This game had identified itself in the worlds greatest, not only because of gameplay, visuals that at the time were ground breaking, and not even for the memories that so many have gathered, but, for the story? Absolutely, hours upon hours of storytelling each story successfully passing the last with sheer emotion, I miss this game, and hope to whatever gods that live, that Halo: Infinite will be the saving grace that Halo so dearly needs, also hope the forge is godlike.
I read this book back in middle school before ever even playing the games, and it's what made me interested in playing them in the first place. That was around fifteen years ago now, but that whole subplot has stuck with me ever since.

I've said this a lot and I'm gonna say it again...Keyes died a hero. A true hero. I mean he basically sacrificed his life essence, his memories, you name it. To me he has to be the best captain I've seen in a game franchise 😔
I remember reading the book on Halo CE, The Flood. It actually describes how Keyes had his mind and memories ripped apart as he resisted giving up the location of Earth. It was pretty messed up. Especially in the end when the Gravemind decides its had enough and decides to just fully absorb him into itself and his reaction to feeling his consciousness be assimilated into the Flood. It's such a undeserving end to a good man.
@@1980syuppie the captain got his internet history removed by the gravemind (joke aside the flood basically gave alzheimers to Keyes and dug through his memories like a wildfire and made sure they get the info they need to get to earth but chief made it just in time and ended his misery by punching his skull) quite a hudson way to die,but badass and that death would not be in vain as chief destroys the flood in halo 3 then we get to 343’s halo (now I’m saying too much)
When I was playing this mission I didn't expected for such a failure! However, after watching this video I felt that I was actually successful according to the story which I didn't realize until the completion of The Maw.
Keyes was a damn legend... the dude practically saved the galaxy. If he had just given in the flood would of almost certainly infected earth. Keyes died a hero, he's more powerful then any spartan, mentally that is.
You know, if you’re wanting another Flood VS. video, I would love to see a video of the Flood vs the Daleks from Dr. Who. That would be an epic battle! Love the video! Keep up the great work and I hope you feel better! All hail the Flood!
akram haouam Yes they are. Under all that armor is a squishy blob of flesh that I think the Flood could definitely convert if they could get in. I think it would be difficult though, especially if they’re in their Feral Stage.
Keyes is mostly only able to see the Truth and Reconciliation, and therefore for about a quarter of the terminal believed he was being interrogated by the Covenant until he started looking more and saw the flood infection forms running around and was reminded of those things and yelled out *"YOU DON'T WANT EARTH! YOU WANT EVERYTHING!"* and he realized he needed to attempt to hide the location of Earth, unfortunately giving away the location of the Pillar Of Autumn's crash site giving Master Chief a harder time fighting in The Maw.
You're making this hard on me man. I just pre-ordered reach on it's own since it's my favourite halo, but now you make me wanna play combat evolved and all the rest.
I've always been suspicious about Keyes "death" in the franchise. If neural physics is truly a concept in the game, the essence of Keyes was already absorbed by proto-gravemind by the time the Master Chief arrived on board ship, so maybe he wasn't really dead. It makes me revisit some of the interactions that we see from the new Gravemind as the franchise progressed. Think about it: how fixated the Gravemind was on Master Chief, the odd "rescue/recruitment" it had with him in Halo 2, the way it seemed to have an oddly personal connection with Cortana enough to torture her while trying to get the index, how in Halo 3 when they were all working to stop Truth and Miranda Keyes was killed, the Gravemind only attacked once her body was safely taken into the pelican by Johnson, how Johnson was literally allowed to leave the safely on the pelican with her...very suspicious. I wonder if, having absorbed Captain Keyes, the proto-gravemind was still able to transfer his consciousness into the Flood Gravemind memories and that overall influence was present in the actual Gravemind for the remainder of the series. Kind of interesting to think about eh?
Unfortunately, we’re talking about a single great mind being swallowed up by what can be considered billions of lifetimes. One mind isn’t enough to influence a creature that essentially has multitudes of other minds within it. The moments you mention are all just coincidences.
It is an amazing video and reminds us all of why it is important to continue to fight on, both mentally and physically. Even when you are about to lose, you keep fighting and go down swinging.
And now we have people like Palmer, if she was in Keyes position, shed give away earths location is seconds.. Keyes was a fucking badass, I'd probably shit myself.
Wasn't there also something about him repeatedly accessing data stored on his implant, since they couldn't erase that? I kept waiting for it to be mentioned, but it never was. Have I been misled by the other video talking about Keyes?
Keys escaped Reach. Saved snd delivered Cortana Discovered The first Halo and as a consequence he became victim to a terrific unknown creature which tortured him psychologically. This how Halo era started
His death reminds me of how i felt when i tripped on dmt That feeling of being taken apart and sinking down into the empty void And my brain did go through my memories sporadically and randomly I couldn't see or hear anything with any sort of clarity I Truly felt seperate from my self, mind and soul and essence were all seperate from one another I thought i had actually killed myself with drugs and i thought i could hear my family screaming my name as my brain was shutting down In reality i was sat on my bum in the same spot for 20 odd minutes just rocking back and forth and looking around like i was tweaking Its up there with one of the most terrifying experiences ive had
I personally have never played a Halo besides 15 minutes of Halo 3, but because of my man HiddenXperia Halo is in my top 5 favorite lore/story driven games. I'm HIGHly fascinated by the flood. You're awesome bro and thanks for some of the best lore on RUclips.
If you think about it, if the covenant never started the war with the humans, Master Chief would likely never have come to be and wouldn't have been there on ring 7 to stop the flood from escaping which they could have done with a covenant ship. Which in turn would likely have resulted in the absorption of the universe eventually including Earth itself.
Hey Xperia, I have a question that might work for a vide; So we know that the Flood is able to reanimate dead corpses of its victims, humans, elites, brutes, etc. and also use their knowledge to create a grave mind or use it for gain. During Halo 2 we see the Mausoleum of the Arbiters. Did the Covenant preserve the Arbiters' bodies after they died like taxidermy or did they cremate them? If the were preserved, is it possible that the flood was able to break into the coffins and take over their bodies? And would the deceased Arbiters retain their strength and knowledge for the Flood to use?
Man I love your videos And this is why I love halo the excessive design for detail it's not just a parasite that breaks the body to get what it wants it's been dorment for millennia, patient, waiting, using everything you love, passionate about to warp your mind into a personal hell for you Like with keys it was stealing memories from him making him forget who he was. For cortana it was her curiousity, thirst for knowledge that every time she went for more information it would sweep her up in psychological torture The infected soldier who tried to commit suicide but the flood stopped him using his morals and hope against him
Happy Halo-ween! Enjoy some fine spooky lore on ya boi to celebrate!

My God this episode was Iconic.
Your narration was at its best today.
" He[Master Chief] started forward, but quickly came up short as a voice that verged on a groan came in over his implants.
_"Chief... Don't be a fool... Leave me."_
It was Keyes' voice.
Keyes, Jacob. Captain. Service number 01928-19912-JK. He clung to the tether of his CNI carrier wave, and "heard familiar voices. An iron-hard, rasping male voice. A tart, warm female voice.
He knew them.
Was this another memory?
He was struggling to dredge up new pieces of his past to delay the numbing advance of the alien presence in his mind. It was harder to maintain a grasp on who he was, as the various pieces of his life-the things that made him who he was were stripped away, one at a time
Keyes, Jacob. Captain. Service number 01928-19912-JK.
The voices. They were talking about him. The Master Chief, the AI Cortana.
He felt a sense of mounting panic. They shouldn't _be_ here.
The other grew stronger, and pressed forward, eager to learn more about these creatures that were so important to the struggling prisoner who clung so stubbornly to identity.
Keyes, Jacob. Captain. Service number 01928-19912-JK
_Chief, Cortana, you shouldn't have come. Don't be a fool. Leave me. Get out of here. Run._
The presence descended, and he could feel its anticipation of victory. It wouldn't be long now."
-Halo: The Flood, Dietz[pg 322-323]
DarkBooger I still remember reading this for the first time. It was a gut-wrenching moment.
@@ShawFujikawa Yeah it was, it still is.
@@GentIemanThief I read the book before playing Combat Evolved, I had played every other game since I didn't have a copy of the game on the original console nor did I have anniversary edition on the xbox 360. Then I got my own pc to use and found the PC port for the game. Now I have the MCC on xbox one.
"One single mold spore can destroy a slice of bread. Were it not for the counsel of the Arbiter, I would have thrown out the whole loaf!"
I've said this a lot and I'm gonna say it again...Keyes died a hero. A true hero. I mean he basically sacrificed his life essence, his memories, you name it. To me he has to be the best captain I've seen in a game franchise 😔
Kinda sad that keyes didn’t have a picture up on the memorial at the end of halo 3

Flood: *probes memories for the location of earth*
Keyes: Delet this
I remember reading the book on Halo CE, The Flood.
Could you describe this to me in more detail?
@@1980syuppie the captain got his internet history removed by the gravemind (joke aside the flood basically gave alzheimers to Keyes and dug through his memories like a wildfire and made sure they get the info they need to get to earth but chief made it just in time and ended his misery by punching his skull) quite a hudson way to die,but badass and that death would not be in vain as chief destroys the flood in halo 3 then we get to 343’s halo (now I’m saying too much)
The repetition of name and service number is a common military tactic used to resist enemy interrogation.
I wish the game had told me all of this information. It makes the mission more eerie and immersive. I never knew any of this information.
From this I learned, that if a spartan hits you full force he will literally make your head explode.
Aw yea just in time for the drive home 🔥🔥
Ayyy safe drive my man

You know, if you’re wanting another Flood VS. video, I would love to see a video of the Flood vs the Daleks from Dr. Who. That would be an epic battle!
Love the video! Keep up the great work and I hope you feel better! All hail the Flood!
The daleks aren't organic
akram haouam Yes they are. Under all that armor is a squishy blob of flesh that I think the Flood could definitely convert if they could get in. I think it would be difficult though, especially if they’re in their Feral Stage.
@@akramhaouam3548 they are, inside the casing is a mutated squid-like creature called a Kaled.
"Floodception"
Sounds like a good psychological horror movie based on this😂I know I'm cheesy
He was actually gonna make a full recovery until chief punched his face in.
xperia's body is weak and useless but his mind is fully of ony secrets, hes becoming part of the protogravemind
He was already there long before this video
You're making this hard on me man. I just pre-ordered reach on it's own since it's my favourite halo, but now you make me wanna play combat evolved and all the rest.
Poor Keyes dude. Such a sad and disturbing ending he had...
Reading this in the book was one of the hardest things.
Is this like when Fat buu was in Super and Kid Buu?
Unfortunately, we’re talking about a single great mind being swallowed up by what can be considered billions of lifetimes. One mind isn’t enough to influence a creature that essentially has multitudes of other minds within it. The moments you mention are all just coincidences.

I keep coming back to this video and I'm not sure why. Really love hearing about Keyes' badass mental fight.
It is an amazing video and reminds us all of why it is important to continue to fight on, both mentally and physically. Even when you are about to lose, you keep fighting and go down swinging.
Imagine if chibs dubbo was infected
That's literally impossible if that happens the multiverse goes *poof*
@@4realm8rusirius the multiverse wouldn't go poof. But flood will be in control in every existence

He needs to know what the ladies like
And now we have people like Palmer, if she was in Keyes position, shed give away earths location is seconds..
Keyes was a fucking badass, I'd probably shit myself.
When your captured in the military all your allowed to give is name, rank, and service number
Wasn't there also something about him repeatedly accessing data stored on his implant, since they couldn't erase that?
I kept waiting for it to be mentioned, but it never was. Have I been misled by the other video talking about Keyes?
Man, you made me cried remembering how brave Captain Keyes was.
Damn crazy to know Keyes went through all that. I lose all this context while blowing up baddies in game. Awesome video as always!
He’s like the Obi Wan of Halo
He was in 1 game but still an epic well known character in Halo lore
Yunno after watching this and the other flood video makes me really mad that in the tv show they just killed him off.
Really miss keyes thought he was an amazing character
Definitely if only they didn't killed him off so soon
Its military protocol to, when being interrogated, give only your name, rank, and service number on repeat and no other info.
You're sick? Whelp, time to glass this channel.
*Gets Corvette ready and calls for ship master*
Sorry sir but the ship master is in the gravemind and flood is everywhere

Keys escaped Reach. Saved snd delivered Cortana
Discovered The first Halo and as a consequence he became victim to a terrific unknown creature which tortured him psychologically.
This how Halo era started
"For you will ever live up to your legacy"
Miranda: yeah I wish it was that way
His death reminds me of how i felt when i tripped on dmt
That feeling of being taken apart and sinking down into the empty void
And my brain did go through my memories sporadically and randomly
I couldn't see or hear anything with any sort of clarity
I Truly felt seperate from my self, mind and soul and essence were all seperate from one another
I thought i had actually killed myself with drugs and i thought i could hear my family screaming my name as my brain was shutting down
In reality i was sat on my bum in the same spot for 20 odd minutes just rocking back and forth and looking around like i was tweaking
Its up there with one of the most terrifying experiences ive had
I'm a simple man
I see a video about the Flood in my notifications, I hit like.
I personally have never played a Halo besides 15 minutes of Halo 3, but because of my man HiddenXperia Halo is in my top 5 favorite lore/story driven games. I'm HIGHly fascinated by the flood. You're awesome bro and thanks for some of the best lore on RUclips.
Chadtain Keyes, a true legend.
Love that subtle "not this channel btw"
Tuned in right away love your videos
Hey Xperia, I have a question that might work for a vide;
So we know that the Flood is able to reanimate dead corpses of its victims, humans, elites, brutes, etc. and also use their knowledge to create a grave mind or use it for gain.
These Flood videos never get old. Thank you for another Grade A video. Subscribing to HiddenXperia best choice I’ve ever made.
The thumbnail looks like Keyes is being forced to watch honey boo boo
Thanks for touching on one of my favourite peices of Flood lore
I like the Flood as much as Halo (particularly CE) in general, but it still scares me
“They hit a *dead* end”
Wow...
Man I love your videos
And this is why I love halo the excessive design for detail it's not just a parasite that breaks the body to get what it wants it's been dorment for millennia, patient, waiting, using everything you love, passionate about to warp your mind into a personal hell for you
Like with keys it was stealing memories from him making him forget who he was.
For cortana it was her curiousity, thirst for knowledge that every time she went for more information it would sweep her up in psychological torture
The infected soldier who tried to commit suicide but the flood stopped him using his morals and hope against him
“the parasite is not to be trifled with I hope you know what your doing”
This was so well written I almost shed a tear hearing Keyes slowly dying. Well done gamer, well done.
Imagine curing the flood
That would be a great idea, but knowing some greedy people, they will fix it to where you live with it forever.
This really answered a huge question for me while playing the Halo CE! I always wondered how it all played out. Thanks for making this one, man!
