  • Hey Peeps! I get asked about the Sew Over It Eve dress all the time so I thought I would do a stand alone pattern review video talking about my experience with the pattern and the tweaks that I've made to it. I LOVE this dress and I can definitely see myself making more in the future.
    I have made some changes;
    1. French seam everything and add a buttonhole for the tie
    2. Cut 4 yolks and burrito them
    3. 1" added to bodice length
    4. 2" added to skirt hem
    5. I cut longer ties
    6. I finish the front edge with bias binding
    ....I really like the finish that these modifications give me.
    Overall it's a great pattern that makes a beautiful dress. I highly recommend it.

    Lisa Comfort wore the Eve blouse hack on the dress sewalong. I would love to try that as a wearable toile as it uses less fabric. Thanks for mentioning the sizing, I appear to be out of their range but will give a muslin in a 20 a go now.

    I'm just finishing my first Eve. Late to the party as always! I've made the same changes as you but made bias tape from the fabric. I've made it in a powder chiffon which has been a bit of a pain to sew...my rolled hem foot hates it! I had to do a 2 * 2" FBA to get the bodice to fit properly and added 1/2" length just above the waist... though I may add another 1/2" if (when) I make it again. I did the level hem and took two inches off as I can't wear heels anymore (😢😢😢) so I look a bit frumpy in longer / hi low hems. Love all your versions.

    Haya. Beautiful dresses. I would not worry about if somebody made/wore the same outfit, when you think of rtw there are thousands of identical garments & therefore thousands of people have the same tee/skirt/shirt/dress ect. . . Happy sewing, thanku for sharing. x

    I truly appreciate you taking the time to create this informative video. I'm a size 36" upper chest and 39" full bust.
    Being 5 '8", I made size 16and lengthened the bodice by 1".
    Like you, I found the bodice too big.
    Thanks to you sharing your findings, I will now size down to a size 12 bodice and grade out to size 14 for the waist and hips (plus lengthen the bodice by 1" ).
    I think that this will give me a more flatering look. I just love your Eve dresses. Thank you x

    These are pure eye candy! 😍 I got half way through a mock-up of the Eve dress and got discouraged, but I've progressed quite a bit in skill since, so it's on my list to try again. I know it's supposed to be on the easier side, but that feeling of defeat means needing a bit more of a run-up to the second attempt!

    yay thanks for this! i FINALLY got my machine working again and this is first (or 2nd) up! we have a similar body type (tall, curvyish pear shape) and prefer a little less ease in our tops so i will definitely size down. eventually, i want to make it in a gertie ditsy floral fabric, and maybe if the opera opens up again this year some sort of charmeuse. mood has these beautiful ombre charmeuses...

If I’m not mistaken, I’m pretty sure you made a white one that you wore to a wedding. This is such a pretty dress and when I finally get around to sewing it up, I’ll definitely use a lot of your adjustments. Just had a thought when you were talking about the straight sleeves - might this work in a draper viscose jersey? The sleeves should be less of an issue that way. ❤️

    Don't even out the hems of the eve dresses you've made as they are gorgeous.If you want to try it on another make that's different.Thanks for all your details.How do you attach the binding to the dress edges? When making the long sleeves was there a reason you didn't use the sleeve pattern from the eve dress and slash and spread to get the width.I love that you wear what you love whenever you want to.

    • @KittenishBehaviourSian
      @KittenishBehaviourSian  4 года назад

      I attach the bias binding in my usual way (there is a mini tutorial for that). I didn't slash and spread and lengthen the straight Eve sleeve because I'm lazy and that's a lot of work when the 7537 sleeve was already perfect 😉

    Hi Sian all of your Eves are stunning and look like something straight from Net a Porter. Have you shown on any of your videos how you apply the burrito method to the shoulder panels,I can’t get my brain round that? I have only used it on a shirt waister yoke.

    Thank you, I’ve got the pattern and the fabric on order. I’ve watched Lisa’s sew along which is great but I love the changes you make. I am a bit confused about the neck though 🤔 do you attach the twill tape first then add bias binding on top of that? (I’m obviously a novice! 😂) A little tutorial on that would be great 👍 xx

    • @KittenishBehaviourSian
      @KittenishBehaviourSian  4 года назад +1

      attach the twill tape as per the intsructions. The bias binding is just to give a pretty finish to the edge 😊

    do you use cotton bias binding? Like the pre-made ones you can purchase? or do you make viscose bias binding yourself to use? I'm always worried about mixing fibers and possible shrinking. Thanks for this video! Eve is one of my absolute favorite patterns!
