same here. 70 yo, same goal. All steps taken for the day is about 10K and have done that for many years. My first morning walk of 20 minutes helps my mind a lot and set me up for the day.
@@peterz53 @gaylevonderembse1456 You folks are awesome! I'l be 60 in December and in better shape than I was at 30 from walking daily for going on 3 years now. My goal is to do this into my 90's. I know it's hard as we age but I see lots of people older than me doing it! It motivates me very much.
Found you on RUclips and so glad I did. I printed off your step chart and I’ve been walking for 30 days. It helped to have a realistic goal of 10 minutes to start. I usually walk 30 minutes around my neighborhood and I’ve reconnected with so many of my neighbors! Another benefit! I enjoy your podcasts because they keep me motivated. Thank you for doing this for us! Here’s to walking and staying healthy!❤
70, two miles a day, 1 hour, AM, 118 mies since 7/18. Thank you for encouraging me. Everyday now it will change when weather changes shorter walks and trying to do get out there everyday.
On September 25, I listened to you on the Real WW Talk podcast. Since that day, I have been walking 10,000 steps six days a week. (Every Tuesday I take a horseback riding lesson instead. It was on my pre-retirement bucket list.) Thank you for your inspiration and company on my daily walks here on Vancouver Island! 🇨🇦
Dave, daily walking has changed my life. I’m 5 months in. I get 6-8k steps at work daily, then another 6-8k every evening. The benefits are off the charts. Thank you for your encouragement!!!
Hi, Dave, great options! 7500 steps or 30 minutes sound doable. I’ve another one: during Christmas time I choose the best Christmas lights outside… the neighbors don’t even know about my 'competition' 😂, but I enjoy it so much. Love, Monika❣
When I decided to commit to a daily walking habit starting in January 2022; my initial goal was 1 mile a day for a month. Then I added a little more distance every month. I didnt care so much about steps but distance. I didnt care about speed. I only cared about the commitment to the daily goal. I walked in rain and cold and the brutal heat an humidity of the Texas gulf coast in summer. I missed a few days since 2022 do to weather and a few to traveling or my business. But I have maybe missed 30 days of committed walking over the last three years. If I miss a day I feel like I'm off my schedule for the whole day. Since finding Dave's RUclips channel and Podcast he has taken my motivation to the next level. I will hit 2000 miles for the year in December which will average out to 10000 steps a day for 365 days. Oh yea and I went from 225lbs to 160lbs in less than 2 years from when I started my commitment to walking daily!
This is great advice Dave! Years ago a 78 year old, daily walker gave me this same advice. I love to walk but have a chronic illness that sometimes limits my walks. I was always hung up on if I can't walk far and fast then what's the point? My friend said to me "it doesn't matter how fast or how far you go, it's the fact that you're out here moving. On days when you feel good you will walk further and faster." (This same friend had a pacemaker put in (outpatient) and asked if she could take her walk that evening. The dr said "maybe you could skip your walk today." Her answer was "that's not an option!" 😀)
I am enjoying your podcast, and just started to watch some of your videos on RUclips. A recent Pat podcast, however was on walking without a phone and how that would cause problems at times. You mentioned the type of watch you were wearing, but I think I have a better solution. I have used the Apple Watch now for more than five or six years, now on my third watch. For $10 per month. I get complete phone service on the watch, hence can leave my phone at home, and receive calls, or an emergency make a call. It also calls 911, if I accidentally fall. In addition, it contains my music, my audible books, and keeps track of all of my exercises at the Fitness Center, and my walking.I strongly recommend that you look into getting an Apple Watch to resolve all issues.
Dave thank you so much for the Fitville tip and discount code! I just got mine and LOVE them! Plenty of room in the toe box and the heel seems to want to roll the foot forward. FABULOUS! It took quite a while to come here to the upstate of SC.... maybe 2 or 3 weeks but I really like them. About to take them for another walk! Thanks for your work to encourage walking!
I’m averaging 10-12k a day but really struggle to raise it more to get a 15k average. Really it would take 3-4 half hour walks plus shorter walks throughout the day. I definitely agree that even a 10 minute walk will help with many difficult thoughts/emotions. One way for me to sleep better is to ensure I take a walk after dinner and then a short walk about 30-45 minutes before retiring to bed.
Same here. But there is research indicating that mixing in short periods of fast walking during the normal walk adds a lot of benefit (more blood pressure reduction) so this might compensate for not getting the extra steps or even be better. It's called Interval Walking Training. 3 or 4 days a week I now speed walk for about 2 minutes out of every 5 minutes during my morning 20 minute walk. Can feel it in my legs and increased heart rate. The extra lactate produced is supposed to also help the brain.
@ yes 👍 I’ve got a video done by NHK television ( the public broadcaster here in Japan ) that focuses on exactly this. Their interviews with Japanese researchers show exactly as you say !! I do this 2-3 days a week or more and I feel the benefits for it ! Thanks 🙏 ✌️
Have just come back from my weekly group walk of about 55 mins then walk home again totalling 8,354 steps. I try and walk about 3 times a week. Maybe I should walk every day, but I don't always feel like walking, as you say, motivation and energy is sometimes lacking or am busy doing something else. Sometimes me and the wife go to National Trust places of historic interest and walk around the gardens as it all helps with the daily step count.
Just recently started listening to you and am so impressed and motivated. Thank you. I am 74 years old and strive for 10,000 steps every day.

Walking is therapy and makes everyday better. I know it's corny but just do it.
Corny, but wise!

You look in tremendous shape . Liked and subbed.

Love your podcast I am walking every day
Thank you!
Always fun to see your location, Dave; this spot is quite lovely. Where is this walk recorded from? Thank you for your videos.
Thank you! This is a walking trail around a lake near where we live in Myrtle Beach, SC

I am 72 years old and I go to the gym three times a week. It was suggested that I walk on days that I don’t go to the gym. What do you think?
Sounds like a great suggestion to me..😊
More important, what do YOU think?
I do a strength workout three times a week and walk every day…so, I guess, I like this idea. Thanks for watching!

Sir, do you know where the dementia risk mitigation begins to plateau?
The research I’m familiar with indicates around 11,000 steps
@@WalkingisFitness Thank you for your reply.
I like walking in different areas…otherwise it’s all the same in my area..just homes and concrete. Not too much scenery.
That’s one of the great things about walking…you can change it up. Thanks for watching!
I get my steps in going round the house cleaning as well as getting out and walking around the block so i mange to clock up 10,000 to 15,000 😊😊😊😊😊
I love this!
I walk ten minutes twice a day. Longer makes my leg too painful. I wish I could walk three miles at a time like I used to.
That must be so hard! I’m sorry you can’t walk the way you’d like. Thanks for watching
This path looks awfully familiar...I think we are neighbors.
That’s pretty cool! Thanks for watching
