I belonged to a general baptist church a couple years ago. It was a very small church, about 100 or less on a weekly basis. It wasn’t really feeding me spiritually, I enjoyed the sermons, the hymn singing, (we were singing traditional songs from hymn books-I really enjoyed that), the Sunday school was lacking because it was led by people who didn’t have any biblical knowledge. I am a studier. I love love love the word of God. So therefore, my biblical knowledge surpassed that of leaders at the church. It was frustrating to me but I continued attending, I had become attached to most of the people there. Then the pastor left suddenly. Just announced one Sunday he was done. Blew my mind. What true pastor of God just walks out? No real explanation. But then I do not know what may have been going on behind the scenes. I remind myself to try to not be harsh about him. I just know I felt very hurt. He had just baptized my son several months prior. My son was about 3rd or 4th grade. So he was young. Anyway, the church started the process of replacing the pastor. Oh my, I had no idea that so many people had “the calling”. They finally settled on an older man whose wife could play piano and sing. They started all going forward to receive the Holy Spirit. Started speaking in tongues and interpreting. The new pastor even chided me after a service for not interpreting one day, He said the spirit told him I was the interpreter. 🤷‍♀️ I figured that the Spirit should have told me then. At first, I felt as though I should try to get the spirit. Even though I knew biblically that tongues, and the supernatural stuff etc were not for the purpose they were declaring it all for. I could sit through a whole service and ask God to let his spirit guide me, lead me, give me tongues... I thought, surely as much as I study if He were to allow someone to speak in tongues, He’d choose me. I loved Him just as much as everyone else. Why would He leave me out? But not one single nudge. I sat there week after week, watching people begin to “fall out”. Jibber jabber. Jump up and down. And these people I had known for 3 years, were all suddenly acting strange. They would stand up in the middle of the sermon , interrupting the pastor because they had been “led” to witness to us. They were getting rid of demons all of a sudden. I left the church. I haven’t sought out another yet. It’s been several years. I listen on line now, and Podcasts. John MacArthur, Adrian Rogers, Justin peters, Steve Proctor, Steve Gaines (I also like Polite Leader for guidance). I listen a lot. Morning, night, driving, going to sleep. Daily. I appreciate the people who are willing to share the truth. I am very thankful for this series. It validates my experience. God was not speaking to me through any Avenue other than His Word, it wasn’t Him rejecting me, it wasn’t that I wasn’t spiritual enough, I wasn’t displeasing Him in any way, I didn’t have a bunch of hidden sin in my life, I wasn’t breathing wrong, ( the pastors wife took me aside one time to give me Holy Ghost lessons. She placed her hands on my abdomen and told me to raise my arms, then I was to call down and invite the Holy Spirit into me, she said it starts in the gut, rises up from there to the mouth, to just open my mouth and let the Holy Spirit start speaking. I was a dud. Nothing came out of me.) I DID then, and I DO still, belong to God.

I'm also saved by grace and baptized in a baptist church...have been drawn into charismatic groups and have many friends who speak in tongues, think they are prophetic, healers or have word of knowledge. I have asked but still don't speak in tongues. After these same started being political idolizing Trump and supporting his most dishonest brutal acts including Jan 6 I have decided they are deceived by false prophets and wolves in sheep's clothing like Paula White, Kat Kerr, Benny Hinn and Lance Walnau plus their own pastors...

Not only can it be received as a personal attack, it can be earth shattering for some folks who have for decades leaned on this "voice" for their entire spiritual lives. It is a HUGE pill to swallow so if you know someone like that, I think it's wise to be gentle realizing that their entire spiritual identity might be wrapped up into this belief.

Justin is such a voice of truth for so many, but at the same time it’s so amazing to see that he allows himself to have accountability under his pastor. So often Christians put pastors and leaders like Justin, John MacArthur, Steve Lawson and others on a pedestal and that’s not how we should see these men of God. There is church accountability and no man is above reproach. I love that Justin is humbled and here with his pastor!

Thank you so much! I am a fairly new Christian and I have heard people say they are led by the Spirit or got a revelation from God while reading scripture or even that a person felt they were one of God's favorites or you're not getting it ... You're not spiritual enough. All of those statements, among others, HAVE caused me to stumble or to take pause and to feel inadequate as a Christian. I cried for weeks because I wasn't spiritual enough. Honestly, I don't even know what that means, but I was already questioning my salvation and then that hit me, it almost ruined me because I lacked fact checking and reliance on the Holy Scriptures. I was so distraught I thought about just turning back to my sinful ways. Can you imagine? Sound expository teaching and a dear Christian friend with more biblical wisdom than I, brought me back to the Word and reminded me who I was in Christ. But God ... His forgiveness is immeasurable and I finally got through that trial/tribulation by His grace and mercy and His glorious Word and am back on track. Your teachings and John MacArthur's have taught me so much about justification and sanctification and the importance of discernment, SO THAT I MAY NOT SIN. I also threw away my recent gift of a Sarah Young devotional thanks to y'all. Two weeks before I heard you and MacArthur speak about her in some old sermons, I just stopped reading it. I don't know why I stopped but am so thankful I did. Then I learned she listens to God with pen-in-hand. That is so creepy, it makes me think that she has fallen for the devil's big deception ... What appears to be trivial to a junior Christian can really wreck them! How can a person prove a voice if from God? They can't! It is disturbing in that they are trusting in something other than relying on faith in the one true God. I am much more careful in the use of my words and interpretation of scripture thanks to your teaching. Thank you and may God bless you always.

Yes- this "hearing God" thing is a slippery slope. I've seen it, and before you know it, it's interesting how many of these people don't hear "God" talking about repentance or salvation, but about their worldly, fleshly desires. If people would just think a little more critically, they'd have a chance to understand the truth.

It’s actually very liberating to realise that you’re not odd or lacking in any way because you haven’t received some special message through any means other than scripture. Obviously we can’t limit God or his means but after reading the book I realise that the more I read scripture the less likely I am to even want to look for signs, messages or promptings because the wisdom imparted IS how God speaks and equips me to make decisions.

feeding themselves; waterless clouds, swept along by winds; fruitless trees in late autumn, twice

Amen, I've always believed since being saved at 15 and I am now 60 years old that the Word of God (the Bible) is God's voice to us and it is sufficient for all that we need in this life, lacking nothing. Human experiences cannot be substitutes for the Word. Our experiences may help us and increase our faith to some extent but they are not the Gospel. Nothing replaces the Word, the Holy Scriptures is God's voice to us as believers. I really enjoy your videos and Bible study online here, great stuff. Be blessed in Jesus name.

So...as a baby Christian, I experienced some of these things over a period of about 3 years (1999-2002). The still small voice I heard was male, only in my mind, and spoke one single word: 'Colossians' the first time, and 'No' the second. The first time, I had literally asked the Lord what He wanted me to read. The second time I was about to say "I do". I absolutely saw Scripture turn bold while reading it while the rest of the page blurred, and money not leaving my bank account even though I had spent it and was updating my checkbook (a Christian friend had the exact same experience at the same time in a different home), and finally a demonic appearance in the face of a church member; another church member had seen the same thing in this woman and steered clear of her). That was the last 'event' I have experienced thus far in my Christian walk. Never once have I thought of Scripture as insufficient, nor have I viewed the Holy Spirit as insignificant. These experiences have many times comforted and reassured me as well as reminded me that God is real when doubts overcame me. I have never visited heaven by cable car, God has never told me where to have lunch or what to buy for dinner, or any of those types of things. We do not converse as Beth Moore, Jesse Duplantis, and many others say they do. I believe Scripture is inerrant, inspired, and truly the word of the one true and living God. It is nearly impossible for me to think of my experiences as having never happened. I'd love to hear your thoughts, Justin and Jim. Thanks!

    • @emilyf5596
      @emilyf5596 2 года назад +2

If I would be allowed to have my input, I would like to say that the thing is it's not the voice of God. As Justin and Jim say, some circumstances are your conscience. Your conscience can think of really unexpected things that are God-given, but that are not God's voice. He is not the One speaking to you, but He is the One who put that thought there. Sometimes we hear voices that are random voices and not specifically our own, like Siri in your head, and that could be an explanation. Again, I'm not explaining things away, but I have experienced a couple of situations like that in the beginning and I honestly think it is God-led but is not His Voice. God put your conscience into place, and when it is not corrupt it will guide you towards what He desires.
I'm not sure myself about how those things get into our heads, but the point Justin, Jim and I are making is that it is not the Voice of God, but His influence. I hope that helps! Much love and God bless.

After being so into the 'naturally supernatural 'teachings and movements here in UK (Mike Pilavachi, Vineard churches etc) even done ' supernatural disciples' course in the church I used to go.. started 'practising hearing from God, the still small voice , now I can see how unwise this all was, and gave me more doubts and confusion than guidance from God in my life! I am so grateful, that I came across Justin Peters videos on you tube after talking to my friend about Hillsong music and Joel Osteen and Joyce Mayer etc that there is something wrong with these people... now I can see the deception I was following, thinking that this is the way to serve God, and share gospel with others through divine revelation and God telling me something about someone that only He could possibly know - prophetic evangelism, and miracles, signs, and wonders etc like if the gospel itself wasn't enough or lost its power!

The way I understand you, the bible is the primary source through which He guids us. In very Special cases god is able to speak through other ways to us. These are rare not to expect Are extra, extra ordinary. Only by Te outcome you can determin if they are from god or not. Additionaly they must always honour/Direct to god. The same way miracles should primarily make us and unbelievers aware of the suppernatural Power of and direct us to the salvation through Jesus.
Most of the time it is our heart that gives us a hunch and not the holy spirit.
I hope this is clear and not confusing.

Holy Spirit uses God's word to convict us ... yes God speaks through His inspired Word and we should dwell in it....

There's an 'elephant' in the room at the heart of people believing they hear God speak to them; it's the need to have their faith validated in a way that shows themselves special and connected. This need is fed and promoted by false doctrines, and there are likely few who can admit this.
There is a second obvious issue being that people want to be TOLD what to do. In the case of someone who truly loves Jesus, it is understandable that they don't want to err in His sight, but Faith in The Word requires humble souls to walk in absolute, surrendered trust that the Holy Spirit is guiding our steps - WITHOUT expecting God to speak to us outside of scripture.
My Heavenly Father can do ANYTHING ... and, while I hold fast to the promise of Sola Fide, I have no expectations - because all I deserve is death.
Watching and praying without ceasing... MARANATHA!

Expectations are literally what faith is. You don’t hear because you openly admit you don’t have faith for it.
Also, it’s a matter of _your own_ pride that you assume everyone who hears from God just wants to feel special and have their faith validated.
Wrong. They hear from God precisely _because_ their faith is already valid and they are already humble

I praise & glorify God for blessing us with good men like Justin. I know he would shy away from compliments because he is so humble. I wanted to share a bit of my testimony because it relates to this subject. Growing up I was very broken, distressed, & lived with a deep aching weariness & desired nothing more than to truly know God. You see, I grew up in hyper charismatic/NAR churches. I have always known God is real, I have always believed in Him, loved Him, desperately desired a relationship with Him. From a very early age I began to realize that something wasn’t right & was positive that it was me, this feeling continued to escalate & truly grieve me throughout my life. I would look around & see that God was speaking to everyone except me. They could all pray in tongues & I couldn’t, they were experiencing all these signs, seeing angels & walking in the miraculous; while I seemed to only be able to watch & was vacant of any such ability. I was too ashamed to speak up, rather was silently was fighting this battle within myself. I would cry myself to sleep, pleading with God. I needed Him, longed for Him, & began to feel as though there was something so awfully wicked or wrong with me that made it to where He couldn’t or wouldn’t love me. I didn’t understand as I was told it was a free gift to all who asked. In my heart I knew I was wretched so I began to feel I was beyond hope. As I grew older the ache became bitterness & from bitterness to a deep anger. I was so jealous of others relationship with Jesus I could almost taste it & could no longer take it. I walked away from the church. I considered atheism & agnosticism but I always knew God was God & couldn’t shake that. I even looked into other religions but they held nothing of substance in my opinion & only made me feel worse because I knew they were not true. My next bright idea was to push down & try to ignore all thoughts of God. Needless to say it was a ridiculously flawed plan of action. As time passed I realized I couldn’t suppress the yearning to know God. I decided to come clean & talk to my family about what was happening. They proceeded to tell me that I was either demonically oppressed or possessed & scheduled me an exorcism. I’m not kidding, it was very traumatic & absolutely terrifying. I went through with it & thought perhaps this was the answer, this was what was holding me back. I was surrounded by church members & loved ones screaming at me in tongues & praying, pushing & shaking me, commanding me to cough & attempt to vomit up the demons, telling me I was bound by generational curses & had a rebellious spirit. As a “sign” it had worked they told me I had one leg shorter than the other & attempted to convince me God lengthened one of my legs so I could walk straight & upright physically & spiritually now. I so badly wanted this to work that I don’t even have the words to express my anguish. When I realized nothing was different & despite all their labors to teach me to pray in “tongues” & be “spiritual” had come to no avail I wanted to give up even more. Distraught doesn’t even begin to describe it. Finally I decided I had to quit listening to everyone & go off on my own. I began to research & discovered a teaching that would forever change my life. I saw Justin Peter’s Clouds Without Water. I watched in tears with my mouth agape & heart pounding. From there I found John MacArthur’s Charismatic Chaos. I would never read scripture the same again. I could almost feel the shackles fall off of me. I didn’t read with the sort of eisegesis I had been taught rather learned about exegesis & letting scripture define scripture. I’ve sense spent years in study & getting to know who God truly is & what he actually says! I have a strong faith & relationship with my savior that I had always longed for & it’s so very real. It isn’t based on what He can do for me but rather how I can serve Him! I have a respect & reverence for Him that I wouldn’t have understood before. I truly believe of all of the many blessings God has given me, Justin’s teachings are one of them. I felt as if he were speaking directly to me, as if he had heard all my questions & was sharing the answer. I know God was speaking to me, not audibly but through His word. I feel so deeply grateful to God for His word & for allowing me to come across Justin’s teachings. It is the most valuable, priceless gift that I wasn’t worthy of & could never repay. Justin & his family will always hold a treasured place in my heart & be in my prayers. He has been beyond a precious blessing. Every time I hear him say dear friend, I think that’s me! I love him as a dear friend, a beloved brother in Christ, & a cherished blessing. If you’re reading this & you are in my old shoes so to speak, don’t be discouraged, & don’t give up on God. Don’t let this world or the wicked in it sway you from seeking Him in spirit & truth. His word says if you knock, He will answer. Keep knocking! If you are going through this & need a friend, please reach out to me. It would be an honor to help in any way I can. Justin, dear friend, if you’re reading this by chance, thank you. I wish I had more eloquent words or a way to more elaborately express my gratitude for the awesome gift your labors have given me. It’s truly an honor & blessing to be taught by such a God fearing, humble, loving man. I pray I can take what I’ve learned from you & pass it along to others so that they may also be so blessed! May the grace and peace of Christ be with you all, always!

If God does not communicate w/ us outside of the Bible, what fellowship w/ the HS are you referring to?

Your answer is like 2 verses before. I mean does God need to "talk" audibly to me so I can love my brothers and sisters in Christ for example? I believe in what Jesus did on the cross and I believe that the Holy Spirit lives in me, that is fellowship, what else could I want?

    • @princeamoakwa4057
      @princeamoakwa4057 3 года назад

The fellowship of the Holy Spirit is His being within and with the Christian personally and the Church as a whole. It doesn’t mean He’ll speak to you every minute or at all as a Christian (aside Scripture).
Do you always “feel” the love of God? Have you had tough trials personally? Did you feel the love of God? Did it look like God loved you in that moment? I bet it didn’t. Does that mean God didn’t love you? No!
In moments of great weakness do you always feel or are you always aware or do you readily observe the grace of Jesus? Does it mean it’s not there?
The Lord’s grace, God’s love & the Holy Spirit’s fellowship do not mean you’ll personally have some supernatural experience(s). The grace was shown and given in Christ. The love of God was shown and given in Christ’s death. The fellowship of the Holy Spirit is what Christians have in COMMON (mutually) because of the death and resurrection of Christ.
Jesus never promised that the Holy Spirit will speak to Christians or give them visions. That was a promise to the Apostles and it was not even frequent. They needed that special ability to exegete or rightly explain the life and words of Jesus so we can learn from it and receive salvation by belief and obedience.

I have just completed this series of videos - which, imho is nothing more than a 3-hr commercial to sell a friend's book. I love Justin and most of his teachings. I have supported his ministry and others he has recommeded/mentioned through time. However, I can not, and will not believe God has stopped leading my path - daily. Both through His Word and through the Holy Spirits guidance. I'm 68, became a born again christian at about age 10. Have studied, read, taken courses, gone to church, sat under some great theologians and mighty men of God. But, never before heard ONE of them say they were not "led" by the "inner voice"/"whisper"/"call of God"/ etc... Whatever you want to call it ... it's that wee small voice that calls us to Him and guides our path day in and day out. I could not sit and listen to a man preach who didn't believe he was "called" to the ministry.
I actually feel sorry for cessationists. (if I dare use that "emothional word" here) It saddens my soul.
How sad it is to not believe the all-knowing, all-powerfull God still cares for you enough to guide you and even speak to you through the HS. Yes, the Bible is the living word and the only source needed to learn about God and salvation and the Christian walk. BUT, God, through Christ Jesus seeks a one-on-one relationship with us. It's woven throughout his word. You blame others for picking and choosing verses out of context (which they do!! - no argument there) BUT - you also choose to ignore certain portions that do not fit into your own beliefs.
You choose to believe God no longer speaks to us, He no longer performs miracles of healing. You have allowed YOUR personal experiences (not hearing God speak and not receiving a miraculous healing from your handicap) to form your own opinions on how to interpret scripture. Please hear this in LOVE - we ALL do this to one extent or the other.
I suggest the TRUTH is in the vast land that separates WOF/hyper-charismatic group from those who are total cessationists. For me - that is where studying His Word has led me. I find BOTH the miraculous powers still very much active in the modern world - and the ability of the HS to "communicate" (through various means at various times) and lead my every step.
I will not buy a book I do not believe in. I could not listen to a pastor who admits he was not "called" to his ministry. I WILL continue to watch all your videos because I believe you are a Godly man - CALLED into your ministry by the HS! Even if you deny feeing that "nudge" - that "desire" to serve Him, that spiritual "hunger" to reach out to the lost and dying in this world that IS the HS TALKING to you. I pray He will one day reveal His voice and His still active healing power in your life. Just as He has in mine. God Bless!!

Threads, please allow me to respond to several of your points. 1. This was not a 3 hour commercial to sell Jim's book. You should probably know that Jim is not even keeping the money from the book but is rather going to put all of the proceeds into a fund for old, retired missionaries and preachers. I am promoting the book because I agree with the theology and believe that it will be of tremendous help to people who have been made to feel 'less than' because they do not hear God speak to them. 2. You never heard Jim or I say that God does not lead us. In fact, if you will go back and listen again you will hear both of us affirm that God does lead through His word and through His many providences. 3. There is nothing in scripture about a "wee small voice." The difficulty Jim and I have with this method of God speaking is that it simply is not to be found in scripture. It is an entirely new way and a new invention with no biblical basis or precedent. 4. It is very incorrect to say that Jim and I who hold this view (the view of most conservative theologians) believe that God does not "care enough" to guide or speak through the Holy Spirit. Jim and I both affirm Proverbs 3:5-6 and we affirm the verbal, plenary inspiration of the scriptures through God's Holy Spirit. 5. I have never taught that God does not perform miracles of healing. Not only have I never said that, I have taught literally hundreds upon hundreds of times in countries all over the world that He does still heal people today when He chooses to do so. I grow rather weary of people continually saying this about me when I teach the opposite literally every single time I give my seminar on this subject. There are dozens of videos of me on RUclips making this very clear. My personal experience of my handicap has nothing - literally zero - to do with my theology on healing. I affirm God heals people today when it is His sovereign will to do so. I reject "faith healers." My theology that it is not ALWAYS God's will to physically healed is derived from exegesis of scripture. 6. As Jim and I said, it is not the ability of God to do anything. The question is whether or not He is. I hope this helps clarify. Blessings to you.

@@JustinPetersMin I really appreciate the time you took to make your caring response. I hope you see that I just have a hard time with certain doctrines that I just can't completely agree with. I want to understand other points of view and am willing (and have) changed or altered my understandings of certain scriptures. We are in total agreement on the important issues. It's the more minor issues that have separated men/theologians for 2000 years where we disagree. I lean more to Wesley than Calvin. We are on the same page when it comes to the NAR/WOF/New Age movements that are leading so many down the wrong path.

@@JustinPetersMin I have to disagree with you Justin. Where in the Bible does it say that God only heals when it is His will? Every single person that came to Jesus for healing was healed. Read John 5, whosoever entered into the pool after the angel stirred/ disturbed the water was healed of whatever disease s/he had, why didn't God tell others not to jump in the pool because it wasn't His will to heal them? By the stripes of Jesus Christ we were healed, it doesn't say some are healed? I have become a (classic) cessationist, but while I was a continuationist (in truth, restorationist) I always found this argument about adding to the Scriptures utterly unconvincing, to the point of being obtuse. In fact, it kept me in that position longer than it should have, because it seemed to me like the other side doesn't even try to understand the real argument. Yes, if God speaks, then by whatever means He does so will be equally authoritative. That is, IF you in fact know it's Him speaking, and therein lies the rub. With the Scriptures, He has paid a tremendous cost of authorizing them as His own words, with the death and resurrection of Christ. A private revelation would not have that same authorization. So, everyone else is obligated to believe that the Scriptures are in fact God speaking, because He has provided the objective evidence. With a private revelation someone has received, you simply don't know. And that is what would give everyone else the excuse to not believe them, even if it ultimately turned out that God was speaking to that person.
Now, the reason I walked away from the position was ultimately because the general track record of these revelations was consistent with many options, none of which was God actually being in the habit of giving it. In fact, the reliability was the exact opposite of that. But I still see the argument as to why it doesn't rise to the level of Scripture as a coherent argument, that is generally not being responded to, except with flippant slogans.

God does not need to wake anybody up to get them to pray for Bill or anybody in order to do his will. God is not reliant on us getting up and praying in order for him to be sovereign. If you woke up and thought about Bill and prayed for him, it may have been a coincidence or providence - remember God is not reliant on our prayers to act. Our prayers are mainly to change us and draw us closer to him. We have to be careful because there are many things in our lives that are would’ve could’ve should’ve’s and we might go “well why didn’t God orchestrate me to do XYZ that turned out badly, and to choose or to avoid certain things that could’ve happened that I feel would have been better?”
We have got to stop playing judge and jury over how or whether God is acting in our lives and just simply obey God as best we can, repenting every day because we keep sinning and trying to allow Jesus and his Spirit to sanctify ourselves and know that at the end of the day, he will reward us for how we acted in each situation through his words on judgement day

@@lukericker8325 I think God often works through PRAYER, but I don’t think he has to work through prayer. No one prayed when he created the world, and everyone in it. People have come to Christ out of the blue with no one particularly praying for them. I also think that we might be thinking of someone and decide to start praying for them - but it’s not necessarily some supernatural act of God, it’s also how our minds work. Many people have prayed for me and nothing particular has happened out of the ordinary. So we can’t link cause-and-effect so seamlessly like that. We have thoughts. People come to mind. When we go “oh that’s the Holy Spirit speaking to me supernaturally”, we forget that that also happens in the natural.
Otherwise PRAYER becomes a work. Oh I didn’t get XYZ because I forgot to pray about it or I got confident and didn’t think I needed to.
For example I have committed to my career to Christ in 2002 or 2003 - I remember getting on my knees and specifically committing my whole career to the glory of Christ. I have frequently prayed for my whole life that God’s will be done in my life.
In 2005 I had two jobs come my way. I took the first one that was offered to me and later was offered the second one, I had already accepted the first one. The first one took me down the path of extremely abusive and difficult supervisors and work situations. Now do I beat myself up because I don’t remember if I specifically prayed exactly in 2005 for God to open the right door and close the right door? I don’t remember if I did. Probably I did that - I don’t remember. Did God count the prayers I made in 2003 placing my whole career in his hand and the frequent generic prayers that His will be done for my whole life? Or did he go “well, you didn’t specifically pray about that particular situation with two particular jobs and so I didn’t intervene and open one door and close the other and things might have been better if you had”. It becomes work based again.
Prayer changes me. Makes me much more mindful of God in my life. I chat away to God through the day. I am not as good at the marathon prayers as I used to be but I chat away to him.

@@rush7777me7777 I think you have a very poor understanding of scripture, prayer is an essential part of a believer's life. We are admonished to pray without seizing and the Bible says the prayer of a righteous man avails much. Study the life of Jesus and the apostles, let alone the prophets in the old testament. Read 2 Chronicles 7:14, why would God say that if prayer wasn't necessary? Read the Book of Daniel... I can go on and on giving you scriptures where the Bible tells us about the importance of prayer. "you're saying that God created the universe without anyone praying for it..", are you kidding me? There was nobody before the creation except God Himself.

Another good treatment of this subject, albeit coming from a very different perspective, is Garry Friesen and J. Robin Maxson's _Decision Making and the Will of God._ And though I don't think this was an intended result of that book, it got me about 90% of the way to understanding how Calvinism was true.
In a decision-making context (which I recognize isn't the only context Osman is addressing), the fatal flaw with this perspective is that it's an all-or-nothing thing. If you believe that God has a specific plan for your life that you're supposed to learn in order to follow it, that plan must necessarily encompass every single decision you make. Yes, right down to "which pair of socks should I wear?" and "which leg should I put into my pants first?" The practitioner of this view would doubtless object that he only seeks guidance on the important decisions, failing to understand that there are no minor decisions.
This is such a well-known trope in science fiction that it has its own name: the Butterfly Effect. The idea is both simple and obvious--actions have unintended, unforeseen, and unforeseeable consequences. That pair of socks might catch someone's eye and lead to them striking up a conversation, potentially leading to a lifelong friendship, romance, and/or marriage. All of those are clearly major things, but result from such a trivial decision that nobody's going to seek God's direct guidance on it.

I have great respect and a thankful heart towards Justin and all that he teaches with his humble manner. It was his teaching and others at the Strange Fire conference that the Lord used to lead me out of the charismatic movement. I have to admit that whilst this video is well intentioned it does have a number of contradictions and I don't think they help those who are "on the fence" about hearing from God. I do believe it is just that they didn't carefully choose their words and have ended up causing confusion and I think the comments here illustrate that. Perhaps clarifications are needed Justin? Having been involved in the movement that teaches we hear God's audible voice all the time, I think that Justin and Jim are saying that God ordains our steps using many means. To us we would call those circumstances, laying on our heart ( a term Jim did use in the part added at the end) being led by the Spirit, God giving us a sense etc etc but what they are saying , if I've got it right, is that it is God's providential directing of our steps and that biblically our terminology is incorrect. Also that we cannot then say "God said to me" or "I felt the Lord say to me."
Perhaps another video is needed to really get down to the bones of all this and really spell it out. It would seem that it's misunderstanding rather than people not accepting what they say.
BTW perhaps the reason unbelievers also say that they sometimes have a sense about something is because God gives life and takes life. He ordains all circumstances and if everyone had the free reign to run around doing anything they wanted, His plan could not be brought to pass. Everything is subject to Him, is it not? After all He would not allow any of His plans to be thwarted. Just my two pennies worth.

We were taught that the pastor was closer to God this us and even knew the will for us and we weren’t allowed to move away without his approval and and knowing there’s a church he approves of. I was recently praying for people and I saw someone’s name on Facebook and started praying for her and messaged her to love on her she told me that God used me to answer her prayer of him listening to her prayers, is that not from God then?
