bonnet sets sunny day with the item that extends the sun
Turn slither wing into bruiser with a back up brute bonnet that can help kill bulky pokemon if needed and cover slither wings physic weakness
I'm running an anything goes doubles tourney rn so this is super helpful
scream tail perish song + palafin sounds like such a funny lead tbh. making up for the switch disadvantage by creating an imbalance of your own
I don't care if Slither Wing's not the best, it's still my precious baby.
03:02
slither wing also gets access to acrobatics, and with protosinthesis + booster energy wich gets used when entering the battle it can give 'em a +1atk and boosted acrobatics. I can see how that speed stat can be devastating, but if you can get slither wing into a threatening position it has no switch ins
edit: it also gets flame charge (and trailblaze) wich doesnt seem like much but with some speed control support (fast icy wind or electroweb) it can defineately be a threat, if what you dont want is speed rather being slow for trick room, spiritomb is your perfect pokemon, its slow with access to both scary face and trick room. (other options with those two moves are banette, gengar, hypno, mismagius, toedscruel and even screamtail)
some sets you culd run would be :
flare blitz, flame charge, close combat and acobatics (paired with speed support)
or
protect, flare blitz, crobatics and close combat (with trick room)
I am by no means no expert but i do think wolfe is underestimating slither wing
Rapid spin can beat Gholdengo? Since when does Rapid Spin ever remove hazards against a Ghost type? If Gholdengo is terrastalized, sure.

Worth pointing out that if paradox mons ever get their original counterparts abilities, Sandy Shocks goes from the clear worst to one of the best of the paradoxes. It would be a better change for its angles presence, but would also be a very good steel trapper in VGC too.
Wolfe ranked scream tails lower just so he could abuse it and win regionals with it Lol
Im very surprised he didn't mention Acrobatics for Roaring Moon even if its only for singles
For the brief time between online battles launching and the ladder ruleset's announcement, this was also a viable set for Moon.
I find it funny that he shows us a shot of roaring moon beeing stuck in a wall, while saying that it will win tournaments
Roaring moon also gets breaking swipe and snarl which let it lower either the attack or special attack of both opposing pokemon. So a tailwind snarl breaking swipe build might prove to be a strong support option
Sounds gimmicky but could force switches.
Wolfey: “Iron jugulis has a very good special attack stat”
*proceeds to show 65 spa. atk
its actually weird how polarizing the past mons are
like bottom three and top three are all past

I’m happy flutter mane is so strong. It’s my favorite paradox Pokémon ( and I don’t know why ) and I’m happy to finally see a Pokémon I like be popular!
Now hold on, with slither wing you have the best first impression user, that thing guarantees a kill with it for neutral damage, and if you are in sun and choice banded i would argue its a reliable OHKO as a final gambit would be
These new videos are great! Love the work you and the team are doing
I would really love to see a tier list of what you think of the new Pokemon but design wise
you forgot to mention acrobatics on roaring moon. 1.3 boost by switching in, 1.5 from tera on a move with 110 bp. The damage alone is absurdly high with no drawback
I’m excited to see them in competitive when they’re allowed
0:36 bro that espathra just did a crime bruh 💀
wonder what Perish Song + Stakeout Mabosstiff team would look like...

So who's here after Wolfe won regionals with Scream Tail?
Man, the Pokemon Conquest psychic battle coming on when you started the future gallade section gave me such nostalgia.
I’m glad they (not really) buff Deliberd into Iron Bundle, plus, it can shoot out it’s head and globe thing and Water Ice is good in my opinion.
It's a shame Sandy Shocks doesn't stand out among the Paradoxes, it's one of my favourites not just for that group but of all mons, and my shiny one is staying with me forever through all games now!
I always find it comical how the video ends just by cutting him off lmao, amazing video as always!
I would love to see an analysis of how Pokemon would be if every final evolution had a base stat total of 600 (meaning they get the difference between their current BST and 600 divided by 6 added to each stat, so Chansey and blissey get the overflow from their HP divided by 5 and added to the rest of its stats) and Pokemon higher than 600 would be lowered by the same amount as those who get boosts
You mention having a high BST is objectively good so I'd like to know from a professional how a normalized Pokemon metagame would be
Shedinja might get 1-2 more hp. Truly the scariest thought.
For real though I’ve thought about this exact thing. It bothers me that every pseudo legendary after Metagross has been a dragon type, and that a lot of Pokémon were given 600 bst by mega evolving at the expense of held items.
@@Rageball28 at least shedinja would be able to use sub, kinda scary tbf.
There's a Smogon format for that called Scalemons. The scaling is different (it multiplies all non-HP stats by the ratio between 600 and its current BST) but the basic principle is the same. In this meta, one of the most broken mons in the history of the format... is Abra

Also wish the added two more heads to make it stand out as a future form.
