Thank you for this review and inspiration. I love the dress and have some brown linen that I think will look great with a contrast top stitching. Your Matilda looks great on you! Wow!
I love this dress! 😍 And the print suits the style very well. I think it would also look lovely in something almost solid like a chambray, that would go well with the more utilitarian look. Matilda is definitely going on my mental for-later shopping list. Because I have to rethink my pattern storage; I’m running out of shelves! ❤️
Fabulous dress!! I like the belt with it. If you do a solid version I would love to see the details such as pockets, yoke, placket etc. in a different colour to the main dress and really go to town with top stitching. xxx
I think the dress looks great. I am slightly tempted to make it - only slightly, as I really don't do dresses - but I could see me wearing it on an autumn day in the UK with boots and a little cardi or jacket
Sian, this is absolutely stunning on you. You did a super duper job. I am sure this is going to be a Fav in the future.. I love how you use the pattern again and again and tweak and hash different elements. I sent you an email a couple of weeks ago. I know you said you were behind. :) so don't worry if you don't get round to it lol
The blue on you looks amazing. The dress is beautiful on you. I think it’s one of those dresses I would look at on a hanger and say meh. But seeing it on you, it’s anything but meh 😁. I checked out the sleeves on the pattern website and I really like the length of them. Short enough to be classified a short sleeve, and long enough to not hit at that awkward spot at the bust line. I really hope to see you do the dress with those sleeves.
It's a really lovely dress! A shirt dress is on my make nine and I'm compiling a list of patterns for it since I can't make up my mind, the Matilda will go on the list.
Sooo cute! Methinks you're right, long sleeves would also look awesome. Only recently started topstitching- it is scary!🤯 Credit to you, it looks purrrrfect.😄
The Matilda is my all time favorite shirtdress. I am so glad you talked about the wavy sleeve do-dads. I thought it was just the way I did it. Nevertheless, I always always get compliments when I wear mine and I love it also. I have another in the pipeline in a multi-coloured Leaf print cotton. I would love to hear how cutting the sleeve do-dads on the bias worked. Yours is lovely. Did you use interfacing on the sleeve pieces here?
Love the dress, especially the shoulders 🥰 It looks really good on you. I can imagine making it, but I‘m afraid of top stitching to be honest 🥲 But maybe it eould look good without it too 🙃
Great fabric/ pattern pairing - looks fabulous on you. I have made a solid red version in linen and also a hacked version to make a separate skirt and top - added length to the bodice. In the linen version I also hacked the pocket to that it is patched onto the inside - so you see the top stitching on the outside, but not the folded edged of the fabric. On the second version I mixed and matched three different designers of the same fabric. Thanks for the top stitching tip! Will also try your idea regarding the sleeve bands. I found the front placket was too short - but maybe that was because I added length - can’t remember.
My favorite way to get edges turned under on 2 matching pockets is to baste them together at the edge you want to turn under. Turn them right side out and then press the h@!! out of them remove the basting,
Hi Sian, I wondered how you are doing such a neat finish on the inside of the collar, until you mentioned to do the "top" stiching from the inside for a neater finish first. I often struggle with that issue, and I still don't understand how you are doing this, because when you are topstitching from the outside later, too, that will show off also on the inside? This really is very headscratching for me 🤣, every time Ím sewing collars. Or also button-bands. Because when the first upper buttons are open, everyone can see the inside. Can you please please do a video to show this (to me) miracle? 👗🪄
The pattern explains it really well. The only extra thing I do, which I show in the video, is baste the lining wrong side together with the outer pieces before following the burrito instructions in the booklet 😊
I also think that it is better not to topstitch the part of the pocket that crosses the breast pocket. Sometimes your instincts lead you to make good decisions that are then difficult to explain, but they work better....
Ohooo - loving the Blue leaves and the Matilda Dress. Gorgeous.
I like the blue better than the green, actually. It looks amazing.
Blue is my favorite color so, yes please, I want this dress 👗 💙🥰
Wow, the blue banana leaf print looks amazing! Almost like denim color which makes it even better to me.
Oh wow!! I love this dress in this fabric, it looks amazing on you! Gorgeous ❤️
So lovely, it screams safari. Im sold. Love it.
Yours looks so much better than the envelope picture. I think the sleeves look great tbh. The blue is lovely 😍
That looks very modern...awesome.
I love so much this dress on you, I immediately bought the pattern. 😉
Slow clap 👏 Stunning dress!! I love it with the belt. Again, such a great print. Well done!!
You should do a video rating all the shirt dresses you’ve done. And… I like this one.
The dress looks great on you; I particularly like the contrasting top stitching! 💕

A lovely dress and pattern!
Looks so good!!!
Love it belted!
Lovely, this would make an awesome denim dress!
The dress is lovely. The topstitching in white was intrepid, but it looks striking and perfect!

Quite a smart looking dress! Also, like your sewing ideas.
This dress looks awesome on you - such a 'you' pattern and it's great!
Love it! 🤩🤩🤩
It's beautiful! Great tip about the order of operations for topstitching the placket. I'll remember that one.
Wonderful dress, looks great. Interesting tips
Gorgeous dress, Sian! The fabric is such a lovely colour too. Beautiful.

Very interested to see what cutting the doodads on the bias makes them sit better....
I love this dress - everything about it is gorgeous. It’s very much my style, but I don’t think it’s in my size, unfortunately

I'm making another shirt dress at the moment so I will film the process 😊 hopefully it will be out on Friday 😊
@@KittenishBehaviourSian sounds great! Thank you very much ☺️!

How do you burrito the top and lining. I’m not sure what you mean.
The pattern explains it really well. The only extra thing I do, which I show in the video, is baste the lining wrong side together with the outer pieces before following the burrito instructions in the booklet 😊
