Hi Craig, I sell cars for friends and family out of my driveway so they don't lose money on trade in. I hate marketplace but unfortunately it's where people look so I am forced to list the there. However I have found something that helps to comb through the crap you mentioned in this video. I have found people don't read the description and only scroll through the pictures. I take amazing photos of the vehicles I sell so the first one always stands out the second picture I now have a PDF photo saying the price and reasonable offers considered by serious buyers in person only. Online offers of any kind will not be considered and will be ignored. It has practically eliminated the problems for me.

Auction Tips- we do a "tag team" approach to pre-auction. Much quicker & easier, one hooks OB2 Scanner, other checks tires, wheels. etc, One starts engine guns engine, other is looking under hood at engine same time, and exhaust, brake lights, and fluids etc.. All options and windows checked out, total time 5-8 min per vehicle. Alone, a 30pt inspection would take 20-30min. Or go visit a new car dealer, for all his over 100k trade-ins, no auction needed. Brandon Ford, Tampa, will not keep any trade-ins over the 3yr/36k factory warranty, everything else is auctioned.

I recently sold a 21 year year old motorcycle on Craigslist. It ran well and the price was fair. I mentioned in the ad that I didn't want it anymore because I now only ride my much newer motorcycle. I had a couple people ask me if I could give them the bike for free since I already had another one. I also had a couple of people that wanted to set up a payment plan with me (and the total payments was still less than my asking price). I ended up selling the bike to a middle-aged man who bought it for his son. Since the price was more than fair, he didn't try negotiating. He gave me a check, we went to his bank, and I got the cash. Why can't everyone be like that?

I hate dealing with people on Marketplace. I was selling a 6 place snowmobile trailer some years back, all rebuilt with new decking, axles and tires and was asking 1600.00 for a starting price. One guy texts me and says he has 400 cash. I text him back "as a deposit? When would you have the rest?" and he replies "Just the 400.00" . I laughed at him and blocked his acct. As for the Urus equivalent, my guess is an SQ8. If that is it, that a nice ride and I am looking forward to the video on that.

I think that Boxster is a good deal if the seller accepts your bid. A previous owner replaced the top with an aftermarket glass window product which is a nice upgrade. If you had attempted to operate a top with the plastic rear window (the only option available until the 2003 model year) you risked cracking it.

I stopped selling this kind of cars. People just come in saying "Hey, I want to test drive that, can I have the keys?" (they don't even ask for the price or anything about the car, just to have a ride). Not gonna happen!
Plus, we have a mandatory 12 months warranty on every used car, wich is a perfect pain when you sell things like these that will be 100% beaten by the kid driving it. No, thanks!
Facebook marketplace is like hell, I can really relate with what you said. At one point, you're unable to tolerate the amount of ridiculous "offers" from people just looking for a steal.

Bravo. I’ve sold many cars in my 66 years, going back to print newspaper ads. They always do one of two things. Either a ridiculous lowball swing-for-the-fence like Alfred E. Newman hitting on the prettiest girl at the party, or the “what’s your best price?”. First one’s easy. Second one, i take them to school. “The price is in the ad.” “Yeah, but…”. “There’s no ‘yeah, but’. Here’s how this works. You make an offer, i make a counteroffer, and we either meet somewhere between them or we don’t. But I’m not going to negotiate with myself. That’s stupid.” By that time, most of them have that look toddlers get when you try to explain the Second Law of Thermodynamics. These people are out walking freely among us…

I had a 06 S2000 63k miles looks very nice but salvage. Tried to get 18 17 16. Many offers even over. Everybody flaked because of the salvage. I listed it in the title that is was salvage. Ended up trading it for 12.5 to get rid of it. I paid 10.5 for it but had to about 2 years. Nightmare car to sell. Constant 10k offers. I never blocked so many people. You tell them your lowest they go way under that. Dealership sold it for 20k in 2 weeks. IDK how. My luck. LOL

Thank you so much for making this video. I own a small business as well. We do business on Facebook marketplace every day . It’s amazing the amount of people that really need called out for their behavior on this platform. I understand being aspirational in your desires to have nice things. But the bottom line is that these people don’t have the ability to buy stuff they ask about. I wish I had all the time back. That I spend on the useless conversations. Hopefully your video calling this stuff out will help.

Hey Craig, love your videos, I have a question though. How many cars does your dealership usually sell monthly or yearly? I'm looking into starting my own dealership with my brother here soon and your videos help a lot!! Thank you

The negotiations are my biggest pet peeve as well. Especially when I allready put a price then they want me to bid against myself by asking what's the lowest.

I just tell them the price I listed it at.. ends the conversation quick. FB is a real pain especially for someone that really does not have a lot of time to play the games.

Facebook is a joke to sell things. I sold a Ducati Panigale R and had an idiot trying to offer 9k for it. I ended up selling it for asking price of 17.5k. Book was 21k, that Facebook guy kept trying to negotiate his last offer was 12k which was below trade price that a dealer would offer. He was rude to the very end saying it wasn't worth my asking. I blocked him after letting him know it sold for asking and to stop wasting people's time.

Tuner cars like that do fine on the mods and miles auction website. That auction site is for people specifically looking for that exact type of modified car.

Craig, am from Canada, it’s next to impossible to buy anything by check up here unless it’s a certified check or money order issued by the bank to guarantee the funds. How do you accept them?

    • @muskokamike127
      @muskokamike127 2 года назад

I'm from Canada too and said the same thing. Even certified you have to be careful because the stamps and punches can be faked.
Here the car doesn't leave the lot until the funds are actually in the dealer's bank account.

I am in Canada as well and I once had someone try to give me a fake cashier cheque. The only way I buy or sell with a cashier cheque is both parties go to the bank and the buyer buys the cheque on the spot in front of the seller. The best scenario (which rarely happens) is if both parties use the same bank.

Even certified checks can be denied payment when presented at the bank, at least in Texas. It simply requires buying a bond from an insurance broker. I once paid $50 for a bond to avoid being scammed by another used car dealer and his mechanic shop. I wholesaled the car after the other dealer test drove it. He thought he had a buyer. When his deal fell through he tried to get me to take the car back. I refused so he bounced the draft. He took the car to his mechanic and they contacted me saying I owed $500 . They claimed they had disassembled the tranny and it needed a syncro gear. They told me the put the tranny back together but didn't install the $50 part. I handed them a cashiers check and when it hit my bank my bank refused payment as I had already given them a copy of the bond.
