What I like about the Nicest LUT is it decreases the exposure quite a bit so for monitoring it encourages exposing to the right and all other LUT work safer on it, but in general I think the Nicest LUT is just one of the best.
For fast turnaround, i just the Flat profile that ships in the camera. Then add a little bit of contrast and saturation in post. You go to ISO 100 as opposed to V-LOG or CineD. I'm finding the Flat profile has great results for 90% of situations. V-Log is good for high dynamic range scenes like a subject next to a window. As you know, with V-Log you can expose for the subject and still retain a lot of the outside and just clip the highlights a little outside. Whereas any other profile will just clip the highlights outside a lot.
Dear Caleb, just wanted to check if you use an external monitor when filming with the lumix s5 iix.. Whenever I filmed with a Ninja V for example I had this bad hdmi latency issue and couldn't use 4K25 through my cable... Did you recognize any huge delay? (even when turning off the hdmi audio)
I forgot when I switched to this, but it's probably been since the GH5... I never shoot V-Log on any Panasonic camera. I just use Cine-D. It's flat enough to grade, sometimes clients will take it as-is, other times, it only needs slight adjustments to contrast + saturation.
Great video! I am shooting everything with the standard colour profile in my lumix. I f**ked up once in log and did not dare to dial in to the log. I am going out now to shoot some content and let's dive in to it. Really helpful this, thnx! And btw, nice shoes!
Hi Caleb, is it possible to shoot on the internal SD, footage with the backed in Lut, and at the same time, record on the external monitor, a V-log flat image? I do not have a recorder monitor, so i cannot test this... Thank you sir :)
On the gh5 and the gh6 I have been using the natural profile a little bit tweaked for years I have tested extensively with vlog profile and in my opinion I did not see any benefit at all compared to a natural profile in many different scene scenarios.
nice! what is the difference to grade the vlog like you did and simply go in the left pane where the LUT library is is and there choose the panasonic lut or any other lut? Seems to work fine..
Serial before sounds a bit wrong, while if you adjust node on the right, and then on the left, it makes right node input different and adjustments will be not the same as before, so it's like a domino effect to all right side nodes. But in general very good, compress v-log dynamic range to a final look is very smart if don't wanna CC for something simple. Probably they should make it kind of default (full dynamic range compression) to any "standard" modes
I couldn't help but notice the Fuji Supreria Xtra 400 LUT on your camera. I used to shoot Fuji film 40 years ago on my Pentax SuperProgram and loved the colors. Where do I find LUTs that emulate Fuji film?
Been looking to pick up a s5ii or s5iix but have stumbled across several complaints about moire. Have you come across this and how have you tackled it?
how do you actually save your custom LUT from Davinci to upload to the camera and I'm assuming that you then push that LUT file to the camera SD card somewhere for the ability to load it into the LUT library? You never showed how to save the custom LUT (from Davinci) and where to put it on the camera to upload it to the internal camera LUT library.
Hello, I have a question please : can you tell me how much ISO (min and max) I have to put on my GH6 during the day and the night to have a good exposure when I'm shooting in V-Log - Thank you very much
You can just make a node tree template on davinci resolve that transforms ANY camera colour profile (as lomg as you know what it was shot in) and converts it into rec.709 with colour correctic/grading in the middle. [Transform from camera profile to editing space] - [colour correcting] - [colour grading] - [film look*] - [transform from editing space to rec.709]. Seems just as easy to me as recording a normal video, all you have to do is input your camera setting once
I have to try real time LUT feature. I'm going to Maldive for honeymoon next May. I really stressed what picture style to use. VLOG? is good but... I think I can't color correct and grade all the footages. Not even Maldive, I'm going to Singapore and Tokyo before Maldive.... Can you recommend what LUT to use? if you're going to Singapore, Tokyo and Maldive. Save me please :)
Привет, Калеб. Хотел узнать, что думаете лучше взять gh5 или zv-e10? автофокус понятно что лучше у сони, но мне кажется gh5 способен на гораздо большее
This video , based on my experience shooting today some gallery event with the S5II ( which I'm more than happy to have/use ) but today I felt I still have so much to learn about this camera and the features it comes with. While checking the clips , I've noticed how wrong my colors were. Now I'll have a better understanding. Thanks bro!! One more thing I need to ask : The brand of the T-shirt you have on this video, it looks sharp !!!
In the vlog view assist menu I don't have the "read lut file" visible (have max 3 character in file name and installed in sd card root folder). Any solution? xD
Real Time lut yes for fast Processing...but no for client Work where multicam is asked (interview) ans when max control over footage Image is required...(And in Resolve you can save your preset nods for Vlog and other correction as power grade and Always use them and for every project so you actually don't more time)...
I'm not sure i dare to shoot real time lut in mixed lighting (unmatched) scenes on my s5II. I know i should shoot BRAW for these situations but i don't.
@@aaronteh6491 expose 2 stops to the right, pull it down in post = less noise. I get very little noise in my shot with this method on any camera. The s5ii makes it so easy with custom monitor luts though. Always compensate with aperture or ND. Anything besides your base iso of 640 or 4000 will introduce more noise and make this technique less useful
realtime lut plus original vlog saved on the card (or to the two cards) simultaneously.. that would be something nice. or the ability to add lut in camera to an already recorded video, and make a separate video on the card, from within the camera..

Analogous to jpeg vs. raw for stills. Thanks for the grading demo!
I appreciate this breakdown, thank you! Also, thank you so so much for the LUT pack. I'm shooting with an S5iix
absolutely! thanks for checking out the vid!
dude sometimes I like the real time lut look better than v log with the same lut applied
me too.

Great video! I rather take full advantage of V Log thought, pain comes with gains 😁
💯 nothing replaces vlog it’s the best but this is a good option for quicker stuff

do you know if the in-camera monitoring tools such as the luminance spot meter refer to the underlying vlog image or the lut-applied image?
expose like you’re shooting vlog

VLOG isn’t hard to monitor if you make a -2EV 709 LUT for your view assist, but I see this as a great option for people who need a quick turnaround
Why -2ev?
