  • @bloodgulchpatrick
    @bloodgulchpatrick 13 дней назад +38

    I don't... quite like the spore-lore.
Considering how everyone fighting Flood in Voi would be infected from inhaling them... heck, even Chief himself would carry some leftovers from Alpha Halo back to Reach and Earth on his armor (and in his body, as he took off his helmet). Now, how about all the Elites, including Half-Jaw and future Arby, who fought Flood before in unsealed helmets?
Better yet, let's return to Voi... surely those spores would have time to spread through waterways and air despite glassing of the area. Arguably it would make it worse through convection, lifting spores high in the atmosphere all over Earth.

Hell, what about all the marines who fought in every Flood outbreak during the war? Even Sgt. Very weird taking future lore into account. Johnsan due to his altered nervous system made it difficult for him to be infected and this would apply to all spartan 2s, meaning that part doesn't really fit with established canon.

As it’s impossible to fight against and nothing can defend against it. Like even the Orks in 40k despite everything about them they’d still get infected because their reflection abilities and immunity doesn’t matter to the Flood super given how it works as a infinitely small super cells so can’t be affected and also perfect replication.
Doesn’t help the ultimatum that’s the effects of being basically corrupted precursors(screw the new book)(time effects and time makes mold) so they have complete control and dominance over real space, reality and the universe. (In their influence)
So like the Trynids and the Swarm would be the ultimate meal for the Flood.

I know this isn't the right place for this necessarily, but I want someone to tell me if this sounds like a good idea.
A survival horror game set in the Halo universe. It would be set on High Charity while The Flood are infecting it. There would be 4 main characters who you switch control of per chapter, choices you make effect what happens. These choices effect character relationships, they might get injured, they even might die thereby no longer being available in later chapters. Imagine a Dead Space x Until Dawn style game set in the Halo Universe.
MAIN CHARACTERS [Can be injured at many points throughout the game, If a character dies before a level you'd play as them in then you play as Vance in that level instead]
1] CPL, Vance Johnston [UNSC Marine, A battle hardened veteran of The Human-Covenant War] -> He can only die in the 14th level.
2] PVT, Brandon Scott [UNSC Marine, A newer still unadjusted soldier of the UNSC] -> Chances to die in levels 4, 6, 8, 11, 13, and 14
3] Yek [Kig-Yar member of The Covenant, A jackal sniper used as overwatch by The Covenant war machine] -> Chances to die in levels 6, 9, 10, 13, and 14
4] Bipyap [Unggoy member of The Covenant, A grunt minor meant to be used as cannon fodder by The Covenant war machine] -> Chances to die in levels 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, and 14
LEVEL LIST (Note these level names would not be their final names just placeholders) [The descriptions of each level assume nobody dies before the level but obviously playthroughs will be different based on player choices]
1] Prison Break [This is an interactive cutscene recapping the events of the level Gravemind in Halo 2 where The Master Chief frees the marines, Vance and Brandon are the only 2 that survive and get seperated from The Chief]
2] Seperated [Playing as Brandon, you and Vance must navigate some tight Covenant corridors at the start of the Flood outbreak]
3] The Gardens [Playing as Vance, you and Brandon retrace your steps through the gardens. Bipyap is met in this level]
4] Council Chambers [Playing as Bipyap, the three of you retrace further toward the council chambers where you take the central elevator down to the lower city. Yek is met in this level]
5] Lower City Outskirts [Playing as Yek, the four of you begin heading towards the tower with In Amber Clad's wreckage hoping for a pelican dropship]
6] Sanitation Sector [Playing as Brandon, the four of you must make your way closer to the tower through the sanitation sector]
7] Unggoy Dwellings [Playing as Bipyap, the four of you make your way through the city's Unggoy district]
8] Wrecked Tower [Playing as Vance, the four of you must make your way up the towar In Amber Clad crashed into. The Flood outbreak has run rampant at this point]
9] In Amber Clad Wreckage [Playing As Yek, the four of you navigate In Amber Clad's wreckage looking for an intact pelican. The wreckage is the most infested area thus far]
10] Pelican Down [Playing as Brandon, the pelican crashed just outside the inner city so the four of you head closer to the inner city]
11] Inner City Streets [Playing as Vance, the four of you navigate the thoroughly consumed streets of the inner city]
12] Ministry of War [Playing as Bipyap, the four of you enter the ministry of war building serching for an entrance to the maintanance area]
13] Engineering [Playing as Yek, the four of you must make your way through the near completely infested engineering area connecting the ministry of war with the starship bay]
14] Starship Bay [Playing as Vance, the four of you traverse the fully infested starship bay to commandeer a Covenant Corvette starship to escape High Charity]
15] Epilogue [This is a cutscene where it recaps what happens after the game based on your choices with different possible endings for each character, the "Good" ending would involve all 4 surviving and being rescued by the Sangheili blockade around flood infected High Charity]

I thought what it took was the supercell getting into the bloodstream, not that it's so insanely overpowered it's impossible for the story to play out how it does, and the assumption with that is that the supercell isn't just ANY flood cell, but something special and specific.

How does Flood infection methods stack up against Necromorph infection methods.
Waterborne: yes, the urchin was stationed in the Ishimura's water supply in an attempt to infect anyone who drank it, there are also necromorph fish in the books, grabbers that hid in the water of the Ishimura's sewer system, nest have been seen to sit in "aquatic" environments and throw out nest swarms, and finally Tau Volantis was an aquatic planet that only froze due to the machine so all previous necromorphs dug up were aquatic or semi-aquatic.
Spores: yes although they don't use spores, instead using bacteria which already grows across everything but using gas from the corruption and wheezers, they are able to make this bacteria airborne along with corrupting the very air you breathe. While the corruption does this passively, it doesn't do so very quickly, enter wheezers. Wheezers are stationary forms where the lungs have burst from the host back and expanded to be slightly larger than a person to larger than buildings each with 1 being described as the size of a house, the more they inhale, the more they exhale replacing good air with air that will rapidly weaken you in a mater of moments to the point you can't move as you struggle while also infecting you.
Landborne: Yes, and in a way more affective way than the flood to. The corruption and bacteria infinitely spread even without new biomass as the marker will just send energy to them to keep growing and dividing. This process isn't slow either, able to grow hundreds of cubic feet of material in an hour, this material serves to slow down anything not infected by grabbing it, if skin contact is made, it will instantly assimilate the person by connecting to their nervous system, it can emit gas, and form necromorphs out of its surface in an instant as seen in 1 of the books where a wall turns into a brute in less than a second, and then producing dozens of slashers moments later. This can also be used to form larger forms like hiveminds, Leviathans, Slugs, Spiders, grave robbers, the urchin, tormentors, and more plus dedicated facilities to produce Tripods, and likely more.
Biting, slashing, stabbing, and more: yeah, they do this, all of them. The best example is from extraction when Nathan McNeil fought the spider, a walking factor necromorph, after seemingly defeating it, it stabbed him through the arm and pinned him down to the deck. Unable to escape with oxygen running low, McNeil used a plasma pickaxe to remove his arm just above where it was stabbed. However approximately an hour or more later, McNeil turned into a slasher(with all 4 arms mind you) and attacked 2 other survivors although they were able to fight him off.
Infection forms: while the flood has at least 1 type of these, it uses its whole body to infect an individual quickly turning them into a combat form. This process as mentioned can fail with age and can't infect spartan 1s, 2s, and possibly also 3s even enhancing Johnson instead of infecting him, these are not issues for the necromorphs who are completely immortal.
With the necromorphs, there is 1 form called swarmers which act very similarly to the flood's except they are much smaller and still strong enough to over power something like a spartan, these prefer to enter the mouth and burrow into the spine, instantly turning the host into fodders which are necromorphs that can still use weapons like machine guns, rocket launchers, axes, and more but also alter the body internally instead of externally so that if enough damage is taken, they can split in half revealing that the spine and intestines have been turned into spiky bone whips that weigh 300 pounds. These protrude from both the legs and lower body simply depending on which side was more damaged.
Secondly, infectors, these are entire humans who have transformed into a murderous kite capable of gliding at high speeds, fitting through small spaces, overpowering Augmented humans, stabbing straight through people, and reanimated corpses into what ever is currently needed, not just slashers, they can make other infectors, leapers, slashers, pukers, stalkers, and even brutes if enough biomass is assembled to do so for it. It does this by injecting necromorph tissue directly into a body which rapidly grows through it and transforms it into whatever while the infector just goes and gets another corpse.
Machines: not quite infection but they can affect them with marker pulses which causes tech to go haywire with 1 A.I. becoming super hostile towards Isaac Clarke, an automated drill has also been used to try and kill him. So while they don't convince them or infect them, they can break them in highly specific ways to help them even just to make doors repeatedly open and slam shut hard enough to obliterate you however they can also assimilate technology directly into forms with Twitchers reversing the effects of stasis units in their bodies to make them go super fast or slow themselves and their victims down at close range so that other necromorphs may kill them.
Something that the flood don't have however is the carrier wave, this is a signal from the markers which sends energy to all necromorphs, information throughout the hive mind, corpses for reanimation, and to weak minded or low resistance victims causing them to turn before dying. Note that the marker seemingly have infinite range, they just have to find the corpse or see a corpse through someone's eyes to reanimate it(since that are actively reading your mind, they know where you are and by proxy where the corpse is). Note that this isn't shown in game but in the films where we see that a marker fragment that can fit in your hand is capable of focusing its power into a single corpse and turn it into a 40 foot tall giant in seconds.
Eating their flesh: consuming necromorphs will turn you into a necromorph called a feeder which is now infinitely hungry. They remain fully in control and unaltered at first, but as the body processes the meat, it puts the person in desperation mode where you are willing to eat none infected people, it amplifies your senses to the point you can smell people through walls, and it increases their strength and durability as it transforms their tissue into necromorph tissue. They do eventually lose their minds but this took months, and they were luring people away to eat them up until they were locked in an underground facility.

There is another instance of someone being infected by being bit by a combat form. In the first Halo Wars when the Flood is first introduced there is a side objective to save groups of marines. With one of these groups a marine says that he was bit and a soon as he finishes speaking he turns into a combat form.

343 haven't ever think of making a new spinoff for Halo. I would love if they add new spartan team that happens to be in some colony. Someone have accidentally broke a regular looking vile but have flood spore inside it and it spreads the floods from one person to another faster. It would be interesting because you can lot's of stories and games on it, it have huge potential because I think everyone is looking for floods come back not just on Lesser Arc on Halo Wars 2. I'm still waiting for them to look on flood rather than playing safe, adding Spartan flood didn't really look that interesting if you can't fight it as flood behavior rather than players plays like it is just normal Spartan. Yeah it is cool you can jump higher than normal Spartan and is Aesthetically look cool, but I don't think I would enjoy it on the long I wants to fight Abomination on Halo wars 2 on FPS I wants to shoot it with missiles and Mach Cannons. They caught them off guard and the precursors let it happen.
To them the whole point of the mantle was to give the universe “sweetness”. Or allowing it to expirence life, death, pain & joy. So when they were attacked by the forerunners the majority just took it as part of the natural cycle. They were also able to change their physical forms and “die” and be revived whenever they wanted.
So this was just another I stance to them, and turned to dust which was then corrupted to form the flood.
It is also implied that some precursors did escape the galaxy in one of the books.

One thing I find incredible about the flood.
Is that their name basically describes the initial stages of the floods development.
Later stages get a bit more complicated depending on what was consumed when and what environmental stresses caused the flood to react.
The interesting thing I find about the flood.
Is anywhere there is a massive amount of biological matter the flood "will" cascade.
Humanity has probably had multiple run-ins with the flood for it to truly kick off with a metaphorical tip of a spear that was the covenant ship crash landing in halo 3.
While humans may have not been initially infected when the flood returned to the universe for one specific reason.
Our biology is the embodiment of this creature.
We are colonies of bacteria fungus and parasites all working together to make a single human.
So yeah we have naturally high defence against the flood.
But before I trail off any further.
    The flood.
    Like a flash flood.
    Happens extremely quickly.
Impossible for it to sustain itself for very long.
    The floods only option.
    Blitzkrieg.
Resulting in a very intimidating take over of the setting while between the cracks of the scene. The words survival of the fittest rings true.
    While looking even further.
Bastions would more than likely hold more than just the fittest while dwindling the numbers of the flood significantly to the point that the flood would have to address it like an environmental danger such as a live wire full of DC current coming into contact with the body.
Meaning avoid it unless there is no other option than spend everything on a last ditch attempt to sustain it's insatiable erge to consume and assimilate that follows it through every stage of development from the flood.
Save a few lucky stages in which the flood returns to the existence of a primordial.

A unique little tid but about biological life that has evolved around artificial life. The reason mendicant bias was quite literally communicated through what the grave mind knew from the assimilated forerunners exactly what strings of logic to play on to get mendicant bias to switch to the floods side even if it was temporary.
The flood knows it can't do anything to mendicant or offensive bias including catalogue.
What happened to catalogue was entirely different than what happened to mendicant bias and the didactic. As well as Cortana.
Cortana was altered not brought to the grave minds side. Merely sent on a personal spirit journey through the archives of the forerunners and what was left of ancient humanity. While more than likely taking a peek at what the grave mind was thinking from time to time.
Just to find a tar pit of information all screaming out at once entirely illegible.
While what happened to catalogue wasn't the grave mind.
Yes the flood but not the grave mind.
      In the instance with catalogue.
Is what happens when a infected Spartan three hijacks the grave minds control over the flood in its vicinity. Often leading to said individual spit out randomly through a star road breaking apart and launching said infected Spartan three elsewhere.
Not quite enough to destroy a planet or small moon.
But enough to stalemate the hijacked flood super cells that the infected Spartan has taken control of.
Remember when I mentioned "a unique little tid but about biological life that has evolved around artificial life"
The very difference of the primordial and any complex life is the primordial in essence only ever evolved around biological life.
And anything artificial is only a short term solution that has gotten it into a sticky situation when the halo arrays fired.
Well like engineers humans are connected to the Internet.
Well as of halo and recent developments in society.
Meaning a Spartan three having knowledge of how every command oni officer they have ever met has an implant that allows them to connect directly to everyone and and anything in their electronic infrastructure. Leading.
To a purpose built mutation implemented by the flood suggested by the Spartan and ultimately seized by the Spartan as with said biological imitation of a cerebral implant.
Locked the grave mind out when it comes to biological signals sent to the flood biomass in the vicinity of said Spartan.
Resulting in a biological signal jammer that is more than capable of connecting to said electronic infrastructure than providing place for an artificial intelligence to reside albeit momentarily do to the excess amounts of power output the ai would be letting off put into such a distressed state for a moment.
      Basically.
The thought of causing an artificial intelligence to reel back in terror and panic sheerly from what transpired.
Is keeping a Spartan 3 going when it comes to fire and buck shot for the flood.

Another translation for catalogue and how her carapace was resealed.
How catalogue was sent back to forerunner controlled space.
As well as the carrying of a shard of itself in my memory could be the results of.
The Spartan and catalogue melding together for a moment and the struggle catalogue is having with finding Wich part of catalogue is catalogue and which part is Spartan.
Though the grave mind in question could very easily be the interference in use of a biological mutation manufactured by the flood upon the Spartans carapace at this point.
As well as the evil and darkness would be akin to the blood lust and battle frenzy a Spartan feels in the midst of battle.
While the love felt at the end was the Spartan paying a small bit of attention to the sudden connection of a third party and sent said artificial intelligence back the direction it came from.
While the thoughts emotions and applied energy for action is all laid bare for those few seconds of connection.
