Colour Grading can take either a few minutes per clip, or a few hours per clip depending on how deep you want to go with it.
When I colour grade my Panasonic V-Log footage for my corporate work and for this RUclips channel, I like to keep things as simple and speedy as possible. A fast turnaround is something that is normally needed from me, so therefore I've come up with a V-Log grading workflow that is both easy and quick.
This method works in all video editing softwares, and will work with any Panasonic Lumix Camera that shoots V-Log!
Thanks for watching! - Кино
Just picked up an S5II a couple of days ago and wanted to see some V-LOG workflows, this was perfect timing. Incredibly helpful and your colors look amazing here. Thank you!
Thanks Matt! Hopefully this video helps you grasp the V-Log workflow quicker! :)
Many thanks for the insights.
Also, thanks for talking about 25% slower than normal. It is much easier to follow what you are saying 👍🙏. 🇦🇺
Hahaha! I’m trying, I talk very fast even in my day to day life, so I’m glad you said this 🤣
Those shots look stellar! Such a great video 🤩👏
Thanks guys! Appreciate it ✌🏻
Love it Josh! Super simple and clean! The inverse curves idea is pretty smart too
Thanks dude! Appreciate it ✌🏻
I had just purchased the gamut lut because you recommended it. Do you not use it anymore? Is this phantom one better?
Same I was wondering the same thing
Hopefully he gets back to us@@quintincooper3108
Both are fantastic conversion LUT’s for V-Log. I use both still, and ultimately you’ll get amazing results with each.
The phantom LUT pack simply has more variants , so you can pick and choose how you want your image to look right after the Rec709 conversion :)
@@JoshCameron thank you!
Cool to see the workflow here! Interesting that you don’t use scopes but mad respect for your final image. Love it. I’ll definitely be incorporating the final color wheel idea into my workflow.
Thanks dude! I love simplicity! Sometimes I’ll Chuck up the scopes if I’m doing a more intense grade, but for the most part I don’t need it to know whether my image looks good or not!
Nice to see such a legend grace the comment section btw 🤪
Any reason you don‘t use the S5 camera profile in Nitrate?
Thanks Josh, this content is super helpful. Full Retention. Cheers Sir
Thanks dude!
Dehancer vs Nitrate? Also are you using ETTR with V-Log. Thanks
Thank you man. Do you know if it makes a difference whether or not your custom LUT is on top or bottom of the adjustments?
It does! Putting your wheels and curves allows you to effect the highlights and shadows before the lut. Otherwise instead of changing the log information you will be trying to change the rec 709 conversion lut. It allows you to recover more details when it is done before the conversion
@@MatthewDangyou thank you! This whole time I thought it was a bottom up workflow so I had my LUT on top.
Hi Josh, great video, I only got the S5II and I use V-log I bought the garmut lut pack for V-log and I have it baked in I use lumafusion but the video footage looks a bit dull Is there anything I can do on lumafusion to enhance to make it better?
Have you tried manipulating the highlights , mid tones and shadows in Lumafusion? Bringing down the mid tones will always make your footage feel a bit more contrasty and complete :)
@@JoshCameron thanks Josh I’ll try that what editing software is better final co pro for iPad or LumaFusion
Thanks for the video, Josh: Out of curiosity, how much (if any) do you overexpose when shooting in V-LOG? Thanks in advance.
I would like to know as well.
Not Josh, but I've been shooting V-Log for quite some time. generally, recording internally I like to overexpose about a stop, using the default metering mode I like to get in the +1 to +1 and 1/3 ballpark, making sure I don't clip anything. Cleans up the shadow noise well and is easy to pull down in post.
Shooting BRAW on the S5iiX I generally ETTR, close to clipping unless I'm doing a lot of shot matching then I'll keep consistent exposure. Ends up being 2 stops over usually, but wouldn't recommend it outside of RAW.
In my experience, V-Log actually prefers to be slightly over exposed instead of under exposed.
So, I always tend to keep the exposure anywhere between +1 and +3 on the light meter. Just make sure you’re exposing for the subject and not anything else that could be throwing your exposure off :)
Hello, my lumix s5iix does not use autofocus when I use Prorest mode in FHD 60p, does the same happen to you? or is it a firmware error?
Let me check that for you!
Wait u created a monster I started doing the little red shift on the curves and now I can’t stop
Love it! Why didn't you include the second wheels in the effect?
Sometimes I don’t use it - it’s a case by case thing! If it’s an establishing shot and there’s no real point to draw people to in the frame, then I won’t use it :)
how about a video on how to shoot Vlog for s5ii
i want that Lumix Hoodie so bad
Yesssss that hoodie was fire
Obviously, this is a pre-made video from weeks ago. Why are you in CA? Why did you sign a NDA? Spit it out!😀 Maybe it doesn't concern a GH7, as you're more L Mount. I guess we'll know soon enough.
