I think the bggest issue with Mojang is that they think their only customer base are kids. Everything has to be as simplistic and familiy friendly as possible.

They won't get more complex themselves? Cool, I've got Apotheosis, Create and like _twelve_ addons for it, Simply Swords, BetterCombat, and Curios. Mojang can keep their patently-pointless mob votes and 'archaeology' that will no doubt make other, more interesting lore theories obsolete.

The game would have fared better as an actual RTS like Supreme Commander mixed with Total War. You start in a village with a village square, build woodcutters and miners who gather a slow trickle of resources, use those to build some basic troops like the plank golems and slowly build your forces while the piglins do the same and send waves of attacks. You're soft-locked from some area's due to high tier enemies, and you expand around slowly growing finding new resources and upgrades, upgrading buildings and technology, finding new golems and building a force of hundreds of units to march over the overworld to face off against the piglin swarm and set up a defensive zone around a portal to let your sappers mine the obsidian blocks instead of having basically any golem just hit it enough to destroy the portal structure giving the game an attack and defence vibe with it because the piglins can bring in another horde of soldiers to try and stop you so you better make sure you're reinforcing your front.
But that's my thoughts on it. I played through the whole game and haven't touched it since, kinda forgot about it honestly that's how forgettable it was.

    • @alphabros5226
      @alphabros5226 4 месяца назад +17

Wholeheartedly agree. The current game is too simplistic with its gameplay, and would've definitely benefitted from something a little more distanced from regular minecraft with the player. There was also a big learning curve between those who didn't understand + make use of the RTS-like mechanics and those who actually did.

Have they commented on the copper bulb changes? I don’t believe so, and the community is in uproar.
What was supposed to be a time of feature development where the voices of the players could be impactfully heard, they’re ignoring all suggestions and frustratingly not explaining why they’re ignoring said changes to the community.
Furthermore, during the entire most recent Minecraft Live, the entire chat was constantly filled with ABSOLUTELY NOTHING BUT #stopthemobvote which Mojang hasn’t commented on once.
The ENTIRE COMMUNITY collectively decided on what they think would be best for the game, and Mojang didn’t even say a word in reply.
This lack of communication is a very common trend among Mojang and the fact that they continue to pump out “interactive community content” on their channels whilst actively ignoring the community, makes me think they’re doing it on purpose.
This is quite disappointing from Mojang in my opinion.

That's me at 8:24 (Phineapoo1313) playing in that initial release-week tournament. This game had me HOOKED at the get go, for about a week. There was a ton of promise with this game if it was updated regularly. The concerns mentioned in the video were definitely prevalent from day one, and a few of us found some strategies that broke the meta in multiplayer pretty quickly.
Multiplayer was pretty much gonna have be the saving grace for this game. If they were to turn this game around at all, it had to come from reaching out to the community and adding/changing the things that the community was wanting or needing. That meta break I mentioned was brought up, but I didn't end up seeing much of a change to it at all, basically making it another mode with a very repetitive feel. I feel that they probably had about 3 chances to course correct, with at least one of those before release even happened. There was at least some small communication during that first week, but the radio silence afterwards was hard to take on.
I hope that a miracle happens and they can get some of that interest back, even if I don't end up coming back. I worry that this lack of communication or disconnect with the community will infect and kill the other games they make over time, including Minecraft itself.

It's super slow on Xbox where I first got it, and there's no way to mod the game, so I downloaded it on PC to see if I could find any mods and there's almost nothing on Curseforge. I still have to play on the lowest graphics settings to stay at over 60 FPS and the gameplay is super buggy and repetitive. I feel like they gave up on Dungeons after the last few DLCs so they could work on Legends, but that was even more of a disappointment. I think the problem is that mojang tries to play things as safe as possible. mentioning the lack of urgency within this game as well as the lack of interesting ideas and content exemplifies that. they've also been doing this with their updates, forcing a mob vote that adds in a creature with a niche use that nobody will remember, and especially in the new update, the dungeons I already forgot the name of. the last time they've added a new weapon was the crossbow, I believe. minecraft would be more interesting if something like a dodge was added, or daggers with a shorter attack cooldown but less range. something that adds to the game in a significant way. they can likely do well if they stop being big corpos and actually listen to player feedback instead of shareholder feedback, but until then, I suppose mods will have to tickle our fancies.

One thing I had a problem with the first Minecraft spin-off (Not Story Mode), Dungeons, was that it was heavily anti-Single-Player. I tried it alone myself, and the first real boss, literally killed me within seconds. The worst part was, much like Minecraft, Dungeons had all of its stats in its gear ONLY. Meaning it was hardly worthy of calling it an RPG, since the player character literally has nothing when they have nothing no matter how late game you are.
Coupled with the fact that the game barely teaches you anything, like how to dodge roll, and clear gaps that are required to jump across to get ender eyes/pearls for progressing a part of the game... it was little wonder that I never even bothered to buy Legends.

To be honest, we all very well knew Minecraft legends would die eventually, I mean it was just bound to happen. However I am very surprised as according to the steam chart, only around 43 people play it. Crazy to think that such a new game died so fast. This is very much why I believe mojang should not make spinoffs, rather just update the vanilla game, and do what is right for the community.

Spinoffs can work well if Mojang licensed the ip out. Story Mode for example, was mainly worked on by a 3rd party dev team

Legends gave me so much hope as an RTS player. I enjoyed the campaign for a day then hopped into multiplayer, excited to see what the pvp was like.
It had a lot of potential, but for a game that forces 4v4 pvp, there were NO ways to communicate with your teammates, making for an insufferable online experience. Combine this with the fact that at any point, one of your teammates could just teleport your entire army away from you (I heard they eventually patched this), it made me quit pretty much instantly after playing a 40 min long really close game just to have that happen to me. There was so much potential, which makes it so sad to see what its ended up like.

The sad part is: Whatever they add into a new failed game -> It won't make it to the actual game because they want "unique ideas" or they fear that the new stuff in the game is the cause of the low popularity (which is also wrong. Many people would love to see some of the things implemented into the vanilla minecraft game).

Dungeons was pretty successful, though. Infact really fun for what it is. It does get stale after you get to NG+ Apocalypse mode, but the DLC help draw attention. My only complaint is the Battle Pass grind, it takes wayy too long to level up once.

This is my #2 GOTY (after Terra Nil). But I readily admit that I'm the member of a _very small_ niche that has craved a "first-person RTS" since the Joan of Arc campaign in _AoE2._
This game was never going to be a financial success that justified the _half decade_ of development, so I'm mainly just grateful that the game exists and that the partnership with Mojang was enough to fund BBI as they produce the game that should be my GOTY for 2024: *_Homeworld 3_*

Considering the existence of top down 3D games like FATE and Path Of Exile. If this just showed some similar semblance to those games with the Minecraft IP combined with the graphical style it would be a success. In fact I think this is why that initial trailer worked really well but failed apart once everyone saw what the gameplay consisted of.

Main active McL content creator here. I can second most of the video. Except for the first 6 minutes. Issues you were talking about only apply to default and story difficulty modes. On highest difficulty mobs can't really do everything on their own. You need to be inside the battle and support them by knocking back smaller piglins. At the same time, it's much easier to die. On the video you received like 0.5-1 hp per hit while on highest difficulty it's often 3 or more. It's a game of strategy, managing resources, time and even your own health.
Unfortunately, on release you didn't get a choice of difficulty when launching the game for the first time. You had to leave the game and launch it again. And that was a huge mistake because the first launch was often the last one too. Tutorial (ending with destroying the purple portal. Yeah, it was stil just the tutorial) used to be much longer and less dynamic. These 2 things confused people (including you I guess) into thinking that's the actual game and there's nothing more to it. And that's where many negative reviews complaining about stuff that's only in tutorial come from.
As for the myths - Man, they're like an unfunny joke XD Not only are they expesive but also very simple, bugged, short and sometimes even annoying. Confusing RPG, 45-minute platformer, bugged Temple Runner ripoff, confusing and bugged Vampire Survivors ripoff with no items description, chess with bot thinking for 2 minutes. I bought them all and don't recommend anyone to do the same. You could actually buy a good cheap indie game instead of 1 of these.
PvP seems pretty simple because it wasn't even meant to have matchmaking. It was supposed to be friend vs friend only. It doesn't justify the simplicity though. Imo they should've released the game later but make it better at launch.
Comparing the game on release and now, devs made some progess. Tutorial is half as short, much more dynamic and the game overall is not a buggy mess anymore. There's also more content and much more QoL features. But it's not enough. After 2nd major update (a month ago) I started a new campaign and at first I was amazed how much has changed but it didn't last long. Except for lack of severe bugs, the second half of the game is pretty much the same.

Honestly, this game could have been an amazing typical style RTS instead of this weird hybrid thing.
Like...the idea of a Nether invasion is perfect for it.
Just to spitball an idea here, four factions. Villagers, Pillagers, Monsters, Piglins.
Villagers gather and build really fast but they are slow at producing troops because they're all based around Iron Golems. Pillagers, a strong military but crap at gathering resources. Monsters, cheap swarm faction by building dungeons. Nether, have to build portals to slowly generate infinite resources to build your army. You could use designs and mobs from Dungeons to give more troop variety and actually tell a story via cutscenes in-between missions.
The idea of Minecraft RTS has a lot of potential! Sadly this game squandered it and I doubt we'll see another shot at the idea after Legend's abysmal failure

I still think Minecraft legends is good, great story, a lovely new art style, the Combat system is ok, but it could be better, the Exploration is amazing & and I love the Troops, you can make a massive army. It’s a good game with mixed reviews (not all of them are negative)
