Blaming the community is complete BS. Not our fault 343 has failed Halo over their reign of the franchise. People deserved to be fired after making complete failures of a game. They had multiple chances but did not live up to what was expected.

Yeah what 343 did is bad, but you wanna know what Bungie did to him? They took his story he had been constructing for years and ripped it apart to sell as DLC later, in fragmented, nonsensical bits that lost all the narrative and intricacies it had before. Joseph was so distraught that he ended up leaving Bungie before Destiny even launched. Didnt even stay for the major pay check once the game released. 343 is bad... but not nearly as bad as Bungie
That’s horrible I didn’t know that happened to him. It seems like the execs in all major studios, don’t respect those that helped propel there company forward. Joe staten and Marty o’Donell could’ve easily been the George Lucas of the halo universe but unfortunately for them, they don’t own the rights. In an alternate universe these guys could’ve made something special for the gaming/entertainment industry. Seems like they don’t want competition
1600 people at Bungie today. Only 165 at Reach, and only 70 worked on ODST. 445 employed at 343i, with around 300 jettisoned since Infinite. It's nice to have these numbers, because the Halo trilogy was made by a very small bunch of nerds and geniuses who didn't like each other very much, but they got the job done.

We know modern Bungie is awful and I doubt anyone wants that Bungie to touch Halo, what we want is for the original Halo creators to work on it once again instead of clown industries
I only liked bungies Halo games. Whatever happened after that or before that, I don't really care. It does suck though. Joe seems like a great dude. Get him, marty and the rest of the gang back together and make a Halo killer of a game. A game so good, 343 will shit their pants and quit.

Senior leadership positions are typically contract-based. While he may not have been literally "fired/laid off", not renewing his contract is the corporate exec equivalent. If he wanted to stay, 343 should be ashamed of letting his talent and experience go.

Have you ever worked in Corp environments before? Senior Corp positions are never contract based, only in low level Corp positions. These guys were pushed out from thier POV, that's it.

I've known about D.E.I. for years now and I've seen its effect on the games industry. It was gradual at first but now it deeply integrated thanks to companies like Sweet Baby Inc. who's lead employees advocate for bulling companies into follow their agenda, which led to games like Suicide Squad and Forspoken.

343 is unfortunately on fire it would seem and the higher ups decided to put the fire out with a flamethrower and some napalm can't wait to see how they deal with the flooding but honestly I'm not surprised they've been getting torn apart with all the dumb decisions that are being enforced. Honestly miss the fun atmosphere the most, it used to be pretty welcoming when I was a kid
Fr bro remember how easy it was to have a good time back then? Now it feels like 90% of the discussions are just arguments, I got too tired from it. Haven't played halo for about over a year now 343 really dug it into a hole. Now I watch the first video on the series in ages and it seems even worse than before. Really is a shame me and halo go all the way back to when I was about 4 years old. What's crazy as well is halo 5 had so much backlash about the story and stuff yet the good moments were there too. With Infinite it just feels like this bottomless pit of drama, bad development decisions and disappointment after many chances.
I am not surprised that 343 doesn't have a core team. Look at the state of infinite.

Welp, as a huge fan of the series. I have given up on Halo being what it was once. Whatever, drama surrounding it doesn't matter at this point. If they can't get a solid team of creators to have the vision of what "Halo" is, its just going to be Call of Duty-fied no matter what.
Microsoft needs to make Halo open source. I want to see talented and passionated studios try their hand at Halo.
And if they don't, people should start reverse engineering the engine.

I was playing halo infinite, first time in months by the way, been a player since the beginning of halo combat evolved. Then listened to this video as well as Mint Blitz's video and immediately logged off. The amount of sadness and frustration that runs through my veins to hear this is just sickening. The heads of 343 and Microsoft really destroyed something that so many held dear to their hearts. Halo was so unique and so incredible that it completely transcended gaming and the online gaming community that followed. To disrespect and not hire members who created such a masterpiece that touched so many peoples lives is just disgusting. They even went as far as to create a television show that tainted the image of our beloved universe by not even following the lore. Halo with the original members of bungie really did create something so special and I'm so blessed to have been able to experience their hard working end product. It's shameful that this has happened to Halo and If any of the heads of 343 or Microsoft read this, (which is rare, i know) - gtfo out of the game industry, you obviously don't care about anything other than money which is sad. RIP Halo.
You sir have made me cry just by reading this, i have felt the same way. Halo was my lifeline and my childhood, may sound weird but id play some steve downs quotes for master chief when i was low and it always got me on my feet. To see my idol of a game fall to such bullshit scandals has brought me to tears and fits of rage. Im happy to see people feel as pissed and disgusted about what this work of art has fallen to.

Being laid off/ paid to leave myself, they usually have in the agreement a clause that prevents you from talking about the situation/ putting anything negative about the company publicly or working for competitors. It's essentially hush money. If you break the agreement, they reserve the right to reclaim the settlement amount paid to said ex employee.

We also have to understand The uncanny valley, basically is a hypothesized psychological and aesthetic relation between an object's degree of resemblance to a human being and the emotional response to the object. Then you have the revelation of the method, there science has been generating fearful scenarios; they quite frankly are not that much different from the ones science fiction writers have conjured decades ago. We have seen in movies and TV shows, themes that arguably are creating a revelation of the method with regard to how our humanity will gradually accept a “replicant future.” You have DARP creating suits and weapons like we see in Halo.... A lot of stuff from sci-fi past has come into fruition.

343 needs to be fully liquidated and have the OG bungie team be funded to create their own studio for halo by microsoft. Full reboot of the franchise is all that can save it with the OGs at the helm.

It's possible that they DID "stepdown" and leave but by an ultimatum by the company, forcing them to quit. A place I work for did that. They didn't want to fire this guy because they didn't want him to draw unemployment (for the 24 hours he got that whole month) so they had him scheduled to work on days where he was supposed to be at his second job.

In any company and I mean every company they will always fire and restructure lower levels and almost always never touch management. When you get in high up position there is a bit of pay to play and keep your job, not always does it come down to skills and ability.
The biggest complaint with Halo under 343 has been the campaigns. Halo 4 was average at best. Wasn't horrible. I gave it a 6 out of 10. Halo 5 was absolute dog shit. A 2 out of 10. So they decided to hire Joe for Halo Infinite and it was actually pretty good. I gave it a 8.5 out of 10. So what did 343 decide to do when they finally made a good campaign? Fire the guy who made it. Unfucking believable.
I really liked Halo 4 campaign and the direction I felt the Reclaimer saga could have went but 5 crapped on everything. I liked Halo Infinite as the game progressed but felt that it crapped on the one good thing that came from Halo 5 (the created). My biggest issue regarding 343 is the fact that it seems like they either have no vision or so weak that they can't stick to it when faced with criticism.
Now that I got into company business and being basically just under the main boss who leads the company I can say those layoffs were made purely out of money purposes,money that goes into the company leads pockets.Joe being fired was probably one of those situations,(they didnt need him)
Halo is just exhausting and depressing watching 343/MS destroy a legacy. Least we got to look forward to more cashshop junk for it all go to waste when or IF the next halo is released... CoD-ifed even more. Halo NEEDS to be HALO with a focus on fun and not generic ESPORTZ. Such a shame X box buying Activision pretty much doomed a whole lot of games. Should just sat in limbo.
I just had such a chill Helldivers moment with these randoms, just talking about the game and future possibilities covering each other backs and laughing. It brought back classic memories it was nice... getting excited for new weapons and vehicles and enemies. Meanwhile 343's Halo is just a pit of drip feed """content""" no excitement and silence that fills the grave because no one ever talks in it.
I think the coincidental departure of certain individuals from 343i at the same time of the drastic job cuts was to water down the number people would see on media articles. In other words, Microsoft may have given certain employees the option to “quit” when shown the door instead of being straight-up fired.
Hypothetically, instead of firing 100 employees, you convince 20 to quit so when the media reports your job cuts, they would post “80 employees were let go” rather than “100 employees were let go.” While job cuts are sad to sea, executives at Microsoft have an incentive to downplay their shortcomings to investors.
Furthermore, I never like Mint and his content for the longest time. However, I don’t think people should have resentment towards him for his video due to the plausible reality behind Joe’s departure. At the end of day, Microsoft and 343i studio leadership is the ones to blame. So please direct your rage towards the ones who destroyed Halo.

I would be in pure heaven if Joseph Staten went to work for CIG, probably the most exciting company in the sci fi gaming space right now. With that said, their dialogue lacks. Which some of the best actors in the world in the Squadron 42 project, to have the dialogue be the thing holding them back is tragic. I know Joe can do wonders with the star citizen universe.

Loving Halo isn't enough. We need people who are capable and competent. I love halo, but I don't have the skills to fill the role as much as I would want to. I'd rather have people who know what they are doing before all else. Joe Staten was one of those people. So was Martin O Donald. Why they never hired Bungie people urks me the wrong way.

I've had the option to work for 343 Industries, I turned down the offer in turn to work as a driver developer at AMD, I know 343 Industries wouldn't have been a long term job seeing how Halo Infinite was taking the beating it had done being a Halo fan I'd have loved nothing more to take the job.
I now am however working for Shift Up on Project Eve, which is seriously the most fun and laid back yet stern developer I've worked at as long as the works done to a high standard you're good.

When I was at the airport to fly home I saw John looking at the flights , went up to em and started talking about the game and future updates .. he’s a great guy I love John but he deviated away from any talks of new games , networking , and etc. all is good business I guess .

I’ve actually had my hope restored that bungie may be able to buy the game back from Microsoft. The last dlc for destiny just came out, and it’s actually really good, so I think they’ve restored some quality control and are now gonna be looking for a new big project. The dlc has also sold pretty well, and given how much 343 has tanked halo’s value, bungie may be able to afford it again. Whether they do or not though, it’s no question that 343 needs to be dismantled and someone else needs to take the reins.

If there's ever a next time, it's not a good idea to sell colors and armor. It never was nor ever will be. It doesn't matter how many people spent money on it. I would have played WAY more Infinite if I could have earned my look.

We need a petition to get 343 removed from halo. I’ll be honest, I had faith in 343 for a long time with halo infinite. When I watched the trailers from 2018 and 2019 showing the classic art style I was excited to see something awesome to come from halo again. Flash forward 5 years later, I see now that most of it was manipulation tactics to draw us in to it. Then they don’t release the content that was promised, cut 2/3s of the campaign and left us with imo a good but far from amazing story. Now I see that they fired people and avoided people who were bungie employees on the old games. There is no redemption arc for them now. All we halo fans have now are memories of the past games with our friends.

Even if he was fired that doesn't mean that he couldn't reapply do whatever company they have work on Halo in the future. He certainly qualified for it.

I am a huge fan of a halo; I been a fan of halo since I was 3 years old, now I am a lot older, I wish the 343 Industry would hired me, because I know a lot of the lore and would want to see the outcome to be the best; it can be for normal players, and the other’s in the community. I have all the qualifications, I know coding, very knowledgeable about the game engine that their using, and very resourceful, but they would never hired their biggest fan anyway.
I’ve been with Halo from day one if I was one of the lucky ones that got to beta the original halo… all good stories have a beginning of middle and an end I think it’s time that Halo was put to sleep.. let the game end and make something new and exciting.. we don’t need any more halo games
