  • "Be angry and yet do not sin, don't let the sun go down on your anger" Ephesians 4:26. This means if you have an argument with your spouse, you should kiss and make up before going to bed, right? Well, not so much!

      The most weird thing is - in Most German translations that I found (but one) - it is translated as: If you are angry, then do not sin. Do not let the sun go down upon your anger. Even Luther translates it this way. Only the Elberfelder ( a translation that got its fame for its literal, but hard to read wording) translates it as command.
      It was truly eye opening - I have also never looked at it this way...

    Yea.. i think he means there are times we should be angry, but don't let your anger cause you to sin and dont stay angry, be forgiving.
    That fits the context.

    I've always thought of this, and heard it taught, that it was "don't go to bed angry". Your explanation of this scripture makes perfect sense given the context. Thank you for this wonderful reminder of the seriousness of our pet sins, and our need to put them to DEATH!! God hates sin and so should his children.

    • @67L48
      @67L48 3 года назад +1

      Agreed 100%. I always thought it a strange command to never go to bed angry ... that we should always be compelled to settle up any disputes prior to sleeping. I found that sometimes taking a step back, sleeping, and praying, I could better deal with conflict ... that I could be more understanding and compassionate by waiting a bit. And, so I was at odds with that verse: I felt that there were times I needed to pause yet this verse commanded me to jump straight in and settle up all disputes prior to bedtime. Ugh! This makes a lot more sense, for sure.

      @@showtime5372 I'd encourage you to re-watch the video. It's strongly rooted in the Bible, as are all of Justin Peters' teachings. It's refreshing to listen to true and accurate readings of the Bible. I agree that we all of us need to read our Bibles.

      @Redeemed.of.YHVH.thru.Christ 3 года назад +3

      @@showtime5372, why are you cursing? There’s no need to use vulgar language, and it’s surely not a fruit of the Holy Spirit. What was Jesus angry about when He cleared out the temple and drove out the money changers? They were defiling His Father’s House WITH SIN. Jesus was angry at the SIN being committed. The Bible indeed says we are to be at war with our flesh, at war with sins of the flesh, because our Lord Jesus Christ has commanded us to be Holy as He is Holy, to love righteousness as He loves righteousness, and HATE SIN as He hates sin. A Christian who HATES THEIR SIN will be ever mindful to walk in the Spirit and not in the flesh, so we won’t fulfill the lusts of the flesh. A Christian who loves truth and hates lies will be ever mindful to be truthful in all things. A Christian who hates sexual immorality will not commit sexual immorality themselves. But a Christian who does not hate sin as our Lord Jesus Christ hates sin will not be diligent about crucifying their flesh and not fulfilling the lusts of their flesh, which is exactly what Jesus means for us to do when He says “pick up your cross and follow Me”. He’s talking about daily denying the lusts of the flesh and seeking righteousness instead. We are to strive daily to walk as Jesus walked, and love righteousness and hate sin. Satan cannot gain a stronghold in the life of a born again Christian who hates sin and denies the lusts of their flesh. But a believer who does not hate sin, and does not diligently and daily crucify their flesh and deny the lusts of their flesh, they are open prey for Satan to wreak havoc in their life and build strongholds. So, Justin was spot on biblically with his teaching, as he always is, and you are the one who needs to study your Bible and ask Jesus to help you control your filthy language. It’s not what goes in the mouth that defiles a man. It’s what COMES OUT OF THE MOUTH that defiles a man, because what comes out of your mouth is what is in your heart, Matthew 15:11-20. Jesus said that, you should heed His words, because your vulgar language was uncalled for. Cursing doesn’t convey your message more clearly, and you are typing the words that would come out of your mouth.

    I appreciate the teaching. I would argue that in the context of the passage. Paul is talking about putting off the old man and giving practical instructions for what that looks like. I don't disagree with you Brother Justin, but I believe that the verse can be applied to mean, be angry, but get over it, don't let it fester into sin. The verses preceding this talk about the sins of the tongue such as lying. I believe Paul was saying don't let your anger proceed into sinful words or actions and deal with situation quickly and do not become vengeful.

    Thank you Brother Justin, for the actual meaning of "anger" from the Greek definition with the context of scriptures. I don't know Greek all that well, been learning a bit more any time I watch and listen to your videos and Brother Chris Rosebrough too. This is one of the things I do more than just enjoy learning what the scriptures would actually mean in its original context and from the original languages and their meanings/definitions the scriptures were written before English started in the 4th and 5th centuries. And, how to better understand the scriptures even much clearer when this is done, used in their actual context and defining their correct meanings. Many do take these scriptures from out of context and use them for themselves, instead of of actually go deeper and study for themselves what the scriptures mean and say. God bless you and your family and ministry Brother Justin. I thank our precious Lord Jesus Christ for you and may He also bless you in all you do for Him. 😊🙌📖🕊️💖

    This verse MUST be taken with verse 27 because of how the poetic rhythm is laid out lol I was lost in the sauce forever when trying to figure out what he meant. But. . . then I read verse 27 and it finally made sense. Paul is quoting Psalm 4 and expounds onto it, adding another part to the stanza of the poetic rhythm.
    Here is the scholastic approach, if you are interested and desire to take the time:
    With numbers:
    26 BE ANGRY, AND yet DO NOT SIN; do not let the sun go down on your anger, 27 and do not give the devil an opportunity.
    Without numbers:
    BE ANGRY, AND yet DO NOT SIN; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and do not give the devil an opportunity.
    Poetic diagram:
    A. Be Angry
    B. Do not sin
    A. Do not let the sun go down on your anger
    B. Do not give the devil an opportunity
    A more expository approach:
    A1. The first "A" is simple. Be angry.
    B1. The first "B" throws the conjuction clause in there with, "but, do not sin.
    The second half of the stanza is a reiteration of the first half, with even more emphasis and more strong use of figure of speech to grant a stronger meaning.
    A2. The second "A" carries the same meaning that the first "A" has, but is delivered stronger.
    "Do not let the sun go down on your anger" is a stronger way of saying "be angry."
    B2. In the same way as A2, B2 is a stronger way to say the same as B1. "Do not give the devil an opportunity" carries the same meaning as "do not sin," but it manifests a stronger delivery, especially with the flow of this poetic rhythm.

    wow, you've blown my mind; what an interesting perspective; and it fits with the rest of the Bible's message on sin. I decided to read this passage for myself, since this intrigued me so much. And come to find out, just before that chapter ends, Paul tells us to put away anger. Thanks for this new ammunition in the war against my sin.
