Hey guys, sorry for the short delay on this one, had a bunch of IRL stuff to take care of this past week and this video was a longer one too, but, anyways, it's finally here! The video about the cut Flood forms is coming over the next few days too, so stay tuned and enjoy! :D

Before I watch this mini-series, are these information in the Forerunner trilogy by Greg Bear? I want to read it (I read Eons and I got my mind BLOWN, then I hear he's written the Forerunner trilogy for Halo... mind goes *h y p e r n o v a* ) and I don't want to be spoiled by stuff.
Thanks for responding, I'd like to watch the video but I don't want spoilers.

Never trust a talking space noodle with teeth.
That was just a modified tentacle used to speak with Chief and Arbiter. It turned back into a normal tentacle afterwards.
*never trust a biomass of tentacles that can change form at any time to speak with beings they believe are lesser to them*
@@britbrittingson3129 Yeah. It mainly uses its Precursor abilities to speak telepathically. But I guess it preferred to speak to this human and sangheili directly. That's how it spoke to Chief in Halo 3, telepathy
@@britbrittingson3129 actually they are precursors so...
They might be right about thinking others as lessers.
Oh NOW you tell me!
It's recently been confirmed that the Gravemind doesn't have an actual head. What we see in Halo 2 was a tentacle altered and reformed into a mouth to address his captives directly. After he sent them away, he returned it to normal. Being a Precursor, the Gravemind still retains the ability to alter his appearance and, of course, speak telepathically.
Well that makes sense of why it has a snake like appearance it was actually a tentacle but I’m guessing it’s body is just a pile of flesh if I had to assume

Am I the only one, even though I know the risks, that would love to sit and have a casual conversation with the Gravemind?
TheLaughingGun Nope I would love to converse with it to. Wouldn't mind being an agent for it either in echange for said knowledge. The next logical step in the mantle is a comunion of linked flesh and mind across the galaxy.
Now I wouldn't go that far. :P
I'd get lost in his speech pattern yessss, someone else who would do this!

@@helligevaar mainstream crap
@@neger7717 Their early albums are classic dude. And why say mainstream? I can guarantee I know many great obscure bands and artists you have no idea exist.
The way the Gravemind speaks is literally my favorite thing about him.
"Child of my enemy, why have you come? A father's sins... passed down to his son."
I noticed something... In the Cortana and Gravemind moments in Halo 3, there are a few biblical references. Fascinating.
Edit: I'm more obsessed with the voice two years later. It's so powerful and yet soothing... Dee Bradley Baker is incredible
And all of them blasphemous.
Well the story of the humans and forerunners shares some similarities with the story of Cain and Abel.
The Precursors(God) favored Abel (humans) over Cain(Forerunners), and thus Cain turned against God, and his brother.
Any epic story of good vs evil will have elements of that. And you can definitely tell that the Gravemind and the flood entity is a downright ugly personification of wickedness. Tbh I have a hard time with Halo because of this.
It's loosely implied that Christianity in the halo universe was derived from what little knowledge of the forerunners and the flood humanity retained after the human-forerunner war.
Can't wait for 343 to fucking ruin that dialogue like they rendered Arbiter's dialogue awkward and cringey. "SPARTAN LOCKE WHY HAVE YOU COME, TO DO THIS THING WHICH YOU ARE SET TO DO RAAAAAAAAAAAWR."
0:00-0:14 I have to admit the Gravemind is one of Dee Bradley Baker's best performances He truly makes it a palpable threat with its eerie poetic speech and disregard for others that is not the Flood that thing is scary.
Well you have enlightened me my friend. I did not know this until today.
Yes, the Logic Plague for Cortana is the only way to salvage the story.
The best way would be if it isn't entirely Cortana, but merely a leftover fragment of her that allows the other logic-plague-infested AI (possibly composed Didact or Warden Eternal?) to wear her face and ape her personality. That would be the best direction because it would change the story from a Skynet-style conversion to a more infection-like abomination that is more tormenting to Chief. It would give him a motive to fight and destroy the monster, for really personal reasons. Especially if he was forced to watch her undergo a virtual flood-style infection, and be assimilated with other AI into a virtual proto-gravemind (mirroring Captain Keyes' fate). This would be so shocking and sickening, and would make the villain of Halo 6 as evil and despicable as possible.
Michael McCabe We need to get this idea to 343
Michael McCabe 343 confirmed the Cortana we saw in 5 was a collection of the corrupted fragments that was left of her in Tales from slipspace.
Or maybe Didact salvaged her and rebuild her with some "modifications" to act as his pawn.
This is an absolutely brilliant idea. Especially with all the AIs joining that "Created" alliance of hers, I can see that whole "Gravemind-AI" being a thing.
I think amalgamation is more disgusting. To see her become a puppet isn't nearly as awful to watch as seeing her consumed and assimilated into an AI-gravemind. For the finale, the villain needs to be as evil as possible, so that Chief enters the final battle battle with the mindset of 'I will never see my friend again, but that no longer matters. All that matters now is that you will be dead!'
Cortana's death in Halo 4 was well-done, and it shouldn't be spoiled by resurrecting her in any way. Her character in Halo 6 should be a cannibalized fragment infested with the flood. That way, we keep the sadness from Halo 4, and feel no hesitation to kill her (again?) in Halo 6.

So the gaining of intelligence from the host bodies into a Prototype Gravemind is why Chief smashed Keye's head in Halo CE when we was encased in a Prototype Gravemind.... to keep Earth a secret from the Flood?
Max France Okay thanks
Max France Chief also did that to respect Keys, he wouldn't want him to suffer any longer.
It's because keyes had a specific code chip within his head they needed to self destruct the Pillar of Autumn. If you read the book "the flood" i believe it talks about how chief had to root around his brain to find the chip.
Adeptus Tacticus how much do those novels go for?$
Lol it would have gotten the location of Earth from all the other humans it consumed. That was just because he needed to get the specific code chip within his head to self destruct the Pillar of autumn like Adeptus Tacticus said anyways 2 years too late maybe lol. He would have just thrown a grenade or shot Keyes I sure know I tried a grenade after I got the code.
its cool how you can hear thousands of voices behind the graveminds regular voice, it just adds to the depth and really makes you feel like this thing is made up of hundreds of your dead friends...
I am the monument to all your sins.
When I heard that quote, I immediately thought that before that scene, the Gravemind had collected and absorbed every single Grunt, Jackal and Elite Chief had killed since arriving on installation 05. Then it showed Regret in it's tentacle, which I feel is proof of that theory.

The Flood always creeped me out as a kid, I remember playing Halo on my uncle's Xbox and seeing The Flood and it was scary as hell to me. Now as a 19 year old The Flood still creeps me out a little. Would love to see a Halo game where Spartans get infected.
PLEASE keep making these! The Flood are a big part of what made Halo what it is(was), and though their removal from the story was necessary to bring the original trilogy to a close, neglecting to reintroduce them for so many games straight was a BIG mistake gameplay-wise IMO. Halo games without the flood in there somewhere just don't feel like Halo at all. Let's not even get started on armor enhancements.
The_Argus_ Plexus Keep in mind 343 needed to find a way to bring back the flood so the characters wouldn't look retarded. Their coming back in halo wars 2 in the fall
Elijah Watson Well yeah you dont want them to just retcon the ending of Halo 3. But clearly there is more flood in the galaxy still, and im soooo stoked for it :D
gamers in general are self entailed thrash.. when companies alter their own original story to appease the fans... it ruins the point of an original story true its own originality... personally i want to hear someones own story rather then impose my own variation to theirs.. cause it makes it makes it my story then and not theirs.. xb
in this regard books > then movies and game stories.. books are finished before release... the readers have no say so in anything and have to enjoy what is given to them.. games are different they are prone to shift according to the personal desires of gamers.. i fucking hate that..xb
example: fans cried about the double perspective of halo 2 where u played both the chief and the arbitor... people were too cheif centrist the dev's didnt continue this in halo 3.. thus we got no more first hand experience of what it was like to be a "covenant"
id assume people cried about the flood too so that could be a reason why the flood played less of a role then what they possible could have... butt we'll never know...
I feel like you can have a line of halo games without the flood just replace them with different enemies like actual fun to fight Promethians.

I never knew how fancy grave minds where 6:42
You just kinda throw the Flood possibly being able to control spacetime itself in the Keymind stage like it's nothing. That thought is fucking terrifying, dude! Why'd you end it there?!
So a thought on this. When play through awakening the nighmare, the gravemind you face is incredibly massive, but kind of gives the impression of being somewhat simplistic in it's strategy, there's a lot of enemy coming at you, but it doesn't show any real strategy. Would this be because most of the biomass it gathered after the breach of high charity was just the arcs ambient non-sentient wildlife? I'd suppose a gravemind composed less intelligent life would be less intelligent, right?
Random theory, maybe a fully evolved key mind/flood being, becomes a precursor. And it just makes a cycle of the creation of other sentient life to create food for its continuation as a species. And the tech used in the halo rings was also used to kill the precursors as well as the flood which are just non evolved precursors. Once the flood get control cover space time etc. They can use their influence over space time to create sentient life/ drag it in from a separate time to repopulate the galaxy they consumed. Creating a paradox loop of constantly dying and feeding flood.
Dude this....man I have set here at work all day watching your videos. I'm learning so much thanks to you. I thought I knew a lot about the halo universe but now you keep blowing it wide open with every video.
So how did the Gravemind on Installation 05 created? Where did he get that so much biomass from if it was contained the whole time?
From the In Amber Clad Marines, I think
Master Chief Petty Officer John-117 But it takes a lot of years to be created..
Master Chief Petty Officer John-117 he never. He's a few thousand years old and was formed far before the in-amber clad arrived on installation 05
I'm pretty sure most Halo rings have life on them already. Halo CE was originally meant to have wild life on it, like how Halo: Reach had the Moa's and those big... whatever the hell those big guys with the tusks are. The flood infection forms that escaped containment must have infected the local life and formed a proto-gravemind. It probably would've taken longer to build a full gravemind, as they didn't have any intelligent life to infect, as far as we know. The majority of their intelligence would have had to come through normal learning, until it could access the memories of it's oldest flood forms that were in captivity, so it could know the previous gravemind's knowledge.
It collected local wildlife and the Forerunners when it broke containment.
i think that cortana being infected would be such good story arcing and it would make her sacrifice in halo 4 all the more tragic as it was likely her last sane, individual decision, she did wait 4 years and seven months after being tortured from the gravemind, and then she was revived from the domain now she is an infected immortal ai with control over the galaxy, it's pretty good writing(or fan theory lol) but i think she plans to release the flood as she believes the ai's will be unaffected by a flood outbreak, ultimately winning her war on sentient life forms. if that's true then halo 6 could be the best story in the series.
here's my dose of iconic lore! I love this channel! :D
One thing you left out: A Gravemind can manipulate space, much like the precursors. Recall when The Halo 2 Gravemind is able to pull Chief and Arbiter into the same room, then release them into different locations. The Forerunner Saga says that at a certain point, the Flood was more powerful than the Precursors were, which makes sense since they went from hunting the Precursors down to extinction to being the extinct(endangered imo).
How to win against Gravemind... Tell him that if he eats all living things he'll eventually die of hunger, so you tell him you'll feed them corpse (what they used in Halo CE to create flood) The story end with Flood, Human and Covenant all friends!
You probably could reason with a Gravemind, versus a Tyranid's mindset of 'must feed'.
The flood is basically a more intelligent Dead Space. At least the flood has a "peaceful" goal.
Adam Hamilton Dead Space copied the flood, took Keyminds and called them “Brethren Moons” ffs
Accept the Necromorphs are much much scarier than the flood.
@@abe9458 I'd say the flood is scarier and I don't think the necromorphs have their equivalent of the timeless one.
@@bonerbreath6747 Necromorphs are better designed, that's really the draw of Dead Space - but the similarities between the two really grind my gears. They're basically the same exact thing but the presentation is what makes them unique. The Flood is not so well designed, but better conceptualized - the Necromorphs are shoddily conceptualized but very well designed.
Necromorphs are only scarier because DS is a horror game. If halo would make one, I'm sure the flood would easily reach the same level.

Theoretically, the gravemind can move themselves. Breaking up into mobile pure forms guarded by combat forms only to reconverge where needed
My tier of Gravemind evolution seen in the actual cannon universe.
•Halo CE: Protogravemind seen on the ship “Truth and reconciliation “-very early state, but capable of controlling the Flood Juggernaut seen in Fireteam Raven.
•Halo The Monalisa: Protogravemind seen on the Slipspace engines of the ship- This early state has accumulated enough to create pure form Flood Juggernaut.
•Halo Wars 1: Protogravemind seen on the outer shield World, capable of jamming comms and creating full flood pure forms and colonies. Mid state of the evolution.
•Halo Wars 2: The banished encounters a Protogravemind in the late state of this evolution before turning into a full Gravemind, believed to be the remains of the last Gravemind of High Charity.
•Halo 2: The Gravemind, seen by Chief, Cortana and Arbiter, this is the culmination of the previous evolutions of the proto, the full Gravemind is capable of coordinate vehicles, pure forms and massive deployment of flood forces, capable of negotiations and convince other species to join forces.
•Halo 3: Early version of a Keymind, because of the Biomass the flood consumed from High Charity, the Gravemind began his transformation to the third state, interstellar tier and proto-keymind.
Halo Legends: Keymind, most dangerous state of the flood outbreak.
Halo ???: It’s believed that multiple Keymind can create a super version, but never encountered save for the Forerunners in the last stand of the war.
I love the eerie music that you put in the background while talking about the keymind
“In order for a gravemind to form the flood needs to absorb enough biomass and intelligence.”

New things, like the
Information about the flood. So that's
Cool
Good lord, imagine if the next few games were about a new war against the flood.
Keyminds, various species and factions working together (with Cortana too), and combat against the flood in its late interstellar stage, nearing its intergalactic stage.
I can imagine the end of the final game having The Master Chief fighting through an infestation on the ark, being telepathically abused by the flood using logical combat against him. He then fires the rings, including one near the Ark placed to get rid of the infestation. He dies, and the galaxy is repopulated by the species that have evacuated to a safe distance.
The epilogue shows the repopulation of the galaxy, the unity between species, and a narration by Cortana, who concludes that the mantle of responsibility does not belong to a single group or species, but that it belongs to all living things. It then cuts to a memorial to John-117, the savior of the galaxy. Banners are flown around with his image. His armour is put on display.
If the final game was completed on legendary, a scene plays where a family is looking around a museum dedicated to the Chief. They then look at a display that features a hologram of him without armour. His face is completely visible.
Holy shit, the feels. THE FEELS.
This sounds like the plot to mass effect 3....

What do you think would happen if to give minds like the flood and say the Borg came into contact with one another. Do you think one would over right the other or do you think they would become something all new
The flood would definitely win it could likely infect a single individual and be able to gain control of the hive mind wether that be through mental torture or the logic plague and cause the borg to go insane and taking control of a single borg ship would allow it to infect entire planets without worry and flood spores would also infect them at a massive rate by just breathing in flood supercells will infect
Honestly the Kinect bullets that load out weapons fire in warzone would be really effective at killing the flood and making sure they stay dead
I was actually thinking that the Covenant weapons were the best choice for dealing with the flood. The plasma would kill the flood and burn the bodies in one go.

I wonder...We see how effective the flood are in Halo but I wonder how well they would in say Warhammer 40k or other sci-fi/science-fantasy series. :o
Pyroskies that would be interesting especially with Nurgle and his followers. The Imperium can destroy an entire planet within an hour, however if the flood infected them...then the flood could as well.
Well, they can already out-eat the Nids (Nids take 50-100 days to consume an entire planet, the Flood do that shit for a weekend project), so there's that.
I'm honestly not sure how well they'd do against the Orks or Necrons though.
A big question would be, if they can pierce through Space Marine armor? On one hand, it's probable as the Infection forms probably had to deal with forerunner armor (That may have been tougher then Spartan armor) and can only be stopped by shields. However, Space marine armor is shown to be much superior when compared to Spartan armor as they can tank hits from Bolter rounds (being rocket propelled grenades) for a short while, essenically being damn hard for Infection forms to pierce through. Tho I supposed that combat forms could break appart the armor, and considering the large population density of each planet, it'd be easy for the flood to over-run Astartes with just 1 planet completely infected.
Pyroskies unless the whole of 40k unites then the flood wipes it unless the chaos gods intervene. they, if they were already at a galatic stage, could farewell as a low tier faction in doctor who
Goodbye warhammer galaxy if the gods don't do something as when the flood make a keymind it's game over.
I love the flood, they were actually created by the precursors as a test to other beings, such as the forrunners to see if they could handle the mantle of responsibility. I love halo lore !
sean halpin uhhh no the precursors actually are the flood, when the forerunners Tried to wipe then out many turned themselfs into star dust, eons later the star dust got corrupted and mutated so when when the precursors tried to reform they became the flood instead
That was a good transition into the audible ad

I have some ideas of what might happen after a key mind, a entire star system is under control and use of all life in an entire system even more intelligent then a key mind, then entire control of a galaxy and use of all life in the galaxy as all life is the flood and each star acts like a neuron, then entire control of the universe as everything is the flood no life is left in the universe that isn't the flood each galaxy is a neuron, then complete control of the multiverse no life is left everything is the flood and the flood is extremely intelligent, then complete control of time it's self everything is the flood and everything will be the flood and the flood will know all and everything
Then master queef bitch slaps it and it falls apart
