    Even if you can make a dress in a day it's still more time and effort than shopping. I hope some day I have the skills to make a dress in a day. That's why I watch all your videos, they're great!❤ Right now I could make a pencil case in a day. 🤣

    • @tinkthestrange

      So long as you aren’t too big or too small than a regular store it’s more effort. And as long as your body isn’t abnormally shaped. Many people have a really hard time shopping, even online. I know someone who spends as much time returning items as she spends shopping because she is abnormally short and oddly shaped so nothing fits the way she likes. And if she keeps things she often has to take it to get tailored, so that’s time and effort as well. But yes, most people don’t have that issue.

    • @cabinfeverremedy5636

      @@tinkthestrange i hear you. I actually started sewing because i can't find anything nice in the store at my size. ☹ That's why I'm factoring in the time it takes to learn the skills. It's a dress in a day...plus the years it took you to get this good. But truth be told when i get to the point where i can make "a dress in a month" that would probably be quite enough to cover my needs.😉

    Hobbies should never be a race, even if it is your job. The only deadlines are what we impose on ourselves. LOVE the facing detail - will have to remember that one. And, as usual, you made me put yet another pattern on my wish list LOL.

    It is a spectacular dress, so young and fresh. Unfortunately, I am almost 80 years old, shaped like a sack of potatoes so no matter how much I love the dress i could never wear it. That said I really enjoyed your video and your way of presenting things and look forward to watching more.

    Looks great! So glad you didn't compromise on finish. It really does bug me when Dress in a day videos cut corners, because it sort of defeats the purpose of all the time and effort. It also doesn't really help deal with fast fashion if all you then start doing is fast sewing. Not that what you are doing is, as you say its your job, you have a brilliant set up to allow you to get through a lot of stuff, plus you have the time :)

    Absolutely stunning! Love it. Comparing fast fashion/fast sewing - I think it’s good to know if needed that you could sew a garment in a day/weekend if required for an occasion, and don’t have to go ‘shopping’ for an outfit. That’s my take on it anyway. AND highly unlikely anyone else will be wearing same as you BONUS 🤣

    I just love your dress Sian and no way does it 'count' as 'fast fashion'. I equate 'fast fashion' as being made with poor quality fabric, rough sewing, sold in chain boutiques, and these clothes I feel, is marketed to young girls and women and are very cheap in price. Love to Chiana and Susie xxx

    The dress turned out beautifully! 😍 I really liked the idea of using a red contrast but there’s always something to be said for using fabric from the stash. And with the large polka dots, the black stands out well against the floral as well. I’m always impressed when someone sews a garment in a day and as long as the construction and finishes aren’t compromised, I don’t see anything wrong with that kind of personal challenge. If it’s achieved by “making” a dress with fabric glue... well, let’s better not talk about that.
    If I may, the band with our names across the bottom of the screen is getting way too fast. It’s awesome that there are so many of us, but it’s completely unreadable and is messing with my eyes to the point where I avoid looking at the screen until it’s over. And I’m not normally sensitive to such things. You have the lovely graphic at the end as well, and personally, I think that serves the purpose much better. Maybe ask how other patrons feel about it? I can hardly claim to speak for everyone. ❤️

    I love the dress Sian! Beautiful inside and out 😊 I much prefer this spotty fabric to the red one. The reason being is because both fabrics you have used have the same background colour so for that reason I think they go better. I might even like it more than your other pattern mixed dress 🙈 I do like the other dress but prefer this one. It may be the fabric combo and the fact that you look really lovely in wrap dresses. I might even copy this idea sometime ❤️💛❤️😘

    Hi Sian, so glad that I saw this other video on the dress. I have finally finished it, It has taken me a few weeks to make, due to fba adjustments, fabric that was flimsy and stretchy, which I had to stabilise with all over interfacing ( very lightweight type), then lining it all. This obviously made the french seams rather thick. I agree with you concerning the facings, as I have had to stitch them down to stop them from popping over. I also bound them with bias binding, had I have thought about it, I needn't have used it, as I had lined the whole of the top of the bodice as well. That's another learning curve. I will make the next one without the facings, and use the bias binding instead, as you suggest, all around.
    When you wrap the ties around you, can you tell me how you wrap them around you to sit at the side of the dress? Also I was considering shortening the length of the dress at the back, would I then need to shorten the two front sides as well? I thought that this may make the opening at the front of the dress a little high up. What do you think? You have inspired me to make another with all the tweaks you've made. My only gripe is, that the fabric I have bought has a tendency to crease again, aaargh. But I am not going through the painstaking trouble of lining it again.
    What do you suggest is the best type fabric to make this dress with ? Crepe comes to mind.
    Anyway, thanks for a very informative sew along, if I can manage to upload a photo of the dress I've made, I will send it to you. Best wishes Val.

    What a stunning result! I feel like this Butterick pattern is what M7745 is trying to be. The M7745 skirt is fine (lovely, even) but the bodice has the oddest fit in the torso and shoulders that I've seen on any commercial pattern. When I made it recently I ended up having to chuck the bodice and squish on an Eve bodice to save it. Anyway, with this Butterick pattern's style lines being so similar, it feels like it makes the M7745 a bit superfluous.

    Fun fun fun.... twirly dresses are so much fun (and so impossible to buy it seems, seeing things like the latest email from M&S).
    I now get 5 metres of fabric for dresses by default... thanks!! ;-)
    French seams are cool... my mum taught them how to do them as a teenager! Current dress has/will have a combination of French seams (the simple ones), bound seams (the less simple ones), and hand-felled (the sleeve heads). Oh and hand-sewn bias-faced hem (just because). Yes I know you can do French seams at complicated intersections, but I've never managed to get them tidy (and I have watched your French seams on pocket video multiple times).

    Hi Sian, the dress is beautiful. What width bias binding do you use and where do you get it from? Do you think it would be possible to draft the ruffle to go around the back of the neck rather than stop at the collar bone. I’m so inspired by your dress that I’ve just ordered this pattern and would like the ruffle on the bodice to continue around the neck line.

  • @NavyRev

  • @luvshus
    @luvshus 2 года назад

    2 questions about the dress, which is beautiful. First one is could the ruffle at the neckline be continued around the full neckline including around the back of the neck? Second one is does the doubling up of the ruffle fabric affect how the dress hangs?

    • @KittenishBehaviourSian
      @KittenishBehaviourSian  2 года назад

      You'd need to draft the ruffle pieces but for sure it could be made to go around the entire neckline. I've only made the dress with doubled ruffles so can't comment on how a single one hangs but I haven't noticed anything "off" about the 4 I've made 😊
