I bought a 2022 Honda Ridgeline Black Edition I love the spacious cab and the utility of the vehicle. It’s smooth and quiet. It’s a great daily driver when navigating in today’s parking lots. I see myself keeping the Ridgeline for many many years.

@@cs1992I just bought a 2023 RTL-E last week. I immediately drove 400 miles straight and got 28.6 mpg (if the computer is accurate). I was in eco mode with the adaptive cruise on, tracking semi trailers between North Carolina and Florida on flat I-95. So that’s probably the most it will ever get.

Not sure why reviewers compare these 2 vehicles. One is a city truck and one is more of an off roader. I think if I was in the mountains or want to look cool Tacoma. If I want to cruise around the city with small jobs or be comfortable Ridgeline. I think they are both great it just depends what you are looking for.

    • @GBcommander
      @GBcommander Год назад +2

I'd say it's fair to compare them because most people who buy trucks don't actually use them for their intended purpose. Ridgeline would be perfect for the vast majority of truck drivers.

Exactly, "better" is relative. I bought a 2023 Ridgeline, I think it's a better fit for me. I'm not expecting the Ridgeline to be better at off-roading.

Ridgeline for that w. Not sure why alot of people hate the unibody, pretty sure if given the chance between a chevy avalanche or cadillac escalade ext they will still say it ain't a truck. Manufacturer put it out as a truck the title from the dmv says its a truck then I'm pretty sure it's a truck.

I have a Ridgeline and it’s great. I wouldn’t go off Roading with either truck. anybody that takes a 50,000+ unit off road where I go with my ATV you’re gonna need a paint job after you come back. and by the way, the ATV will out perform both trucks, and if I get stuck ATV weighs 1000 pounds the truck weighs 5000 pounds good luck getting that out.

For nearly everything an average truck does, the Ridgeline is not only better, it’s far superior. For off road, the Tacoma is way better. RL has no low range and is basically a car. But again, for most people, the RL will make them happier. RL: lockable waterproof trunk, bed speakers, way better ride and handling, way better interior space, better MPG, way better in inclement weather (AWD vs on demand part time 4wd in the Taco).

What “truck” thing can taco do, that ridgeline can’t? Taco is great but it’s really just resale value and reputation at this point. Most people doing “truck” things could just get a 1500 RAM other than resale.

Personally I like the feel of a truck I like the handling of the truck I put a tonneau cover on mine so my whole bed is waterproof + tweeker resistant lol. I'm personally not into having my truck handle like a car. & the reason I bought the Tacoma over any other 🛻💨 is because it's the truck that feels the most old-skool like a truck, but for most of the pussies nowadays yeah I would say the Ridgeline would make them happy 😁

If you can, wait for the next generation, which hopefully comes out in a year or two. It should come with the proven honda 10 speed transmission but with a new engine. The most current model that had a face-lift along with the 9speed tranny is more reliable than the older 2017-19 that has the 6 speed. Also, the infotainment is trash/ancient. I've seen better infotainment from 10yrs ago and I'm not even into that stuff. I had a Tacoma and I choose the Ridgeline anyday.

I went out one Saturday morning to find and buy a nice low mileage Tacoma. After test driving a fine Taco at the dealer, I parked next to a Ridgeline, which I really hadn't considered before. I said to the sales lady, "what the hell, let me drive this one." An hour later I took the Ridgeline home. Except for the rock crawling, which I never do, there's no real comparison. The Ridgeline is faster, handles way better, rides way better and has tons more cab room. Oh, and I regularly get 28 mpg on the highway too. Throw in the 500 lbs. of extra payload and the "trunk" and you'll never look back. And your backseat passengers will thank you.

I just got a 23 Ridgeline and really wanted a Tacoma until I drove both. Toyota is driving up their Tacoma's with BS like the XP Predator package, which is $3,200 for fluff. RTL comes well equipped and doesn't have a ton of packages or options. Drives much better daily than the Tacoma and it was a great lease deal where the RTL-E had a payment much lower than an SR Tacoma.

    • @richardhouvener6423

Don't forget the extra "market adjustments" or worthless "protective film" packages that the dealers use to jack the OTD prices by 10 to 20%. I have seen 4 Toyota dealers near me within driving distance doing this and NO Honda dealers doing it. I have bought 5 new and 1 used Toyotas over the years but their take it or leave it attitude will keep me off their lots from now on. I don't need to rock crawl and the Ridge looks pretty good to me especially considering how uncomfortable the Tacoma is for my body. I have a 2014 F150 that has been good to me, so I am used to a fair amount of room. The Taco feels way too small, but the Ridge seems very comfortable by comparison. That plus the fact that AWD is way better than part time 4WD on wet/ slippery roads (can't really shift into 4HI very quickly until you are sliding already) because it is on all the time.

Things I want Honda to add or change to the ridge line . Remove button gear system or add an option for a normal gear stick not a manual. Make the ridge line look tougher/ make it look like it can take a beating and more like a pickup truck instead of a suv, but still have that comfort . Add an option for 4h 4l 2 wheel drive for certain model. Maybe add a 2 door cab with a longer bed . And a hybrid model

So the Ridgeline holds more, hauls more, is more comfortable/roomy, rides better on the road. These two seem priced about the same. So the Ridgeline seems the better truck. The Tacoma might be a better toy.
I do like the aesthetics of the dash and controls better in the Toyota.
The Ridgeline was based on the Pilot, which just got a major overhaul. I wonder when that reaches the Ridgeline?

Objevtively speaking, the Ridgeline is the perfect vehicle for 99% of people. Once they update that interior tech to the current generation it'll be a wrap. If you need to tow more, you move up a class size. Nothing in it's class is a better buy. If you want an off roader, realistically the Honda is probably enough for most people but the Taco is the only other truck worth buying in the class.

Unless u r going to be an off roader the Ridgeline Kills it! AWD is on and no buttons. For you 4wd people like I used to be. Beware, there HAS to be slippage before engaging AND u can't go over 55 or less. Of course if u get rid of you 40k vehicles every 4-5 years just tear that transfer case apart and dump it on someone else. Otherwise I love the AWD. U didn't mention the bed in the Ridgeline can fit a 4x4 sheet flat!!

Great job again Ben. In 2021 I bought the Tacoma TRD Pro for someone 6’1” around 250 it was too small and cramped inside. Your legs go out in front of you and your lower back screams in agony in the uncomfortable riding position and poor seat support. My Taco had only a couple hundred miles on it when I stepped up to the Ridgeline. Ridgeline rides and drives like an SUV and the motor has plenty of power while the Taco motor is so loud and feels likes its working very hard. Fuel economy also isn’t even close. My Taco averaged 17 at best while around town my Ridgeline is getting just under 23mpg (22.8). If someone is a serious off-roader and I’d say younger and more tolerant than the Taco with all its aftermarket accessories is great. If you’re like me and over age 65 the Ridgeline is hard to beat. Just my 2 cents having owned both. I have seen some comments here as well with some inaccurate stats regarding bed payload. As I recall the Taco bed capped out around 900lbs while the Ridgeline bed can haul over 1500lbs. The Ridgeline is plenty of truck for most people.

My 2018 Honda Ridgeline had 5 safety recalls, made noises and was in the shop for 10 days and honda couldn't find the source and said just keep driving it it may wear down (which 5,000 miles it did) - also, the 2017-2019 ridgelines have a defect with the engines where fuel injectors are pushed in to far and clog up. Many blogs talk about this and around 50k miles i had to get mine fully replaced because check-engine emission light came on. Lots of folks have this issue. Also the 2017-2019 power train (transmission) is used on the ridgleine/odessy and pilot all have many issues with failing between 50k-70k and it costs about 5k repair. I got rid of my 2018 honda ridgeline this January of 2023 and traded it in for a Mazda. I don't miss it at all, A few weeks after dumping it i got an email of yet another recall regarding tailgate camera. So happy don't have to bring that dang thing back into the shop to waste hours for another warrenty repair. Anyway, Honda Civics and the Honda CRV have different teams and they are reliable, for me the Honda Ridgeline had the most recalls then any vehicle i ever owned and I had zero confidence it was going to last. When I drove it all i kept thing was "what's the next thing to go wrong". I am so happy i got rid of it, and not ever buying another Honda again, it was a painful experience.
My first 100 miles on the truck it made all types of noises, honda couldn't figure out the source, it was in the shop 4x and one time they kept it for 10 days. I tried to file lemon law but honda wouldn't budge, i offered to pay for taxes fees and just give me another and call it a day and they wouldn't do it. Lemon law does jack crap if you end up with one. I hated this truck and would never recommend it nor Honda as they don't stand behind their product.

Tacoma. Honda hasn't been able to couple a decent automatic transmission to a V6 for like... 20 years. The Honda is better in any other way, except where it really matters. Even though the Ridgeline has a tow-rating of 5k, I would never trust it to tow anything above 3.5k for long trips, and if your towing something, more often than not, it's on a long trip.
I have a '19 Ridgeline, it's a love-hate relationship. It has the well-known transmission 'shudder' issue. It has less than 40k miles. The tailgate has been a maintenance hassle too... flimsy plastic actuators break/slip.
