The reason Kingambit signature move is called Kowtow Cleave is because in it's animation it puts it's head against the ground in the process cleaving whatever is in the way. Kowtowing is a form of showing extreme respect by bowing on the ground with your forehead against the ground.
Fun fact: Arboliva is the only Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet that learns Terrain Pulse. After being hit, terrain pulse is Arboliva's strongest move with no drawbacks. Paired with its low speed allowing it to invest in other stats, it can stay in for a long time and do a ton of damage while healing its ally.
I think it's worthwhile to mention Mousehold's other signature move, Tidy Up. It not only raises Mousehold's attack and speed stats by one stage (it's best stats depending on the build) but it eliminates ALL entry hazards, sticky web, and substitutes on the field. This works particularly well on opposing subs, something I've been seeing often with the introduction of shed tail
Honestly not so sure about Tidy Up, at least in Doubles. Hazards are way less prevalent (a lot less switching means that punishing switches is less good), and the preferred Normal type defensive option is Protect, due to its greater versatility. That said, absurd in Singles.
Two things: One is that this move will not fail even if there are no entry hazards on the field, so it's essentially a Dragon Dance but always with extra benefits Two is that you should NEVER use this move if you got Maushold into the field via Shed Tail, as using this move clears your own substitute as well
I make $ 25,450 weekly trading profit with her, I only trust Mrs. Allison Parker with my investments. Am now able to send my kids to great schools in LA, all thanks to Mrs. Allison Parker..
There's one feature of Rage fist that wasn't mention and it's that the increase in base power of the move doesn't reset when annihilape switches out. Have a multi hit move hit the pokemon max times, if it dies, use revival blessing to revive it and it keeps the base power increase and it's gonna wreck the opponent.
@@jackcarlson4358 yet it's still plausible, terrastalize it. Yet i do see what you mean, it'll be better if it starts off with a type not immune to normal
Kingambit’s slow speed is also probably due to the whole line being based on chess, and the King is the “slowest” piece in chess, since you’ll rarely be trying to move it.
That's exactly what I thought when I first realized what his stats were. I also thought that one day we could get a counterpart line of chess pieces as well that weren't used like Knight, Rook and Queen. The Queen counterpart of Kingambit would be very fast and less bulky compared to Kingambit since in chess you are protecting the King hence Kingambit's high defense and the Queen would be less bulky and way faster since it is the best and most mobile piece on the board. I seriously want a convergent evolution concept of this like they did with Wiglett and Toedscool or maybe just a brand new line as counterparts.
@@Johan_4587 They could call them Rookidee Corviknight and Corvi...queen? In all seriousness though I really hope this does happen, such a cool concept. Love bisharp already
@@JakeFish5058 I knew I wouldn’t be the only one to think of the Rookidee line. Honestly in Chess I’d say it would be reverse because I feel like the Rook is a stronger piece than the Knight. I’m not entirely sure and it’s been a while since I even played Chess but it’s safe to say the Queen piece would be the final evolution. I just wish that there was another line so there’s be a full Chess team in the game. There could even be a mini game where it’s literally just Chess but it’s with the Pokémon in the next Generation. Of course with an added gimmick that makes it different than just Chess.
Honestly, it feels like 10 slots just isn’t enough for Scarlet and Violet with the sheer number of great new Pokémon. Aside from The honorable mentions, there’s the incredibly solid tank Garganacl, Espathra with Speed Boost shenanigans, Cyclizar and Orthworm with Shed Tail plus recovery, Clodsire with its nice typing and great abilities, Lokix with Tinted Lens and First Impression plus a surprisingly nice typing and movepool, and of course all three starters. It’s genuinely impressive how many good Pokémon we got this time around.
@@samkaufman3261 Because that would be cheating… besides, everyone in their mother would expect/pick Flutter Mane as number 1, any none sucker punch users are screwed with this thing
I love the backstory behind Baxcalibur. So Baxcalibur was inspired by two things. Kaiju, or giant Japanese monsters that are humanoid in shape that attack cities (like Godzilla). And the Concavenator, an actual extinct genus of theropod dinosaurs that lived approximately 130 million years ago and was first discovered in the Las Hoyas geological formation near Cuenca, Spain! Since Paldea is of course based off Spain (as well as Portugal), it only makes sense it's based off a fossil found there.
I think Garganacl deserves a spot, or an honorable mention at least. It's impossible to kill quickly, has pretty good offensive stats, and ALSO has the sIgnAtuRe aTacK salt cure, which keeps doing damage even after you switch out. It's low speed is low enough for trick room, and on top of salt cure, they decided to let it have iron defense AND body press. This Minecraft golem is very strong and even stronger in trick room, definitely a fitting strength for the saltyest pokemon ever.
this. garganacl literally counters the mons that counters it. corviknight dies to salt cure, any fighting type gets walled by +6 def and tera fairy. it also has really decent special bulk so it can tank special hits and hit them with boosted body press.
@Tarnishedd Tera fairy is nice but Tera ghost could be better since you'd be immune to fighting all together and with its ability only have a weakness for dark after terrastilizing. It also gets curse which is good without terrastilizing but after could make for some gimmicky strats for removing Pokémon from the field with passive damage with salt cure
@@tobiisbanned while i dont agree with the curse strat since passive damage with salt cure is already good enough, no reason really to use curse at all when salt cure is active i have tried tera ghost before and yeah its also a really good option, it might actually be better than tera fairy.
Let's not forget that its signature agility, Purifying Salt, that makes it immune to status aliments + gives it an extra resistance to Ghost and It also gets Clear Body, because why not? The only real bad thing about Garganacl is its Typing which isn't even that big of a deal tbh
Another note about Kingambit: In single battles, it can get up to a 50% Attack boost if the rest of the team has fainted, meaning you effectively have a Choice Band without the move restriction
Imagine that with like Life Orb or Assault Vest and Sucker Punch. Effing absurd. GameFreak decided to make tons of Pokémon absolutely bonkers this gen. Which is sorta fun.
@@tobymacdonald5893 they absolutely are tho... and he didn`t even get to talk about paradox pokemon in this video which are breaking the meta wide open. This is the most insane power creep pokemon has ever had
I believe Kingambit keeps track of every time a mon is KO'ed so using Revival Blessing or (when applicable) Revives can further build up its power. Same for Last Respects.
I'm so happy that maushold, a two-stage normal type, ended up strong enough to get an honorable mention. it's so goofy, very easily one of my new favorites
I'm predicting a lot of trick room teams with all these power mons with slow stats. Like you said in the vid, teams that hit first usually win. Speed control is gonna be huge this gen.
yeah in competitive right now pretty much every team either needs trick room or a way to stop trick room, i played in a big tournament last weekend and trick room is already proving to be a huge part of the meta from what i saw (i brought a tailwind/trick room balance team and faced a lot of trick room). torkoal is great and it’s basically the slowest thing in the game, apart from some irrelevant not fully evolved mons, and armarouge is a great trick room setter that sees a ton of play, with and without indeedee. at first i really expect armarouge to be a very two dimensional mon that just clicked expanding force but it has so many different sets and many ways to use it, which is a nice surprise as someone who really liked it from when they revealed it a while ago.
@@challengerprod not too sure about that..I've been using farigiraf with great success. And oronguru has always been a great trick room mon. Honorable mention for hatterene as well.
I’m surprised you forgot to mention Baxcalibur’s signature ability Thermal Exchange which boosts its attack stat if hit by a fire-type move. This ability also prevents it from getting burned.
One of the things to mention regarding Goldengho's ability that does bring it down to earth slightly is that it also cannot be affected by your teammate's positive status moves, either. For example, you cannot use Heal Pulse or Helping Hand on it.
Garganacl has been a top tier mon in singles, It is one of the best if not the best pure Rock-type of all time, amazing ability, great bulk, not passive, good signature move, good movepool with moves like recover and the tera mechanic makes this mon even better.
I was thinking the main antagonist would have it 💀 Ash doesn't have the best record with water types being his best Pokemon (Greninja being an exception, but he's the first water starter Ash had that evolved, so we knew he was gonna be something different)
Palafin definitely has that *_'protagonist energy'_* to it's personality and design, I could definitely see Ash catching one on his adventure around Paldea (which is confirmed now) or some other notable reoccurring / side character having it
The coolest part about Kingambit is that Bisharp now qualifies as an eligible Eviolite holder. I feel as though we will be seeing a lot of that this generation haha
@@DarkseidTCG probably kimgambits defense is so high that the eviolite really only matters against all the special attacks you mostly already resist and the speed is still a bit to low, but in exchange you don't have to look at kingambit, so Bisharp is my pick
Garganacl is seeing a lot of usage too. It's bulk it's good, it's signature ability makes him immune to status condition and resistant to ghost, while it's signature move forces switches and deals a ton o passive damage. Furhermore, it has access to body press alongside with 130 base defense stat and iron defense, making him also an offensive threat
I used Palafin on my playthrough team, and it was an absolute savior in a lot of situations, just a straight up monster. It could sweep with coverage, it could tank, it could be a pivot or bait with Flip Turn, it just did everything I needed.
I think you should have also mentioned Tinkaton's abilities. Mold Breaker lets it bypass Inner Focus and flinch with Fake Out, and Own Tempo makes it immune to Intimidate which stops it from being completely invalidated as a damage dealer.
Hey Wolfey. Loving the video. Really informative and I really appreciate the editors notes and explanations on screen. It makes it easier to understand and more accessible. Great content
Given that Bisharp is my favorite pokemon, when I heard that it got an evolution I was hyped. But, Kingambit was a Pokémon I was initially apprehensive about it. Then, I got my shiny Bisharp to a Kingambit and I fell in love. Those stats, while he's slow, are just beautiful. I need to experiment with EV spreads but I still love him so much
@@gamester512 oh yeah, it's a brutal experience. I avoid Kingambit raids if possible, and only do them if they're my daily 6 star. Even then, there are times where the effort doesn't seem all that worth it for the rewards at the end

I'm surprised that Cyclizar wasn't high on this list given how universally useful shed tail + regenerator seems. Also, Choice Band Palafin under rain with water tera is terrifying
cyclizar is bad in VGC. getting a free sub isn’t worth it in such a fast paced meta, especially when you can just double into a slot to break sub and faint something.
It's easier than ever this gen! You can buy EV drinks, nature mints, AND bottle caps and ability capsules at Chansey supply easily, plus the EV reset berries are VERY plentiful. It's quite possible to tweak your in-game team to be perfect for VGC, or train up a fresh one yourself in just a day's work!
espathra could see some usage. having the ability speed boost is already quite decent, paired with calm mind/protect/stored power/lumina crash could be insane.
I agree. I usually watch the videos twice. Once just listening to them while im busy at work and then again when I have time to sit down and appreciate the editing.
I feel the snow to hail buff will greatly help ice types in general. For along time ice has been the 'glass cannon' type with great offensive interactions but too many weaknesses. The defence buff from snow might help ice types live a little longer and make use of their offensive intersections. I feel the only bitter sweet thing is that abomasnw is the only viable snow setter currently in the game with, Ninetails, Aurorus and vaniluxe not being in the game yet. hopefully when/if the Pokédex is expanded to include Alolan ninetails and other previously 'ok' ice types we can see how great the buff actually makes the type :) which I'm super excited for, ice has been my favourite type forever and I'm excited to see so many ice types already in the list and the potential for a lot more when snowscape is truly tested :)
I'm slowly getting more and more into competitive pokemon and these videos have been a massive help. A video that I would like to see (unless you already done it if so then don't worry about it) is a video that is like a guide to make a competitive team, like what roles we would need to consider, what pokemon could fill those roles, etc etc. I think it'd be really cool and can't see what other videos the world champ has in store for us.
I would also appreciate this, I've wanted to get into competitive for a while but it always seemed daunting. With the combination of all the QOL changes in Scarlet and Violet+Wolfey being incredible at making stuff that sounds really complicated easy to understand I think I might actually put some work in this gen.
I’m glad Maushold got an honorable mention but it still should be said that its second signature ability shouldn’t be overlooked and is probably one of the main reasons it’s a sweeper. Tidy Up is so insane.
@@karetsu889 he almost never covers singles content, probably because he doesn’t have much experience in it. I’ve done pretty ok on the doubles ladder (2000ish) for the past 6 months or so, I tried singles once with my same team and got absolutely obliterated
1: felt meowscarda could be on the list, having an amazing signature move flower trick which never misses, always gets a crit and is a base 70 move it speed is a threat as it can run life orb or choice band while outspeeding most of the meta. It also gets knock off, sucker punch, play rough, U-turn and other moves im lazy to search up. Not to mention its hidden ability protean which it can play with the foes it can run tera type grass/dark for STAB (same time attack bonus) and i do not know any other usefull tera types for it 2: kilowattrel can outspeed most of the meta, being the second fastest flying type, it gets a new ability called wind absorb. Wind absorb charges kilowattrel and makes it more powerful i think, it also gets volt absorb, but the best thing here is its hidden ability, Competitive. I prefer giving kilowattrel a life orb with max speed investment ( 383 max speed without scarf + timid nature ) while its max special attack is 306. I go with tera type electric cause of volt switch (i personally enjoy watching my opponents suffer due to volt switch) other then that, its pretty strong
Palafin also combos very well with Killowattrel! In my playthrough I would lead Palafin in important battles, Flip Turn out to Kilowattrel, and then use Tailwind. Kilowattrel has an ability that boosts the power of its electric type moves when its hit by a wind attack, and its own Tailwind activates this. From there I used its boosted speed and electric power to destroy with Electroball and/or to let it get a quick Volt Switch and bring out a tailwind boosted Palafin
Hey Wolfey! About 8 months ago, I stumbled upon your videos for the first time, having known nothing of doubles VGC and having played little to no competitive Pokémon. I thought you would be proud to know that as of 6:17pm MST 12/8/2022, I reached Masterball tier in Pokémon SV ranked online. Thank you for teaching me how to do something that I've come to really enjoy!
Your editor knocked it out ofnthe park with this video and you did a great job writing it. Very good content, flows well, is interesting, fun, and well paced. Any work that you're putting in is definitely showing these recent videos are 🔥
The blurbs explaining/reminding competitive concepts are a really good way to keep casual/noncompetitive players following along, definitely something to keep around!
As soon as I saw Palafin's Hero Form I immediately thought "those mfs really just brought Sidon into Pokemon." and I'm so here for it. The absolute madlads.
I really love using Garganacl! Salt Cure is really good when it comes to countering steel- and water-types! I didn’t know that about Palafin! What a cool feature!
I've seen your shorts before and really enjoyed them but this is the first long form videos and I love the animations and graphics. Definitely deserving of a sub! Can't wait to see more in the future.
Loving this new gen breakdowns for competitive but seeing anihilape ( probably not well written ) got me thinking of all the pokemon that got new evolutions as potential eviolite users. Maybe a top 10 on new possible eviolite combinations?
Thank you sm for helping to develop the vgc community! These videos are super helpful! I was wondering if you would do more videos where you would take an in depth look into specific new pokemon like you did when swsh came out. Those were the videos (the duraladon one specifically lol) that introduced me to your channel and really got me interested in vgc because I was able to find the specific new pokemon that I wanted to use. I also liked how you would explore the pokemon live in the video because it gave a sense of what traits to look for when choosing a pokemon, what pokemon might complement it on the same team, and just generally made me a better teambuilder. I can't wait to see what you do in the future!
"Being able to swap it out with, I don't know, actual resistances is as youth say, POGGERS" Wolfey be like *"How do ya do, fellow kids?"* ...something tells me Clive has inspired you! 😂So Tatsugiri going into Dondozo's mouth is a reference to mouth-brooding and how some catfish species will keep their offspring safe by holding them inside their mouths. Why is a sushi Pokémon a Dragon-type? Because in East Asia, carp are associated with dragons. In Chinese mythology, the tale of Longmen states if a carp can leap the Dragon Gate (a waterfall), they transform into a powerful dragon.
What I like most about Arboliva is that you can run Tera Blast as a normal STAB so it doesn't essentially have a wasted move slot if you don't terastalize your arboliva.
@@akilcharles3473 Fair. Personally I like Bitter Blade as a move, and clear amulet + fire typing makes Ceruledge immune to all attack drops. It tends to catch people off-guard, and with bulk investment and a good support next to it, it can be really hard to remove while doing consistent damage.
@@burnellll which nature did you run on your ceruledge if you don't mind me asking? I have one and made it adamant but I'm still lost on what kind of move pool i should give it. Plus it has weak armor. Any tips?
@@GothamThotSlayer its better to have Flash Fire and since it is on the mid-fast tier, you should do Jolly, to atleast outpseed the strong mons there (namely ttar, kingambit, etc.) For the moveset, run Bitter Blade, Close Combat (for dark and rock types), Protect and Shadow Claw I guess, or a priority move like shadow sneak if you want.
@@GothamThotSlayer I'm running adamant with flash fire. I recommend running mostly bulk, but some speed investment is good. I calc'ed it to survive a few important things like timid fluttermane's shadow ball, although that specifically isn't relevant anymore in this format
In my personal opinion, Cyclizar belongs on here, at least as an honorable mention. Fast, relatively strong, great ability coupled with it's signature move shed tail, and is a rapid spin user. The only real downside is an ok typing with 3 weaknesses and 2 types it's stabs can't hit, but it also has an immunity, and mid defenses if I remember the stats properly.
I became a singles player due to game balance reasons but even though these videos aren’t really relevant to me anymore I still come back, we love you wolfey 🙏
I knew Tinkaton was gonna be on the list, but I kind of wondered about Meowscarada, with its extremely high speed and attack stats, as well as the (now infamous) Flower Trick.
It's typing is polarizing. On one hand it's immune to prankster and pollen moved but on the other hand it's got basically a ton of weaknesses on top of low defensive stats. It's like a more powerful, even frailer Greninja
Bisharp has always had access to sucker punch as an egg move. I know because that's how I used mine in UM (i skipped swsh). Swords dance, sucker punch, defiant, and built with maxed atk. Can tank a few hits or swap into something like sticky web and sweep. I'm sure with it's lower speed and higher bulk that Kingambit is fine, but also better for trick room. Gotta get myself a 0 speed IV one cause I always saw giving bisharp speed as a bad investment anyway.
Although not related to the video, eviolite primeape will be seeing some play for sure. Primarily because it also gets rage fist, and has a higher speed stat than annihilape with only I believe 10 less attack. And yeah yeah it's HP stat is low, the damage counter on Rage Fist does not get reset upon fainting. Pawmot and Rabsca's revival blessing does *NOT* reset the damage counter when annihalape and primeape get revived Meaning: Both Eviolite Primape and Annihilape both can be swapped in and tank as many hits as possible (or use Maushold's bullet seed in doubles) to knock them out. Upon being revived, they both have a 300 base stat attack. So we have a moderately bulky 95 base speed and 105 base attack, both respectable, with a spammable base 300 power move that hits the majority of pokemon for neutral damage. And we ALSO have a bulky base 90 speed and 115 attack pokemon to do the same thing Annihilape will be banned at some point. Or revival blessing will be banned. Regardless, if annihilape gets banned the you have primeape eviolite as a backup. Yeah annihilape can run choice scarf and just spam the move, which primeape cannot, but a 95 base speed stat is fast enough that with sticky web and/or string shot/icy wind will make primeape faster than the almost every single pokemon. Terrifying pokemon. Everyone flipped about Houndstone, but I said since day 1 that annihilape and eviolite primeape are a THREAT
One very big thing to note about cetitan is that it’s actually the fastest slush rush user we’ve ever seen! This Pokémon has tonnes of potential alongside belly drum, very excited to see how it plays
Wolfey, Another buff for Maushold is the King's Rock as using population bomb can also now have a chance to flinch. Some people have already tried this strat out and it has the potential to sweep teams
Honestly I’m not sure if this belongs on the list, but at least an honorable mention is Espathra. Espathra has two great abilities in opportunist and speed boost. Opportunist will copy the opponents boosted stats whenever they use a stat boosting move. This can also be paired with mirror herb to get those stats 2x. It also has access to stored power, which can make it the best stored power user in the game. Furthermore it gets dark type coverage in dazzling gleam and roost. Another amazing thing about it is the potential in speed boost with stored power. This is the first stored power user to get passive boosts after every turn. Plus, it also gets calm mind, and you can give it mirror herb to copy an opponent’s stat boost once to further add onto your stored power. They have a good Hp stat of 95, but pretty mid defenses, both being 60. However it’s special attack is 101 and their speed is 105. Overall, they’re very unique and can be very very good if used correctly.
Just want to recognize how awesome the editing is in this video! Combined with the already complete and super well explained information, this is an amazing video Wolfey!
Appreciate the list. I think another helpful video could be Top 10 Returning Pokemon since terastralizing can change how effective some of the older pokemon can be. Cheers!
I'm actually surprised I haven't seen more people talking about/using Espathra. Maybe I'm missing something, but it looks like it has a lot of potential. It can be a great special sweeper with base 105 speed + Speed Boost and Lumina Crash, but it can also be a decent support pokemon as well with Frisk and Ally Switch/Helping Hand. And even its signature ability, Opportunist, I feel has a lot of potential with how common Dondozo is, as well as set up moves in general like nasty plot Gholdengo, etc.
A bit surprised Pawmot isn’t here. Good typing, attack and speed with a great physical electric move and good coverage moves makes it a good physical sweeper. It also has 3 good abilities and revival blessing which seems busted
Here’s a little fun trivia for kowtow cleave. It comes from the same Japanese word (叩頭) which means a bow where your head touches the floor. In that respect it’s a fun name
“Kowtow” is actually from the Chinese word (the languages do share a lot of vocabulary, but pronunciation is different). The modern Japanese word for the same action is “dogeza” and indeed the attack name in Japanese is “dogezan” (a pun on “zan” which can mean “cut”).
Oh you’re using the older version of 头 btw, “kowtow” is taken specifically from the Hokkien dialect (with the mandarin pronunciation being “kòu tóu”), so it’s more appropriate to use 头 here
Hey Wolfey, Great video as always! I usually don’t write comments but I wanted to let you know that Tinkaton can also be used defensively due to its typing and its ability Mold Breaker, having mold breaker allows it to spread para on pokemon which ignore status such as gholdengo while also landing huge gigaton hammers. It is not the best set but I see it often in OU tier.
I really hope to see Scovillain make some numbers. Its stat spread is weird but if Sun ends up being good, especially with Protosynthesis mons, it'll be so fast and quite powerful
I think a very interesting strat for Palafin in doubles is leading it with Arboliva and using flip turn on your Arboliva since it does practically no damage and sets up both grassy terrain and your palafin hero mode
Cetitan and Baxcalibur are two extremely good Pokemon despite having the Ice-type. Ice has always been my favorite type so I'm always happy to see it get buffs. Loved when you did that getting #1 with Glaceon video because Glaceon is my favorite Pokemon, and this generation has been very kind to Ice-types by, ironically, allowing them to get rid of their type, but also not take chip damage from their own weather when their type is switched.
As I write this comment this is currently trending at #3. I’m so proud how far WolfeyVGC has came in his RUclips journey. Keep up the great work wolfy!
I think Squakabilly (Blue/green) is being slept on. The Blue and Green varieties get the ability intimidate. Tailwind set up, it has the egg move parting shot, access to foul play and brave bird to take care of Annihilape and others. Great switch in against ground/ghost type. Id love to hear Wolfe's opinion
I feel as though Garganacl deserves a slot over Arboliva (even though i think that Arboliva is underrated). I think that this is because having a iron defense body press mon is already a massive benefit, it has a ton of natural bulk, benefits a lot from tera with tera ghost and tera grass, gets a bonus resist to ghost thanks to its ability purifying salt, as well as being immune to status conditions which is a massive benefit for any iron defense mon, and its signature move salt cure is a massively helpful pressure tool in a lot of scenarios against ghost, steel and water type mons which normally would be a counter to it. Also believe maushold deserves its spot on the list. Still a great video thank you Wolfey! :)
I didn't think Toedscruel was gonna get a placing but I'm surprised it didn't get a nomination A specially-bulky ground type with the ability to apply status regardless of ability; it was basically made to counter Gholdengo, and also does a great job countering a lot of Magic Bounce pokemon since most of them are special attackers. I don't know about you but a spore user whose status move can't be stopped sounds pretty strong to me.
Thought there would also be a mention of Armarouge and Ceruledge having Weak Armor as an ability. I've already seen Armarouge in particular get its sharp boost in speed and start deleting mons before they can act with Armor Cannon and Expanding Force while in Psychic Terrain. I've also seen people trigger it alongside a Weakness Policy by targeting it with stuff like their ally Pokemon's Aqua Jet.
Glad that Armorouge's in the Top Ten, as it's the whole reason why I want to get Scarlet over Violet. Also, the Pokemon embodiment of Totsugeki being number 1's kinda funny, considering the horror stories some Guilty Gear players went through against that move (not a Guilty Gear guy, but I am a fighting game guy). The Totsugeki seems to transcend though multiple genres of gaming lol.
One thing worth mentioning with Arboliva is how it has Terrain Pulse, one of the only users in SV I believe. Combined with Strength Sap, it’s low speed and it’s Seed sower ability and it’s able to cripple an attacker and get a strong 100 base grass type move in one turn.
I'm surprised Wolfey didn't add his "Minecraft Donkey Kong" Garganacl to the list, considering how difficult it is to put down and its annoyingly good signature move.
Wolfey: Sucker Punch is an amazing way to get around Kingambit's awful speed stat. Farigiraf with Armor Tail and Low Kick/Double Kick: Ah, I see you have chosen DEATH!
Palafin is nice, flip turn into glimmora, set up stealth rocks and hopefully toxic spikes, either toxic stall until you die or switch out and go from there, fun stuff
Love the content... I think a livestream on the new mons with potential uses in competitive will broaden the scope even more... I started using banded meowscarada with overgrow just to kick the power of flower trick to 12
I think Arboliva has a really good move in terrain pulse, 100 base grass type is worth not being able to click it right away. Since it's slower you usually still can, since opposing pokemon will set up the grassy terrain for you
@@princess_sarina_aria_elysia That's fair, I haven't used it much since I like the fact that base 100 + grassy terrain boost + stab can delete a lot of things, makes it really good on trick room. But giga drain with assault vest could be really fun.
I've got 3 of these on my Violet playthrough team: Tinkaton (named Menace) running Gigaton Hammer, Bulldoze, Rock Smash and Play Rough, Ceruledge (named Warrior) running Bitter Blade, Brick Break, Psycho Cut and Phantom Force and Baxcaliber (named Saphira) running Glaive Rush, Ice Shard, Bite and Aerial Ace (I haven't found the Crunch TM yet but will be teaching it that when I can). I also had a Palafin at one point (named Flipper) running Focus Punch, Flip Turn, Astonish and Acrobatics
I would personally bump up Gholdengo at least 2 slots just because of how absurdly broken its ability and signature move is. Not being able to cripple it in any shape or form from status moves is frankly game breaking. Pair it up with an Indeedee or a prankster user and you have an absolute monster on your hand. Other than that, great video as per usual! You're killing it!

And even before Terrain is set, Arboliva still gets stab from Terrain Pulse, which could provide some niche use.
So basically Dragon Dance + Defog
These mice are gonna fucking kick your ass
Honestly not so sure about Tidy Up, at least in Doubles. Hazards are way less prevalent (a lot less switching means that punishing switches is less good), and the preferred Normal type defensive option is Protect, due to its greater versatility. That said, absurd in Singles.
Two things:
One is that this move will not fail even if there are no entry hazards on the field, so it's essentially a Dragon Dance but always with extra benefits
Two is that you should NEVER use this move if you got Maushold into the field via Shed Tail, as using this move clears your own substitute as well
I make $ 25,450 weekly trading profit with her, I only trust Mrs. Allison Parker with my investments. Am now able to send my kids to great schools in LA, all thanks to Mrs. Allison Parker..
There's one feature of Rage fist that wasn't mention and it's that the increase in base power of the move doesn't reset when annihilape switches out. Kingambit’s slow speed is also probably due to the whole line being based on chess, and the King is the “slowest” piece in chess, since you’ll rarely be trying to move it.
I was today years old when I realized Bisharp was a pun on Bishop
That's exactly what I thought when I first realized what his stats were. I also thought that one day we could get a counterpart line of chess pieces as well that weren't used like Knight, Rook and Queen. The Queen counterpart of Kingambit would be very fast and less bulky compared to Kingambit since in chess you are protecting the King hence Kingambit's high defense and the Queen would be less bulky and way faster since it is the best and most mobile piece on the board. I seriously want a convergent evolution concept of this like they did with Wiglett and Toedscool or maybe just a brand new line as counterparts.
@@WhatsUrName0o7 At least tell me you knew about the Pawn pun in Pawniard's name.

Aside from

Hehehe peeled duraludon
I just hate that he pronounced glaive wrong
It's possibly the worst design of the region
I think Garganacl deserves a spot, or an honorable mention at least. It's impossible to kill quickly, has pretty good offensive stats, and ALSO has the sIgnAtuRe aTacK salt cure, which keeps doing damage even after you switch out. It's low speed is low enough for trick room, and on top of salt cure, they decided to let it have iron defense AND body press. This Minecraft golem is very strong and even stronger in trick room, definitely a fitting strength for the saltyest pokemon ever.
Cant expres how much i hate that thing
this. garganacl literally counters the mons that counters it. corviknight dies to salt cure, any fighting type gets walled by +6 def and tera fairy. it also has really decent special bulk so it can tank special hits and hit them with boosted body press.
Another note about Kingambit: In single battles, it can get up to a 50% Attack boost if the rest of the team has fainted, meaning you effectively have a Choice Band without the move restriction

yeah in competitive right now pretty much every team either needs trick room or a way to stop trick room, i played in a big tournament last weekend and trick room is already proving to be a huge part of the meta from what i saw (i brought a tailwind/trick room balance team and faced a lot of trick room). torkoal is great and it’s basically the slowest thing in the game, apart from some irrelevant not fully evolved mons, and armarouge is a great trick room setter that sees a ton of play, with and without indeedee. at first i really expect armarouge to be a very two dimensional mon that just clicked expanding force but it has so many different sets and many ways to use it, which is a nice surprise as someone who really liked it from when they revealed it a while ago.

@@challengerprod not too sure about that..I've been using farigiraf with great success. And oronguru has always been a great trick room mon. Honorable mention for hatterene as well.

One of the things to mention regarding Goldengho's ability that does bring it down to earth slightly is that it also cannot be affected by your teammate's positive status moves, either. For example, you cannot use Heal Pulse or Helping Hand on it.

I feel the snow to hail buff will greatly help ice types in general. For along time ice has been the 'glass cannon' type with great offensive interactions but too many weaknesses. The defence buff from snow might help ice types live a little longer and make use of their offensive intersections. Another thing for Cetitan, snow gives it (and all ice types) a 1.5 defense boost, so that helps with bulk.

In my playthrough I would lead Palafin in important battles, Flip Turn out to Kilowattrel, and then use Tailwind. Kilowattrel has an ability that boosts the power of its electric type moves when its hit by a wind attack, and its own Tailwind activates this. Quauqaval isn't nearly as good as Skeledirge or Meowscarada, but i agree they should've been mentioned.

Tinkatun can learn swords dance take what you can from that what you will
Also Bisharp now gets eviolite
Pawmot and Rabsca's revival blessing does *NOT* reset the damage counter when annihalape and primeape get revived
Meaning: Both Eviolite Primape and Annihilape both can be swapped in and tank as many hits as possible (or use Maushold's bullet seed in doubles) to knock them out. Upon being revived, they both have a 300 base stat attack. So we have a moderately bulky 95 base speed and 105 base attack, both respectable, with a spammable base 300 power move that hits the majority of pokemon for neutral damage. And we ALSO have a bulky base 90 speed and 115 attack pokemon to do the same thing
Annihilape will be banned at some point.
Kings rock is for support cause you will nearly never hit all 10 times, wide lens give you an over 90% chance go hit all 10 times in a row

Hi wolf i can’t wait to see some strategies using the new mechanics and pokemon
I love Tinkaton
but the real Horror of Paldea is Flamigo
Just imagine the potential of Tinkaton if it was given the metagross treatment being a 2nd pseudo of a gen
@@rrr-mi9kv I see :0
I didn’t realize that. Thanks for the info mate.
Oh you’re using the older version of 头 btw, “kowtow” is taken specifically from the Hokkien dialect (with the mandarin pronunciation being “kòu tóu”), so it’s more appropriate to use 头 here
now the animation makes a lot more sense lol
They introduced some amazing pokemon for the competive scene! It's nice to see.
Goldengho is even MORE crazy in singles because it blocks both defog and rapid spin, making it the single best option for protecting your hazards.
I think Flamigo deserves a nice honorable mention 👍
The only thing bad about it is its uncreative name
I really hope to see Scovillain make some numbers. Its stat spread is weird but if Sun ends up being good, especially with Protosynthesis mons, it'll be so fast and quite powerful
I might have made an honorable mention to pawmot. That revival ability is frightening powerful
I feel like Houndstone deserved a spot. Even though it has poor stats, it has an amazing signature move.
choice scarf last respects go brrr (its technically worse than Annihilape's rage fist is why it prob didnt make it)
I think that this is ok
Maushold---wide lens---friend guard
Population boom
Annihilape---aguav berry---Tera steel
Rage fist
Wolfey on trending? That sounds like the world champ difference babyyyyyyyyy
Really enjoying the blend of voice over and to camera, great job!
Pawmot should be there, good ability, decent stats, revival blessing, fake out, plus other very viable moves
I didn't think Toedscruel was gonna get a placing but I'm surprised it didn't get a nomination
A specially-bulky ground type with the ability to apply status regardless of ability; it was basically made to counter Gholdengo, and also does a great job countering a lot of Magic Bounce pokemon since most of them are special attackers.
1:52 Wolfey saying *POGGERS* is something that needs to be immortalised
Palafin is nice, flip turn into glimmora, set up stealth rocks and hopefully toxic spikes, either toxic stall until you die or switch out and go from there, fun stuff
Love the content... I think a livestream on the new mons with potential uses in competitive will broaden the scope even more...
I started using banded meowscarada with overgrow just to kick the power of flower trick to 12
I think Arboliva has a really good move in terrain pulse, 100 base grass type is worth not being able to click it right away. Since it's slower you usually still can, since opposing pokemon will set up the grassy terrain for you
I feel like giga drain is the best grass move for it since it aids with its bulk
