Even Benny Hinn could see he was a false prophet! I heard him say it at his Louisville 2008 crusade. October 2008, I believe it was on the 30th, it was a Thursday, I was 15 years old and I was there...no longer part of the Charismatic movement but at one point was.

Surely, if the story is true(which I personally struggle to believe), the family of the poor kicked lady would have been quite right to have Bentley arrested for serious assault! I know I certainly would if same happened to any relative or good friend of mine. Remember - Todd tells that story and people audibly laugh with him! Very telling still.

I really appreciate this. I always took Gamaliel’s advice at face value and assumed that, since it resulted in the apostles’ release, it was godly advice. But merely observing the Biblical and historical evidence does provide a better lens for viewing Gamaliel’s opinion. Thanks!!

There’s freedom in Jesus Christ. Even as we are faced with our toughest battles. I’m a single mom raising my two children with special needs. I’m overwhelmed at times because they are all I have. I recently started homeschooling my sons because they were having so many issues in school including bullying. So my hours to work are limited. Every month I’m struggling, struggling to pay rent, struggling buying groceries, struggling to do it all. Yet God gives me strength. He will provide I have faith.

That's the fishy part...is there not footage?! Mega churches have their own TV networks, and televise their services, at least Sunday mornings...is this from a week day night service that wasn't filmed? Because I'd think someone has to have footage, showed it to the police, and they would've already put him in jail back in 2008...or it didn't happen, or it did happen, and the church is a corrupt church like Bethel than runs the town and bribed the cops and they couldn't arrest him.

I've found it's not just in the pentecostal church, but in modern day evangelicalism in general, that people have a squeamishness about calling out false teachers. We don't like anything that sounds the least bit harsh. There has been a softness that we have become accustomed to, and any hard word we have mistakenly thought is not loving.
People like Justin ARE the false teachers. Wake up.

It is surprising to me, that a denomination full of false teaching can’t even agree with Todd Bentley! His antics and behaviors are totally divisive even for those in his denomination. Thank you Justin for keeping your podcasts as simple and sincere as possible. Christianity is a simple faith. Simple to understand, the difficulty is that we do not fight against flesh and blood. We are clearly in battle with Satan and his minions who want to pull as many people as they can from the saving message of Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection. There is NO such thing as violence in Jesus’ teachings. He reproached Pharisees and seduces, he reproached those who felt they were religious enough in their actions, but WELCOMED those who humbled themselves before God, and believed in His teachings! He LOVED His followers and never harmed them. So I am grateful you call out false teachers and keep pointing people to the simplicity of what the Bible says!

this came up in our Reformed Baptist Sunday School Class last Sunday ??? I was shocked when several + the teacher even said that as if it was Gospel.... we were not talking about false preachers but they read 'that' scripture and apparently applied it to every movement that speaks the name of Christ....it saddens me to see many in our reformed Church's that do not know what the Bible really says ...even the teachers 😥+ I wasn't aware that John Piper was charismatic ? How would Pastor MacArthur have him at the Shepherds Conference? any imput out there?

This is why I don't support charismatic ministries, not because they are all as extreme as Todd Bentley but because they run cover for / defend people like Todd Bentley. The local charismatic minister in our area has literally defended every false teacher I've ever spoken to him about, he also partners with Catholic priests. I was brought up being taught charismatics were not saved because they believe you can lose your salvation therefore they teach works righteousness.......I don't hold that view and try and be as fair as I can but this pattern of defending heretics is not something I want to be a part of even if there is a degree of separation or two between them and the false prophets themselves. Well, this is awkward. This verse was one of the many that The Lord etched in my heart to bring me to believe and trust in Jesus. I was facing doubts early in my faith, and i finally realized that Paul, and all of the apostles and the believers of the church we repenting of their sins, and willingly facing tyranny and death to witness of what they had SEEN. Why? Well because our Lord Jesus is truly risen from the dead, and ascended on high. I certainly have never applied in the way Justin is speaking of here, as we know from Jesus mouth that weeds will grow up alongside the wheat.

Paul never says, in any of his letters, that he abandoned the strictures of Pharisee sect obedience to the Law.
We have a contemporary answer to Pharisees too, in orthodox denominations, and in Christians who read their doctrine as Scripture.

Vance Havner's essay "Gamaliel the Appeaser" is an excellent take on the man.
there’s a difference between passively sitting by and not taking a stand, because we will “wait and see” and prudently researching somebody’s teaching so that the critiques can be done fairly and analytically and most importantly, based on scripture.
The first one is cowardice the second one is scriptural “shall diligently inquire“ is found all throughout the Levitical law.
that being said, when I take issue with a particular teaching, be at Jehovah’s Witnesses, or Mormons, or Roman Catholic, or charismatic/word, faith teaching I want to make sure that what I critique them on is sound and fair. Regarding the ladder, my wife was hurt by word faith ism, so I take that one rather personally.

It was good advice for that particular situation. Had they not followed Gemaliah’s advice, Peter and John would have been killed. Now you can say it’s bad advice for us. But it wasn’t bad advice for that particular situation, for the Pharisees, especially since Peter and John were legitimate followers of Christ. After all, what if it was God who led Gemaliah to advise that to help protect Peter and John?

Could you please do some research about "Torben Sondergard" - i am from Germany and I visit some TLR Sessions (The last Reformation). I learned from him to read my bible - to check what is really the truth. I learned a lot. But he speaks in tounge and pray for sick (like Todd Withe does). I am so confused about Torben. Please help. I am a member of a Southern Alabama Assembly of God, I am a bible student, and I have issues, the bible clearly states women are to be silent, and Paul through the Spirit tells us why 1Tim 2:11-15, so that is a real issue for me, second is that 1Cor 13 says that 3 of the gifts will end when that which is perfect is come, now by extension, there is a 4th gift that will also cease, if tongues cease, then there will be nothing to interpret, thus interpretation of tongues will cease also.
I am leaning very heavy to the completion of the whole bible with both old and new testaments joined together as one book giving us the completed word of God for all matters of faith and doctrine.
If Jesus is that which is perfect is come, then all 9 gifts are no longer needed because they were for earthly ministry, when Jesus comes and we go home, none of those gifts will be needed and they will all end.
I do not have a problem with 5 of the gifts still in operation, I have a problem with something that does not sound like any language, I have a problem with being slain in the Spirit, I can tell what certain languages are when I hear them, because I have heard them in the past and remember, German, French, Russian, as I have seen much tv and movies where those languages were actually be spoken, so that I remember what they sound like.
What I hear as tongues does not sound like a real language, The Tower of Bable God supernaturally changed groups of those people's languages, and gave them real languages after which they could not understand each other, those were real languages that would form the basis of all subsequent languages that we have today.
I firmly believe that the tongues of Angels follow a real language, that would be recognized as a real language were we to actually get to hear some of it. I also firmly believe that the unknown tongue also follows a real language, it is just one that they were not aware of in their days.
This is such a issue for me, because I know these people, I have been in and around them for years, they do not follow the fake prosperity teachers, we all go to doctors, so there is none of that "if you are sick you do not have enough faith nonsense" we believe that God can and still heals, I am living proof, as I had in incurable disease in my eye and spent 29 days in a VA hospital, because my cornea kept splitting open and it was excruciatingly painful, a Christian eye doctor came in and prayed with me, and I was healed, that was in 1984 and I have never had another issue with that eye ever since, so I know God heals, and that is just one time that He has helped me with my health.
because I know the character of these people, they are decent people, I am torn between the good fruits I see and the unscriptural things they hold, as a Lover of God, I love His word, and He is not going to change it for anyone, but that is my dilemma I have known most of them for a long period of my life, and they are people of good character, our church is a bit more conservative, and defiantly more laid back, there is not a lot of shouting, just occasionally, I cannot recall seeing anyone slain in the Spirit in years, and as I said i really do not believe that is of God.

I agree with you on everything......but one, I think the statement of Gamaliel and what Paul says about him is an obscure indication that he eventually came to understand that Jesus was the Messiah. The Bible also mentions some Pharisees and I believe with out a doubt, Nicodemus believed.
Charismatics won't call out people like Todd Bentley because of the fear in the community if you even say anything bad about anybody who calls themselves a preacher, because they think criticism against a preacher or the movement in general is potentially the unforgivable sin, and that's because men of power use fear to keep people from seeing the truth.
I know you went to Southwestern in Fort Worth, Justin. Some matters need to be dealt with on a local level too. The ministers there in that county could do a lot to instruct many business people to quit associating with Kenneth Copeland. Needless to say Trump totally undermined this effort when Copeland selected him to his prayer team. You can't just do vlogs on this though they are appreciated.
Sadly, discernment is sorely lacking these days. A good, sustained dose of expository teaching is what's needed to keep one's head screwed on these days.

I never understood the Gamaliel advice. You could apply that to Islam and you could say “well it has billions of followers, it must be of God.” Clearly it’s not advice we should follow

What I don't understand is why those in the congregation are laughing and think this is amusing. To me, it's sickening.
Justin, this is an example of the frustration I, and many others, experience when trying to live the Gospel as taught in the Bible. Its not a perfect example, but its okay. Some of the scriptures seem to give contradictory instructions and/or information. You said his advice was “unbiblical”. Its IN the Bible. I understand the descriptive thing. However, the fact that people like you are needed, and you devote such a large part of your life to having to explain all of this and give so many apologetic explanations for things in the Bible, and just teaching these things, that tells me that something is off. That is the frustration. God loves us. Right? He wants us to return to Him. Right? Or maybe I have misunderstood that also? Since/if He loves us and wants us to return to Him(so much so that he sent his only begotten Son…, why is His instructions for how to do so confusing/misleading/contradictory to the point that so many good people such as yourself are tasked with devoting the large portion of your life to clearing up all the problems with His instructions to us? Do not get me wrong, please. I am a Christian and I am trying Justin. But, I love my children Justin. And you better believe, when I have something important I want to tell them, THEY DO NOT LEAVE THAT CONVERSATION WITH EVEN A HINT OR THE ESSENCE OF ANY CONFUSION OR DOUBT CONCERNING NEITHER THE NATURE NOR THE IMPORTANCE OF THE CONTENT OF IT. I like your videos, but this one im having a hard time for it to be convincing for me, if you try to use common logic that all unchristian doctrine came because people used gamiel's advice it just doesnt make sense. Pluse youll have to try to explain catholic inquisition, and seperation from church and state the same way. Even in todays society we go to school and we dont know who is a believer and unbeliever, then should we cancel all there doctrine concidering it to be a horrible advice. have you ever thought of doing a video on the problem the younger generation faces like gen Z and millennials because this is a big thing right now in society there is of course a lot of hate between the younger and older boomer generation and I can't tell you how many videos I've seen on Generation Z let's say they are the most depressed hopeless generation or they are generation that just gave up a generation without a future
And the church hasn't really done a good job at addressing these kinds of issues especially young men that are being left hopeless and I should know because I'm part of Generation Z and I frankly told God for 2 and a half years I told God I hate living here and living in the generation that I want a way out to have a new life and live somewhere else in human history
I can't tell you how many times I poured my heart out to God for that
( a year and a half ago I told my mother I wish you never had me when did I hated everything literally everything in that I wish I was never born in this generation because I wasn't really made or built for it the past is where I find my meaning

Man I know how it feels to have those meltdowns, it's horrible...I curse and scream for a few minutes and then can't calm down, can't sleep, it's horrible, thankfully I have far less of them now than I used to.

So using your logic, do you also think what Satan said to Adam and Eve is true? The Bible accurately records what unbelievers say - that does not mean that everything that unbelievers say in the Bible is accurate or true. You have got to understand this basic distinction. If you do not, you are going to end up in all kinds of really bad places. Let's use your logic in the context of Acts 5. In Acts 5 the high priest instructed Peter and the Apostles, "We strictly commanded you not to continue teaching in this name." So, using your logic, I guess we should all stop preaching Jesus Christ. Is that what you are saying? I'm really grieved to see people with such a woefully inadequate understanding of how to read and interpret scripture. This, sadly, is all too common in charismatic circles.
Again the logic of what Justin is saying, is that verse does not mean what you think it means. Yes, the Bible is the speaking of God but Jesus is the final speaking of God. Use the hurmaneutical tools that Justin has taught us.
