@Joel Schembri Not true. There is the Gransport MC Victory (which was made to celebrate the MC12 winning the world championship). It has colored carbon fibre (in 2006 no less! The 90th anniversary Spider and MC Stradale in Europe could also be added to that list.
A few things to consider, #1) I think you got a car that sat in a garage for a long time. Any car that is not driven a lot will develop issues all on their own due to non-use. Seals that don't get lubed regularly, oil and fuel get stale because it's not being used, batteries drain and go bad if you don't have a battery tender on it when it's going to be garaged for longer than a few weeks, and a lot more. #2) These cars do not use Ferrari Oil, there is no such thing as Ferrari Oil. They use 5W-40 Full Synthetic oil. I personally use pennzoil ultra platinum euro 5w40 in mine. I change my own oil for less than $100.00 including the filter. #3) I wonder what your BMW cost brand new compared to what it is worth today? Maserati is not the only car that depreciates like that, Mercedes, BMWs, AUDI, even Lamborghini's. A Lambo Gallardo will depreciate more than a Maserati, not to mention a $300K Bentley costing 60K in less than 5 years? I will also tell you I have had a 2014 Maserati Ghibli SQ4 with 67K miles on it for 1 year and 6 months now, it has been well maintained, not abused, and driven a lot. The mileage proves that. I have not had ANY issues with it. It has NEVER let me down. I love my Ghibli and will never get rid of it. I am sorry you are having such bad luck with yours, but don't blame it on the brand because yours is a lemon. Mine is a winner. Sorry.
James Raaymakers dude I know for a fact there are good cars in every batch made by any company. Glad you got a pristine example. BUT there are NUMEROUS videos and articles sharing how the depreciation is ridiculous and reliability is subpar. It is a luxury/sports car we get it, brand has heritage we get it, but you have to admit for the money the RISK only simply isn’t worth it. If you get a bad one your screwed. And that makes this just a bad car..
Dude you want to avoid anything Italian in Europe, they are always fast and look amazing but reliabilitiy is so bad both in italian motorbikes and cars especially have a lot of electronic problems... not only maserati, fiat, alfa romeo, also ducati for example... its a common italian mistake but if you have the money you dont really care about repairs I guess
The manual says it's 5W-40 Pennzoil (Platnum Euro full synthetic) it just has a Ferrari pic on it. An oil change should run about $85 for a DIY job, $50 (oil), $35 (filter), $0.50 (copper crush washer at home depot). Amazon sells it and other places. This is how you save money for serious mechanical issues lol
Guys dramatic called fix things your self . 540$ oil change who in there right mind brings car dealer get changed I bought a 2015 year for 18k best car ever owned
It’s gotta be those aftermarket wheels. These high performance cars have many sensors that detect if the transmission and possibly even the differential are working at maximum - all the time. It’s not like an RC F or an M3 where you can change the wheels, no problem. No. You have to adjust something in the transmission, most likely by computer, to accept the new wheels. Because the wheels are the last gear of your transmission, it senses that speed. When you change wheel size, the car still thinks the old wheels are on and will detect something is wrong because bigger wheels equals more speed. Notice this on your speedometer versus a ‘check your speed’ sign. If it doesn’t match, either the sign is bad or your speedometer is being told the wrong info by the transmission which causes it to go into limp mode. Another issue can be that the bigger wheels are damaging the transmission. These high performance cars come with light weight wheels from the factory.. so if you put some heavier replicas or a heavier wheel in general, it causes the transmission to do more work than it usually would with a regular wheel under 21”, the biggest wheel they put on these cars.
I put different sized tires on my 2015 Camry once because they did not have the perfect size. No problems apart from slightly less accurate readings on the speedometer.
A oil change is for 12,500 miles not 3,000 like your BMW or camero ....yes 12,500 per Maserati specs. You have a Ferrari filter but not Ferrari oil ......Ferrari does not make oil and it is 9 quarts. The car needs to be driven and not be a garage diva that is why your are having problems.
@ 4door mas - Don't know about your BMW oil change at 3000 miles but my 550i is at 15000 miles and varies based on driving. It typically cost $200 at dealer $100 if I do it myself.
4door mas Can confirm. I own a 2018 Ghibili S Q4 GranSport and a 2017 GT MC Convertible. The oil change is at 12500 miles or over 1 year. I had to do the 12500 on my GT, and the 1 year oil change on my Ghibli. I had prepaid maintenance, but it’s ~750 for the 1 year oil change and ~1200 for the 12500 change if I recall correctly.
Agreed this car is a POS but people don’t drive their cars and they have issues I drive the shit out of any car I’ve owned and never had reliability issues with any brands... bmw, Chevy, Volkswagen and the list goes on
simeunovicm although this is partially true, the true name is actually Fiat Chrysler, because Fiat never bought them, they just set up an agreement to merge the two companies, therefore the proper name is “Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.” Chrysler is a subsidiary of Fiat, but I will give you credit...
The reliability seems to be best described as "hit or miss". Depends on the car. I hear tons of nightmare stories from owners who treated and maintained it pristine. I also know someone with a 15' Ghibli with 130k miles on it. Maintenance aside, it's only had 3 repairs and the total cost of all 3 was $1,400. The key is..do NOT buy one with very low miles because you don't know if it's a decent or dud one. Find one with say 60k miles. If it already has lotta repairs..avoid! If it's needed none or maybe 1 repair.. probably a good one.
I got a 2014 completely new maserati ghlibi. I dont have any problem with it for 5 years. You are getting a 2nd hand car with modified wheels - thats the problem

@@lequrage1084 Just be prepared in resorting to alternative solutions to keep that car running. Like when the engine finally dies you can have a Chevy LS V8 from the Corvette swapped in which would make it more affordable to maintain.

Well, there are people out there who smoked for 40+ years and don't have respiratory issues. Don't think that means that the cigarette is safe and people are just weak. Just means that person has a really strong respiratory system and/or it hasn't taken as big of a toll on their bodies. You are just lucky so consider it a sort of miracle. It's not the car that's reliable. It's just you who got the lucky stick.
@@ashtonsamson6912 No doubt about that. I don't think I indicated anywhere that a Maserati was not, in fact, a car. Matter of fact, I do believe the entirety of my post was served to explain why the person's personal anecdote about their car not having any problems was not that the car itself was reliable but because they were just in fact lucky. But if you understood my argument as trying to say that the Maserati is a cigarette, then I have no idea what to do about your confusion other than to reiterate that I do understand that Maserati is indeed a car. Not a very reliable car or a particularly good car. But yes, I must agree, it is a car.
The interface is from Chrysler Dodge so any complaints about it not connecting blue tooth etc should be leveled at them - I have the same system in my Jeep and the same probs. Also, this car is based on the Chrysler 300 chassis -‘enough said.
I just bought a Gibley earlier this year. I just called the dealership after watching this video LOL. The technician said that after three years you will need new spark plugs that go along with your oil change which runs about 800 bucks. Luckily mine was done right before I bought it. I also have a three-year warranty
I have 2nd one in a row. 1st done 150k with no issue. Now another one 100k stll fine oil changes at 20k km. Cool for not wasting time. And design. 2014 still outstands 2023 models❤
We have ‘14 Q4 with 72k miles & never an issue. Husband gives me screen shot of 5w40 synthetic (8.8 qts needed out of 9 I buy) along with new oil filter & crush washer for plug. Right at $100 bucks for materials & he changes oil in under 30 mins every 12k miles. He has reset tool that was one time cost $169 to reset wrench light. We paid for 2 total major services at 35k & 70k but that is it other than tires. There are “Lemons” with every make & model. Sorry you seemed to have found one. He did just have to install a new battery this year.
Lemons have been around since the beginning of the auto industry. There were probably stories of people in the distant past that have Ford Model T’s that turned out to be Lemons.
I had issues caused by flat battery from not driving much during lockdown. Some bad design, can't easily open the trunk when the battery is flat. It's the fastest most luxiourous car I've ever owned. It's the only car I've owned that people have taken photos of. No problems connecting my phone. My servicing costs are not like yours, you're getting ripped off. I'd never have been able to afford mine if it got good reviews and held its value, so a big thank you to all the reviewers. New price in Ireland is 80,000 Euro because to excessive government taxation.
Anybody Who Knows Cars . Knows That The 2014 Model Was The Preview Model And All The Problems Were Fixed And Updated By The 2016 Model Which Has Nowhere Near As Many Problems As The 2014
True. I drove a 2018 for a couple of years on and off with no problems. Ran great. The 2014-2016 model years were a whole different story, though. I believe they worked out all the bugs and 2017 on should be ok. Buyer beware, tho, always get a warranty.
Thanks for the review. I only hired one of these Ghobli S 2018 and it sounded amazing. After watching your video I now know why its second hand prices are so cheap
These things depreciated like crazy here in the UK. Almost pulled the trigger on a 2016 ghibli, even though it was slightly out of my budget. I decided to go with a Lexus in the end, mainly because of the reliability concerns... Dodged a bullet, it seems.
You must of gotten a lemon. I never had an issue with mine. Runs great and phone hooks up easy. If you are buying a used one, you should make sure it’s a CPO where you have warranty just in case. This car isn’t for everyone especially if you don’t have money for maintenance.
@@davidrobinson3148 that engine is basically bulletproof lol i have never seen anyone have an issue with the engine in these cars, just electrical issues
I’ve had my 2016 for about 2 years and never has any issues. It’s got 47,000 miles on it. We’ve changed our own oil and replaced brake pads and rotors. We do not use the special Ferrari oil - LOL
It's a shame you had these issues. I've had two and currently still have one. They are great cars, mine been very reliable, sound wonderful, looks gorgeous and drives superbly and it ain't German!!! I guess you just got hold of a Friday afternoon car... They're not all like that...
Dear Owen, ı'm also planning to buy a 3.0 LT V6 410 hp Ghibli SQ4, would you really advice me? Can you a little tell me about your experience on Ghibli?
I have a 2018 S model with 42K on it. Never had one single issue. Don't like the shifter. Other than that, don't be lazy. An oil change is less than $100.00 if you do it yourself. Takes 30 minutes.
As with any car you should wait a couple years after launch for them to work out the kinks. I'm sure a 2019 Ghibli is far more reliable than a 2014 or 2015.
I had a 2015 Maserati Ghibli for almost 4 years. I heard many people complain that the pre-2015 models were terrible. I drove the car for 40,000 miles. The acceleration and drive in sport mode was great. The leather interior was luxurious. Other than that, I felt the car was cheaply made with Dodge parts except for the engine which is Ferrari made. The maintenance costs were the deal killer for me. Once this car is out of warranty, it becomes a money pit and this model has a horrid depreciation rate. You could get a 2015 Ghibli used for under $30K but it's a sucker's deal because you'll be spending a king's ransom just to keep the car running. For the money, there are better options out there.
I work at an affluent gated community and we saw an almost new Maserati Quattroporte that belongs to one of the homeowners getting towed back to the dealer for repairs. I think it's the second time for this car, as I saw the husband driving a loaner car from the dealer several months ago for a couple of weeks. I see a similar thing with some of these high-end Mercedes and BMWs, with insane repair bills when the cars are out of warranty. I guess these rich people don't mind it; they can afford to shell out the bucks to keep them fixed. Me, I bought a new Japanese-made Nissan 370Z that is solidly built and that won't fall apart if I look at it the wrong way.
Any "luxury" car that uses plastic parts or entertainment/navigation units from Chrysler should be avoided at any cost, period! It is like buying a Brunello Cucinelli blazer that comes with the sleeves made by Walmart ... and shrinks randomly on its own 🙂
No problems with my 2018 Ghibli Grandsport. Lane assist, blue tooth, etc, all perfect. Starts beautifully after a 2 week biz trip......and such a looker on the road. Sweet I say. I stay away from BMWs......everyone has one....
I drive an M4 competition, my parents drive a Ghibli. Guess which one turns more heads in Miami... the Ghibli :/ - The M4 destroys the Ghibli in every single way tho, I’ve raced both cars multiple times
1 Who said I’m jealous ? Or even upset ? People are shitting on the Ghibli by saying an M4 is a better option and I was simply defending the Ghibli lmao
Oil is oil. Stick to the weight. Learn mechanics and you won't have to bash a beautiful machine. Parts are slightly a little more than the normal price but not as expensive as most people on youtube are saying.
My associate has two I’m currently buying one to add to my collection of vehicles. I’m getting the 2015 model Q4. No one I know has issues with that vehicle. They love it. One of my associates has two different colors. 5:11
Mag Movies i have ghibli. Love it. In our century “not reliable” doesn’t mean “will break every day”. It will break faster tham Mercedes, it will be more expensive to service, yes. But it is mucn much much nicer. In London here lots if range rovers, bmw, mercedeses. And everybody around watch my maserati ghibly, give compliments. I see Mercedes a few times more expensive is driving - no reaction from public. My Ghibli gets all attention, love, compliments. I enjoy sitting inside and driving. Enjoy seeing it from my window
Just to provide some balance to the negative comments, many which appear to be based on hearsay. I have owned a Ghibli V6 Diesel for over three half years - I'm in the UK and like a lot of people in Europe diesel engines are the usual choice for large 4 door saloons with the benefits in fuel economy - and it's one of the most reliable cars I've owned. I had owned a number of Jaguars for twenty years and a Lexus. Interestingly the Lexus let me down when the power steering failed, and the Jaguars all had various small issues. However it's not that Jaguars have issues, ALL cars have issues be they German British or Italian. My Ghibli has so much more style and character than any of the usual German premium brands, whose E class or 5 series etc are dull boring and so ubiquitous you would never give them a second glance. Whilst you have clearly had issues with your car, the early models were more troublesome, but have been greatly improved from 16my onwards. May I suggest you look at some of the forums for BMW Mercedes Audi etc, you will see you are not alone with problems, and at least your car looks something special compared to the oh so boring mainly German competition!
A large portion of this video was me messing around! I honestly had no clue it would get this many reactions! I do appreciate your input though! Seriously!
I would take the 5 series anyway. Quality is way better and so is everything else, sure you have a nice engine but that’s it. Plus the 5 series has more bold styling. Maserati’s just blend in like Tesla’s. In most cases they are around the same price but people still don’t buy them.
It was 5 years old in 2019. You should not have been surprised at ~57% depreciation over 5 years. MOST new cars depreciate at LEAST that much. The better ones still lose ~45-50%. So that depreciation is not unusual at all...it’s typical. And you got a low volume Italian car.
Dodge Ram lol it’s a specific type they use for Ferrari’s what about that is so hard to understand it’s not called sw-Ferrari but it’s only used on Ferrari’s so they use it on maseratis too
That's what I don't get. Get a warranty and you have nothing to worry about. You can't buy these cars and not have anything to back it if something breaks.
This video would have been more useful if you added a technical analysis of the issue and how to resolve it. Or what it costs to resolve it and whether the issue returned.
I dont understand people who buy Maserati and complain about maintainance cost, buy a chevy if you don't want high prices, not luxury brands. Also there is lot of difference in panel colors, car has been in accident and repainted badly, that is why it has problems.
If your buying and selling cars regularly why not do the work yourself? that's where the money is made. buying at 30g market is at the top end of what it is worth. no money to be made off of the car from the gate. I've never made money on a sale. I've made my money on the purchase of future equity.
N smith correct. This is my roommates car half the stuff I said wasn’t even serious in this but I totally agree. Although, this ghibli did depreciate faster than any car I’ve ever seen even after being out for 5 years lol
@@WestonMooreTheCarDealer Trust me I've definitely been there more than once. when i saw the ghibli values I started searching for repo's and repairables. there's a large market of people wandering into the exotics market. most are one time buyers but the money is there if you can get the cars cheap enough to post for a tempting list price.
As a Ghibli owner, here are some tips if for some reason you still want a Ghibli. 1. Do everything BY YOURSELF. Oil changes, brakes, you name it. Never take it to the dealer by any means, they will rip you off, essentially 2. Don’t listen to people saying that the car needs special parts because it’s a Maserati. There’s nothing that complicated under the surface, everything is pretty much made to look complicated and push you to go to the dealer and dump your money away 3. Mod your car not just for performance, but for practicality and convenience These changes have made my life easier and have saved me tons of money as a Ghibli owner, but please only buy it if you’re willing to put in the extra work and have the space to do the work. Hope this helps anyone that by any chance needs this!
@@francisconaranjo928 It really depends. If you have the money and time to put down for the days you’ll have to maintain the car or fix up the car, you may of course go for it. No doubt, it’s an incredibly fun car to drive, but there sure are those days where I have to set aside quite some time to work on the car. Parts aren’t all that cheap, as well, and though they’re not impossible to find, you may have to spend a little time searching for the correct parts. That’s why I said go for it if you’re willing to put down the money and time. If not, then there are most definitely better and more reliable cars out there that I’m sure you’d enjoy! Hope this helps!
@@creepysmilingcarl9742 That’s basically all I was trying to say! A lot of people give the Ghibli a lot of hate for being mostly a Chrysler 300 or just being plain unreliable, but you just gotta work on the car yourself and admit that even with some Chrysler parts, it’s still a great car to drive.
I had a 2015 ghibli. I liked the car despite issues with the AC and stereo, and the power steering pump wouldn't work when it was very cold out. Supposedly a lot of the quirks and reliability issues were fixed from 2016 onward. Fun car to drive, though, and the used ones are a steal. Learn to change the oil and brakes yourself and save a ton of money.
I prefer Maserati over the Mercedes and it was the same price, but mom said it was not very reliable and I am glad I listened to her. But I still prefer the Maserati 😂
BREND what was it that pushed you over the edge about the car to reach out to a lemon law attorney? I hear nothing but bad things about them from previous owners.
Honestly the limp mode issue can happen to any car, it happened to my wife in the summer time in GA on the highway. Her BMW 335 wouldn’t go over 2000 rpms and her A/C also wouldn’t work. We had to pull off the highway and restart the car for it to correct itself, just to drive another hour and it happen again. After 2 months at the dealership it was finally fixed, temporarily
I work in the service department at a Maserati dealer, and I can confirm that buying a used Ghibli is probably the worst decision ever. Now the new 2019s are much much better, but still not the best. They're super cool and fun cars, but if you get one expecting it to be reliable and practical, then you're fooling yourself.

And that makes this just a bad car..
They just don’t know how to build cars
You just wait
Maserati is garbage though, same thing with Alfa Romeo and the whole FCA group. Ask any European to hear the truth

👏👏👏
Yup something to consider
I have a 2016 Ghibli sq4. It a horrible vehicle, definitely not worth the money.
I put different sized tires on my 2015 Camry once because they did not have the perfect size. No problems apart from slightly less accurate readings on the speedometer.
@@davidperry4013 yeah, tires are no biggie. Especially if you kept the factory wheels.
Synthetic can be put in the Camaro or the BMW and the oild won't need to be changed for 10 to 15k miles. Maserati isn't doing anything different

Yes because the seller has never lied about having more than one repair 😜

I had a 2015 Maserati Ghibli for almost 4 years. I heard many people complain that the pre-2015 models were terrible. I drove the car for 40,000 miles. The acceleration and drive in sport mode was great. The leather interior was luxurious. Other than that, I felt the car was cheaply made with Dodge parts except for the engine which is Ferrari made.
Horizon301 bmw 5 series are quite bland to be brutally honest, however the E39 and E60 stuck out quite well (in a good way).

It was 5 years old in 2019. You should not have been surprised at ~57% depreciation over 5 years. MOST new cars depreciate at LEAST that much. The better ones still lose ~45-50%.

Never take it to the dealer by any means, they will rip you off, essentially
2. Don’t listen to people saying that the car needs special parts because it’s a Maserati. There’s nothing that complicated under the surface, everything is pretty much made to look complicated and push you to go to the dealer and dump your money away
3. Mod your car not just for performance, but for practicality and convenience
These changes have made my life easier and have saved me tons of money as a Ghibli owner, but please only buy it if you’re willing to put in the extra work and have the space to do the work. Hope this helps anyone that by any chance needs this!

What oil does it take ? 5w-40 ? Thanks.
You flip cars and you pay someone else $500 for an oil change? Hmm .. not sure what to think of that..
I drive a Ghibli and I have 68k miles on it already. No issues
Yet..
@francesco deminelli Nope I am an owner
I had a 2015 ghibli. I liked the car despite issues with the AC and stereo, and the power steering pump wouldn't work when it was very cold out. Supposedly a lot of the quirks and reliability issues were fixed from 2016 onward. Fun car to drive, though, and the used ones are a steal. Learn to change the oil and brakes yourself and save a ton of money.
My Ghibli S now 44000km, no single issue, smooth asf, I must say that the way you treat your car he/she will treat you back the same
Larris my Ghibli over 90k Miles. Your statement on point
I prefer Maserati over the Mercedes and it was the same price, but mom said it was not very reliable and I am glad I listened to her. But I still prefer the Maserati 😂
Had nothing but problems with mine. Reached out to a lemon law attorney.
BREND what was it that pushed you over the edge about the car to reach out to a lemon law attorney? I hear nothing but bad things about them from previous owners.
watch this video bro.

Faulty knock sensors are a common culprit for causing limp mode on old cars.
My experience with Maseratis is to keep the engine happy....at least 3,500 rpm in any gear
