It’s been a tradition watching Planes, Trains, and Automobiles in November. I think the movie is the best John Hughes movie of all time. John and Steve was a good combination for the movie. It would never be the same without them.
Sounds like a wonderful tradition! We agree it is probably the best John Hughes movie ever...certainly one of the best for sure! John and Steve were fantastic in this one!!
I worked on this movie and have a ton of stories and some great pics. I was one of the camera crew and listed in the 2nd Unit credits. Check out the Sun Motel (formerly the Braidwood Inn, and infamous "those aren't 2 pillows" scene. It is located off 55 freeway in Braidwood, IL.
Great video about one of my favorites. A lot of this movie was filmed in western New York too; Hughes was chasing snow between there and Chicago. The diner scene was filmed in what is now Olympia restaurant in Gowanda NY. The scene where the train broke down was filmed near Gowanda too. The one where they burned up the car was filmed in Route 219, a little North of Springville NY. They closed down the road to do the scene, but some locals thought there was an actual car fire, not a fake one. Good memories!!
Here in the UK we dont have thanksgiving of course but i watch it every year leading up to Christmas. It has such a great festive holiday feel to it. Steve and John were fantastic together. The unlikely pairing of characters Neil and Del was genius. One of my all time favourite movies.
Planes, Train and Automobiles was filmed in 85 days, mostly in Batavia, New York, and South Dayton, New York. A scene that takes place in St. Louis was filmed at Lambert International Airport.
That train stop at the end of the movie, I've stood there waiting for the blue line a hundred times and, at least when I was there, it looked exactly the same.
Glad you enjoyed it! We love the movie of course! Was so much fun seeing these locations all these years later! Thanks for watching and for the wonderful comment!
@@McAndrewTravels Yeah here is an old article in the local news paper I found about the filming of the movie. Jan. 1, 1986. For five nights next week, the Lemoore countryside will stand in for a wintry Midwest setting during outdoor filming for Paramount Pictures’ $30 million film “Planes, Trains and Automobiles.” The comedy stars John Candy and Steve Martin. Each evening at 6:30, the California Highway Patrol will close off Highway 198 between Highway 41 and the Avenal cut-off in order for the 75-80 person film production crew’s activities to be uninterrupted by regular traffic. The CHP will reopen 198 to regular traffic at 7 a.m. daily.
Thanks so much for the comment, we love the movie as well!! We did find the Braidwood Inn, but unfortunately we completely forgot about it as we were leaving Chicago and we were working on some other stories. By the time we remembered it we were several hours away so that was a huge bummer!!!
Read the book, “Come and Get Your Love,” take a trip to Fresno, CA, and then document the various locations pertinent to Pat and Lolly Vegas of Redbone. I think you’ll get a lot of interest in that.
@@McAndrewTravels I wrote the Redbone memoirs. There are specific addresses listed for historical purposes. They should get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame soon. I always wanted to do this but have not the time. Your efforts would be greatly appreciated by millions of Redbone fans worldwide, including Pat Vegas himself.

Great Thanksgiving tradition! Fantastic movie! Thanks for watching our video and commenting...we appreciate it!
Has it been that many years? oh man
@@leashesoff2288 Crazy!!
I just watched a blu-ray special feature of the movie and Steve Martin said that filming the hotel bathroom scene was daunting because it was so nasty
This is great, I just watched the movie couple nights ago as part of my annual Thanksgiving tradition. Amazing the motel hasn't changed.
It really is amazing! Thanks for watching!
Very well done!

Love this film. The bit where John Candy briefly becomes the devil is one of the greatest scenes ever.

It is located in Braidwood, Illinois. It is a very small town southeast of Chicago.
Meant to say southwest.🙂
@@jacksovitzky8804 Thanks for the info...sorry we missed that spot...maybe one day!!
It is now called the sun motel, in Braidwood Illinois, it's at the Reed rd exit off of I 55 approximately 20 miles south of Joliet.

Wow, what a beautiful woman. Nice job also. I live in Western New York where some of the other scenes were shot.
Thank you John!
Another top movie.
We love this one as well...especially around Thanksgiving!
I really hope you filmed some “Groundhog day” content if you went to Woodstock?
Yes sir... right on over here - ruclips.net/video/_gw3gEJiiE8/видео.html
Sweet video guys!
Thanks danm!
I always thought the house was the same one from Home Alone, they do look similar even though it's not the same house.
I’ve probably seen P,T&A more than any movie.
No cable, no satellite and one vhs tape when I was a teenager.
Not a bad movie to be stuck with lol!
Why is this movie so awesome?
well shes just beautiful :)
Thank you!
If you look on google earth those lamp-posts are still there in 2018. They were real but must have been taken down recently.
Thanks!
What I would want to ask the guy staying in room 6 where the movie was filmed is if that framed picture of Roy Orbison is still there.
I want the two Jeep that were in the hotels parking lot 😱

She's short and skinny, but she's strong! LOL
Her first baby; Come out siiideways! She didn't scream or nothin'!
"I'm Owen! [Snort!] You the shower curtain fellow?"
Steve's expression when Owen shakes His hand after spitting and wiping His mouth... Classic!
😂
Is the house at the end also in Woodstock?
It is actually in Kenilworth, Illinois.
I pass by the hotel everyday on my way home from work
Very cool!
The way he talks reminds me of Robin Williams
lol! Never heard that before!
Just think if we had cellphones back then it would have made the move impossible to make.A cell phone would have destroyed the plot line.
Good point!

"How the hell are you doing?" "a million short to be a millionaire"
Shower curtain rings.
LOL!! Love the part where he claims he paid for the room with shower curtain rings ahaha!!
Interesting video, perhaps bring the good looking one into the foreground more often, and get rid of the sponsored clothing.
