What irks me is that Minecraft Dungeons was basically shut down just before Minecraft LIVE, while this one didn't have that yet, I was so excited for Dungeons, and I felt it retained far more of a player base, it just needed something fresh and more major in my eyes. Feels like it was passed over for this, only for this to be dumped too
Dungeons was great but they literally stopped working on the game for Legends and now they can’t go back
@@GrumpyEngineProductions Exactly.
Michaelcraft can never make spin-offs that live for more than a year, take Earth and Legends
@@garfieldfan925 Eh, any game can last long or have sequels so long as you keep giving it updates.
Idk how you could be excited for any minecraft spin-off
The game died the day it came out 💀 I realized it came out a entire week after release
I found out it came out right now 💀
I found out just now LOL
I never even knew that there was a lego set for it...
i do
nice to see u here 😮
@@EmptyCoso Hmmm
@@DrownedWick well its been some months since that set got released :P
I didn't know either, and I'm actually pretty invested in Lego lol
Me neither and I possibly have the biggest Lego Minecraft collection out of anyone in my county
I feel like Minecraft as a whole has failed to utilize their game as a brand to cross promote their other products. They have so many neat expansions on Bedrock utilizing other properties, but I have yet to see anything from Legends, Dungeons, or even Earth be incorporated into the main game.
Imagine expanding the mobs, biomes, and blocks to reflect these new releases? Imagine coming across a Redstone Guardian and their stronghold in a similar manner to discovering an Ancient City in current Minecraft. I love the concept of there being a evil piglin mob that is exclusive to nether biomes to reflect their tribe. Introduce more structures to fight these new boss mobs. ALL of the mob variants from Earth. So many missed opportunities.
The game is too niche to be popular when you have more freedom in the main game
They actually tried doing this with the mob vote in 2020. All the options were from legends and earth. And then they never added anything else from the spinoffs. And also the winner probably would have felt more prevalent in the game if it wasn't just a different colored squid
100% agree. Dungeons has some _very_ cool blocks that would be awesome for building but Mojang has their head up their @$$ with *excuses like “No Furniture”* while they conveniently ignore beds.
Heck, let us click on a pillow to update our spawn location and click the sheets to sleep the night away. Also give us a sleeping bag so we can sleep when we are out exploring away from our base with updating our spawn location.
Devs don’t even play the game. :-/
It the same company that own halo the most recognized game that the past 10 years they did literally none thing with it....
There was many ideas they give to Microsoft 30 of them all shut down.....
They’re only a multi-million dollar company. They’d never be able to add all those features. Sarcasm obviously.
They spent so much on the visuals and merch that they forgot to focus on the part that actually matters... The gameplay. There's very little to do after beating the game, and the multiplayer is extremely lacking. They screwed over this game from the start, which is a shame because it has so much potential. :(
I personally found multi-player fun...if you do it in the same room.
@@plaidhatter1674 Unfortunately I have no friends, let alone friends that play Minecraft Legends... 😅
Honestly, that reflects the current state of Mojang as a whole. The office grew detatched from the community. They focus too much on status, PR and other stuff, forgetting that people fell in love with the game, not the company. It doesn't stop them from making the main game slightly better sometimes, but april fools updates show us what they are actually capable of when not held back by the marketing or management.
@@tlotro625I have to admit that the April Fool's Day updates show that they can be quite creative. Obviously it was noticeable that several additions lacked more development and were experimental but there are still interesting ideas
The game still has hope through mods! The first "Community Lost Legend" with playable goose and vanilla minecraft player enemies is coming next week to celebrate 1 year since launch.
Highly doubt that will bring big number back let's be real here
@@Ccubed92 People doubted pigmen would get added to Minecraft, but yet here we are.
honestly any hope this game is coming back is just copium, nobody plays it, nobody advertises it, and mojang doesn't even care
@@Micleewhat does that have to do with player count trends? Or are you suggesting adding pigmen boosted Minecraft’s player count. I’m not sure I believe that.
Where did you get this because this is interesting
Rest in peace Minecraft Dungeons, we hope (even if extremely unlikely) you return one day.
I just remember beating this game on the second day after release and the game had next to no replay ability let alone being super short
Minecraft spin offs are difficult. Story Mode was probably the best spin off as the story carried it. The updates were additions to the story so audances could be excited for it, even if they didn't play it. Story also creates a connection with the environment. In vanilla you make the world into your own, you get familiar with your local area which you may have plans for.
Dungeons and Legends seem to both focus on combat. Dungeons had one benefit of being first in that regard. They also go into the relm of Strategy, possibly adventure. They both have story, but thats not the focus. I am guessing that dungeons was better.
Talking of their focus on combat style games. Minecraft has a broud playerbase. Some have been playing for 10+ years and can barely say they've defeated the Ender Dragon. Point is, a lot of the playerbase are more creative focused. The builders and the Redstoners. Some players want a more challenging survival game, possibly the Grind.
Possibly make a Life Sim and go in the opposite direction to most games in that genre.
Oh yeah, I fogot about Minecraft earth...
still remember going into online 5 days after release and not finding a single game
I feel like if Legends was a pure rts game instead of having the player avatar aspect, maybe it would play and sell a lot better.
This makes me so sad…
Thousands of man hours from dozens of supremely talented artists just wasted.
My little brother loves Minecraft. He got a Legends lego set for his birthday, and he loved it. And he was excitedly talking about how there is a Minecraft spinoff out there, and about all the cool monsters it has
I couldn’t bring myself to tell him that the game is dead, and will not be remembered by anyone in about 6 months from now
Yeah, a real tearjerker
10:45 in theory, random generation of maps allows for more replayability since you can have unlimited amount of maps, which means each match is a different experience. And in theory you would have to adapt to each map differently. RTS Games like War Selection do random generated maps and make each match slightly different.
too bad they added meat decay
They need to create a Minecraft Dungeons 2 with more features. Minecraft dungeons still stands till this day and has an amazing community till this day. Minecraft dungeons is arguably THE best minecraft spinoff.
Both dungeons and story mode were the best spinoffs
@@maximouse88 Story mode? definitely not the best or anywhere near dungeons. I wouldn't call if worse than legends though. Take a quick look or play through Storymode, and you'll see a bunch of issues with it that you probably never noticed.
@@haimay5767 i guess there is a lot of inconsistencies, but i find it a good game. I also love dungeons because the story, the artstyle, is amazing. And the mobs, weapons, world ect.
Idk I think they should just focus on minecraft. Most people don't give two shits about the brand, they just like minecraft.
@@DotKom01They have separate teams working on the different games
I really do wish the game was given the chance to better flesh itself out it’s a shame we’ll never see the true potential of minecraft. I hope one day they make an attempt to revive the game as I believe it truly could have been something great. Also the same goes for minecraft dungeons but mainly because I just want to see more of that game!
Also pikmin was a great game to compare to minecraft legends! It’s one of my favorite games and minecraft legends could learn a lot by taking a look at its combat scenarios.
maybe if they'd wasted less money on stupid merch...
I didn’t even know it came out yet
Love your editing and filming style. Another great video just like the Minecraft on New 3DS one.
Minecraft legends was a really fun time for me. For about two weeks I had a lot of fun playing the campaign in coop with some friends. But after that I never touched it again sadly.
Thanks a lot! Happy to hear the video lived up to that quality :p And yeah, the game can be really fun with friends
This game died so soon, we can call it a miscarriage
2:07 see the human female with the red hair? To me she’s always looked like Petra from Minecraft Story mode. My head canon is that she is Petra’s Ancestor.
Or she is Petra since in the beginning a character gets teleported from the actual Minecraft to legends
I'm surprised they haven't tried to create the obvious best spinoff game... A game in the art style of the mob/biome vote trailers! Perhaps an adventure puzzle platformer idk, I just wanna play in that adorable little world!
I played it once, forgot about it a couple of days later
This goes to show that repetitive multiplayer can‘t keep a game alive on it‘s own. It would‘ve been so easy for Mojang and BBI to add a ton of content to both single- and multiplayer here. Now the modding community has to do it.
Damn this video made me genuinely laugh in a tough time. Lots of love, youre doing amazing!
What else did you expect. All Minecraft IPs die and they pull them. Mojang really doesn’t care when the Minecraft spin offs go belly up. Dungeons has enough fan base to keep going. They stop that to. They don’t care.
Imagine if the development resources used in this game instead went into Minecraft updates.... Imagine where we would be
Minecraft employees only work 20 minutes a day
I’d feel bad for the modding community since then there would be 37 mini updates between big updates.
@Number1_radio_flyer_fan Microsoft is unironically the real problem they see minecraft as lightning in a bottle and strictly curate what gets into the game.
They have separate teams working on the different games
Def your best video yet, I love the skits!
This would've worked so much better if the base wasn't always on the center of the map, the bastions had some semi-randomized layout for the portal positioning and no need for mining resources yourself but use the aid of Villagers to gather resources so there's a reason why you're saving them beyond being a good guy.
It was dead the moment they attached the name Minecraft to it, the idea of the gameplay is very interesting but they had to shoehorn minecraft into it, which meant making it simpler, and less satisfying, if they had expanded on the concept and didn't dedicate so much time to the minecraft part, and more on the gameplay part, it would have had a chance to develop at least a dedicated community even if not too big, but they sold 3 million copies, they made their money, so they don't give a shit, they will just keep doing it, because it's easier than making an actual game
Honestly the game isnt even mechanically Minecrafty. They really didnt know what captured people into original Minecraft and it shows.
Why can’t they just update the original game instead of making these pointless spinoffs.
Oh! I get it!
💵💵💵💵💵💵💵💵💸💸💸💸💵💵💸💵💵
I really don't know why they keep trying to make Minecraft into a franchise. They probably already make enough money from Bedrock marketplace so why don't they just focus their development team on the main game instead these weird spin-offs no one plays. Maybe then they'd be able to add more than one lackluster mob every update. And while they're at it, just bring back console and pocket editions, Bedrock having to work on mobile while having the same updates as Java is constantly holding the game back and console editions were just awesome.
@FierceDIO 4J did such a good job with the console editions, if they got more funding they probably would've done a lot more enhancing with the editions. But microsoft really wanted to take minecraft for itself with bedrock
Its not pointless.
@@StarWarsExpert_ Give me a good reason why it’s not.
@@Theth3 First of all, Minecraft is primarily a sandbox game and everyone has different ideas and things they want to do in the game. There have been countless custom maps, datapacks and mods made to realize these ideas. For example RTS games and dungeon crawlers have been made in Minecraft. A lot of time was spent coding and crafting these ideas with different tools in Minecraft. Custom maps and even entire servers dedicated to dungeon crawlers, for example Hypixels Dungeon Gamemode inside of their Skyblock gamemode, exists and has a huge player base.
Why not realize some of these ideas in entire games, instead of built in Minecraft, to reach their full potential while establashing many links to the original Minecraft, like Minecraft Dungeons does for example?
I saw this game at a game shop for the switch... for $70 💀
Personally i really liked minecraft legends. The procedural map encouraged me to come back to the story mode a couple times to try it on harder difficulties, but after that i just ran out of things to do.
I think they expected the multiplayer to carry peoples attention while they worked on the lost legends but i didnt have any friends who had the game and communication is really important with strategy games like that, solo-queues and unranked matchmaking force every match to be a coinflip as to whether your team screws you or not, theres also the fact that if you DID have friends you couldnt choose what team you got placed on at launch (they might have fixed that? I dont remember).
That and the fact that once you beat the campaign that's it for PvE, if you want more your only chance is to abandon your several hours of progress and start fresh.
I loved the core gameplay loop, the problem i found with it was that it just didnt have enough. They could have adapted the story mode into something similar to the bloons freeplay mode where once you beat it you can continue playing knowing that it infinitely gets harder until you inevitably lose, where the fun comes in seeing how long you can last, i feel like that way i would come back more to see if i can beat my best score, learning from faults in my strategy and coming back to improve, rather than having something thats good enough to finish and calling it a day, only coming back because i feel like getting the same experience again.
That and an improved matchmaking system could have gotten people to stick around long enough for them to justify fixing some of the games other faults
randomly hearing you compare the visuals to trove of all games was such a flashbang lol
i played that for years (i think almost a decade at this point), but finally quit recently after getting the last couple of steam achievements.
THE PRICING IS RESICULPUS LIKE CMON ITS 2024 stop making games with paid access and micro transactions greedy
What miffs me about this game gettimg abandoned not even a year after is i loved this game i wanted to see more stuff added through it and it came out the day before my birthday, so i was super excited about playimg it, but now there isn't even gonna be a anniversary celebration for it and it makes me kinda sad
I worked at house of how for the on the development of the dlc myths it was kind of a nightmare to work on that project, we were given very little direction and limited support from the main developers. we had to figure out how to mod the game with zero tools without understanding how the base game worked at all lol.
playint gt with your feet earned you a sub
Both Spin off games had one problem, They never gave their community a good accessible way to let people share their ideas.
Not even BFN failed this fast
How do you frick up THIS hard
I think your capture card has a screen tearing issue. I noticed a horizontal seam along many clips of gameplay
Enjoyed this! Commenting for engagement

In the next 2 days the game is gonna be 1 year old
Yeah no one is playing this today

As much as I enjoyed the game, its not even well designed tbh.

Been playing Pikmin since I was a kid, huge fan of the series. I saw this game as a huge opportunity for me to spend some time while waiting for the release of Pikmin 4.
Only after playing it for 3 days, I gave up on it; never looked back and instead had a great time playing Pikmin 4. Good thing I didn’t actually bought it, you could play it with Xbox game pass.
What some of us expected from the first videos was a mmorpg world that we could loot and play, what we got was the 'Waste time simulator'.
The fact that this was a fully priced game with microtransactions makes me feel zero sympathy towards it
Gone the way of PvZ battle for neighborvill
*At least there are still people playing Pvz :Battle for Neighborville on Xbox. (Turf takeover has full lobbies. )*
This channel is a hidden gem, subbed
Besides uninspired game play, even just trying to queue up with a friend was impossible. It's like they didn't want us to play with our friends. Instead, it would try to auto fill lobbies with nearly completed games. So multiplayer was unplayable. And generally a live service does best when the multiplayer carries the game. But it was clear that single player mode was the focus.
If only the game wasn't fucking boring after the first hour. Just running around in a field and easily destroying bases was just not it. I barely got a damn dollar of enjoyment
I really love Minecraft and RTS games and its a shame the strategy in this RTS game was so underused and not so well linked with Minecrafts sandbox aspects. I have a couple ideas as to how the game could have been more fun. It should have taken more inspiration from popular RTS games.
11:40 I think resources finding should have been more randomized and surprising similar to Siedler 4. In Siedler 4 you send out Geologists to find out which resources are where and how many of them are in each spot in the mountains. So instead of knowing where diamonds are on the map, finding diamonds would actually be a exciting and lucky feeling like in OG Minecraft. And if you needed more Gold for example, then you could have headed to a biom that generally has more of that resource like a Mesa / Badlands biome.
The geologist could be replaced with a special mob to find the ores.
To randomized generation of the villages: I completly agree with you, it should have been more simular to Minecraft Dungeons and MC generation. With actual roads, houses, walls and other things. Upgrading villages and actually needing to puzzle your own creative defenses for the villages, while utilizing terrain to do so, would have been nice.
16:00 Completly agree with you.
To the combat: What if you actually needed to utilize different units to win the game and not just spam 1 unit? What if you had walls and you would have to put skeleton archers on them simular to stronghold? Different hordes of piglins or zombified piglins coming to attack you from north with your skeleton archers there. You realize the second wave comes from the west and you don't have enough towers there. Thus, you move your skeleton archers from the north wall to the west wall and survive the wave that way. Putting down the skeleton archers on the ground makes them too vulnerable.
You could even go and make the villages more interesting. What if you had a breach in the wall, zombified piglins came in and infected a villager in the villager house, making a zombie villager. Quickly the initial zombie caused a exponential growth in zombies, thus you have to stop the infection from infecting the rest of the village. Else, you'll be overwhelmed by villager zombies simular to the game They are Billions.
Heck, the game They are Billions has still 4 thousand players mostly coming from the different difficulties in the campaign levels and the USER, not some company, USER generated content on the workshop. It has so many custom levels on there, even some Tower Defense maps. And that game is from 2017 and hasn't received a huge update in a while. Yet it is doing way better than legends ever was. They should have taken more inspiration from other RTS games.
In the end, I still have so many ideas for a minecraft RTS game and maybe I'll someday put some of them into reality using a custom map or mod.
Minecraft legends and the concept of a minecraft RTS game has so potential, but sadly it has not been used much.
If you have read this comment to the fullest, I hope you leave a reply and tell me what you think.
too bad no one responded :(
It seems Mojang has been trying to release spinoffs like Legends, Dungeons and Earth. But Earth was shut down a while ago, Dungeons is still up but smaller updates and then Legends dying down. An idea for a minecraft spinoff is use an exisiting minecraft world and make a full massive story mode since it seems they are putting a lot of time into spinoffs recently and less on the main game and yet the main game will always outlast the spinoffs.
Essentially what they did with Minecraft Story Mode since that was done using an existing world.
I want to add something no one else has
It literally broke Minecraft for me
I play on PlayStation and downloaded day one because yk i like dungeons so maybe I’ll like legends when I got in tho I accidentally logged into my alt and
For some reason on base Minecraft it logged me out and logged me into my alt and when I tried to log out it would glitch went through the trouble of getting my account to work for all the marketplace stuff I bought (don’t judge I don’t do that anymore old me did) was gone I eventually got in contact with Microsoft and they got some things back but some things I payed for were just locked behind a paywall again when I brought it up they gave 20$ of mine coins (will say Minecraft customer support was really nice they did a good job and were super kind and understanding just Minecraft itself or something out of their control deleted my stuff because I logged into an entirely different game on the wrong account accidentally)
Wow
Cool story
Minecraft dungeons had a great opportunity to continue existing, perhaps with more DLCs, with respect to each new update of vanilla Minecraft, and it would have given a lot to talk about (And sell), but they decided to do a facelift with legends, which I speculated was an attempt to sell a large amount of content again and it turned out very badly.
If they released even more DLC’s on top of the battle passes then there will be even more complaints about it being a cashgrab
As someone who absolutely LOVES strategy games, i would've loved something akin to a 4x or a grand strategy game instead of what we got.
All they had to do was make it like Mario Maker, but they didn't
How have I never noticed that Minecraft dungeons has randomly generated levels! I thought they were all the same!
They should bring back the Earth, it really does seem like a game that could live for a very long time
I didn't even know that Legends was a different game from dungeons...
A: Spend a lot of time on a game that becomes boring after 1 hour (months of work) B: Bring a mob back from an earlier mob vote and add it to the game (a few hours of work)
first 3 seconds and android, ios, mac are not gaming platforms
great video
10:14 this part reminds me of some of the issues with bioshock infinite but that was fun and not filled to the brim with micro transactions
Everyone forgot about minecraft earth and story mode
story mode was finished.
earth was a stillbirth
dungeons and storymode are like the 2 big guys in the thrones and legends is the small dude
personally I don't think it's legends fault it's mojang's for not knowing what makes Minecraft GOOD in the first place & expanding that concept into an RTS
Minecraft Legends is the most official shovelware I've ever seen.
Legends suffered from a similar fate as dungeons in the fact that its base campaign was extremely short, but it failed unlike dungeons because it never got the proper updates and DLC it needed
I had hoped that there would be a separate campaign for playing as the Piglins, if not at release then eventually.
Oh to dream of what could have been.
This game should have just been a Dynasty Warrior styles power fantasy simulator
Man, I didn't even know there was merchandise for it, all I knew it was going to release at some point and I find out it did like a month or two after it's release. lol
So no, it didn't even last a month, it was dead upon arrival.
Great video. I got xbox game pass to play this game for free back then, but then I noticed there's no local coop. So i couldn't play with my friend. I immediately shut off the game and had no further interest.
Yeah, you have to get a copy for each person, it’s ridiculous 🫠
7:30 the big difference between this and pikmin: you have deadline in pikmin or else you have to restart the whole game
Microsoft thought it could replace the name notch
Literally just remake MCSM and give it 3 seasons for fricks sake. I JUST WANT PETRA BAAACK!!
Fun fact it just came out as a free game for ps + (PS4/PS5 gamepass)
When will they realize they should just make an end update instead of spin-offs
I remember I saw this on game pass. Genuinely played an hour and have never touched it since.
It felt heartless and dead. But I guess my little brothers enjoyed it so there’s that.
If you’re looking for a good game like this. Try mount and blade bannerlord. Similar concept. Actually executed well
Please.... Update... Minecraft dungeons.... Please......
I was actually originally gonna get Mc legends for my birthday and was incredibly excited to play it. But then after playing the game on my friend's pc, I saw it was a huge letdown and went below my expectations. It sucks because I wanted to play it so bad only to see it being not as good as I thought😐😐.
A reason why it failed is because of the tutorial
At the point of of 3 bases spawning and you have to go too one by one
Instead of having 3 different enemy base you have to destroy that all show off one mechanic which makes the player board of the game
They could of just made it be 1 base with all the stuff so the player doesn’t get board
saying it failed because of that is the most Copium thing i've ever seen.
Tbh I didn’t even realize this game released, not that I had any interest in playing in the first place.
The moment I saw that this game would have Marketplace content, I lost interest.
Didn't know about that event
Minecraft Legends is what happens when you take a game about rejecting everything that's wrong with the games industry and make a spinoff which is everything that's wrong with the games industry.
>releases game that needed more dev time
>doesnt update it nearly enough post launch
>abandons game after it doesnt do well
its like they took the "do zero work" mentality from ordinary MC and expected it to work here. Difference is, Minecraft was a fleshed out game long before Microsoft got its hands on it.
Both Dungeons and Legends were in development for quite a while. And Dungeons had a pretty long lifespan when compared to Legends
Bro I forgot this game existed lmao 💀
This happens to every Minecraft project that isn’t the original original earth dungeons it’s super unsuccessful. It’s seriously unsuccessful for them. I don’t get why they try to do these side projects anymore. It loses them money. I feel like if they just release these games as their own standalone thing and didn’t connect it to Minecraft then it might actually have a chance of being successful because the Minecraft brand draws in a lot of kids and other stuff things that these are exactly intended for because they expect one thing when they hear the Minecraft brand. Idk though
Bring back and remaster Minecraft: Story Mode S1&S2! Minecraft Legends sucks! I liked Minecraft Dungeons but every other spin off from Mojang sucked. Telltale needs to at some point work something out with Mojang to remaster the Story Mode games for modern consoles and PC as well.
But story mode sucked too… the writing was abysmal
@@winxwest2964 you have the right to have that opinion. It wasn’t a perfect game, but it still was fun and nostalgic. People have the right to be able to play those 2 games.
Unfortunately they can't. From what I've heard it's in limbo after telltale went under. And Mojang didn't get the rights before then, so it's in this weird spot of no one owning it.
@@ParkerCS2 nostalgic is far from a reason to like a game.
To be honest, I have one Minecraft legend merch in my house is the piglin
Dead game or not, this video makes me really want to go snag a copy on the switch. Probably will honestly.
I despised Minecraft Legends from its inception. Mojang has divided its development team to focus on spin-offs when it should have used its resources to focus on improving the base game. There are so many issues that still exist with the base vanilla game and the updates are so disappointing anymore! Minecraft Legends is responsible for my loss of love for Minecraft completely.
Fun fact, they made the bedrock engine (From the console/windows 10/phone versions) into a proper..well engine, and then used it for both dungeons and legends.
Thats why its so flexible, and extra sad that we dont have deeper access to it
Dungeons uses _Unreal Engine._
Bedrock does not, it is a custom engine.
pikmin 2 ost mentioned
Idk if this is true or not but I read somewhere (the wiki I think) that the deluxe edition for the switch is about 6 gigs, while the steam version is *24 gigs* somehow. How in the hell is there such a big discrepancy? Also I specify the deluxe edition, because for whatever reason the standard edition for the switch is 7 gigs. None of this makes sense to me.
5000 concurrent was abysmal from the start.
I loved the game, but I think Minecraft:Dungeons and storymode is better.
Not a bad concept, but poor execution! Also, it was crazy expensive for such a small and repetitive game! No bad feelings though...
