It looks lovely on you Cheryl. I hadn’t really considered this dress on versions Ive seen before. I had issues of gaping on the Vintage shirt dress and took darts on the sleeve near the shoulder. ( it was sleeveless luckily)

I made the same version. I definitely confused myself more than once to the point I had to walk away a couple times. It also took a lot more fabric, than I anticipated, but I get compliments on the dress when I wear it.

Love the dress, love the fabric. There are (thin, flat) clips with which you can pull in your bra straps to the middle of your back away, so they won’t show anymore. Turns regular straps in kind of racerback. I use that on sleeveless tops like this one, even when armholes fit well. Prefer it over inconvient, insecure strapless bras.

My arm holes are always too big on SOI patterns. Always end up taking in a huge amount on the side seams at that point.

Such a beautiful dress. It really fits you well and is very flattering. I loved all your tips but have a question about overlocking the skirt pieces before sewing them together. Usually once you've sewn a seam you cut some of the seam allowance away but I'm assuming if you overlock the individual pieces first you don't cut away any of the seam allowance. Is that correct? X
Gaga Knits thank you 😊 yes, no need to trim any away, just aim for the edge rather than trim off. You can always dis-engage the blade too 👍🏻
I guess appearances are deceiving because it doesn't look that difficult to put together, but thanks for the reviewing the pattern! I may give it a whirl!

Hi Cheryl! Thanks for the super useful review. I've just bought the pattern and wondered about your measurements. Honestly I can't believe you cut a size 14! You look very slim :-) So if you don't mind, just so I have a good starting point (because grading between sizes on this pattern would be a nightmare!) could you share your chest and waist measurements please? I suppose the hip measurement doesn't really matter? iMany thanks.
Thanks for the review. I am positive my skills are there yet and its nice to know before hand. I love your fabric choice too. Question: Your fabric colors & prints always complement your coloring. Do you consider that when choosing fabrics? I'd love to hear how or what you consider when choosing a fabric. As a beginner, it's disappointing to make a garment that doesn't work for my coloring or body type...thanks again for the video

I tend to just choose fabrics I like, it’s the ‘intake of breath test when I spot something 😂’ I’m drawn to earthy colours and pastels which suit me better than neon brights, although I’m working on a very bright wrap top that’s coming up soon, let’s see if it works 🤷🏻♀️😊
