I never wkukd have guessed the lovely veneer hidden under that road construction orange color. Excellent job restoring this piece David! Very thoughtful adding the shelf bracket!
Hi David, this piece of furniture was just as ugly as Jay's, you did an amazing job on it. I wish people would stop ruining beautiful old furniture. You have restored it back to it's original glory, thank you for that....Take care....cheers !!! 🍁 🍁
Even though you find it distasteful to paint it,the most important thing is to do what you love in your home so there are no rules! David has a skill to change it back to its former glory❤
I think these pieces get wrecked before they come back into fashion. I remember the second-hand shops being full of MCM for peanuts. Students bought them for flats and painted them.
The work you do goes beyond restoration, and how to bring to life something that has been forgotten in time. Congratulations on the beautiful work and keep it up. A hug straight from Brazil
You are not only brilliant, but a tough act to follow! I have learned so much from you. I have a floor model radio from the 40's that belonged to my grandmother that I would to have the talent to restore. I also have a cedar lined wardrobe and a vanity, with the original mirror attached, that belonged to my great grandmother's sister. She purchased them when she got married in the 1910's and then gave it to my mother when she got married in 1952. Those pieces frighten me the most. I really can't afford a pro, but...I'm gaining knowledge and courage from watching you. I also have a buffet and server which my mom bought circ 1966. I think they may be impossible to do well. All the best to you. Your work is truly appreciated!
Wow, that’s a lovely thing to say thank you. It sounds like you have a great stash of beautiful furniture and you can definitely transform them. The art is really to just take your time, use the right tools and materials for the job and enjoy it. Good luck in your restoration journey and thanks again for your kind words 😀😀
I love your cheeky sense of humor; your face tells the whole story! The cow hides 🐄 w/ bright tangerine was irresistible! TY for a beautiful restoration.
Hi David, does your wife know that you are using her fancy Christmas dinner tablecloth as a drop cloth? 😊 Once again you have found the hidden swan behind The ugly duckling. I hope Daisy gets better. She's such a sweet pup.
That went from “ we’ll put it in the shed to store tools” to “ don’t you DARE put a coffee cup down on that” quickly…. I never used to like 1930-1970 furniture, but after watching all these restoration and refinishing craftspeople and seeing what they do with the furniture - it’s changed my view. They literally take sows ears and produce silk purses. Most of the furniture was quite well made and pleasantly plain. Perhaps because I grew up with it I don’t like it! I love 18thC furniture, but do not have an income that supports it. 😢watching these videos has given me hope that I can still get decent furniture that I can repurpose. I’ve only managed a tiny 1930 coffee table so far, but there’s hope!
Stunning 😍 I will never understand why people paint beautiful pieces of antique furniture believing they are modernizing them, but thank you for restoring this piece to its former beauty!!
In general I do not like this style, but this is beautiful. Looks almost modern. It still looks orange, but goes well with your floor. Have you ever used household bleach? Also any stain that says "ash" will tone down the orange. I will sometimes tint my first topcoat with the opposite of orange which is blue. TINT as in very faintly. This does wonders and not detectable.
BEAUTIFUL work. Unusual piece. I liked the silver, but paint on hardware, to me looks fake AF, and looks like... well, paint. Besides, some of the hardware could have been some other metal. May I suggest that really cheap fake gold leaf? This at first looks very shiny, but if you wait before covering the with the no tarnish varnish, it does look close to brass. Or you could expose it to ammonia, and that will age it fast, as in within minutes. Also, if a magnet won't stick to the hardware, it probably is solid brass. The gold leaf is hard to do at first, but you will get good at it, fast. It goes from a shine to a sheen. Thanks and subscribed and liked. You don't sound like London, maybe Wales?
Such a stunning transformation, David! That was quite a bit of orange to get rid of, and sure enough, there was a beauty underneath. The gold hardware was spot on; chrome would have not only been wrong time period, but just plain tacky. Sending big snuggles for Daisy and her sore foot. I'm glad she got a trip to the doggie-doctor and hope she'll be doing her wiggles and dances the next time we see her. Thank you for a real knock-out piece of furniture. It's going to be quite an asset for its new home. Cheers from Oklahoma!!!
I wonder if the person or persons who butchered this beauty will ever watch this and squirm in embarrassment!!😂!! Not my style but beautifully restored.
Hello. I love how you divide up the tasks with the labelled chapters. It was nice seeing you live this afternoon with Jay. The cabinet turned out beautifully.
My grandfather was a cabinet maker. I appreciate your attention to detail in the repairs and restoration of the finish. I was never a fan of MCM, but have come to appreciate the simplicity of the designs in the way they can show off the grain of the wood used.
Great job David. I love how meticulous you are in your methods and process. Restoration was spot on, detailed and very thorough. Enjoyed every bit of the video. Being an IT person I know how much effort goes in making these videos and content. Well done to all the people who have taken part in the challenge.. ❤
Thanks so much for your appreciation of my work and also the work that goes into creating these videos. I’m certainly not from IT 😂 but I do my best with the limited editing skills I have 😀👍👍
Looks great as a sideboard - it would make a room lighter and look bigger too with that mirror. Great job making that piece go from kitschy to sophisticated! Bravo for the added support post on top, nobody would ever know it wasn't originally there.
Crikey! That was a right Carnaby Street Nightmare! Thanks so much for restoring it. I'm looking forward to what the other's are doing. Love these challenges😃
This is simply amazing!! I bet the kid who had the "before" version in their bedroom had horrible nightmares...LOL I want Jays piece and this one too!!! Gorgeous!
Oh wow! I don’t remember your name, but that’s a beautiful piece of furniture! As it stands so far, you & Jay are in a dead heat 😊 11 more videos to watch 😮
Beautiful restoration David! I had a good chuckle at you peeling off the cow print paper. It was like déjà vu 😂. If for some reason it doesn’t fit in your shop, feel free to send it my way.
Under that garish orange paint and cowhide paper was a beautiful sideboard. Surprisingly, it was in pretty good shape on the inside of the drawers and the body of it. I love the color stain you choice, and, I love that you choice Gilboy's hard wax oil. Your methodical meticulousness really is a comforting pleasure to watch.
The wood grain came out beautifully. I don't understand why it was painted in the first place, unless it was used in a child's room. Fabulous job David 😍
Absolutely amazing!! I am not a fan of MCM because of the structural lines but I appreciate the beauty of wood. Again, amazing!! Always appreciate the hard work you put into every piece that you restore.
Thanks Marilyn. I'm also not a fan of MCM for exactly the same reasons but i thought it would be fun to be part of this challenge. Thanks for your support as always 😃❤️
Wow! I was sure that orange paint and paper was covering a total disaster of a piece but what a surprise! The piece is gorgeous and I’m sure it’s some sort of optical illusion but it even looks larger all finished. As usual, another amazing transformation.
Night and day. The before is hideous and with your talen and expertise, the after is simply gorgeous. I really like that you add the extra support so that the mirror is an option, not a support necessity.
As usual your meticulous attention to detail shines through in this now lovely piece of furniture. I hope that the pieces are judged on the restoration details as well as the final look. No bodge jobs a Mayfield ever!
Someone certainly had fun going at it with a paintbrush! I suspect that this piece was in a little boy’s nursery. You did a fantastic job restoring it!
Just have to say I've watched all the videos in the MCM challenge and in my humble opinion yours and Jay's were possibly the two that shone out the most
WOW, gorgeous grain pattern on the top... so worth saving. A few of the many reasons I follow your channel is the quality of multi-angled & close-up videography, lighting & editing, your easy-to-understand instructions and the excellent quality of your workmanship... & Daisy (of course🥰) This did not disappoint. Cheers, David. 👍👍 (I'm off to view the rest 🥳) Pat/Yukon
This is your best piece so far. GORGEOUS RESTORATION! I totally agree with you... the participants in this challenge are the best in furniture restoration! Thanks so much for sharing
Thanks, I know somebody would have loved it before. I actually like people doing things to their furniture, its always nice to see somebody being creative 😃👍
You did really well with this piece, I like the extra support so the piece is multi functional, sorry to hear Daisy is poorly. Hope she feels better soon.😊Natalie
Being in Sydney, Australia Dave at present visiting my Son and his family. At present it is 40 degrees outside so I thought how to COOL off to come in and watch this cool video you have done Mate which is a great job as usual and hope Daisy's foot soon gets better soon, have a great day all !!!. Brian usually in the UK LOL Mate take care.😀😀🤠.
Hi Brian. Sounds great being in the sunshine, it’s not stopped raining here. Glad you enjoyed the video and hope to see you again in the next one. 😀👍👍🐶
Hi Molly, no need to judge your favourite it was just for fun and we all hoped it would be something new for you all. I’ve watched them all and loved every one 😀👍❤️
I don’t know what the person was thinking when they painted that dresser, but you have brought it back to its natural glory. Thank you.
😀❤️👍
They were thinking:
“ I’m a cool artist with cool eclectic tastes. I can colour block with confidence “
Nope
They were thinking:

David, thanks for the beautiful restoration! That tangerine monster was frightening. 💕
Thanks Carla 😂❤️
Absolutely beautiful job. I am so sad that Transcend Furniture Design is not in this competition. Her work is absolutely stunning.
Thank you so much! I agree with you but unfortunately Angie had other commitments at the time but i'm sure she'll be part of the next one 😃👍
I never wkukd have guessed the lovely veneer hidden under that road construction orange color. Excellent job restoring this piece David! Very thoughtful adding the shelf bracket!
Hi Emily, I was very lucky to find that underneath. Watched yours this morning and you did an amazing job 😀👍
Hi David, this piece of furniture was just as ugly as Jay's, you did an amazing job on it. I wish people would stop ruining beautiful old furniture. You have restored it back to it's original glory, thank you for that....Take care....cheers !!! 🍁 🍁
So pleased you liked the end result 😀😀

I think these pieces get wrecked before they come back into fashion. I remember the second-hand shops being full of MCM for peanuts. Students bought them for flats and painted them.
People are allowed to do with their furniture as they want. If it offends you, the offer to buy it from them and restore it.
Loved the final result
Beautiful! And I absolutely adore the “Daisy Intermissions”!! ❤
Daisy Waisy Woo!!!
🐶❤️
Thanks so much, Daisy loves her starring roles 😂😂🐶❤️
The work you do goes beyond restoration, and how to bring to life something that has been forgotten in time. Congratulations on the beautiful work and keep it up. A hug straight from Brazil
😀❤️❤️
Astounding rescue! Can't decide if your's or Jay's was uglier, but both have been saved from furniture Hell by two amazing restorers. Well done!
Glad you enjoyed Bob 😃👍👍

This turned out magnificent...just the way it was originally intended to be. Beautiful, beautiful job, David.
Thanks Nancy 😀😀
Amaizing. Now, a beautiful dresser, fit for any home.
Thank you! 😊
Yippee for poor surface prep before painting!😂
I was very lucky they did a bad job of painting it 😂😂😂
Just a beautiful restoration, back to the original condition…..only better!
Thanks so much 😀
I love your cheeky sense of humor; your face tells the whole story! The cow hides 🐄 w/ bright tangerine was irresistible! TY for a beautiful restoration.
hahahaha I have a rubbish Poker face. Thanks so much for your support 😃❤️
I came here as recommended by your friend at Flipping Drawers, and very glad I did. Lovely work.
Thank you so much and welcome to my channel 😀
Turned out great. Love the reveal photos with all the up close details, but please give us more views of the piece as a whole, too. Thanks!
😀👍
Hi David, does your wife know that you are using her fancy Christmas dinner tablecloth as a drop cloth? 😊 Once again you have found the hidden swan behind The ugly duckling. I hope Daisy gets better. She's such a sweet pup.
Shhhh dont tell her 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Thanks very much Maeve, Daisy is feeling a lot better thanks although her sore foot has taken some time to sort out 😃🐶❤️

😀❤️
Love the transformation!
Thanks 😀😀
Brave and bold choice. What’s up with people with cows and bricks? Job well done. Congratulations
Not my style but I guess somebody loved it once 😂😂😂
Bricks, lol. That was awful too. 😂
In general I do not like this style, but this is beautiful. Looks almost modern. It still looks orange, but goes well with your floor. Have you ever used household bleach? Thank you and thanks for the tips on colouring 👍👍😀😀
It was no furniture, it was a box on stilts. You transformed it back to furniture again! Great work! ❤
Thanks ❤️

You don't sound like London, maybe Wales?
Thanks for the tips. I’m from Manchester 😀👍
Unbelievable! I love that you put the mirror back on for the original look.
😃❤️
This was so beautiful, I had to subscribe! Amazing!!!
Thanks and welcome to my channel 😀❤️

Reminds me of the purple flower challenge flipping draws gave you. Looking forward to the results of the challenge
I wonder if the person or persons who butchered this beauty will ever watch this and squirm in embarrassment!!😂!!
Not my style but beautifully restored.
Thanks 😀👍
Wow! That was a HUGE transformation! Fabulous job.
Thanks so much! 😊
This piece must have come from Fred Flintstone's house!
😂😂❤️👍
The previous owner would be SHOCKED! Fantastic work.
Thats very kind, thanks 😃👍
''Tangerine dream''...? No... it was a Dalmatian abomination! And... painting wood should be a crime!!
🤣👍
Another fantastic restoration David. The wood grain is gorgeous on this dresser. I cannot imagine anyone painting it orange. Now it’s beautiful again.
Thanks so much Sibylle 😀❤️
Great lesson on how to convert Early Duct Tape to Mid Century Modern! Nice restoration; looking forward to your other projects.
😂"Early Duct Tape..." too funny
When in doubt.....get the Duct Tape out!! 🤣🤣👍
And someone took the time and effort to paint it! Thank goodness you saved it!
Great job David! I enjoyed doing this challenge with you all! 🎉

😀👍
Wow, you transformed that into a stunning piece of furniture David. Love your attention to detail, you did a brilliant job!

Friggin phenomenal save, buddy! Wow!
Thanks so much Angie. That woodgrain was a great bonus 😀😀
My grandfather was a cabinet maker. I appreciate your attention to detail in the repairs and restoration of the finish.
I was never a fan of MCM, but have come to appreciate the simplicity of the designs in the way they can show off the grain of the wood used.

You definitely saved that piece from the trash and made it look spectacular!
Wow, thank you!😀
Made a sow’s ear into a silk purse. 👏👏👏 It’s beautiful.
Thats very kind, thanks 😃😃

11 more videos to watch 😮
Thanks so much Im glad you enjoyed it. I’m David 😀😀
Beautiful restoration David!
I had a good chuckle at you peeling off the cow print paper. It was like déjà vu 😂. If for some reason it doesn’t fit in your shop, feel free to send it my way.
Hi Melanie. It was quite similar to your original “design” but yours was definitely worse 😂😂 You did an outstanding job on yours 😀👍👍
Something that was fit for fire wood, transformed into a beautiful chic dressing table, marvellous work.
Thanks so much 😀😀
You would never have any idea of it’s sordid past with the way it looks now - that’s excellent work! ✨
Thank you so much!😃
One of my favorites. Watched for the second time. 😍👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks so much Jodi, keep watching 🤣❤️❤️
You did a beautiful job on this one! I hope Daisy feels back to her old self soon.
Thanks so much, Daisy is feeling much better thanks 😀🐶👍
You have the patience of a saint. I love your attention to detail and your ability to make a silk purse out of a sows ear.😂😂😂
My wife might disagree with that 🤣 but thanks very much, glad you enjoyed it 😃😃
Beautiful!. Whoever thought the orange-yellow paint and cruddy mac-tac on the drawers was colour blind, and tasteless. The result is amazing.
Thank you! 😊
Absolutely brilliant Mr. Clooney! 😎🥃
hahahahaha thanks Matt 👍👍👍👍
Hard to believe this is the same piece it’s turned out great 👍🇬🇧❤️😁
Thanks so much 😊
Looks brilliant. Exactly how I remember the identical, piece my sister had given her when she got married in 1971
Glad you liked it 😀😀
Was wondering in what decade this dresser was produced was thinking late 50s way off 🙃 Thank you for the info
That's cool you all participate in this challenge. The piece looks fabulous!
It was good fun doing the challenge 😀😀
Es ist ein sehr schönes Möbelstück geworden. Ich würde es ohne mit der Wimper zu zucken kaufen.
I wish I shipped to Italy 😀❤️
Under that garish orange paint and cowhide paper was a beautiful sideboard. Surprisingly, it was in pretty good shape on the inside of the drawers and the body of it. I love the color stain you choice, and, I love that you choice Gilboy's hard wax oil. Your methodical meticulousness really is a comforting pleasure to watch.
What a great comment, thanks so much for your continued support ❤️
The wood grain came out beautifully. I don't understand why it was painted in the first place, unless it was used in a child's room. Fabulous job David 😍
Thanks Dee 😀❤️
I was extremely lucky the wood was in good shape under that paint 😀👍👍
Oh poor little princess Daisy ❤. I bet she gets all the cork stoppers to feel better😂
She’s being spoiled rotten and is feeling much better now. Thanks 😀🐶❤️
Love Daisy. She’s the best part.
🐶❤️
Night and day. The before is hideous and with your talen and expertise, the after is simply gorgeous. I really like that you add the extra support so that the mirror is an option, not a support necessity.
That’s really kind, thank you 😀❤️
Fantastic job!
Thanks Steven, loved what you did to your massive table and chairs. Epic job 😀👍
What a smashing result! I love watching you and Daisy, don't care if the video is long. That was an amazing result!
Thanks so much 😊❤️🐶
I love this piece so much especially with the mirror. You turned it from an orange nightmare to a beautiful piece of mid century modern design again ❤
Thank you so much!❤️
Beautiful! I hope this piece finds it's forever home and is taken care of
It sure deserves it. Great job 👏
I hope so too! 😀👍
Hi David, you did a great job, good luck with the mcm challenge🤞
Hi Luca, thanks so much. I really enjoyed your video, I’ve done Tambour doors before and they are pretty tricky. Great job using your HUGE laser😀😀👍
I do believe this gorgeous piece shook from head to tail when you freed it from its tangerine cow prison 😊❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤
😀❤️
As usual your meticulous attention to detail shines through in this now lovely piece of furniture. I hope that the pieces are judged on the restoration details as well as the final look. No bodge jobs a Mayfield ever!

Thanks, I know somebody would have loved it before. I actually like people doing things to their furniture, its always nice to see somebody being creative 😃👍
Cannot believe this is the same piece. It is beautiful.

Hi Natalie, thanks very much. Daisy is feeling much better thanks 😃🐶❤️

It was rather bright 😂😂
