Plastidip actually makes a “Dip Remover” - its expensive, but it REALLY makes the job easier. You spray it, let it sit a minute or two, and it will power wash off. Love these videos, and great job with what you had to work with!
Irresponsible people that don't or can't make a payment also can't or don't repair cars. The death repo cars are usually pretty good though. Person dies and family gives it back to the bank.
I had a flip car that had the exact same with the plasti dip on the wheels. The best thing I was able to use was plain ol gasoline. I don't know what is in gasoline but it reacted to the plastidip and made it bubble up and almost run off the wheels. Before that I used everything you could imagine including Acetone. Gasoline was what I used to make it come off much easier. Use gasoline on them wait a about 10 seconds then use pressure washer and BAM!
I can understand spending an hour, maybe 2 on a wheel to see how they will clean up, but once you got to where you weren't making that progress then just scrap them and find a cheap used set of wheels that fit. At that price range, people aren't expecting perfection but they need to at least look relatively clean.
My suggestion, tyres off rims, dry ice blast the wheels (or sand blast if you are very good at it), buff out any corrosion and then paint or polish. Those wheels cheapen the car too much right now.
Happy New Year Craig to you and your family. Hit the LIKE button and about to watch the video. When my old partner was retiring from the FBI he called me in the office with an address to meet him at. The address turned out to be a Chrysler dealer. He was driving by and saw one of these for the first time. He wanted my opinion on buying it. I told him he was entitled to a better retirement gift then he received from his office and he immediately bought it, less then an hour after seeing it for the first time! A couple of years later he was in an accident with it in which the car “became airborne “. Great car, he didn’t have a scratch on him. The Crossfire was a different story. The six speed was his downfall. He just couldn’t resist putting his foot to the floor and loved hearing the supercharger wind up. Outstanding car!
I've been binge watching your videos for two days straight, I have a good job and sell cars on the side I'm not sure when I should take that leap and start to own a small dealership. I feel like it's something that's been calling my name for years
Maybe sand blasting the wheels would of worked? The sand would of left small pitting, but the whole wheel would of been pitted uniformly. Might of even looked cool?
Crushed glass is the way to go and would have taken 20 minutes a wheel and you could have just painted them straight away. Not even need to wipe them with a preprep. Craig, invest in a media blaster. $400 on marketplace for a decent one. Thumbs up for being real and showing us how bad those wheels actually looked.
@@jacknimble1 Yeah I used to use a portable one with a cup thing that connected to a shop vac and a gun that you poked through the pickup....for spot sandblasting....it had rubbers that were pointed to get into cracks and then squares for larger areas.....It was quite the little toy.....would have been perfect for the wheels.

I have a 2005 Limited Crossfire, perfect showroom condition 94k on the OD, and it's only worth $7,500.00 retail - they are a great car with lots of bang for the buck, but parts are scarce because of the rarity and when they came out, Topgear gave it a review that said the coupe looks like a dog taking a dump and that stuck - mine sat on a dealer's lot for a year before I bought it mainly because he liked using it as his lot car, but his son sold it out from under him for 2 thousand less than their asking price. And that dog dump look is now popular in many cars today, like the newer Porsche's
Amazing cars for the price, I've driven my daily for two years now and only issue I've had is the RCM going out, as a body technician I can say these cars are more solid than any other early Chrysler, dodge jeep, or ram product with confidence
My dad has one of these. It's a nice highway cruiser with a surprisingly heavy and comfortable ride for such a small car. But it is a cruiser for sure, though it sounds good, it's not at all fast though it looks it.
I have not used the airplane stripper on plastidip but I did on our 2007 Tahoe that clearcoat was peeling. I spent hours messing with the gel thinking it would be better…finally bought the same stripper in a spray can and went to car wash. Had all wheels done in 15 minutes. I think you should try the spray can version.
Just a tip for the future. When we’re moving plasty dip, if you use some thing, citrus-based and let it sit for a little bit the plasty dip will usually come off easily. Just an example of products like Goo gone automotive.
Me, I would run it thru the auction again. Just not quite there to risk my (your) reputation on to the general public. that mystery noise might be back if it sits a day or two, rims like you said are not the best, exhaust seem bouncy when you were trimming them, are they on solid or will they break lose in a month or so of hard driving? Just little things like that would have me sending it back to the auction.
I would of used paint stripping pads on the grinder. Does not dig into metal but would of stripped paint and oxidation off in seconds. Did it on my last vid in fact.
I used to own a crossfire and if u go on FB there are groups that u could easily sell that car for so before you run it thru the auction take a look on FB cause the enthusiast would pay more than a dealer would
First off the car has been modified. It has a CAI. Likely an SRT throttlebody. Exhaust is missing the resonator. When the wing stays up then there is likely a wheel or brake sensor issue. Hence esp/abs. Scan it to pinpoint which is the issue. Also it came factory with a steering wheel airbag. That may trigger codes. Sadly its not really worth any more than you paid. Maybe less, Its been clapped out. On another note parts are worth bank. Each headlamp goes for about 500 bucks. The dash assembly is worth a shit ton if the mounts and screw holes are not broken. Interior parts are a hard find for these. The cold air intake is worth about 500 bucks minium and if it has the srt throttle body there is another 300. Most crossfires get wrecked in the front.
I had the exact same car that I bought new in 2005. Loved it and it was totally trouble free. Of course I did not trash it like the previous owner did.
You're right. It's not a silk purse. Runs dynamite tho. Sad about the wheels. I love Mercedes so it would make a good beater. Especially fun with the 6 spd.

there is one of these thats pretty clean at a public auction in my area (central texas). Its ran 3 or 4 times now and always gets to 4-5k. Dudes reserve is at 6k. Should be a decent win for ya!
I’m completely rebuilding one as a show car and doing a lot of mod work including a V8 engine swap. For what’s wrong with it and how cheap those cars go you’re going to be lucky to turn a profit on it. You can buy them all day in better condition than that one for between 4,000-5,000
Did you try burning the wheel coating off with a torch? You have to see beyond the dirt and crap, I would put a headliner in it and it will sell or skip the headliner and run back through the auction.
The easiest way to get Plastic Dip off surfaces is to apply it to a wrench or plier handles and use them. BTW the solvent for Plasti Dip is Naphtha/mineral spirits if that helps.
Craig thanks again for another great video. I have been catching up on old videos from 4yrs ago and they are very informative and educational. please keep up the great continent!

I had a crossfire for about 5 years. Absolutely loved it midlife crisis car. On the tail end the pipes should have two Chrome squared off covers. You shouldn't see the tail pipes at all. You could probably get them quite cheap and it really makes the car look a lot better. The Chrome would look good against that black. I always wanted a black convertible. But they rust really bad really quickly. I had a $1,500 transmission repair before it even hit 100,000 miles the electric plate went bad. Maintenance is ridiculously expensive You have to maintain it like you would of Mercedes. Fun car is a toy. Wasn't a good daily driver not very comfortable either. But a lot of fun to drive.
You polished that turd up nicely…the rims are a let down…personally I’d get the rims stripped and powder coated…heck contact J&R auto salvage and see if they can hook you up with some replacement rims and perhaps a headliner…might even get a hood and grill. I think those cars have a following.

I couldn’t the video telling us what happened with the Porsche Taycan you had for sale in California. Can someone tell me a what video it is or how it turned out please.
Gasoline is probably the best for plastidip just short of sandblasting them. Sandblaster would've made these wheels fantastic. Also it hurt my heart seeing you pull the dent like that, you can use a towel on the paint for a better result.
Did you hear that tinny thump when you tapped the roof? I rented a convertible one years ago to drive from Ft. Lauderdale to Key West and back. This car just felt loose and tinny could not recommend it.
