Its such a shame, all these large scale corporations have these massive and expansive universes under their belts that the potential for limitless stories to be told and experiences to be had and all they ever wanna do dump all their resources into over confident uncreative corporate safe projects that either flop entirely or just do ok at best like youd think an entity that has millions at its disposal would be able to create the best work around but theyre either too scared, too uncommitted, of both to actually pursue something thatll actually result in something overtly successful

Because with their hyper-inflated budgets, there's too much at stake; too much to potentially lose. When they dump the GDP of a small country into a video game, they want to basically ensure they will make their money back, so they make the most sterile, safe, inoffensive slop possible to ensure they don't potentially lose money on something that was *too* creative or *too* out-there to have mass-market appeal. It's why every AAA company is making the same freaking game right now; a generic 6v6 hero shooter seems to be the new trend, a few years ago it was the "linear 3rd person over-the-shoulder cinematic ghost train ride", and a few years before that it was battle royale.

It's almost as if a company's value is measured in their quarterly reports. If they take a gamble and fail, their margins won't be hit and investors will pull out. Remember, games exist to make a profit.

Ironically, there's over 20+ plus years of rich CANON LORE of the HALO world, which 343 could work with, yet over the years, 343 refuses to do any research and use it. The desire to play in a HALO world has become mentally painful. Now, the go-to fix is searching out canon via novels.

Jus to add my comments to the mix, and I have said this before elsewhere, but if 343 DOES NOT follow through on their promise for Halo Infinite, I will NOT buy anything from them. Ever. They have broken our trust far too many times for the fans to continue to bail them out. Now, I am under no illusions that they will fix Infinite and provide 3-4 DLCs for the campaign, but that will dictate MY future with Halo. And I loved Halo. As far as I am concerned, they should hand the reigns over to a competent company for the future of this franchise.

Gotta say fire team raven gave a cool and fun expansion on the story of halo ce and like if they are doing a halo ce remake then maybe add some of that. Have the origional levels but also expand on them, add new missions and maps or maybe even use the dire base from fire team raven (cant remember its name) as a staging ground for the main missions after Halo and have the fire base as a hub that you can help defend against on coming attacks form the covenant, and later the flood up until the final story mission on the pillar of autumn. Maybe have supply or support missions where you render aid to the marines or heck maybe assist in getting them to pelicans before the last couple of missions which could then end on the same ending except dor day the legendary ending after the whole "all thats left is dust and echoes" scene have a transmission come in from the pelican that's in the book based straight after the origional game which would be a good nod to the old story whilst also somewhat explaning how some marines including Johnson survived to the old fans whilst helping tie together the story's of halo ce to 2 without confusing newer fans and making the mcg an easier experience to follow just that smaller bit.

I’m gonna say something a little unpopular, but it might be met with some agreement from fans. I think that Halo needs to make other spin off games. Make another Halo Wars, make a Halo game focusing on a character(s) that’s not master chief. While simultaneously making the Halo games that do focus on him. They need to branch off. At the same time though at the end of the day, I still contest that the thing that ruined Infinite was it inability to be a finished game on release with everything it needed. With how many games come out nowadays and the options people have at their hands. It’s more important than ever to be ready at lunch and they failed. At the same time, they also shot themselves in the foot by following so many of the things that are hurting online gaming right now. It was a collective disaster… and that is coming from somebody who thinks that Infinite is actually fun to play.

343 should have done this from the beginning, they should have cut their teeth on a self contained Halo game similar to ODST or Reach before taking the reigns of the Master Chief storyline. I blame Microsoft for not allowing this to happen, I think their primary concern following Bungie's departure was to get the Master Chief back onto the front of Doritos packets rather than fostering the long term health of the franchise.

There’s so many different stories they could tell, so much potential. But instead they’ve been tunnel visioned for so long with the mainline games that it seems as if they’ve forgotten what makes Halo, Halo. It isn’t just the Master Chief, it isn’t just about the Spartans. It’s about every little thing that makes the universe so alluring. So many different plot threads that are already woven into the story, yet they decide to keep making their ‘own stories’. It needs to stop 😔

The issue I see is that 343 wants to keep the old fans in so much they pay for new games, books and other materials but don’t want their opinions or interest in anyway that isn’t superficial. Halo 4 barely feels related to Halo 3 in terms of narrative and art style, 4 doesn’t matter a lot to the story of 5, and Infinite was a bandaid solution because we all finally had enough. Ever since the beginning all they’ve wanted were new fans, it’s why they changed so much so quickly and it barely feels recognizable to pre 343 games and lore.
I have no faith or trust in 343 anymore despite the years of me thinking they were finally getting it right with Infinite. It’s been close to 15 years since they’ve taken the reins and it’s been disaster after disaster ever since without fail. Now hearing Joe was fired from 343 after everything he had already done and did was my breaking point.

My huge problem with 343's tenure over the franchise is their reliance on comics to advance, establish, and conclude storylines in their universe. Now thats not to say that there shouldn't have been any comics at all but i think its import to acknowledge that most people do not engage with cross-media stories. If you start a story in a game then it should be finished within a game. Similarly, if you want to draw on the events of a comic then you need to reference them properly in game and not assume people already know about them. Granted this in part due to 343's fear of their own narative arcs and a poor response to public criticism but its really no excuse for such a shoddy use of mixed media.

For real, imagine if Star Wars Episode 4 ended on a cliffhanger with the Death Star approaching Yavin-4, and then the next movie starts with the Death Star destroyed, the Empire gone, and some new threat you've never seen before, and you wonder wth happened, only to find out it was all resolved and established in a spinoff comic that maybe like 10-15% of moviegoers might've read.
People who play video games (or watch movies in this example) and people who read comics/novels don't have a lot of crossover.

    • @bjiornbjiorn
      @bjiornbjiorn 3 месяца назад +2

@@fearlesswee5036 There are definitely some parallels between Halo and Star Wars in recent years. I'm particularly thinking of the gap between episodes 8 and 9 where, because of the polarised reception of the last Jedi (ala Halo 4 or 5 ), the Rise of Skywalker throws out almost every plot point developed in that film in an attempt to course correct, regardless of merit (in particular the whole message that you don't have to be descended from someone special to be a hero).
The most obvious example from the Halo side is certainly Cortana as a villain. Regardless of how much it might cheapen the ending of 4, or feel like a character assassination, there are genuine emotional stakes involved in a story dealing with Chief vs Cortana (or indeed the possibility of Chief hunting Halsey after Spartan Ops) that deserve more than just being swept under the rug.

Infinite's campaign just doesn't have any ambition. All the producers know about Halo's story is the fact that Grunts are funny and Master Chief is cool. They have absolutely no clue of how expansive and rich the universe is, they just assume it's supposed to be a spartan story because that's all Halo ever used in its marketing. I love multiplayer, but it has ruined a lot of people's perception of the franchise over the years. 343 doesn't even care enough to make campaign content anymore and it's really sad. But I guess that isn't as profitable as charging money for cosmetics and getting brownie points from competitive players.

The lack of writing quality for many of these franchises is what made me pursue writing in the first place. I kept finding myself going "why didn't they do x, y, and z it is so obvious and easy, but its cool!"
But also in pursuing writing, I'm also realizing that a problem with alot of these writers (and many Halo fans are guilty of this) is that they can't discern the difference between lore, world building, character building, and plot. Halo 4 had plot, character building, and lore, but lacked substantial world building. Halo 5 lacked character building, plot, and lore, but was great for world building. Then Halo Infinite had character building, but lacked lore, plot, and world building.
It is sad to me that Doom, the game praised for having as little story as possible, has better character and worldbuilding, lore, and plot than most other games right now. (and this isn't a knock toward doom, I'm saying everything else should surpass Doom in this category)

It seems to be the case that most modern writers are extremely poorly read. How can they reference the Bible or Dante's Inferno when they've never read them and won't read them? Many modern writers think they're far more competent than they actually are, and they think they can write masterful works of fiction without standing on the shoulders of any of the giants that came before them. At best, they seek to reference other modern works of fiction that are similarly shallow.

But this is the way things often go in life. Stories do not last forever, no matter how beloved. Maybe someday Halo will be rediscovered and reborn, and the same magic as infatuated us will be experienced by future generations. But for now, I have accepted that the moment has passed. Halo is dead. All we can do is remember it.

More time and media should have been devoted to the more gritty military side of halo even pre-UNSC, the Jovian Moon campaigns, the CMA, The Insurrectionists ect, it's always annoyed me, The Great War was fought by countless billions of regular Naval, Army, Marine and air force personnel, probably thousands of epic and tragic last stands, delaying actions, feats of bravery and vengeance, both military and civilian, Navy crew knew that every combat situation was basically a suicide mission and still they fought.
Millions of Army garrison forces died ensuring just one more ship loaded with civilians made it off planet, Marines were everywhere constantly alongside ODST's reinforcing needed areas and the ODST's were going on deep raids and suicide runs before the Spartan III's made their ill fated raid on the Covenant refinery.

Hear me out here, I've got two ideas of how it could work off the cuff.
First would be to weave the Arbiter's perspective missions into the original campaign from CE. Similar to Halo 2, but this might feel a tad more janky because we never got his side the first time. But that leads to option 2:
Have two separate campaigns, distinct from one another, one being Halo CE and the other being the Arbiter's perspective. That way you could either jump between the two as you saw fit while playing, or it could be something where beating the original campaign unlocks the arbiter's perspective so you can see the whole story from his eyes now.

I’ve been saying it for years. The 343 has expanded the lore to be too much. In terms of factions. The covenant/flood with the mystery ancient background of forerunners was the best density of lore.
Thus, I strongly recommend that they wind back the clock to early in the Human Covenant war. We play as a young chief, just having his imperatives totally changed from riot control to Hero of humanity. Newly paired with Cortana, we see the development of their relationship where Cortana learns to tolerate and embrace Chiefs strengths, namely his bold unabashed bravery.we also are confronted with the Covenant in a new way, where they are novel, mysterious, and terrifying in a way they haven’t been.
Then, go to the data. Clearly, Halo 3 was a fan favorite and best selling multiplayer and sandbox/physics, gameplay, emulate that style and simplicity faithfully.

Halo has been asleep since Halo 4. The releases of each Halo game made by 343 have shown there is in fact a market out there in the mainstream gaming space for Halo, but its been fumbled every time by 343's inability to maintain not just a live service modern-gaming model, but post-launch game health.
I would be lying if I said 343 hasn't made ....interesting..... story moments and decisions for Halo. The worst of which is obviously Cortana's story not ending in Halo 4 and the subsequent ramifications of her survival. But, now that we are long from that travesty, I cannot lie and say I do not wish to learn more about The Created uprising. I would love to fight (rebalanced) Prometheans again, piss of Sloan, fuck maybe even fight the Executor(s).
I also would love to see the culmination of Atriox, the Banished, and the Endless. For all it's problems, Halo Infinite presented an incredible opportunity to once again flip the power dynamic of the Halo universe, but it failed to deliver. Still, the potential of the Endless, what they are, what Atriox's plans concerning them are, I just want to know!!!!!
Additionally, the resurgence of The Flood is instantly a draw-in for a horror nerd such as myself. And now we know it's back with 100% certainty, with the additional knowledge that we have now ACTUALLY LOST SPARTANS TO THE FLOOD....
Honestly 343's problem (imo) is not their storytelling. Yes, Halo 5 exists, but Halo 4 has a great story (eat my cock), Halo Wars 2 has a good story, and Halo Infinite has great potential. 343 has been laying down excellent groundwork lore-wise for Halo, and they've proven that there is a desire in the general gaming audience for Halo (look at launch #'s for all their games), so the fact they/Microsoft have continued to fumble it is crazy.
But I will always be here. Waiting for the day.
I'm a Destiny fan afterall, not my first rodeo...

Chimeras are even more upgraded Spartans, and so pose a threat to Human freedom heretofore unrealized. Sure, the aliens ruled with firepower, but the Assemblie(s) are actually equal, and perhaps superior, in fighting prowess!
Additionally, the Created have fractured and now fight for either control of worlds or protection of their inhabitants, so the UNSC can ABSOLUTELY team up with certain Assemblies to fight for freedom and survival!
And when the Flood reemerges, everyone will be fighting to retain the diversity of life. Alliances are inevitable.

Also, I would point out this is an entirely new leadership team at 343. Leadership is a massive influence in any workplace, especially gaming. Pierre's record speaks for itself.

@Mikel.mystic I personally don't take issue with that delay because it shows that the Chief left his world/galaxy in one state and then after a few years he returns to it being completely different, even his friend is dying. One of the developers had his mother going through dementia at the time of writing the story and he said he wanted to highlight that process of watching a loved one slowly deteriorate and being unable to do anything.
I think it was a good choice because Halo 3 was a massive action heavy game. In the interest of avoiding power creep telling a more human story of the Chief for the first time in the series being unable to win because his opponent (Cortana's rampancy) is not something he can shoot at was great. I will say, and this is coming from someone who likes Halo 5... bringing her back in Halo 5 seriously cheapened the story of Halo 4. 343 should've had some backbone and left her dead as they wrote a beautiful ending to Cortana

As you have so often demonstrated, Installation00, there is no lacking of creativity in interpreting the Halo universe. But embracing that creativity in a productive manner that advances the cannon (and doesn't insult our intelligence) isn't a priority to 343 and Microsoft. There isn't the willingness to invest in the original IDEA of Halo. The TV series, which of course just HAD to have elements of contemporary wokism and made a mockery of the characters, was a failure we all saw coming from a lightyear away. Really? That's the best "they" could do with such a rich tapestry to draw upon?
We the fans and creators like you, Installation00, should be the primary influencers of the future of Halo. We intimately know what does and doesn't work.

They've never produced a critically or commercially successful product. The fact that they've been allowed to try and fail four times now is astonishing.

I know it’s a small thing, but I want forge for CE and this remake could be a good way of adding that (not that 343 has a good track record with forge) On a wider note: I would love to see a larger selection of multiplayer maps and modes and they should release it all at once, no more drip feeding please.

*343 made Halo is NOT canonical. It's expensive Halo Fan Fiction.* It has deviated, altered, Retconned and hastily re-written Original halo lore FAR too much to properly fit the original narrative themes, timeline, events and character motivations. For the Record I am not denouncing it as "Bad".. but None of their Original work fits. it's a rather gobsmacking "Coda" to the rest of the works.
We're just plain not going to get another proper canonical Halo game if 343 is left to be the adjudicators / arbiters (LOLZ) of the current lore. It's just not possible as they have painted themselves into what should have been an easily avoidable corner.

For me, and for at least one friend, Halo is only the FPS story. I've never even had my Xbox connected to the net. This 'content' thing,.....I've no clue. I just wanted a decent story, and engaging gameplay. Start, have fun within context (i.e. an engaging narrative), finish. Going 'online' to just shoot random psuedo people.....never understood that. Story, investment required. Otherwise, why do I freakin' care?

Halo has no future. It was a lightning in a bottle, the same as the first Xbox.
It was great, we can still enjoy the original games, but there’s no future for this franchise.

My concern with the remake is this:
If they decide to touch anything about the gameplay or story, they could ruin it.
I'm not saying that adding things to an old game is bad, but I have no confidence that any changes they make to CE would be good.
What if they put focus on the Endless? Deemphasize the mysteriousness of the forerunners in CE in favor of lorebuilding?
What if they decide the Pistol is too powerful, or the shotgun has too much range? The CE plasma rifle is my favorite weapon in Halo, what if they change it to be more consistent with the plasma rifles in other games?
The atmosphere and gameplay of CE are the highlights of the series to me, and I just can't see 343i respecting them.
They already failed to respect the atmosphere of CE with CEA...

Halo ended with Reach and ODST, its OVER. And i'm kind of glad. Weirdo identity politics weirdos wanting to subvert halo don't DESERVE this amazing story. I want this IP to stay dead and gone until social politic issues simmer down so we can get some actually good spins on the story again instead of self righteous weirdos with a message to push get their grubby hands on the IP.

Here is my hot take. They wanted the UNSC to be the good guy. They were never the good guy in the old lore it’s just the only option left. Halo also worked because humanity was on the back foot loosing so morality went out the window. They then said the UNSC changed which like is bizarre that the same government that abducted children now says that was bad the same government who used war orphans as super soldiers. NOVA bomb assassinations of civilians who were anti UEG. Like guys you can’t make them Star Trek it’s halo know your setting

Honestly I am so lost trying to figure out where halo’s story is going. Back in the day everything seemed to make sense but the new storylines in the post human-covenant war and the created in halo 5 and halo infinite just seem so confusing and I’m having a hard time following and understanding what is going on. There’s things that I really enjoyed about both bungie and 343 halos, but I just can’t wrap my head around the new stories which is a huge bummer…

  • @Pabla98

I have very very little hope that Halo as a whole can be brought back to life. Every one of 343s Halo games have lacked any cohesiveness and almost feel like a different Studios made each game. Time after time again we hear about how toxic and careless the atmosphere is around Halo. It's simply only still around to be a cash cow for MS. For example Bungie would never have green lit the Halo show but it was green lit simply because it could make money. It was severely normalized to appeal to a broader audience but in turn it just turned out to be your run of the mill action show. Infinite was kind of boring and leaves a really bad taste in my mouth how they made empty promises and never came out and told the truth.
To add 343 has now "had" Halo for longer than Bungie now and look at the state its in, there no hope.

After infinite, the last shred of hope I had for Halo was killed with extreme prejudice.
343 is a terrible development studio, they had they got handed the keys to success with a franchise as popular as Halo was.
And somehow they just couldn’t get the door unlocked, or didn’t want the keys in the first place.
Easier for me to believe Halo had a peaceful rest after Reach.

I tried for as long as I could to stave off this mindset growing within me, one that's far from rare amongst the community. But it's become increasingly apparent to me over Infinite's lifecyle that the Halo I knew and loved growing up did in fact die when Bungie left Microsoft. Try as they may - they're just never going to be able to replicate that same lightning in a bottle that the Bungie of old created.
Halo died with Bungie and the last of my faith in 343 and Microsoft officially died with Infinite.

We have the master chief collection that took them 10 years to fix. We don’t need 343 working on anymore remakes the games look and run as good as they need to. Just give us a co-op campaign game and release that in seasons would be nice but they need to be large seasons and then have a different dev make a new halo multiplayer game.

  • @Marinesrock07

Every new game these days lacks the passion that developers use to have. That lack of passion leads to a dead end every time. All these big devs care about anymore is revenue, so that naturally leads to a dead story without any true ending...they want it to persist to make more money, but they don't truly care about the longevity of player base. Halo has just died...they gave up on almost everything they planned on doing.

yeah i think 343 are just terrible at story telling now adays i dont know what is wrong with them, but not even involving the flood in the story at all in favor of releasing a brand new species in the Endless, is possibly the dumbest, most criminal thing they have ever done when they have so much easy free lore on a silver platter that they refuse to dig into. They always think they can create something new and make it better than the old but they dont understand thats not good story telling if you just rush through what we love to get to what they wanna do.

“Bringing the franchise to new audiences” doesn’t mean to corporate figures what it means to you and other optimists. Every time we’ve heard that, the IP to which that idea has been applied has suffered. Present day Star Wars and Star Trek do not have anywhere near the status or respect they once had and this sentiment is the core reason.

The shame in this is that they had some departments on the right track. But using contractors on making the engine is ultimately why everything was so rushed and scrapped after a few months of support. They need to primarily focus on getting the team right and consistent before pursuing any new engine or lore plan without having to worry about an executive check box of the current market. Easiest way of describing it is confused. And needs a foundation that has actual focus on all levels of development.

The thing is I’d say the majority of people being “negative” aren’t doing it out of malice they’re simply saying what it is. Like let’s not beat around the bush the franchise is in a mess and has been a mess since halo 4. I want 343 to do good desperately but until then we can’t just pat them on the head and tell them “hey at least you tried” that why we are where we are.

We need. To let halo go. . . and die. For a bit, and then you make a game in 5532 as an odst/marine in a city, with the vibes of an unstopable enemy (the covenant), you helping rescue the civilians, the city, go from fallback to fallback point, until you get rescue by spartans, the first time they appear, and save the unsc land forces. and still the situacion gets bad, and you die, or escape just by luck. . .and the end of the game gives you a sour flavor in your mount the flavor of defeat, like the old covenant war was
