      The trans problem in the the grey F150 is the bad battery because with all the electronics in the the truck isn't able to regulate it correctly.

    I got me a beat 99 camry with 260k miles on the clock. Paid $1300 5 years ago. Reliable and comfortable. Just because you paid over $50k for a vehicle doesn't mean it's worth it.

    My dad was a mechanic. Fords kept our family fed. He once had 3 explorers side by side in his bays waiting for the same major engine to come in.

      ​@@RabidRider5161 probably mean major engine component...like a camshaft or timing sprocket as opposed to a minor component such as a spark plug or aux belt where the vehicle can be driven in and out of the bay.

      sorry to disagree with you, but not really. ask any tow truck driver, call any carmax, ask them what cars break down the most and what they tow or work on the most. the most answer i got was Chevy, and not so much ford or dodge.

    1994 Bronco 351 4X4 with 345K- no rebuild. Reliable, comfortable, easy to work on and tough as nails. Ford doesn't make anything remotely comparable these days.

      Yeah I got a 2017 with the 5-0 6 speed. 5.0 with the 6 speed is a solid truck in my opinion

    My girlfriend's 2019 F-150 3.0 diesel with the 10 speed. The torque converter just failed at 44k. The guy at the Ford service said "yeah its a common issue and they are backed up in the transmission service due to that exact issue." Getting rid of it once warranty work is done.

    To anyone watching this with the 10 speed here’s some advice. If you let a few people drive your car/ truck. The computer learns how you drive and wants to store how you drive so the car knows who’s driving.
    I bought an f150 2020 used with 50k miles and the transmission would occasionally kick like a horse. I cleared all the drivers with a scan tool and it hasn’t kicked ever since.
    It’s been over 8 months without a kivk

      I used a Hypertech tuner and made the trans shift as firm as possible at all times and it's been driving real nice for the last 100,000 miles

    I had a 2017 Ford Edge, with the 3.5L naturally aspirated V6 engine. I got rid of it after Scotty told us about the built-in water pump that works off of the timing chain, at the top end of the engine. Haven't regretted it ever.

      Notice this car is you stop making your payments it wont work. You can see who it was made for. Idiots. They pay extra for a vehicle they need a payment on it costs so much as it has to be able to shut itself off if the bank doesnt get their money. A car that cant shut itself off will cost less i bet you itll be easier to sell more for cash wothoutnall this moronic actual bloatware. Down right virses ford designed. Imagine your plastic oil pan getting repossessed

    I heard that Ford got so cheap and they've got the rewiring so tight that any kind of movement makes the wires break at the harnesses and causes all of those problems. So I guess they saved 50 cents with the quarter of an inch of wiring. And that's causing a lot of the problems with the Fords and of course, the build quality with water intrusion.

      So true my moms 2013 ford fusion has multiple broken wires on it causing error codes, mostly from ford doing recall work. So cheap my 83 k10 truck still has original wiring with zero problems. Ford is garbage

    2017 4 runner.
    Moved cross country twice towing. Lifetime Half highway, half hard trial miles. Besides the forged wheels and pedal commander when I got when I bought it , just oil changes and tires expenses.
    Sure bad milage but LT tires , forged wheels on a great platform. Drive something you can be confident it won’t fail you.

    So I wanted the Lincoln experience and leased a 2020 Corsair with nearly every option available. This was from new. About four months into the lease and probably less than 5k miles the computers started giving numerous system failure warnings. They were all for safety systems and I told the dealer to come get it as I did not trust the thing to drive it with all those safety features nonfunctional. Note that these failures were all intermittent. A week later the dealer told me they did not recognise any of the error codes and had to contact Ford about it. Turns out that Ford didn't even know what was happening. Eventually, someone figured out that a sensor housing somewhere was cracked and took on water which caused shorting and that confused the car's computers. So the sensor was replaced (after ordering the replacement twice because someone screwed up the order) and things started working normally....not really. In my opinion, the computers were somehow damaged and some of the errors resurfaced but very intermittently. Fortunately, I was able to get out of the lease without any $ out of my pocket. I called it brain damage and am satisfied with having had the Lincoln experience. It was a really nice car, drove very well and so smooth. No, I will not go back to Ford products.

    Back when I was working on cars you never heard of a differential going bad. It just never happened. You would get the occasional GM in for rebuild but even that was rare. Only if the owner beat on it.

      Such a shame, especially as the old ones were so good that they still drive, while the newer ones don't. I still daily drive my 2001 Ford Mondeo with the 2.0 Mazda engine and manual transmission.

      The last Ford I had was a new 2006 Freestyle, a paid it off two years early, and planned to drive for awhile. Not quite 61000, the cvt transmission went out,and would have cost 6000 to replace, because it can’t be fixed, only replaced. I said nope, bought a Kia sorento, and haven’t had a ford since then.

      Was a teenager at the time. Family here in Europe bought a Ford Sierra new. It was a 🍋 like I've never seen before or since. Constant engine issues. One of the worst brands ever & I don't get how they are still in business. Even our Renault cars do better which is saying something.

    They should had made the 5.0 302 V8 on the expedition.. i don't buy anything full-size that is not a V8. A full-size vehicle has to have a V8 no exceptions...

      The 3.5 eco boost a superior motor in almost every way shape and form to the 5.0 v8 made for all other models then the mustang…
      Idk what the hell Scotty is on saying it doesn’t have the pick up that the 5.0 has… it’s quite literally faster in every scenario

    Ford worked very hard from 1990-2010 to internalize Total Quality Management. They have been chasing advanced tech bunnies since then and have lost sight of quality.

      Seems like the only close to trouble free FORD product now is the E SERIES cab/chassis. They kept the same platform for decades because it works. It’s by far and away the most popular foundation for class C motor homes and hotel/airport shuttle buses.

      Not really. They had that awful 5.4 3v, the terrible 6.0 and 6.4 diesels, the 4.0 SOHC that was notorious for timing chain problems, and any car that was FWD was unreliable junk compared to the Asian cars

    I had a 1998 Expedition that had the 5.4 liter Engine that liked to blow Spark Plugs. I don't drive anymore and I can't walk very Good now, but I still enjoy Your Videos.

      Change the plugs at regular intervals and torque them more than factory spec and they won't blow the plugs out. I've got 330,000 miles on my 99 Expedition.

    Took my F250 for standard maintenance. They left every other lug loose. Luckily each wheel has eight. And they left my power steering cap on the cowel... So much for dealer service.
    I do my own breaks now and I tighten my lugs with torque wrench.

      Remember when john deere said we shouldnt work on our own tractors yet the companies own people cant even work on them. Scam. Robbery slavery scams. It has a problem you have to call a tech that makes 250k a year off you and a few others. He shows up and says "we cant fix it, have to replace it"

    I have a 08 Ford F-150 XL with 5spd manual transmission with roll down windows. Runs great with 105k. Very little electronics just plain and dependable.

    You're not wrong Scotty. Over 2 years I have worked on 2015 - up f150s with the 3.5 twin turbos. Valve covers crack under pressure from the turbos, cam phasers, timing issues, leaking plastic oil pans, etc. Older Ford's pre 2010s that didn't have the cam phasers/ timing issues were alot more reliable than the newer crap ford's dishing out these days.

    I started watching Ford Tech Malco a few years ago when I had my 2010 F150 that I took much pride in. I realized that the problems that I was experiencing were known by Ford and they could give a damn. Also in watching Ford tech Malco I realize what could be coming and I bailed and got a 2020 tundra that I’m very happy with. When I make a comment like this here on RUclips, all of the guys who cannot afford or don’t have the sense to spend their money wisely, bombard me, whatever. My tundra pre-turbo, pre-hybrid 2020 is a great truck.

      I'm considering getting a 2024 Nissan Titan. From what I've read, the 9spd transmission is smooth and people average 15-16mpg without having any cylinder deactivation crap that GM, Ram, and Ford all have.I don't want one of the twin turbo Toyota's new. Wise choice getting the Tundra when you did.

    I had a 2005 ranger that was the biggest lemon of any truck I owned. My pops has a 2019 ranger and it’s been great so far to 45k miles but I don’t trust turbo trucks…..
    Just got a new frontier pro x. Love it so far

    2020 F-150 5.0 started hard shifting 2-3 and 4-5 at 30K miles. The dealership fixed it just by cleaning 2 solenoids and changing the transmission oil and filter. So now I will have the oil changed every 30K to make it last.

      i have the 2021 xlt they redid all of that i had a new 2018 ford 5.0 worked great for 30 grand then made weird noise at idle through town like a timing chain growl it was weird 10 speed.the 2021 10 speed is totally different shifts different way smoother they figured it out

    I’ve got a 1998 does explorer v8 5.0, and she is a little tank! With 178k mi, I have had to replace basically the entire cooling system, myself - and a whole bunch of other stuff- but hey - that’s why we’re watching ol Scotty boy!

    For now im just sticking with my rusty 05 F150 with the 5.4 3v. Its got 250k miles on it and has never given me a problem and it tows and hauls everything i would ever need it to. Its a shame that car companies just dont care as much about quality control anymore.

    I got a 98 Ford Ranger 5-speed stick the best vehicle I ever owned easy maintenance I just changed the catalytic converter the muffler and the clutch runs like a dream I have a real vehicle not a computer on Wheels LOL

    My 2020 Expedition has had cam phasers issues. Also had to have infotainment system reflashed. Other than that it has done what I have expected 105k miles to date

    The government can take a share of the blame for the problems. The CAFE standards are forcing the manufacturers to make little engines work harder than they should and complex multiple gear transmissions to meet MPG requirements.

    Still using my 2003 F-250 V10 as my daily driver. 210,000 miles. Only real issue was the exhaust manifold studs snapping off after 100k miles. Installed headers on the truck when that happened and it's been mainly good after that.

    I am keeping my 2013 f150 V8 Fx! Just had 100,000 mile maintenance at my personal mechanic, wouldn't dream of taking it to ford for that service! Just had the ac repaired and had to take the dashboard out to do the repair 10 hours of labor. But the truck runs great and the coyote V8 is wonderful. Will keep maintenance going because the thought of 70 plus thousand for a new one will not happen. I bought this truck with 79 thousand miles and my question is at 103,000.miles should I drain my trans fluid and not flush it or just do nothing it shifts just fine. Thank you sir enjoy your show!

    Bought a 1984 Ford Ranger. 2.0 liter motor, 4-speed manual, first year for the club cab. Other than a weak temp fan (they never upgraded for the extra space inside), and rust issues (new exhaust almost every year, but to be expected n the NE) I loved that truck. Put almost 200,000 on it when I had to junk it in 2011.
    I leased a brand new F-150 in 2021, then bought an Ecostar outright. Regretted both greatly. Fit and finish problems, the infotainment system on both would black out, the power seats creep constantly, the mirrors are absolute crap for visibility, on the Ecostar the charging ports crapped out though the fuses are good, the piped in engine sounds on the truck sounded buzzy... The list goes on, some problems minor, other major.
    I Will Never Buy A Ford Again.

    I have a 2020 Ford F150 3.5 Eco Boost and it is the best vehicle I've owned. Quick, comfortable, and fuel efficient for a pickup. It's the 10th new vehicle that I've bought, plus numerous used vehicles. Last year I rented a BMW X5 for three weeks for a trip on the east coast. Both wife and I agree that the F150 would have been more comfortable.

    This video reminds me of how old I am.
    My first thought is "The Return of the Throwaway Cars". 😅
    In the 80s they used to make cars that would only last a few ten thousand miles. Then everything would go to crap and you were better off selling it to the junkyard for 50 bucks and buying a new one. We all used to call them throwaway cars.
    But what really sucks is this new generation of throwaway car cost ten times as much as the first generation did forty years ago. 👎

They were nice smooth riding cars but plagued with all kinds of problems. They did improve that platform in the form of the PLYMOUTH GRAND FURY and DODGE DIPLOMAT. They were pretty good cars and PD’s liked them.

      Also, my buddy's dad had a Ford Ranger. At 85,000 miles the engine started going out. He took care of his cars religiously. He replaced the engine with a used engine from a Mustang. He kept it for only a year after that and traded it in.

    I owned 2 ,2002 Ford Windstars..1st one i bought new. An LX..Got 297 k before it blewva head gasket. It was probably the most reliable vehicle ive owned. It broke down twice in 20 years..once when the heater hose assembly let loose..and the 2nd time is when the trans let go at 184 k. It didny need a wheel bearing until 283 k front left and it was in its 2nd water pump..It was replaced at 37k and was still going strong at the time of the head gasket..original exhaust syste. I drove the wheels off that van..my other is a SEL..179 K a cream puff..use it for highway trips.

    When Ford was legitimately "Quality is Job 1" they were excellent. Then, the focus became financials, so "lowest cost bidder" issues are everywhere now. Also, turbos, 3-valves, smaller and smaller engines in larger and larger vehicles. Too much emphasis on supposed fuel economy, rather than driveability and longevity.

    Mister nerd again...No one should ever buy a turbo unless they want lots of trouble... There are so many problems with them due to the extreme temperatures involved. Even the ones with an intercooler are are problematic after about 30 or 40000 miles.

    I liked the Triton V8 ones. I just think a V8 is a better engine. Ecoboost is better performing, but V8 engines will always be on top from my book. They are an American staple.

      No extra stress from a turbo. Yes those TRITON family of 8 and 10 cylinder engines were proven with long life and smooth operation. I was watching another video of an old BLUEBIRD school bus with a FORD V10 being cold started. Man what a nice sounding engine.

    I hate stop/start. I disable it every drive. For me it seems like that process would wear the starter out and isn't there less oil pressure on start up? Wouldn't that wear the motor out faster?

      Defaults the system to remember the last setting, so it doesn't default back to ON at start-up.

    You're right on it Scotty those things are junk, they don't even resemble an old expedition. I've been rebuilding transmission for over 43 years at a major franchise (AAMCO) for a living. We're a good shop! We treat people fairly, and we're honest. My only complaint against you is the way you rag on us guys out here in the field who are just trying to make a living. We are seeing them in the shop already 50k 60k and already needing a transmission, it's a crime they're cheap and just not up to what Ford used to be.

    I got one of these trucks. I had a dead battery and it took me 45 minutes to find someone to give me a jump. I forgot to turn off the automatic start stop. Then on a freeway there was a traffic jam and I stopped and the engine turned off. I ended up paying $350 to have it towed cause nobody wants to give you a jump in the middle of a freeway.

    My top-of-the-line Eddie Bauer, 4 x 4 expedition had three repairs on the front wheel drive unit when I put it in four-wheel-drive it would lock up and compound low and I was skiing in and it locked up and I couldn’t go over 15 miles an hour all the way back to the Ford dealer from Park city that was the last American High End SUV that I purchased.

    I’ve been learning and working as a mechanic for a lil over a year now and one of the most mind bending things was seeing most new fords all have PLASTIC oils pans, drain plugs, trans pans etc etc. I can’t wrap my mind around the engineering behind it, and fords isn’t the only one doing this nowadays

      I used to be a mechanic, and I’ve seen many many many metal oil pans from older vehicles begin to rust out and leak oil. I’m not saying plastic is the correct solution but it definitely mitigated the deterioration you get from having a metal oil pan.

    With those modules a lot of times I need to use unplug Em them and sit for about 30 or 60 seconds and plug them back in. If it has a chuck sum Error that is a straight programming Error. (Check Sum is a numerical technique to make sure that all the data was received.) Again this is your old guy nerd with 3 engineering degrees... Love it!

    I'll stick with my 05 F150 5.4L 4x4 with 338k on the clock. Original engine, trans, drive line, cooling and electrical systems. If it dies I wouldn't gaf as I bought it 15 years ago for $9g.

      07 F-150 5.4L 2WD with 176k miles. Only issue was cylinder misfires fixed for $1500 at around 115k miles. My F-150 has been reliable and never stranded me on the road ONCE. Glad to hear you have high mileage with your Triton 5.4L too!

    2023 F150 - If you come in hot to a stop sign or traffic light and as soon as come to a stop if you try to turn and punch it it's has no power, I can reproduce it easy. Scotty is right put it in sport mode and that will fix the issue. I disagree about the 3.5 eb vs the V8, it has all the power, reminds me of driving a diesel, crazy torque off the line. Is it way over priced, hell yeah, they are subsidising the EV's with the price hikes on the regular F150's. No way in hell I would buy an electric pickup.

    I work at Autozone and looked at our new quarterly tool magazine and there are pages and pages of tools made specifically for fords and their unique problems. Sure, special tools were there for all makes, but Ford has 10x and most were model or trim level specific, not just the make.

    Having worked in high tech electronics back in the 80’s
    The worst environment for electronics is the car/vehicle,
    Electrical noise, vibrations,harshness,thermal cycling,etc, early components and circuit boards had to be encapsulated in epoxy in an attempt to impart longevity and durability. Extreme heat or cold are electronic killers

    Why does ford keep putting V-6 turbos and 10 speed transmissions in their big SUVs and trucks? I have a 2014 F-150 with the 6 speed transmission and a 5.0 Coyote engine with over 250,000 miles that gets the same gas mileage as these V-6 turbos, has plenty of horsepower and torque, I have had no major problems with it and it still runs like a champ.

      To FORD’s credit, they still offer non turbo 6 and 8 cylinder engines. People have an obsession with turbos as a status symbol but it’s always best to avoid turbos all things being equal.

      It’s also about planned obsolescence. Ford knows that people will love the speed of these Ecoboost but the big reason if Ford was being honest , is that these Ecoboosts will have more problems by 150k miles forcing people to buy a new truck earlier. Look at the 5.0 coyote, great engine, but too good. They made changes to it and now it’s not nearly as reliable long term.

      @@Trevormaffetone They did make changes around 2018 for Gen 3. They changed from a traditional cylinder liner to a “new technology”. Oil burn has become an issue in an engine that did not have an issue. A friend of mine who works for a large Ag chemical company was the first to alert me to this issue and they are seeing it consistently on engine with over 150k miles. Only Ford could ruin a great engine, well them and GM.

    In regards to the lighting, I have a Tesla model 3 and the range changes in winter really are not as bad as what he described in the ford. Not sure if it is just Ford’s batteries not being as efficient but I have really enjoyed the Tesla. Super chargers always work perfect, the car has had no issues, and software updates are great. Still need a family suv or truck though as the space is way too small for a family.

    I have the 6 speed transmission in my F150 with 183,000. Only ever changed fluid and filter and it still shifts perfectly. Hopefully it will continue to do so for a while longer lol.

      Don't abuse it and continue to change the fluid and filter and it should be fine.
      The Internet also claims the Getrag six speed manual in my Mustang is junk and will break. If find the opposite is true in my long term real world experience.

      I'd take longevity over smooth shifts any day. 10 speed transmissions are ridiculous. Are people doing surgery in vehicles now? Talk about overkill.

      @@302Mustang13 10 speed transmissions are the more complex solution to a nonexistent problem. I'd rather they spent their production dollars on eliminating some plastic coolant hoses, etc.

      @@DUCKSAREEVILLLLLLLL Plastic cooling hoses?? I wasn't a fan of the 10 speed Ranger I drove, but maybe with time it'll be ok. The real world highway mpgs being impressive though is due to the 10A. It gets better mpgs than my 2.5 n/a Ranger reg can w/ 5 speed manual 2wd did on the highway at lower speeds.

    So glad I listened to your advice. Bought a new 2023 Subaru Crosstrek Premium with a manual. Is slow to accelerate sure, but the AWD did well in snow and the vehicle checks every single box other than acceleration. I'm okay with that, and I work at a Ford assembly plant. I also got it for $25k new, and Ford was starting at $35k my A-plan price. Hey Scotty, I'll be down in Tennessee in the near future if you want to do a review or something on it. I have 13k miles since May 2023.

      Subaru has a lot of Toyota tech in them I’ve heard. I like the Crosstreks. Especially, like the wildernesses and the manual transmissions that are available. I wish the Outback’s had a manual option. 🤷🏼‍♂️

    The 3.5 ecoboost has more hp and torque than the 5.0 v8 coyote. and is almost just as reliable by the numbers. love your videos keep it up

      So if you took a $75k lightning and a $75k gas f150. The entire drivetrain for the gasser would cost less than $25k, when removed would leave you with a $50k shell. For the lightning the entire drivetrain would cost atleast $50k, and when removed would leave you with the same shell, same options for 25k? Ford is either shoving it in their *** on the lightnings, or theyre shoving it up the customers *** on the ecoboosts

    I bought a brand-new Explorer Limited in 2020. The DAY I TOOK DELIVERY, as I was driving home on the highway, the car suddenly went into a sort-of limp mode, and was making a loud hissing noise. I immediately turned around and took it back and it was determined later that day that the EGR valve blow out and it would take a couple of days to get a replacement since they didn't have the part on-hand at the time. It was fixed of course, but that was a glaring warning sign.
    I still have the vehicle, and it's had multiple issues. 1. Folding 3rd row seats stopped working (replace the module that controlled it). 2. Driver's window would roll up, but not stay and would immediately go back down (another module replacement). 3. Sunroof would not close all the way (It was removed and reset by a tech). 4. Multiple issues with the console display going black and/or freezing up (It was replaced once, but still occasionally blinks to a black screen).
    It runs great, and its comfortable, and it will be paid off in less than a year. But, I don't want to get commit to buying another vehicle. I will tell you that when I do decide to buy a new vehicle, the next one will not be a Ford.

    I paid 52,000.00 in 2005 for my armada. Still pulling my wakeboarding boat just like day one. 97k miles and runs great. Never ever had it in a shop. I fix everything myself. Which has been very minimal. New starter…that’s about it.

    My brother is a service dealer with a Ford Dealership in Northern California and he has a 2012 Toyota Tundra 4.6 and has a 2021 Toyota RAV4 all gas, he says the 4.6 Toyota engine is the best engine ever made

      You've got to listen to everything he's saying. It's not all bad.
      I know when I'm working, my job is to inspect other people's hard work and pick 10 things that could be better. That's constructive criticism that ensures a high standard of work.
      If you want to watch a video that glosses over problems, it's better to watch a standard review. Every car has problems.

    As a former Ford employee, this saddens me.
    I bought a "new” Ford lately.
    A 2008 Ranger XLT.
    3.0 V6.
    I feel safer buying one that's 16 years old than I do a new one.
    ....and again. It saddens me.

    I have a 2019 F150 5.0 coyote with the 10 speed. I love it 40K miles to date and no problems (knock on wood)

      The manufacturer parts for the escape and expedition have some similar electronics, engine components, and transmission are parts they use across the board, my bet is to keep it simple with ford and not get these big suped-up suvs

    I once forgot to tighten the lug nuts. One of them fell off in my driveway luckily it was the only one that fell off. Meanwhile, I was driving around for days like that & was wondering what the noise was.

      You probably change your oil before 5k too. Many people go by the recommended intervals when they’re mostly driving in the city. And not using Motocraft oil or filters. Huge mistake.

      Scotty is correct as to the 10 speed transmissions. Don’t buy one. But GM has also suffered problems with their 6 speeds too.

    This is why im so glad i managed to find a 2018 f150 which has zero features. Got me a gorgeous interior and what i think is the best front end ford has made since obs. Only thing that gives me issues is the transmission but its the software and its an easy fix.
