Just updated from my 2005 Tacoma to a 2023 Ridgeline. Tried the 2023 Tacoma but didn't really like the seats. The Ridgeline is really fun, and coming into the modern world from 2005 was really a trip. I love all the computerized features. The ride is ultra comfortable and quiet. The ability to lie 4'x8' sheets flat was a selling point. For me, the Ridgeline RTL-E was the right choice.
How is the seating comfort/space in the ridgeline? I’m thinking about trading my tacoma for a Ridgeline because the tacoma seats are so uncomfortable/tight and give me knee pain.
@@nealjani8919there’s lots of space. I work at a Honda dealer and I’m head over heels for tacomas. But I was driving a Ridgeline today, and it is very comfortable. Plenty of from for 4 people, the arm rests I absolutely love, the only thing I don’t like is the 5ft bed, I need to haul 10 ft kayaks and I don’t thing that it will cut it. But it’s a very nice vehicle, I am considering getting one, and I’d say drive one, see how you feel about it. Nice sound system, idk about all trims but the black edition I found had speakers in the bed, which sound FAR better than I would’ve expected. Hell I think I just sold myself on it lol
@nealjani8919 Ridgeline has a significantly bigger interior than the Tacoma. It really does have the comfort and drive quality of an SUV. People try to insult the RL by calling it an SUV with a bed, when that's actually a compliment.
@@nealjani8919 I am 6-4, plenty of room - seats are wide, comfortable. Leather option will be stiffer if you prefer that. I sold BMW 5 series GT, which is basically 7 series with a hatchback and it's fairly close in comfort. I got a black edition, which to me is just as luxurious, it's really mind blowing how good Ridgeline is. Tested Tacoma, Colorado, Frontier - Ridgeline was in a league of its own.
After test driving many trucks, I ultimately went with the Ridgeline. Throughout life I've owned a mazda mini truck, a Tundra and a Tacoma, I ended up selling them as I finished large home projects when I found them hardly being utilized. Fast foward 10 years, I'm now remodelling my houses, so now I need another pickup. As I got older I realized I wanted more comfort for both me and the passengers and a "quasi" truck for convenience. I feel that I grown up and didnt feel the need on wasting money on modding a bad ass off roader that I will never hardly use. The Ridgeline is a kind of a "jack of all trades master of none" you might say, but i t checks all the boxes that I need.
I have taken every vehicle I have ever owned off road, cars and trucks. The more off road capable the vehicle just gives you more security off road and where you can go. Even more important is on road snow capability the better off road the better it will do with road snow. I have driven my 4x4 Dodge Ram through snow that was 3-4 feet deep.
In 2020, just on looks and capability, I was deadset on a taco, either off-road or pro. Drove em both, meh. Went to honda to see what they’d give me for my old car, drove a ridge line, fell in love. Best vehicle I’ve ever owned.
I am guilty of being old at 68 and recently retired. My dream was to buy a camper and a new truck and tour the USA. After much research and test drives I chose the 23 RTL and a Lance 1575. I love them both for what I was looking for. If you are blessed to reach my age you might choose the Ridgeline too as they are easier to get in and out of and are comfortable to drive. The storage is a plus as well as I can store my generator in the bed trunk and lock it up. While there are some disadvantages to the Ridgeline such as the bed is not as deep and the off roading deal, I can live with that. At the end of the month the wife and I are headed on a cross-country trip to Quartzsite Az. to enjoy some boondocking for a couple of months. After several local camping trips it will be interesting to see how it goes. I am sure the comfortable drive will mean a lot considering the distance. As Bros mentioned, find the truck that fits you and let the good times roll. Happy Trails!
Contemplated between the two, purchased Ridgeline sport a month ago for these reasons: AWD, roomier cabin, better on road ride and more comfortable driver seat and driving position. I like Tacoma but seat is too short, steering wheel does not telescope much and feel cramped inside. Very happy with the decision so far.
I am a older guy (58) and don’t use my truck (Ram 1500) like I used to. I do more daily driving (55 miles round trip) than hauling and I not towing anymore. The Ridgeline is at the top of the list. It just checks most of the boxes for me. I have test drove a Ranger, Frontier even a Outback but I need to drive the Ridgeline for sure. Great video and I’m enjoying the comments.
Just got the ‘23 RTL Ridgeline today. Definitely a better buy overall and living here in Oahu, well, there are just about more Tacomas here than anywhere in the world! It just feels cheap to drive one here. Then to make matters worse, it’s marked up way too much. Absolutely no advantage to get the Tacoma. Much mahalo for the vid!
Thanks for sharing! Mark ups aren't everywhere, so that's not a valid point about the Tacoma. I'm buying my 2024 for MSRP, much rather have that over a Ridgeline, but if you enjoy it, that's all that matters!
I just downsized from a full sized 2020 Nissan Titan Platinum Reserve to the 2023 Ridgeline RTL-e. It drives smooth as can be, awesome comfortable seats, and a spacious feeling, and what really is cool is that big under bed storage. My left knee had been bothering me pushing off of the running boards of the Titan when i would get in the truck, and now with the Ridgeline, i just step right into the truck. No more knee issue. I am loving the Ridgeline. The Honda dealer also gave me much more for my trade... No Brainer deal for me.
@Bros FOURR Speed Almost 50 yrs of being in trucks, in probably the "truckiest" part of the country and 30 years of construction industry. A high % of truck buyers never tow a trailer, and a small percentage of that small percentage tow max loads. And the tacomas 6700 tow rating is a play on numbers. In the real world, in many instances the RL is even more capable at towing.
@@Resistculturaldecline Ridgeline is rated at 5K so how could it tow more? But either way, people will buy the truck that beat suits them and what they want out of it.
@Bros FOURR Speed Tacoma 4x4 has around 1100lbs payload, some models less. Put two grown men in the truck (400lbs), 100lbs fuel, and a 300cc four wheeler in the bed, now its rated to tow zero pounds because there's no payload left to carry tongue weight. Ridgeline has roughly 50% more payload capacity to play with, in the same scenario allowing it to still tow nearly 3500+lbs. The Tacoma is a bit overrated at its listed max, and the RL is a bit underrated. The honda pilot awd is rated at 5k lbs. The ridgeline had it weight bearing structures increased by around 30% but honda just left it with the same 5k lbs towing. I've been around those two vehicles maxed out, and every other pickup imaginable, the tacoma is absolutely better offroad but carries no actual real world advantage on pavement at all.
@@Resistculturaldecline Your logic makes no sense, two guys in the truck and a 4wheeler, you can still tow even a 5K pound boat. But if you want to enjoy the Ridgeline great, I personally couldn’t buy one over a Tacoma. I’d take the Tacoma all day. But everyone has a preference and like I said, will buy what works for them.
I'm 6'3" and I don't use my truck offroad nearly as much as I thought I would. I downsized from a 1500 ram 4x4 off road package to the Honda. Tacoma didn't have enough room, the ride quality was so-so, it was louder. If you need a truck to be a truck and get it stuck deep in the mud, absolutely get a tacoma. If you're rarely taking it off pavement and its for long road trips? Honda all day.
Just depends on what you like and prefer more! I don't offroad as much as I would like too, but still would take the Tacoma over the Honda allay. Also depends on the mods you want to do. No one is lifting a Ridgeline or doing anything to it, so if that's something the buyer wants to go, the Tacoma has a huge following with mods and all!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed check out "JonDZ Adventuring" on RUclips for off-roading mods and capabilities on recent model year Honda Ridgelines and Passport-trail sports. There are a few companies making sliders, 3.5" lifts and body armor. It will never be a rock crawler but it can modified pretty easily and affordably to make it a mild to almost "moderate" off-roader. The stock transmission needs no tweaking. Watch the white Honda Ridgeline in Jon's videos to see what can be done, it is heavily modified with impressive capability for an every day very comfortable driver with good mpg.
I live in the mountains with 8 mo long winters and icy snow roads. You have to work at trying Ridgeline loose traction. Its not a rock crawler, but I have a mountain bike for that.
I own a 2021 Toyota 4Runner SR5 Premium that I absolutely love. The only thing it lacks is hauling bigger items so I wanted to get it a sibling and I was dead set on getting a Tacoma. Unfortunately for months I could not find a Tacoma with everything that I wanted. My wife was also looking for a new vehicle and wanted to look at new Accords. We took a trip to our local Honda dealer to look at Accords and they had a few Ridgelines in the showroom. I never had any interest in the Ridgeline whatsoever. After sitting in the Ridgeline and noticing all of the features it came with I decided to give it a test drive. I was sold. Went ahead and purchased a 2023 Black Edition. I absolutely love it. My opinion, if off roading and cool looks are the two most important things to you then definitely get a Tacoma. As far as daily driving, cab room, hauling, and many other features the Ridgeline is the clear winner. I don’t do any off roading and if I did I still have my 4Runner, so I am 100% satisfied with the Ridgeline. I am so glad my wife wanted to look at Accords otherwise I probably would have never even looked at a Ridgeline. The only problem is now my wife likes it so much she has forgotten about getting an Accord and she wants to drive the Ridgeline daily. I guess since it is not a real truck she will look cooler in it than me. 😂
I have an 08 Ridgeline and its been the best vehicle i have ever owned. Been looking around for a new truck. Will either be a new Ridgeline or Tacoma. As much as i prefer the exterior of the Tacoma im still leaning towards Ridgeline. Much more cabin space, smoother ride. The flat bed (no wheel well bump) makes a big difference. The storage trunk unde the bed is huge! I dont drive off road so i gotta go Ridgeline
I have a 2007 Ridgeline and love it. Also between Tacoma and a new Ridgeline. Will probably go with Ridgeline because of in-bed trunk, rear seat going up for storage, more space. Oh and the tailgate opening 2 ways in the Ridgeline and no wheel wells protruding into the bed.
I need comfortable seating and good highway handling 90% of the time and a bed to haul stuff only 10% of the time, so the Ridgeline was the right choice for me. So far it's been a great "truck"!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed I think a lot of the resistance you are getting from people about these two vehicles is they want something that’s going to be comfortable. A smooth ride as well. That’s in favor of the Ridgeline. So what we need to do is wait until the 24 Tacoma comes out with the coil springs and better suspension. I’m gonna guess that people are going to be swayed with the better ride AND the off-road capabilities with the redesigned Taco. We shall see
I bought a 2023 Sport Ridgeline in 6/23. I’ve put 3k miles on it and mainly use it to tow a 3650 lb bass boat. After owning 2 1500 GMC Crew Cab 1994 to 2008 5.7 and a 2008 to 2023 5.3 there was quite an adjustment size wise and performance. NEITHER GMC was 4WD. Both had 17” wheels and rode very smooth with plenty of torque. I like the Ridgeline for the comfort & it’s adequate towing power that meets my need. What I stored in the back of both GMC’s I now store in the trunk in the Ridgeline. It’s enormous. I still have an A.R.E. LSII hard cover ordered. My gas mileage is anywhere from 15-20 mpg. I don’t baby this vehicle & never got anything close to this with either GMC trucks and both had A.R.E. hard covers. I don’t think you’ll be sorry. I wanted cloth & no sliding back window. The whole thing boiled down to price. In 2008 the GMC SLE-1 out the door was $28,800. A comparable GMC from the same dealer was $64,200. I told the sales guy GM priced themselves outa my league. Honda financed 0.9% for up to 24 months. Sold at $41,349.
The Honda is way more practical and I’ve had both. The Taco is great as a status vehicle. My 2015 Tacoma off-road was worthless on wet roads. I traded my taco for a tundra. 100x better for me
2 Great Trucks to choose from. Ridgeline is my choice without questions. More spacious and luxurious Cabin and far better and more comfortable, Acura level ride.
I test drove a Ridgeline yesterday. The 2019 Ridgeline felt better for ride and manuevering and useful accoutrements than my Acura RDX imho. Going back today to seal the deal on a 2023 Ridgeline. 🎉
Say you want to go somewhere with more than two adults? Who’s riding in the back? The utility of the Tacoma bed is also driving me away…. Say the Ridgeline isn’t a real truck, but what are you fitting in the back of a Tacoma?
Taco looks more aggressive and sporty from every angle. Both interiors are out of date based on other 2023 automobiles. I prefer waiting for next gen(2024) with more technologies implemented and it was one of the reasons I picked bronco 😢 I want to have a taco so much
I sold a 2019 Ridgeline for a 2022 Tacoma. The transmission on the ridgeline sucks, The six speed is junk, the 9 speed is starting to show problems, and its got a timing belt. I towed a 17ft boat with the Ridgeline and the transmission sounded like it was ready to explode and refuses to shift into 6th. Its a comfortable ride but you need to keep in mind its an odyssey with a truck bed not a framed truck. I put 45k on my ridgeline and it just never felt like it shifted right. My wife had a 2019 Passport and her transmission failed at 50k and was replaced under warranty. Google 2022 ridgeline transmission, there are all kinds of problems with the ZF 9 spd (same one in passport). We traded it for a Highlander and got rid of my Ridgeline for a tacoma, I went with the limited so aside from a heated steering wheel, its same same. The Tacoma will last 300k, Ridgeline will not. Buy the best warranty they offer if you are going with the Honda.
Can’t go wrong either way. If you want something comfortable to drive that handles light truck duties, Ridgeline is great. If you want something you can customize and build you an off road truck or overland, a Taco is the way to go. I’ve owned both. Both are pretty bullet proof. Toyota probably has less maintenance cost in the long run. I currently have a Ridgeline, because I have a Bronco for off road stuff. Plus the Toyota are just so popular, hard to find a good used one. People were buying them online without even test driving them. Crazy.
I had a 98 Tacoma and was thinking about a 2022 till after I test drove the Ridgeline. It boiled down to I’m not going off road and I have lots of road trips planned. My Ridgeline is a comfortable vehicle that doesn’t beat me up on a long drives. I love driving my Ridgeline. Toyota needs to rethink their seats. That was the deciding factor.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed hell yeah. It’s a beautiful truck. I drove through some crazy snow storms in my Tacoma. I new she would always get me home. Now living in Texas and my ridgeline has performed admirably in a few nasty ice storms. Either at you can’t go wrong
I have a 2017 Ridgeline and love it. Drives great, it’s comfortable, roomy and all the cool features make it a great vehicle . The swing open tailgate feature and trunk area are just too cool, so handy. Great for traveling.
Nice vid. The Ridgeline is pretty damn capable as an off roader although ground clearance could be better for sure and it could def use skid plates which are available from the aftermarket. BTW, the RTL-E also has an in bed AC power outlet so you can use your tools just as you mentioned for the Tacoma.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed I have, I own one and it does pretty well. Again the reference to skid plates. The IVTM-4 all wheel drive is very capable. This truck is not an off roader by nature but it's a nice overall package for folks that don't spend their life on the back roads.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed I owned the 2006 Ridgeline for 14 years, that thing would not get stuck in sand, that was the extent of my off-roading ,except logging roads, pulled 4000 lb trailer and all my gear all over the United States, it never let me down. Waiting for 2024 trailsport Ridgeline.
I tow a small camper (2,900 lbs - Casita). Despite the Taco towing more, the RL is plenty for my needs. Love both trucks. I don’t really off-road other some forest service roads while camping. The RL’s AWD system is more than adequate. Both are amazing trucks (yes, the RL is a truck). The deal breaker for me is the lack of payload for the Taco TRD Pro. I would bet it is not much more than 1,000 lbs while the RL has a payload of about 1500 lbs or so. Given all the above and the other comforts and conveniences of the RL, I would choose the Honda. Actually, I am waiting until the end of 2024 to buy. I want to see the 2024 RL with the Trail Sport trim and I want to see the new 2024 Tacoma with the 6’ bed and how it sizes up with payload. I am interested in other midsize trucks as well. Great selection!
I was between the New Taco and a 0 Miles Ridgeline and the Ridgeline is still a way better vehicle. Plus I got a 2.9% interest rate on a 60 months financing.
Great and HONEST Reviews!!!! Last year we wanted to downsize from Silverado and get out of lease! Wanted a Taco or Ridgeline but the WEF wouldn't let us get one without begging! Long story short ended up with a CRV AWD. Amazing cargo and just been perfect! I look at a Taco and my heart skips a beat but after having the AWD and never having to worry about destroying my transfer case I don't think i'll ever give that up if the WEF ever allows us normal people to buy what we want without begging and selling everything we used to own. Was going for RAV4 FIRST but Page Toyota in Michigan was gouging $2K over msrp. Genthe Honda was at sticker without a single dealer added option!! I maintain my vehicles perfectly and now that I have the CVT I love it and have already changed my fluid. Easier than an oil change! Beware new Traditional Trans, Checking fluid levels in trans is complicated, not so with the cvt! Well done guys!
I was looking for either a ridgeline or a tacoma. I love the ridgeline cause it's like an suv but the tacoma has lots of customizations available that I love. I finally chose the tacoma and I love it. On line you can find anything to customize it and that's what I'm doing now and I enjoy it a lot. I'm short so the tacoma small cabin is not an issue for me. I also love that you feel like you are in a real truck
Ridgeline is a far better price/quality ratio. You’ll get motion sickness in Tacoma back seat. Not in ridgeline. Storage is massive and usable. Great everyday car/truck. Off road can do but let’s not try and do Bruce Canyon hill climbing. You can get there with this truck though.
Actually the ridgeline has outside power source and outside speaker at end of tailgate and the under tail trunk. Interior looked more modern with screen. You seemed more leaned to Tacoma right off the start. I’m a girl not wanting the extra height clearance of the Tacoma and prefer the more enjoyable drive in Ridgeline.
I mentioned all of that in the full review, but I like the Tacoma way more. I’d never buy a Ridgeline over the Tacoma, that’s why I have a 24 Tacoma on order lol, but if you enjoy it great!
I wouldn't regurgitate the "minivan" frame line so many reviewers like to throw out as it's false and shows little actual research was done. The Ridgeline has what's called a closed box ladder frame that is unibody but it shares less than 10% overlap between the Ridgeline frame and that of the Pilot or Odyssey. The Ridgeline also has an outlet as well as speakers in the bed. Just looking at the video you can see how Toyota has somehow managed to make their entire lineup feel cramped. That's why they lack any sort of headroom and a wide range of seat adjustability. It's also why their interiors seem so dark (tinted windows don't help). I can also not understate the luxury of full time awd vs. full time rwd with brief switches to 4x4 when needed. I am however glad to see Toyota, like Honda, putting their safety systems on more trim levels, which is why they cost more than something like the Maverick which you can get for 20k as front wheel drive only and not a lick of safety equipment.
Its so you actually have ground clearance and don't scrape on every fuckin twig and rock on the trail. 9"+ ground clearance depending on the model compared to the shitlines 7'' clearance. Also that things trans overheats on mild hills. Skip to 15mins. ruclips.net/video/B5eE697aqEg/видео.html
@@tonyllaguno4845 Sure it’s ok, but people will buy what they want. Can’t take the Ridgeline offroad and that’s what I enjoy, so it can’t match the Tacoma for that. I prefer driving the Tacoma over a Ridgeline, I don’t like how it drives.
Ridgline should: 2 inches higher, touch wider, add built in cargo bins to bed walls, add power plug in bed, increase towing to 6k, and 30 mpg…. Literally the perfect do it all truck at that point! Let’s go Honda you can easily do this.
2” higher how? Towing on the Tacoma is 6500. Only thing Honda has is mpg and maybe more comfortable. Just depends on what you want. I’d take the Tacoma all day over it!
Thanks for the informative review. Thanks as well to those who made their comments. I am not looking at going off road or towing. Just a bed for some garden tools and probably moving kids stuff in and out of college dorms. Might think of getting a ridgeline. 😊
Looks dept-Tacoma hands down. Smooth ride-Honda. Family friendly-Honda. Off Road- Tacoma. Towing-Tacoma. Storage space-Honda. I almost went with the Honda , almost did the 2024 tacoma with turbo but went with 22 Tacoma sport access cab with 6ft bed. (Never good idea to buy first model year of new stuff) The tacoma trans hunting issues were really annoying until I did the KDmax tune which fixed the problem and added a few HP. I still like the Ridgeline (awd in rain is good) but they need to make it look tougher. The passport, ridgeline and pilot all look the same in the front.
This is not even a fair comparison at all… you’re really gonna put the Ridgeline against the Tacoma TRD Pro which is purpose built for off roading? 🤷🏻♂️ you’re comparing apples to oranges.
Good job on the thoroughness. Overall got the information I was after in this review, but if you're going to compare two different trim levels, it doesn't make sense to me to compare the options between the two. I get the sense you like the Tacoma more.
Why wouldn't I compare the options? With two trucks that cost about the same, that's exactly what should be apart of the comparison, showing what each truck offers for the price.
Thank you for your video. Would it be possible to do a comparison between a Honda Ridgeline and a Ram 1500 Classic with the 3.6 pentastar engine? They both share around the same width... I'm 5'07 and am interested in determining which is most convenient.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed Thank you for your quick response! I completely agree with you. They're both of different sizes. I'm 5'07 and my wife and I are planning to start our family. We went to see a Tacoma and Frontier and we felt that we were tight in space while testing a child seat. I've heard that the Honda Ridgeline offers more space in the rear seats. The beds trunk looks great for extra space. I too like that the Ram also provides drawers in the back of the driver seat and passenger as well as a Rambox. Which makes it easier for me to access things from the bed.
@@jorgecervantespartida8929 The Ridgeline is going to be very similar in size for car seats I think. If you really want that extra space, a full size is going to be more practical for that! I’m sure people have put car seats in the back of a Ridgeline, but it’ll be different for everyone. I do like that storage under the bed in the Ridgeline, so that’s very practical for a stroller or stuff like that I would think! Hopefully you can find a Ridgeline to maybe test some items to see if it’ll work!
Ridgeline seems like the logical choice. Anyone who wants to do any serious off-roading will get an ATV and a ridgeline will get an ATV to any trail head you would want to go to, and be more comfortable/practical while doing it. Most off-road trucks stay on pavement anyways, I'm not sure why there's a huge focus on off-road capabilities when we drive vehicles on the road 99% of the time.
I’d buy the Tacoma like I have! Owned two so far and love them! Just depends on what you want. Not everyone wants a 4wheeler lol..you can do that with a Tacoma. Logical choice is different for everyone..
A lot of auto manufacturers cant get out of their own way... incl. Honda. No one under 45 yrs old is gonna buy a Ridgeline as long as it looks like a sedate "gentlemans truck." It's been an overly conservative, self-limiting strategy. All they had to do for the last 8+ years was lift it a couple inches and build it with wider fenders and a more aggressive hood/grill - instant market share boost and credibility in the segment. Once youre in the Ridgeline, the drivng experience is far superior to the Tacoma... except for aggressive off road driving... a capability only about 10% of truck owners need. Free tip Honda... Make it look more like a Tacoma... and it will start selling more like a Tacoma
That’s all crap for insecure bros that compensate for low-t with a truck that gives appearance that they actually use it to climb rocks on the weekend, when only 1% actually do that.
so now thinking of trading my tacoma for a ridgeline . I will miss the ride height , but i need more space , and rear ac for the minions. plus the dual trunkbed and trunk bed is so practical. I will miss my sound of my tacoma , injen air intake and dual flow master exhauset note . i love driving it , but cramped ... things that i am skeptical is the infotainment is delayed and slow and now way of being able to upgrade to aftermarket android auto. electronic shifter .
Yeah the Ridgeline has a lot to offer to be very livable. I'd assume you could do an intake and exhaust on it for better sound out of the V6 tho. So maybe there are some options.
was watching this video while sitting here in honda waiting for my car to be done in service.. But price wise tacoma can start at $27k and ridgeline can start at $38k so price wise.. and if u only want a basic truck ill go with the cheaper option.. funny u mentioned, its like a an odyssey with pick up. coz i have one of the odyssey too😂
Ive had three tacomas i liked them a lot. But the dealers and service are absolutely the worst in the industry. Ive done business with four of them around my area and they all were very shady and hard to negotiate with. It really soured my experience and made me trade to a ridgeline. The ridgeline is way more comfortable, quieter, faster and more ergonomic. The only thing is you cant customize it as much. It has a higher quality interior. The dealers were fair and I’ve had zero issues with service so far. Plus if you want a new toyota they are marking them up over msrp and you can even order a custom truck unless you wait until one to your spec becomes available then theyll mark that one up…. Anyway thats just my experience.
Dang sorry to hear that. I’ve had zero issues with my local dealers and none of them have mark ups! I’ll be getting my 4th gen for MSRP. Unfortunate you had that experience. I won’t make the switch, I love the Tacoma a lot more!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed Yes, you love your Tacoma. Your review was pretty biased in favor of Tacoma. Just little comments like, "in the mini-van over here", and "I'll actually have to give the Ridgeline some credit here". People, save your time and look for more unbiased "reviews"
I'm always encouraged by the nature of folks who can forgive 20 years of Taco's rusting out from under their owners. I compared these two vehicles back in 2017 - There was a 2014 Ridgeline and A 2014 Tacoma. Guess which one was already rusting at the frame? Yeah - They still hadn't fixed the problem. One nice thing is - I can offer to drive a small group of adults in my vehicle without anyone being cramped. I wanted to like the toyota, and I probably would if I were 25 years old... but comfort is a part of the daily driving experience, and reliability (something Toyota was known for before 2000) is important. I miss the Toyota T100. Now that was a good truck!
I own a 2017 Tacoma and ZERO rust. Yes they had an issue, for NORTHERN VEHCILES ONLY. But fixed them all under warranty for the small percentage that were effected. But buy what you enjoy, I can’t wait for my next Tacoma!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed They fixed some. I traded my Sequoia away because of the rust - long before they were taking responsibility for the problem. Like I said - I'd like to trust and enjoy a Toyota again - just looking for reliability and comfort as i get older. Got burned once
@@BrosFOURRSpeed Thanks - I've lived here since the 1960's. Some brands consider things like that - some don't care. There's a reason you and I aren't driving Dodges right? We prefer cars to be reliable. Toyota was a reliable car for the region - until those Tundras and Tacomas started rusting through. They'd snap right in half ! Great engines and drive train - but that was a mess. I'm not saying it's still a problem... I'm just cautious. I'll watch em for a few more years before I get back to Toyotas. I've owned 3 over the years.
CS Here Again Dude OK So For A Fan Of Is The Toyota Tacoma Also About The Tacoma So It’s Been Almost 6 Years Ago Since Back In 2017 That You Just Owned Back In The Day Also More Modifications Since Then So I Just Loved It.
Tacoma looks so much cooler on the outside.. However it's uncomfortable, archaic interior, and not even close to being as practical all-around. I do love that the Taco comes in a Manual, but that's the only feature that I'd want in the Tacoma that the Ridgeline doesn't have.
I owned one for 6 years and before that 9 years, not uncomfortable for me. And how’s it not as practical? Personal preference, but I’d buy a Tacoma all day over a Ridgeline.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed Tacoma was my first real dream car. Finally could afford one in 2020 and was so disappointed when I went to the dealer to test one. I still think they're by far the best looking trucks on the road.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed Stiffness and cabin size in particular. I have two kids and they were 6 and 2 at the time. The Tacoma gave no room for the car seat one to even move her legs without my wife or I having to move the seat way up. I was super bummed because I really really wanted to love it. Surprisingly the Ranger Turbo was the most fun to drive.
Taco hay wagon with an engine, I.e. body on frame. Minivan with a bed, Ridgeline? modern and comfortable. No comparison because very few people take the truck out of the Walmart parking lot. Just saying.
Toyota sells about 20,000 tacos per MONTH. Hundreds at an event is insignificant. 99.99% of body on frame trucks will never see anything more challenging than a gravel road. Are tacos better off road? Yes. Many people get sucked into perception vs reality of ownership.
@@lbjgh Buy what you want and enjoy it! Doesn’t matter what others think. If someone will enjoy driving it on the pavement, that’s what will make them happy. But people do take them offroad.
Tacoma, Honda transmissions are utter garbage. I had a 2019 Ridgeline and the transmission broke at around 48k mi, and the plastic actuators in the tailgate are flimsy... and that's not even doing 'truck-stuff'.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed Yeah, regrettably, these Hondas... they're not our parents' or grandparents' Hondas. They're over-engineered on the cheap. I did a dumb and traded in our Tundra for that Ridgeline; we wanted something which rode nice, better anti-theft, and had good fuel economy for cross-country trips... yet practical for hauling. After the transmission was replaced in the Honda, I made an even trade for a used Tundra... those 2nd gen. Tundras are just rock-solid pickups... but forget 3rd. Besides, that dumb Honda had ANOTHER recall for defective piston-rod bearings. Yeah, I'm sure a bunch of flat-rate paid stealership techs are going to be ripping-apart crankcases and meticulously replacing all those bearings. Nuh-uh. The Tacomas are nice... but they cost about as much as full-size in the used market, why bother.
As much as I prefer the ridgeline, the Tacoma is a real truck!! A truck without a rear axle is NOT a real truck. I have the 2023 Ridgeline and its not a real truck. So you can't really compare them. I bought the Ridgeline because I wanted the Honda SUV feel but with the truck concept, plus you can never go wrong with the Honda V6. It's the best engine the car industry.
It would be nice if the Dept of Motor Vehicles considered the Ridgeline a Minivan just like the Bros FOUR Speed wise guy does, it would be a lot cheaper to register it. Just because it doesn't have a full body frame it doesn't mean it's not capable. That bell housing on the Taco drags lower than any part on the Ridgeline.
I own a 2017 toyota tacoma trd offroad with the oem trd fox shocks. I bought it in October 2016 and I've been happy with it, but I went out of town trip. I just started feeling all the bumps, jumpy, transmission searching for gears, seating position, lack of space, ect... I really like my truck it has 128,000 miles on it and everything is working great but I feel like I want a more comfortable truck or suv.
The Ridgeline Payload rating is higher than thatTRD PRO so Ridgeline with passengers can carry more. Many always focus on Towing numbers and not Payload numbers. That RTL-E Ridgeline also has Truck Bed Audio System. It has exciters behind Truck Bed walls. Speakers. When pushed on information screen speakers turn off inside cabin. The Bed speakers will play. When you start driving 9mph I think They will shut off.
@Bros FOURR Speed So Ridgeline is 1,500-1,583 Tacoma models max Payload numbers are 1,600+ TFL did comparison of some Tacoma models. The new redesign Tacoma they have higher. The Ridgeline is also higher than so other midsized trucks as well on Payload.
He seems like her already made up his mind that he prefers the Tacoma. He kept low key roasting the ridgeline. If you are a dog owner. The ridgeline is better.
I made one joke on the Ridgeline, but that was it. Why is it better for a dog? I don’t have any problems in the Tacoma with a dog. Both are good depending on what you want.
@BrosFOURRSpeed the two way tail gate allows dogs to get in easier. The bumer serves as a step. This is helping dogs with physical disabilities or smaller dogs who don't have hops get into the kennel or truck bed.
@@joshuaroberts5784well that depends on the dog of course, my dog can make the jump. Even if she couldn’t I could lift her in. Just depends on the situation. I wouldn’t say that’s the main reason to go with the Ridgeline. But if you enjoy it, great!
Just bought a Ridgeline but wanted a Tacoma but the Taco a was 10,000 more at same trim level. After having Ridgeline for a month I would take the Ridgeline over the Tacoma even if the price was the same. Toyota is a great brand but too expensive!
If u don’t plan on doing any extreme off-roading ridgeline is better at everything else maybe except price in getting fixed Honda parts are kind of high compared to Toyota.
I looked at a new Toyota Tacoma and I do not see what all the hype is. I am only 5 ft 6 in tall and could not sit comfortably in the backseat of the larger cab.. Seriously why even have a backseat just have utility space for stuff?? Tacoma is not a real truck it's a play toy. I'd rather have the Honda for the better ride.
Yeah it has a lot to offer. However anyone looking to off road will go for the Tacoma. Some people just like a more rugged vehicle and less of a 'crossover"
@@BrosFOURRSpeed Exactly! And the manual transmission offering from the Tacoma just begs for aftermarket mods for even tougher offroad capabilities. The Ridgeline is for the ocassional offroad and some glamping with capabilities for most rough conditions but not all.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed That's true, but it makes one wonder if the legendary Toyota Japanese reliability (see 4Runner) will be present in the ones made in Mexico. I am dubious and note that I am not even commenting on the turbo 4 in the Tacoma now (and others) versus the 20-year-old well tested J35 V6 in the Ridgeline. I still like to pay for things made in the USA over those from other countries. Not saying it is necessarily bad that it's from Mexico but there have been some problems with Mavericks and other vehicles. Time will tell in future years. Just buy whatever you like, it's not a war.
@@BrosFOURRSpeeddude, you don’t know what you’re talking about, tacos have an optional 6 ft bed it’s longer but not larger , 4x8 plywood doesn’t sit flat on the bed of the Tacoma..
@@Anthony-tr4bh how many people need that to be flat in the bed? Not really something common people are hauling so why does that matter? I owned two Tacomas, I know them well.
I was a carpenter for thirty years and there is NO way I would buy a pickup that you can’t fit drywall for instance between the wheel wells, it would be worthless to me btw the Honda bed is 5’4”” long
Very few truck owners offroad them regardless of big wheels with rubber band tires to carrying any overland bro equipment..maybe make a cheesy video about their trucks.
It certainly has a lot going for it. One of our friends dads is buying one. It's a nice SUV with the utility of a bed. However for people looking for more of an off road focused truck, Ridgline isn't that
@@BrosFOURRSpeed I’ve been on actual off-roading courses and I never seen someone come out with their new truck/suv. It’s always something beat up or tuned/modified for off road usage.
Tacoma owner comparing Tacoma and Ridgeline. 90% of truck owners wouldn't need all that "truck" 90% of the time if they were honest with themselves. Oh, and where I'm at, TRD PRO will cost you at least $10k more.
Just depends on what the owners wants. I would buy a Tacoma like I have all day over a Ridgeline. No I don’t go off-roading as much as I would like but enjoy the truck way more. Just depends on the person and what will make the happy driving down the road.
I love my 2020 Honda Ridgeline I can fit myself and four kids in it just fine plenty of room and super smooth and comfy I have the rtle and I love it
@nealjani8919 Ridgeline has a significantly bigger interior than the Tacoma.
Lets be real a majority of taco owners do not off road their trucks.
True, most offroad focused vehicles stay on the pavement.
@@TheGame-zd5cj I took my brand new Tacoma with 500 miles offroad!
Don’t wanna get it dirty
I have taken every vehicle I have ever owned off road, cars and trucks. The more off road capable the vehicle just gives you more security off road and where you can go. Even more important is on road snow capability the better off road the better it will do with road snow. I have driven my 4x4 Dodge Ram through snow that was 3-4 feet deep.
Yea I’m a toco owne
In 2020, just on looks and capability, I was deadset on a taco, either off-road or pro. Drove em both, meh. Went to honda to see what they’d give me for my old car, drove a ridge line, fell in love. Best vehicle I’ve ever owned.
Glad you enjoy it!
Glad you enjoy it!

Glad you enjoy it.
seat comfort, tailgate hinge, bed trunk & paddle shifters(!) tip the scales for the Ridgeline.
Glad you enjoy it, I could never buy one.
You missed the power outlet in the bed of the Ridgeline, right rear corner behind a access panel
Oh gotcha. Nice to have for sure
Ridgeline is 2x capable of what most truck owners actually need. The Tacoma only satisfies 1/2 the ego demands of most truck owners.
I would highly disagree with that logic, where did you come up with that!
But if you want to enjoy the Ridgeline great,
I personally couldn’t buy one over a Tacoma.
I believe most Tacoma owners would buy a Ridgeline instead if they only gave it chance and took it for a test drive.

Say you want to go somewhere with more than two adults? Who’s riding in the back? The utility of the Tacoma bed is also driving me away…. Say the Ridgeline isn’t a real truck, but what are you fitting in the back of a Tacoma?
The honda had way more room, comfortable drive and made for city life. Taco is more for country life off road and shorter people.
Had both vehicles. Would have to agree.

Didn't mention the bed floor being almost flat on the Honda. That's huge!
Yeah that's a cool touch for sure!
Crazy.

what do you call for the color of tacoma? is it nardo gray or stealth gray, or what? Thanks
I believe it was Cement Gray. Should all be listed on Toyota's website if they still have 3rd gen info
I’d pick the Tacoma over it all day! Just depends on what works best for the buyer.
Taco: Proper lookin truck. Tows more
RL: Smoothest ride & more spacious cab
No significant difference in payload
Yeah they each have some good aspects!
@BrosFOURRSpeed Appreciate the time & effort making the vid! Plenty of useful knowledge here. All the best 🤘
Glad you liked it!
Switched to a Ridgeline from a Tacoma. Tacoma needs some major upgrades. Ridgeline is far more better...luxury, smooth, strong, and fast!
Thanks for sharing! Check out the 4th gen! I still would have taken the 3rd gen over a Ridgeline, but glad you enjoy it!
Agreed. The Tacoma is for newbies. It's a gardener's truck. They'll find out what they want and and need out of a truck is a Ridgeline.
@@tonyllaguno4845 I would disagree with that 100%, not sure how you came up with that perspective. I’d go Tacoma all day..
@@BrosFOURRSpeed I owned both. I thought Tacoma was decent until I drove the Ridgeline. It's night n day. People just need to give the RL a chance.
Anyone know how hard it is to disable the cylinder deactivation at low load on the ridge line
I don’t think there was a button for that, can’t remember.
It’s been a year but if you still have your Ridgeline search vzmuzzler.
Also Honda should have a 6’ bed option…
Add the Traxda lift to the Ridgeline. That's what I did.
What happened to the light off-roading?
What do you mean? Can’t offroad dealer vehicles.
Thanks for the informative review. Thanks as well to those who made their comments. I am not looking at going off road or towing. Just a bed for some garden tools and probably moving kids stuff in and out of college dorms. Might think of getting a ridgeline. 😊
tacoma have a removable bed which means you can put a flatbed on it
You sure could if you really needed to, not too many tacoma owners doing that.
Ridgeline love the quiet love the truck bed speakers and huge hidden ice chest plus the 120 electric outlet and wider larger tires
Glad you enjoy it!
I want to know where you can find a 2023 TRD Pro for $45,000?
Find a dealer who sells for MSRP, my dealer does.
I agree, that Toyota is like 10 grand more than the rl. Where is the leather and moonroof?
The passport, ridgeline and pilot all look the same in the front.
thanks for sharing.
is the oil filter still located near the wheel?
Not sure lol. I wasn’t looking for that while filming!
ill choose tacoma 100% too many buttons on Ridgeline the tire looks nice in tacoma and higher
This is not even a fair comparison at all… you’re really gonna put the Ridgeline against the Tacoma TRD Pro which is purpose built for off roading? 🤷🏻♂️ you’re comparing apples to oranges.
Like we said in the video, we weren’t comparing trim levels, we were comparing the model, Tacoma vs Ridgeline, only two models we had for the video..
Trying to get those two together would be difficult. They aren’t in the same class so what comparison would you want to see? Midsize VS full size.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed
Thank you for your quick response!
I have three kids car seats in the back, no problem . 2021 Ridgeline
The Ridge also has power in the bed. Just an update for you.
RTL-E and Black Edition have power.
Majority of Tacoma owner buy it used it for liable and resale value. On other hand ridgeline is the most daily user and appreciate it.
I bought a brand new 2017 Tacoma and sold it this year for more than I paid! It’s not just used ones that hold value! The Tacoma in general does!
so now thinking of trading my tacoma for a ridgeline .
Great video…
Glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent video 🚀 thank you
Glad you liked it!
I believe the Ridgeline bed is 5'4" long, not 5'.
That’s a great thing, u don’t see everyone wearing the same shoes!
Great comparison
Thanks!
was watching this video while sitting here in honda waiting for my car to be done in service..

@@gregoryhassett2813 Any vehicle that is exposed to salt on the roads and snow will have some kind of rust, it’s just the environment.

I think the Honda Ridgeline would probably satisfy most peoples requirements. Most people don’t offer their vehicles.
It's a cool option, just depends on what will work best!

Price… Tacoma is touching 50k or better for trd prow
The Ridgeline is way better off-road than the Taco TRD Pro & everybody agrees with me!
Funny joke lol! It can’t compete at all!
It is not meant for serious off-roading
Taco hay wagon with an engine, I.e. body on frame. Minivan with a bed, Ridgeline? modern and comfortable. No comparison because very few people take the truck out of the Walmart parking lot. Just saying.
More people offroad Tacomas than you think! Was just at an over landing expo where there were hundreds of tacos!
The Ridgeline is just a better looking truck hands down.
Whatever works for you
Tacoma, Honda transmissions are utter garbage. I had a 2019 Ridgeline and the transmission broke at around 48k mi, and the plastic actuators in the tailgate are flimsy... and that's not even doing 'truck-stuff'.
Oh wow! Yeah our friend has a brand new Civic. And about 40k miles his transmission is having lots of issues. You'd think Honda was bulletproof
Great when the Honda trunk fills up with water and ruins all your stuff. Then the transmission torc converter fails and cost $5000
That’s why it has a seal! It’s waterproof! But you had those issues with those?
It would be nice if the Dept of Motor Vehicles considered the Ridgeline a Minivan just like the Bros FOUR Speed wise guy does, it would be a lot cheaper to register it. Just because it doesn't have a full body frame it doesn't mean it's not capable. That bell housing on the Taco drags lower than any part on the Ridgeline.
That wouldn’t effect registration at all lol, but it’s definitely not as capable as a stock Tacoma.
Interesting! I had a 17 OR as well! Really liked it! Going with the 4th gen next, but if that works for you!
The Ridgeline has a payload of 1,500, TRD pro is 1,600 so Tacoma has a higher capacity. And the speaker system is cool.

The Ridgeline fully covers the needs of 95% of truck users. The other 5% do really need a Tacoma.
