I was screaming "No don't cut out the seat"! I cannot believe you two wove a new seat! It looks beyond amazing. I absolutely love it, and if it stands the test of a baby, you know it will hold up. Great job!
Great job!! Your lovely wife is a good sport and a dedicated partner to spend 4 hours weaving on your anniversary!! I can't help but think that pajamas and wine helped seal the deal!!
Being born in 1950, I saw a lot of telephone tables in peoples homes. Typically, they were in the front hall and receiving a call was an EVENT! It wasn't until much later (1960's) that phones were hung on a wall or the princess phones appeared in bedrooms. Anyway, they became useful as plant stands and as a place to sit and put on shoes etc. Your renovation is beautifully done and I love how the dark espresso stain masks the water mark. Well done! 👌💖
Thank you very much! I am sure it feel like just yesterday you were attending an "event" in the front hall, it is crazy to see how things have evolved. I do miss fighting with my sister to answer the phone as a child. Thank you for tuning in :)
These were in every home with a rotary-dial telephone. All black, all heavy, and all taking a place of honor in the home on their telephone stand. The ones with accompanying seats - such as this one - were especially nice. A beautiful restoration! NOTE: Your inspection officer is just too cute for words!!
I still have 4 videos to go, but this is my favorite so far, because you took on weaving that seat having never done it before. Your wife is a great sport for agreeing to do this on your anniversary, and you both did a wonderful job!
Man I have seen a bench like this in a really long time. Looks gorgeous. Love that even though landline phones are as common as they used to be, this furniture can still be used for either a food tray, laptop, or something thing to lay your arm on while scrolling through your new age phone 😂
My grandparents used to have two foot stools with this weave. Can’t believe it is your first time weaving 😮Great job on restoring this piece of history.❤
Когда начали срезать верёвки - я посчитала, что его восстановить невозможно. Но вы справились и даже достаточно остроумно спрятали большое и некрасивое пятно. Прекрасная работа!
This turned out so good I really love the contrast between the darker wood and the light colored weaving! Kudos for getting the whole family involved too ❤
The dark stain was a wonderful choice. This is quite a transformation. Your wife is such a blessing! I found you through the challenge. Thank you for taking part in this challenge.
Nicely done! I've never seen an assembly system like this before - bolts and tongue-shaped nuts - almost as if this was flat-packed like Ikea does today. Nonetheless, an admirable restoration.
Hello Cole 😊 I watched your video with great pleasure. I also loved the restoration piece ❤️ And especially the knitting part of the video and your family are very beautiful. Your son is so cute 😊 Great work 👏👏👏
Into my fifth video in the challenge series..I just loved your phone bench and the weaving with dark stains really did take it to the next level. Your beautiful wife having a go on your special day made it one of my favourites so far.
Love this little, time-consuming project I admire your patience re-weaving the seat... it looks perfect! Nostalgic! In my day every ho.e had a special place for phone conversations. The next caretaker should be warned: No plants!
I've done about a dozen woven chairs using this seagrass and have found that if you soak the grass in water before weaving, the seat retains it's firmness better over time. Your quality control inspector is better looking than any I've ever seen! Thanks for keeping this lovely piece out of the landfill!
Good job, knew you could do the seat, they are easy enough, just time consuming. Nice to have someone to help you out though, that helps! Looks like new.
I found you through the MCM challenge. Thank you so much for taking part. The darker stain is a wonderful choice, and I like what you did to transform the shelf. This is quite a transformation! Give your wife and son a big hug. She’s definitely a blessing!
You owe your wife a major dinner out for helping you with the weaving which was spectacular BTW! Whole job was great. I'm impressed you even tackled this piece! And that baby is sooo cute!!!
I'm watching all these challenges and you're all so talented. Being introduced to a lot of new guys I've never seen before. Really glad whoever put this together did & hope there's more.
Your wife is a saint and your wee boy is adorable. Great job. Re-weaving was the hard, but correct, call. My grandparents had a similar bench and I loved it when I was little.
Sea grass - the most gorgeous aroma on Earth. Some 50+ years ago, my Mum gave me the job of restoring a little stool with fresh sea grass. The aroma is the most memorable part of it. I inherited the stool as part of my parents' estate and it's standing in front of me right now - still 100% usable. My restoration weave has lasted longer than the original.
I fell in love with this bench at first sight. I suppose under the shelf where the telephone would be placed would be the telephone directories. It was always a problem to have a nice cozy spot to have a chat at that time. Today, I can see this piece plus a cushion or two used to read, your current books close at hand - or maybe for writing notes on your day. Slpendid good work in restauration, loved it!!
Great job! I'm so glad you took the old weaving out because it gave you the opportunity to redo the wood properly! The reweave was time consuming but an absolute beauty when you completed it.
What a great job!!!! I absolutely love the style of that piece!!!! That weave makes the piece and is beyond my patience level, but you guys rocked it 🤗
That sea grass seat weaving was the best! You two did a great job. It is so attractive. And, it made for a very memorable anniversary date. Your finished project was a 360 degree turn around. The before was so ugly, and the after so beautiful. What a save on the horribly stained writing table. I hope you kept the piece.
Beautiful collaboration there with the seagrass weaving. A hint for removing stains on wood in the future: Oxalic acid, and for that matter bleach as well, works more efficiently if you lay the wood down, SATURATE it with the acid (or bleach) and then WRAP the wood in thick plastic (if you are able to), put a block on top of it all and let it sit for several days, allowing the acid or bleach to soak in and do it's work. Do not let it dry out.
I did 27 years in the Antiques restore business.. never be afraid to mix stain colors.. I would have done the stained shelf in an ebony stain, the slats and the front bar, the rest in that nice dark chocolate color.. loved the anniversary weaving.. lol..
Totally drooling over this seat. Absolutely stunning and bloody hard work, especially all the sanding and weaving the seat!! (Never again, eh?) thank you so much
The best so far your patience getting that seat re woven and perseverance getting that stain out of the little table were above and beyond 10 out of 10
Ver, very nice! I remember these from when I was young. I was born in 1948, and raised in the 50's in South Carolina. My mom loved mid century modern and we had lots of that type of furniture! This gets my woodworking glands salivating to make a 1950's telephone bench. Thank you so much!

Great job!! Your lovely wife is a good sport and a dedicated partner to spend 4 hours weaving on your anniversary!! I can't help but think that pajamas and wine helped seal the deal!!
Thank you very much, they certainly helped ;) We appreciate you tuning in!
Omg!!! The weaving. 😜
Your Son's approval was priceless. The piece looks fantastic.
😊 thank you, appreciate that

Ah, thanks for answering why it was fixed. Born in 1963 and the space was smaller

Thank you for saving this gem from the landfill. I sure didn’t see any hope for the old girl, but she will live a long life now. She’s beautiful!

I hadn't seen one like this either, quite unique! Thank you for watching :)
Beautiful! Fantastic restoration!
Thank you very much :)
The refinished bench is absolutely beautiful. The weave is excellent and the stain now looks like a pattern in the wood. Great work! 👍👍

VERY good incentive program with the wine! 😉

I think this is true love encompassed in a furniture restoration video. The fact you and your wife weaved this piece back into life is amazing/
Love this. Especially the clever masking of that awful stain.

That turned out quite nice! There was a jewel under that old paint.
Great job on the stain. Hid it nicely.
Wow! What a challenge. The weaving was amazing. You did a great job of concealing that nasty stain.
This looks absolutely incredible, like a very expansive designer piece.
wow, so impressed with yours and your wife's weaving! fabulous transformation.
