Electric cars is how rich people pretend to help the environment.
EVs in my state and life are for the lower middle class. Always have been.
Just seems smart to buy a Tesla. $15 on fuel, performance of a V8 sports car, utility of a SUV, better safety ratings than any car. Zero compromise from what I can tell. Brain dead argument 1/10 for no effort
Such a bad reply. Electric vehicles are how government taxes people which rich people end up paying hell of a lot of tax to Goverment, EV's are how the Government wants to help the environment while taxing people.

Audi depreciates more than any other car brand. You add an EV into the mix and well, this happens 😂
Fact!
Plus the app he is using is known to mess up sometimes. It could of showed it was worth more then 10 minutes later it bring up the actual value which is way less Resulting in him overpaying for the vehicle
I thought Land Rover was the depreciation king. 🤷
Their etron has been horrible for resale value,
Not factual.. it’s Maserati, Jaguar, Land Rover, BMW etc all depreciate more than Audi.
All Luxury cars that were delivered in 21/22 have lost a huge amount of money not just EVs.
exactly. no surprise that toys that were overpriced to begin with have taken a beating
Not just luxury cars. Pretty much every car sold in 21 and 22 were over priced,
All cars have gone down. Luxury and EV cars have taken a bigger hit. But that happens anytime there is economic downturn or uncertainty.
@@vxnova1 I bought my beater 99 Camry daily for $700 crashed with mismatched tires in 18 or 19, hung some junkyard panels on it and a new set of the cheapest tires Walmart sells. I'd value the car at $1,200-$1,500. I listed it on marketplace for $7,500 as a joke in 21. I had a ton of people message me ready to buy it. Several people said I should've sold it but I couldn't replace it with something as durable and dependable for the same money at the time without buying something needing a major repair. By the time I bought, repaired something it would've been pointless once you figured my time and fuel and maintenance with my truck. My truck gets around 15mpg, holds 7 quarts of oil and a set of tires is $1,000. A wheel bearing for the truck was $175. One for the Camry was $25, it holds half the amount of oil, gets over twice the fuel mileage and a set of tires were just over $200 the first time. The second set six months ago was over $300 but still less than half the price as my truck and last 30k miles compared to 20k on the truck. ( Yes, I drive like an idiot if the numbers don't seem to add up.
Used ICE have dropped but nowhere near the level that EV's have lost. Used EV's have dropped off a cliff in value and dealers still can't sell them.
We're in Ohio and my wife bought a new Mazda CX-90 a few months ago. Came time to renew the registration and we were charged an additional $150 fuel tax surcharge to make up for the fuel tax we would NOT be paying on the reduced volume of gasoline we would likely be buying going forward. It's $200 for Tesla owners, BTW. So the moral of the story is - they're going to get their pound of flesh one way or another - I just think it's shitty to shame us into "doing the right thing" and then give it to us in the shorts when we do.
Thank you for pointing that out! I posted on that very thing, not being aware some states are already charging EV owners. How long before the Feds jump on that wagon too, eh? They gotta fund roads somehow, it's probably coming.
Sorry to say this but, buying an EV is not 'doing the right thing'! The cradle to grave environmental break even point is around 80k miles! You aren't making a dent in the environmental impact! The whole thing is one giant lie! Hybrids or H2 cars (where the H2 is made from fossil fuels!!) are the way to go. Wind turbines, solar panels, EV batteries are a giant ruse that the sheep have eaten up like a big area of grass!

You said the key words right there: "Shame us into doing the right thing". Whose "right thing" are we talking about?
Don't buy a car from the stealership. Problem solved.
I don’t understand - the CX-90 is an inline six with a VERY mild hybrid for mostly performance boosting purposes…
Everything that is happening with EVs was easily predictable. Many of us knew this would happen from day one.
nah its just the car depreciation schedule returning to normal
The only thing that surprises me is how many people grossly overpaid for these EV’s thinking that they were saving money at the pumps and saving the environment. They rarely admit that when traveling their electric cost at SuperChargers is very competitive with a similar sized fuel cost 🤣 And I always like to ask where the electricity comes from 🤷♂️ in my area we have two nuclear power plants that supply our power for your car….

The advantages of an EV + the disadvantages of an ICE all in one car. No thanks.
This couldn't have been anymore obvious than when California went so hard over electric cars then wanted people to stop charging because the grid couldn't handle the load.
My favorite was Maine about to vote on a bill that would stop ICE vehicles sales in a few years. They had to postpone the vote because a storm knocked out electrical power.
@g18886 Wow I hadn't heard about that one. Lol. Just imagine all the electric government vehicles that would be stuck because of bad weather.

OMG Craig is really trying to blame the agenda on why he bought a car in a inflated market even though he dropped serval videos during it saying i "now is not the time to buy a new vehicle" everyone knows luxury vehicles loses value the fastest that's why you should never buy new
My local Porsche dealer has no 911s but a couple dozen Taycans. No one wants them.

He's really only "lost" (in value) about $16k because he bought it for $80k used. $40k gets more clicks.
@@davidmorgan9302 yea. His "dealer discount" put him way ahead of the rest of people that purchased the car at MSRP levels. Every luxury car loses significant value especially when utilized as a daily driver.
Agree with you and good comment. This is a bunch of clickbait. Yes, cars go down in value. Shocker!
Who would have been interesting was to actually determine the value of his car versus a comparable gas car of the same specs. I'm willing to bet the EV still lost a bit more, but I bet it's not nearly the difference you would expect.
Also, you don't lose money until you sell. You also use the car for the time you've owned it. So what you spent is actually That loss and value divided by the time.
Yes, electricity is not free, but it's a hell of a lot cheaper than gas. We own two electrics and I like them a lot, they definitely cost me less to run, but it ain't free. That said, I think my next car is not going to be electric.

The government pushing EVs is despicable. Let the market sort this out I say.
Speaking of iPhones, love the analogy. But why is it? Notice how people sometimes throw them away even though they work perfectly fine, just because the newer model has some new feature and its pushed at a huge discount. Same with EVs. I'm guessing the market is about to be saturated by used EVs, which means proliferation of parts leading to cheaper repairs.
These videos make me happy about my car buying decisions. I own about 4 cars, Prius,Miata,Santa Fe, and a Chevy van. Cars are peoples financial downfall. I drive my 350hp Miata more than any of them. EVs are like cell phones. The prices are going to continue to drop and the capabilities are going to dramatically improve. We are still in the flip phone phase. The next generation of EVs will add 200 miles in 10 minutes. Unlike a gas car, you can fill up at home. If you have a Tesla, you can charge up on the road. It will not make sense to own a hybrid because you are paying for two different drive types of drivetrains. It will be more expensive without any extra benefit. TLDR: Supply and Demand is a real thing... Covid price gouging is no more. People that bought cars at the height of the gouging are now realizing that they done goofed. It has less to do with EV, and more with you making a poor decision in general.
There has been an early adopters premium on technology since forever. I don't know why anyone should be surprised.
Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that one out. A car man should already know that
Its a nice car but why buy one with only 200 mile capacity before charge? If I am paying a significant amount for e car I am getting one with the highest mileage capacity before charge. The car works for you as a daily driver because 200 miles is plenty to drive to work and about town than charge at night. If you keep the Audi for 10 years and doesnt require maintenance you will easily make up the depreciation bc no oil changes, no trans issues. No gas. At some point the car will retain value. It will all work out

Value is relative. Someone who is out to “save” drives a sub $40k vehicle.
You can by a lot of gas when you compare $100k vs $40k
If you buy a Mach E and charge at home, like your phone you can expect to pay under $10 for 1000 miles.
If you rely on 3rd party to charge your car you are hooped. If you want to drive across 3 states you’re hooped.
If you drive an hour or less to work and back, you’re golden!
If you can afford an Audi Etron or a Tesla Plaid you don’t care about anything other than to be “seen” you don’t care about range because you drive a GT3 as a daily.

Have to buy smart. I purchased a Chevy volt for $21,000 used with 30,000miles. Have had it for 3 years saving $200 month on gas. 6 more years of use it was basically a free car. Hybrid is the way to go
Teslas are still selling because they are the best EV around. More power, more range, more durability, best technology, etc. etc. Other manufacturers can't compete with their inferior products.
Notice how the way FUD parrots tend to use the ICE industry as the barometer for EV technology. I find it amazing most of these people can tie their own shoes.
It's funny people claim how horrible it is to own an EV. I had a 2015 Leaf in 2014. There were MANY fewer chargers then than there is now and I never had a problem. In fact, I don't think I EVER used a public charger. Also, nobody is putting a gun to anyone's head, making you buy a $70k+ EV. BRAND NEW EV's can be had for $25k. You wanna talk depreciation on $100k+ cars? What's the depreciation on a new E63? They're about $125k new and MMR is what, about $85k? That's $40k in one year. This is a luxury car problem, not an EV problem.
If these people didn't have double standards, they wouldn't exist. Double standards is what props up their humanoid forms, if they're even human at all (most of these commenters are AI nowadays).
No, got to disagree. This is the EV market.
They are plummeting in popularity because proponents were so thrilled to have the clout in media to make claims of being the future that they ignored the lack of features or marketability.
They kept touting government bans on competition as being evidence of their product being the clear winner.. but that isn't how the market works.
You can't make a product successful and useful simply by wishing it and after enough people tried them, EVs issues (that would have been fixed without the mandates to oversell them) suddenly showed up and in a big way.
And consumers feel cheated.
A healthy technology would have sold itself without mandates or politics, making the case for what it has to offer and let the consumer decide.
@@matthewmosier8439 Well, you're wrong because the percentage of new cars that are EV's every year is increasing, not decreasing. The headlines are a bit misleading. What's decreasing is the rate at which they're increasing.
Love all of your videos you do great work very entertaining but I have a question. What was the worst investment that car or the boat you bought a couple years ago?
Craig you speak the truth about the state of electric vehicle ownership. Not your truth or a narrative but the actual truth based on facts. Facts are painful and somebody has to state them and apparently be hated. You're doing a great job. Keep up the great work. Love the hacks and tips btw.
I think you covered the problems I have with EV's. I don't have a problem with the idea of EV's, but... I not interested in owning one till they have much smaller, lighter, safer, longer range batteries. I think when (if) they become the main cars on the road the charging stations will start popping up everywhere, like gas stations, but, They also need to be FAST charging. Like all new cars they have become far too expensive to repair. Even replacing a tail light assembly costs thousands of $$!
Tesla is the safest cars in the world!
According to Consumer Reports, the people who suffer most from EV Range anxiety and "have problems with EVs" are ICE vehicle owners who have never even been in an EV.
Craig you make money on gas cars and you loose money on electric. Stop buying electric cars.
My Bolt EUV was a fantastic buy. Brand new car for 20k.
Yeah, but you got stuck driving a Bolt.
@@bigmacdaddy1234meh. I’m not trying to impress anybody
The Bolts are fun to drive. I scored a 2019 Bolt EV with 55k miles with a new battery for $7,943 out the door. I'm not stuck driving the Bolt, it's quite fun, and the Trans am gets a go once in a while. So, I pull up in my Orange Dodge Challenger and the salesman says to me, "I didn't expect someone interested in a little Bolt to pull up in that!" I'm like yeah, they all can't be bad ass! Needless to say I did NOT trade it in!
@@michaellightbown9492 I probably have you beat on not caring to impress, but I know enough to stick with Toyota's. You can't do much with a Chevy bolt, small and dangerous too.
@@petera5560 Far safer than any 90s civic you probably drove in. Modern cars are incredibly safe compared to anything in my high school parking lot
You won't have anxiety when you live in a 15 minute city and eat bugs =)
So many wrong things with this video 🤦🏻♂️
Blame Audi for throwing $30K in incentives plus dealer discounts of $5-10K. A friend bought a $108K e-tron GT for mid-70s last summer.
We recently bought a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. In six weeks have been averaging about 75% on electric power. Installed a level 2 charger (for about $350 installing myself) and charging at home costs about $1.50. love the car. Almost all of our daily driving is on EV. Current tank since fill averaging 115 mpg. Would never consider an EV
Until they are on NACS, the only EV that makes sense is a Tesla. I drove my Tesla from Long Island to Ann Arbor, MI and also to the Toronto Canada area. I would not even attempt this unless I had access to the Tesla chargers and also an integrated navigation system like the Tesla with excellent route guidance. I would have just taken one of our other two gas cars. These very expensive luxury EVs with terrible integrated charging route planning and without access to the Tesla charging network makes 0.0 sense to me. Even Tesla S and X makes limited sense to me. Model 3 and Y all day. Possibly Cybertruck as well. BTW, when I charge at home, my Model Y uses about $50 of electricity for every ~1,100 miles.
We love our EV we pay about 25 bucks a month to charge at home we get over 500 kilometers to a charge and never have a problem finding charging away from home we have over 120K kilometers on ours we drive to Florida from Ont Canada 5 times a year out to Montreal Niagara falls etc. We love the freedom and lower cost of charging etc
Why would you tell lies?
@@ddutsie who is lying we absolutely love our EV and no it isn't a Tesla I would take one of those if I was paid to funny you think it is lies you clearly have no clue
@@vacation_fun_makers Stop, just stop.....you're making a fool of yourself.
@@ddutsie says the moron that has probably never Sat their rear end in an EV let alone driven one keep choking on that big oil chub
Yeah not in our state. No charging stations and nobody wants EVs.
You bought the Audi because you wanted it. You're intelligent and you knew you would lose money.
Hi we're from the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT and we want to be your friend!!! A bigger lie than, of course I'll respect you in the morning!!!!
Hi Craig. I agree with all that you're saying. That's a lot of money to lose in just a year. There are not enough charging stations over here in Ireland either. And everyone hates electric cars. Good video, I can't wait to see what will happen at the auction. 😅🇨🇮
well watching your channel shows me everything not to do. Thanks for the real truth and experiences you share
I sold my Taycan at the height and made $15k. I was on a 3 year lease and got out of it after 1 year....range anxiety is a real thing.
Yea those Taycans suck with the range. It's about half of a Model S.
This being said, why, in the name of Baby Jesus, would you buy a car with less than 250 mile range, unless it's for the track? (not a rhetorical question, by the way).
Here in CA there are charging stations in just about every shopping plaza. No shortage of chargers.
If you love it, why does the value matter?
Honesty is the best policy.
The Lightning truck is a joke of a truck.
I just purchased a new ram 1500. Gets 20 miles a gallon. Every ford dealer has over 20-30 lightenings and Mach-e. They can’t get rid of them!! Your right.
That guy in the long roadtrip clip is "Dirch Passer" a famous Danish comedian genius. He died in the 80's but got to make a lot of film from which this clip origin.
EV cars are today’s emperor’s new clothes 😅😮
The reason why the reasale value will be low for used EVs is the EVs battery. The answer is to separate the battery from the car - after that resale value and mileage stress is gone. That means In future you will get always the newest battery tech (which means more range) also for older EVS. Changing the battery will take 3-5 minutes (for 90% of charge). There is a one company which offering EVS with separate battery without battery degradations or stress about battery condition but it is not in USA yet.
This is similar to my thoughts. I had a Mazda cx-50 turbo premium plus but after buying it, we bought a house further away and I was at the pump twice a week and needed something more fuel efficient. I was debating a Tesla but the premium vs a hybrid wasn’t enough to justify, plus the insane insurance costs of a model 3 in Florida. I went with a Camry, but I was debating between a hybrid Camry or regular Camry. The hybrid Camry was roughly $3,000-5,000 more when I bought last year, but only got about 10mpg more on paper on the highway. I couldn’t justify the upfront premium to save $3-5 a day in gas. Mind you on weekends I drive a truck. Plus my Camry is one of the cars that holds decent value
Hybrids or fuel efficient 4 cylinders are the way to go
What app do you use to look up vehicles?
The super low profile tires and the added weight of the batteries will make you an annual customer at the tire shop. Plus those tires don’t come cheap…
Craig, you should tell the people what your last electric bill was and how many kWh you used for that money. People in Oklahoma and other 4 cent a kWh don't understand anyone saying electric vehicles cost a lot here to run (I'm south of you in Mass). I know for me, I pay 38 cents a kWh and doing the math, my Subaru costs less per mile than a single motor Model 3.
dang in wa state I pay 6 per kwh, crazy to not have one here.
I pay $0 for electricity on my EV, but all those savings go to Geico.
Just wait until something goes wrong and you need service. My neighbor cracked his headlight on his Audi and paid $4,400 for 1 new headlight.
Charging that car cost $50? Jesus Christ.
Yup fuc* that noise.
How much horsepower does it have vs the diesel or gas counterpart?
I find people totally forget how much of a rocket they are driving and the efficiency....
It would take three days to charge on a generator
I’m leery getting hybrid vehicles and definitely not full electric 🚗
Hybrids are like iPhones with rotary phone dialing. You have advanced technology dragging dinosaur technology for no reason at all.
Maybe a 500 $ 1981 Chevrolet Caprice Estate Wagon still does the job after all !...
I’ve got my BMW i3 7years ago. My electric bill only went up $11-13 more a month. I’m on a fixed rate for my electric. The only cost I think is crazy is the registration fee @ $250. I charge on a 120v every night and my electric bill increase isn’t bad.
