Emile's skull, 'Death's Head', as he calls it, is easily one of the most iconic aspects of Reach, so, today I figured we'd take a look at the origin of this terrifying piece of custom MJOLNIR. Today, we're looking at the history of Emile's skull and Noble Team's TOP SECRET Counter-Insurrection Operations on Reach, prior to Reach itself!

Happy new decade friendos! If all goes to plan 2020 could be one of Halo's most iconic years yet, so to brace you for it, I thought we'd take a look at the history of Emile's iconic hand-engraved skull, and the operations he and Noble underwent that earned him 'Death's Head', as he calls it, enjoy!

Another reason for recreating the visor, imagine a group of elites or brutes somehow put one of these Spartans down, and not longer after another one with the exact same armor comes after them like a Revenant thirsting for their souls. It would reinforce the idea of Spartans being these immortal killing machines even more, and would lay credence to the term "Demon". The Grim Reaper exists, and he's clad in Mjolnir armor.
That last sentence is scary lol
"The Grim Reaper exists, and he's clad in mjornir armor."
And his name is Emile.
Fucking bad ass comment
I personally find it really sad that George never got his farm, it would have been nice if he got to live his last days of a long life on a nice, peaceful calm farm. I hope he got his wish in the afterlife

Imagine if you could do that to your EVA helmet. Every kill you get puts a scratch on it, like a Stattrak weapon from CSGO, until it’s finally complete.
yooo I actually fkn LOVE that idea
That would make you seem even more scary and badass
343 please, this is the coolest idea
You have to get 2390 multiplayer kills or 239000 firefight/campaign kills with the helmet equipped to finish it
I was about ready to mention that I had thought Emiles helmet scratchings were from his kills as well I could be wrong
Seeing Emile with his helmet unscratched just looks not normal at all
He looks basic without it
Loved the EVA helm when it came out. Then Emile made that helmet even BETTER.
I had a glitch in Reach on the 360 where starting the first mission, Emile's helmet wasnt carved. I thought he carved it after the first mission back then.
i said that too myself too
@@hex6970 same. I completely forgot that happened to me as well.
As someone who's recently lost their parents to someone's misdeeds, I can absolutely relate to that bloodlust and the void in their heart. It's something you have to learn to live with lest you either end up stress eating yourself into a grave or ruin your life in a brash fit of rage.
I'm honestly kinda jealous of Emile's ability to work out his emotions with righteous bloodshed, however unhealthy it may be, it's like being able to work out depression with a crack addiction without the repercussions or self harm coming from it
I love Emile because the fanbase actually found his face (he's African American, for those who don't know) and you can tell he's secretly broken, as you can see by the lines "im lonely already" (when radio goes silent on winter contingency) and on that same level, when Sara Sorvad, the dead scientists daughter near the end of the level is reccomended for a psych eval, he says "she's not the only one". Some subtle character building by bungie, hats off!
That line Emile says about the eval is a dig at Jorge.
@@HaiImKush "Both of you, stow it."
Honestly. And as fucked up as this may sound. My favorite part about Emile was his death.
Jorge Went out thinking he had saved Reach.
Kat died trying desperately to get to saftey.
Carter went out making a path for Six and Emile.
And Emile? He died a ravenous wolf, knowing he wouldn't survive reach but fighting to his last moments anyway.
Just like Six.
Out of all the Spartans on Noble team. Emile and Six had the biggest fight in them, no fear of death and the greatest wills. Moreso than the other 4 combined.
I have great respect for Emile as a character, and while Jorge is my Favorite out of Noble team, Emile is who I idolize the most.
@@skel_raven each of noble teams death is a metaphor for their character and personality. Jorge, the big strong guy, is taken down by a big and strong bomb that he sacrificed himself with. Kat, the brains of the team, ironically gets shot through the head with a needler. Carter, the commander and captain of the team, ‘goes down with the ship’. Emile, a lover of knives and arguably almost psycho, gets stabbed with an energy sword fighting an elite in hand to hand combat. Noble 6 goes down fighting as a lone wolf, what he really is. And Jun, the sniper who likes to keep his distance and avoid direct contact survives by evacuating Halsey and getting her away from the planet
How is he African American when he wasn't even born on earth? Mate seriously, think about it.
George's death is amazingly sad but Emile's death imo is even sadder. When he gets stabbed you can kinda hear his tough persona break just the slightest and you can tell he's had nothing to loose for a long long time. "I'm ready, how 'bout you?!" Sends chills and makes me honestly tear up abit every time I hear it..
At first I thought what you said was crazy but the more I thought about it, you have a point.
In my opinion I think his tough persona reaches peak at that moment , it doesn’t break
*Jorge
It doesn't break at all tho
He sounds almost relieved. There's definitely an intimidating factor he's pushing for in saying "I'm ready! How about you!!?" But at the same time, I don't think he's lying. Emile has probably been ready, almost eager to die since Jorge's death. They butt heads in person during the campaign, but if you linger around Emile during later missions, he'll ask if Jorge and Kat ('s deaths) are "getting to you." Not accusatorially, but with understanding. Like he gets it. He'll even refer to Jorge as his "brother" in another idle line.
Emile knew the UNSC was losing Reach, he knew Noble team wasn't going to survive the second he learned that Jorge's sacrifice meant nothing. At that point, he just wanted to die meaningfully. Taking out two zealot-class Sangheli warriors seems pretty meaningful to me.
I have never relished how scary Emile's helmet is until the picture of Emile staring through the window
Indeed
What is the music in the background during that point its amazing
The best part is that it's like a demon she made coming back for her
I love relish
I know it’s just an engraving on a helmet but honestly, Emile is probably the coolest looking Spartan we’ve seen yet, in my opinion at least
That is not just an Engraving on his helmet That is his Face his True face
And that face...Was the face of Death itself...

The 10th anniversary of Halo: Reach should be celebrated with an anthology book/comic of short stories similar to Fractures to follow the members of Noble Team (including Thom-A293 and Rosenda-A344). Damn, this didn´t age well
Once more, the fandom sure expanded more storytelling depth to an already profound and deep video game and the video game series franchise surrounding it.
Mayhaps you should make a video about Reach's Superintendent from the webcomic. Again, not officially canon, but it sure is an interesting character in the storyline enough to warrant an exploratory video like this.
Edit: I also love the fact that the UNSC officially borrowed the Death's Head EVA designed soon after Emile's notable actions wearing it (which explains why it's an unlockable helmet back in the pre-MCC days of Reach).
He really said "Happy New Year, Fingers crossed 2020 ends up being as good as we all hope it will be. I mean come on, it has no reason not to be so fingers crossed" without knocking on wood
Honestly he dies in such a chad way. No wining, no crying. A cold acceptance of his fate and desire to take one last soul screaming back to hell with him.
Anyone else think Jim was underused in reach like we barely see him
Dreamerofthe Universe I do, I’ve played through Reach a ton of times and I don’t even remember Jim!
EDIT: a ton of tons => a ton of times
@@buttholelicker1874 Right? Jim was basically the backbone of Honor Team in Reach and he barely made an appearance
Is Jim an actual character or did I get trolled
