@@protector_of_the_realms You would have a point if it weren't for the fact that the guy himself said that the virtual depiction of guns in video games is why he wouldn't be able to handle being involved with CoD or battlefield. And as for it being compartmentalised, again you would have a good point if it weren't for the fact that the guy himself made it clear that his issue is in regards to being *involved* in a the production of those games, hence him generally stating that he doesn't think he could work on such games, so it doesn't matter what role he has. It's the fact that he is involved in the development of such games would be an issue for him.
Furthermore, the second sentence of his tweet clearly states that he has experienced this exact issue/difficulty for him while working on Halo.
And finally, if it was a non-issue and not relevant to him due to his specific role, then he wouldn't have made this tweet to begin with.

Honestly I think this specifically is a non story and not a big deal that’s been blown out of proportion. He’s a producer yeah? So he’s not working in the creative departments or the actual making of the game firstly, he’s just managing the people, schedules and resources. I don’t think anything is going to get in the way of the stuff he’s doing and he’s not going to actively sabotage the project. But people are allowed to have different beliefs contradictory to what their game is about. I don’t think the people making Assassins Creed believe that mythological figures in ancient cultures such as Juno actually were an advanced race that predated humans and have technology and weapons of destruction that influenced historical events up until today lol. People just need to chill. 343 has much bigger and blatant issues than someone who doesn’t like violence in real life but is working on a game that depicts violence in a managerial role. If you’re going to make hiring only people that love guns as a requirement, you are going to end up with a horrible work environment and horrible game

@@protector_of_the_realmsI think you’ve missed why this is an issue. It’s not an issue of being pro or anti gun. Plenty of original bungie devs were all over the political spectrum. The issue is that these politics have gripped this person’s mind to the point where they can’t even bring themselves to work on fiction, just because it depicts realistic guns. While sure that is their personal moral prerogative and they’re free to live that way, it’s this whole mindset pervading games, movies, and just corporations in general, the belief that everything they do has to be a political statement and everything has to align with these values even in their stories. While yes, one producer doesn’t define a whole studio, with how much this ultra progressive culture and ideology is present and even enforced at 343 (they’re far from the only one mind you) I wouldn’t be surprised at all if many who work there feel the same. People of course shouldn’t be hired or fired based on personal beliefs. But a culture that only allows one belief, which only allows for certain stories that align with certain perspectives to be told, is creatively bankrupt. This is just one more addition to the track record indicating this type of stuff at 343 (and to your credit, their actual performance speaks for itself, and this producer’s personal belief is really nothing in comparison to their collective tangible failures)

Every bit of the design is babyish, Reach was the last massive hit halos had and its the furthest the series has ever strayed from that feeling. 343 surviving whilst so many good studios have been shit down this last year is a joke. Every inch of it is incompetent, No restructuring is fixing anything, the whole thing needs to burn and halo needs to be released to devs who earn it. they've ran it into the ground, and the best anyone can hope for as long as they're around is mildly better mediocrity. Its corrupt at its roots evidenced by people like this still running things.

The problem here is when people get hired because of diversity, because they check a particular box. That's pandering. That's insulting even for the diverse community because it basically turns a community into a tokenizable tool.
You should be hired because you are the best at what you do. If the best director in the entire world for a Halo game happens to check all diversity boxes in the entire color spectrum of flags, then hire them immediately, but because of their Halo knowledge and love for the franchise, not because of anything else.

The first entry in the series is literally called COMBAT evolved! I agree with everything that Mint and Hailey said, if you as an individual are uncomfortable with the themes or concepts of THE ENTIRE SERIES then don’t work on it! This isn’t about just one person, this is EVERYONE at ANY game dev studio. Work on games that you actually enjoy making, instead of taking something that you don’t like and turning it into something you do, ruining it for everyone else who enjoyed how it was before.
This is literally like being a decal artist for a car shop, someone comes in and has a specific request for a specific car, and you just scrap their car, get a different style and brand altogether, and do it how you want because YOU like it. It’s not tolerated in that profession, and it shouldn’t be tolerated in this one.
I actually work in automotive, and I rather like that analogy.

The problem is there are people, a considerable number of people actually, who are working on an I.P. that they want NOTHING to do with or know NOTHING about. Remember how bad Halo 5: Guardians was? That’s because the ENTIRE DEV TEAM knew nothing about Halo. Literally nothing, none of them had ever played any of the previous games, read any books or lore, they didn’t even know Master Chief was the main character (which is why more than half the game is focused on Locke).
Personally I don’t have a problem with people wanting to be pacifist. But if YOU as a game dev working on an FPS have a problem with it and want to change that I.P. to fit YOUR opinion and ruin it for everyone else, THEN I have a problem with it.

@@protector_of_the_realms the fact that he said he STRUGGLED means it's effecting his role... since it's not just managing people, resources, and schedules. He also needs to check in with all of these people, check how things look and how things are going.
So while he's not in charge of design what he says can and will have an effect on the game as a whole because if he doesn't like something he can 100% tell them to 'make it look more sci-fi' or 'okay but what if we go this way?' and they'll remake the design or tweak their current design. He can also short the team designing the guns the resources they need to actually make good looking guns.
This is a job, if his beliefs are effecting his job he needs to quit or else it can and will effect the quality of the product.

As a veteran, I can understand the moral complexities of a game that centers around warfare. And as you said, there are many themes that are in the lore for this franchise that are pretty bad.
If he sincerely does have issues with this type of stuff, he probably should find another game to work on. It’s not fair to him to make him deal with these issues if they bother him this much, and it’s unfair to the fans if they compromise the franchise to make it to where he can handle it. It’s better for both sides if he goes elsewhere. Nothing against him. It’s just what would be best for everyone in my opinion.

They even made the content creator Halo Canon have a mental breakdown and stop uploading videos. It's also dog water because they butchered the source material. The Halo we loved is dead. We can go back and play it and relive what made us Spartans but brother Thermopylae has been overrun.

You know, Halo used to celebrate and give thanks to real life active military and veterans In the way they portrayed its own fictional military.
I always noticed it, and appreciated it.
The marines, the navy, the Air Force and the army all got love in the bungle games.
Hell even the ODST drew heavily from our real world Airborne in spirit and attitude.
It’s sad that 343 never continued that legacy of honoring the service.
My dad was in the Air Force for almost 30 years. When I was a kid I saw him and what he did reflected in halo and I always thought that was cool.

They want something that can chase tends and make as much money as possible. They don’t care about continuing a story or even the characters in the story. All they see is hey look it’s the master chief oh look over here it’s buck but you’ll never hear about him till the next book no one will read. It saddens me to type that but it’s the reality. Almost no one in a leadership role at these 2 companies ACTUALLY cares…

It's a game...about a Super Soldier...fighting a war...sometimes on different planets or planetoid spaces. How in the hell, can you actively choose to work for a company that you KNOW is going to make a WAR GAME, when that's your stance on guns? Like, you had to actually go out of your way to request a position within the company, to work for them. They didn't just pick your name out of a hat and told you that you're landlocked into an agreement for 18 months with them.

It’s like this under god damn every Microsoft franchise, Gears of War 4 and 5 had issues very similar Halo 4 and 5, Fable 4 has been in development hell for who knows how long at this point, Minecraft has been on a downward trajectory since Microsoft bought Mojang and their “Bedrock Edition” which Microsoft has been trying to make the main version is a buggy microtransaction filled mess, and the only reason I have ANY hope in the new Doom game is because the Microsoft buyout was relatively recent (It’s likely been in development since before the buyout) and because ID has really only dropped the ball with the Wolfenstein reboot and not with Doom.

Being raised along side halo pretty much step by step. Born in 2002 and by the time i could even understand who i was i had an xbox controller on my hand and i followed every story and inch of the human covenant war. The passion and love i felt for john 117 led me to even the farthest reaches of the internet in search of other spartan enthusiasts. After the fall of bungie i noticed the loss of passion in the project and it wasnt till i was 18-19 i realized the story wasnt getting old it was the creators where where giving in to the new wave of developers who didnt give a rats ass about the gamer. This person is a fine exsample of not only whats wrong with the world today but the whats wrong with the developers community. who are you to take what i love from me because it makes you uncomfortable. Im a heart broken individual who wishes that people like this would make the right decision.

I've really, really gave 343 so many chances. So many years of suffering because I've loved the golden years so much. I am actually sick of this franchise and 343 right now. I uninstalled MCC and Infinite. 343 is going to have to pull something life changing to get me to fall in love with this IP again.

I still wish 343 could learn a bit from Fallout New Vegas' first release for Halo Infinite, it started out a mess but the devs fixed the game. I want 343 to have a "Developer's Cut" for the Halo Infinite campaign like having biomes, animal npcs, and a Far Cry 5 way of taking down each boss by destroying the Banished's recourses so the open world would be more convenient.

As a mental health professional, Id say its wrong to say someone being uncomfortable with something has mental issues. We all have stuff we are uncomfortable with and often in places that we work. To say they cant work there is also off I think (depending on certain specifics). I looked up a game producer and managing teams and the like has less to do with inspiration and creativity and more to do with organization and time management. I could be wrong since I have never worked in games but I think unless we know their full job responsibilities its hard to say. Also just because you are uncomfortable does not mean it affects the game. People often overcome their feelings to do work. Again its hard to say without specifics. I agree with your nice statement of they should seek another workplace for their mental health though that could be the best job money and geography wise. Not an easy thing to do. It was a good video and still something to discuss considering how Halo did turn out. Be kind, them sharing this was probably not easy
