Thanks for the feedback. Please let me know if you need me to demo any other of its functionality. By the way, have you installed Magic Lantern on yours?
@@RadCameraMan Yup! A cousin of mine gave it to me as a gift... I noticed your firmware version is: 1.0.9-mi-lua_fix.2. I only have 1.0.9 from the Canon (US) website, should I be worried?
I have installed an un-official firmware on my camera in order to enable video recording on the camera hence the weird naming. So nothing to worry about.
I switched to Canon digital in 2004 with the 20D, 10-22mm EF-S, 24-70mm f/2.8 L, 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS. I also purchased two 580ex flashes which I used with the extension cord and Stroboframe camera-flip bracket with off camera flash on a rolling modified IV stand, a technique I learned back in the 1970s when I apprenticed with and assisted top wedding photographer / teacher Monte Zucker. I upgraded to the 50D when it was released in 2008 and it was a big improvement over the 20D. I never converted to the Magic Lantern OS to shoot video on it because starting in 2012 when I purchased an iPad3 on which I was able to shoot, edit and upload video very easily. By then the people I shared photos with had iPhones and the bandwidth to watch videos so I pretty much stopped using my Canon gear for stills other than to cover events at my church and do portraits for friends when asked. I thought I might never buy another DSRL / Mirrorless Canon camera but retiring to coastal North Carolina along the Intra-Coastal Waterway inspired me to upgrade to a R6mkII and RF 100-500mm to shoot stills and video. The difference in IQ compared to the 50D is nothing short of amazing in part because the improvement in AI driven AF on the mirrorless camera makes capturing in-focus images of small, distant subjects a no-brainer. That said, for most other genres of photography the 15MP 50D with todays AI driven post-processing is more than adequate for shooting and posting still photos to social media. But for video I think better results will be obtained easier by shooting with an iPhone or iPac as I have for the last ten years.
I agree, shooting video with Magic Lantern is not intuitive. It has a steeper learning curve than all newer cameras and phones. Also, Magic Lantern documentation and help is poor in comparison to newer cameras/phones. For professional video work I think a dedicated camera is still required to fully control aperture, shutter, iso as well as being able to change lenses and benefit from a larger sensor but for everyday pictures and videos for non-professional usage phones are more than good enough. In fact if we compare them to 20 years ago they are better than cameras.
Thank you very much. I just inherited a 50D along with a dozen other cameras. Taking pics is one of my hobbies that has been on the back shelf for years. Looking forward to having a lot of fun with this one. Great information.
I'm glad it was useful 👍 I will make some more videos about the 50D and add them to the following playlist: ruclips.net/p/PL42hO7UHafKuSuBLaLhlZPBa8LIQ6qTfI
Amazing video, outstanding explanation! No fancy background music, no fancy editing just plain pure to the point content. I really loved it! One request though, could you please make a video on how to install Magic lantern on it? It would be really helpful.
Thanks for the positive feedback. I have already created two videos that explain how to install Magic Lantern on Canon EOS 50D. Please see the links to the videos below: ruclips.net/video/lG_udsHxQk4/видео.html ruclips.net/video/ijUQPdRsWPk/видео.html Please let me know if the video explanations are not clear, in which case I can create a new video with a better and more detailed explanation.
@@RadCameraMan Thanks for the links! I just checked out both the videos and it answered all my questions regarding installation of magic lantern. I must say your videos are "THE BEST" in quality when compared to other creators in this genre because your videos are very simple to understand and no background music, no useless fancy editing no bullshit, just plain pure content. Keep up the good work. You earned a new subscriber! ✌️
This was a very useful, insightful video . Thank you - I recently started exploring my old camera that I had not used much and was delighted to understand a lot of its capabilities through this video!
Very good and detailed review. I didn't know some features existed until i Watched this video. Very well done. I own the 50D and will never give it up, even though I own a mirrorless.
Thanks for this detailed and informative review of the 50D! I use the cam of my father some times when I visit my parants. The video helps to get more familiar with it.
If I understood you correctly on the previewing the depth of field, that is not a digital only function. My 1970s era Konica Autroreflex T3 35mm film SLR would allow you to preview depth of field before you shot in the viewfinder. I don't remember exactly how, but there was a way to pull the aperture to the set position without triggering the shutter. This is a very useful video. I just bought one of these and I couldn't get it to take pics unless it somehow got happy occasionally. I finally figured out that the autofocus was not working. On manual focus it shot pics fine. It turned out that from one extreme the focus mechanism would operate, but the focusing barrel would only drive in one position, which is weird. I would assume there are a couple of FETs in there that drive the focus motor either way and that one of them is toast. That is assuming they use one drive motor for both directions, which I would expect. It's always great when you buy a camera you don't know how to use and something is intermittently (seemed that way, anyway, until I figured it out) working, just to make it that much harder. Your vid allowed me to quickly figure a few things out and get to the diagnosis, so thanks. Too bad the lens is hosed, because it is the stablilized and wider focal length lens. Oh well, maybe I'll see if I can fix it. It looks like it's going to take a while to figure this camera all out, the features list is humongous compared to the Olympus 5050 that was my previous camera. It also looks like the video recording SW was never installed, so I will upgrade the firmware load. Anyway, thx. Looking forward to playing with this puppy. I got a great buy on it, too. Both of the focal length adjustment barrels feel like junk compared to the lenses I was used to on the 35 mm stuff I had, so I expect mine are the 'cheap' lenses. I will look into that and see if I can pick up a good lens 'reasonably', too.
Yes, the depth of field preview function is available in non-digital cameras where I think it is more useful because with digital cameras I can take a picture and disgard it without using up precious film. I think this is a good camera by today's standards even though it was released many years ago. Let me know if you have any questions about the camera or its functionality once you start using it.
Just ordered a 50d plus the ubiquitous 18-55mm ( Mark I ) plus a 550ex speedlite for 200 usd total on MPB . Will upgrade the 18-55mm to a Sigma 17-70mm very soon and upgrade to the 7d a little later . Super excited lol .
Thanks for detail information it's very clear, Can you give ur opinion, is this camera still good enought to shoot on wedding nowadays, i mean for job,?
Yes, it is still good nowadays for shooting weddings or anything else but if the shoot location is dark then it is not good. For example if the wedding ceremony is inside and there is not sufficient light then it won't be good. But if you are using a flash or good lighting then the quality will be good.
Well I'm figuring out a lot things out on my 50D so far including updating the firmware and making CF's . And just using the central focus point as you suggested has made a world of difference in getting in-focus shots ! I haven't shot a lot with it yet but I think that a circular polarizer will work nicely in a lot of cases with the 50D so that's next on my list . It's been a fun learning experience so far - now if only the sun would come out so I'd feel more motivated to go outside lol .
Nice, the best way to learn is to play with the camera and a lot can be learnt from the manual as well. I still look-up the manual when I want to do certain things. ☀ The lacks of sun can be a good thing sometimes since there will be less hard shadows in the photos.
The sun... wait, oh yeah... that thing that is out during the day... Yeah that would be nice. I'm using the 50d and going black and white, this forces me to look for composition and lines. I am trying my hand at minimalism, so far, not so good. I'm learning a lot. It is a pleasure to take out the 50d
Well my 50D arrived last Wednesday only 6 days after I ordered it so thumbs up MPB . No visible scratches or imperfections on the two lcds or sensor . Minimal wear on the body esp for the age and that it was only in the MPB "good " category . All the features and buttons seem to work perfectly so far . The rubber covers for the ports looked perfect but when I tried to open them they broke into pieces . I was a little dismayed at first but I see this is a somewhat common thing ( they harden with age ) and I ordered some cheap oem replacements on ebay . Hopefully I can overcome my usual mechanical incompetence enough to successfully fit them lol . I have to say the 50D is quite the chunky boy ! And steady as a rock when taking a photo . Loving it so far . A couple quick questions if you have the time - I shoot primarily in AP mode and at f8 generally so will it be to my benefit to restrict the autofocus to the central region for better autofocus and rely on the f8 aperture to keep the rest of the scene in focus ? Or is there some kind of algorithm magic going on with the focus points that makes them altogether to be in focus more what the f8 aperture alone would provide ? Can focus points be set globally or just in a CF ? ( Or even at all - I haven't done much more than speed read the manual so far lol ). What is your preferred way to auto focus the 50D to get the most reliable results ? Thanks in advance !
There is no advantage to having all focus points selected in terms of speed or having more of the picture in focus. If all focus points are selected, the camera chooses what to focus on, which is usually the closest subject to the camera. So the camera will choose one focus point out of them all and use the chosen focus point to obtain focus. This way you have very little control over what the camera is focusing on but this option can be good if you want to focus on the closest subject to the camera... for example if someone is running in a zigzag path towards the camera and you want to take their photo. I always set the focus point to the center focus point. The advantage of this focus point is that it obtains focus faster and is less likely to struggle in low light situations or where sufficient contrast isn't available. Also, I tend to use single shot auto focus as opposed to the AI Servo options but that is just to reduce power consumption so that the battery lasts longer. The focus points are set globally apart from modes that don't allow you to choose focus points and the custom modes e.g. C1, C2,... Once you experiment with various settings and find how you prefer to shoot then save that to the custom mode dials so that you can access it with a quick turn of the mode dial. This will let you experiment and change settings frequently but you have your known settings saved in the custom mode dial options. I am not sure if I answered all your questions but please let me know if I can provide more information or clarify anything.
@@RadCameraMan You answered everything perfectly well and thank you . Will try what you suggested as that sounds like exactly what I want out of the autofocus .Thanks again for taking the time for the detailed response ! I'm new to buying old (lol) and it just amazes me that I can now get a camera that I could only dream about having when it first came out for such a bargain price .
It is possible to use the Canon EOS 50D as a webcam via USB connection and software (EOS Webcam Utility) on your computer. There are also third party software solutions that provide this functionality. Alternatively it is also possible to use a HDMI capture device to turn the HDMI output of the camera's liveview mode into the webcam. A microphone will still be required as the Canon EOS 50D does not have a microphone or audio. Maybe I should create a step by step video instruction for this?
Excellent upload, was wondering when someone was going to mention the 50d. It was my first DSLR, and I have fond memories of shooting with it. I loved the shutter sound that it had, and was a bit disappointed when I tried the 60d, and then the 70d (although the 70d made up for it with dpaf) One error though, the 50d doesn't share the 7d battery, as the 7d uses the LPE6 just like the 60d and 70d. It is one of the reasons I got rid of my 50d, along with poor low light response.
Many thanks for your feedback. I corrected the error regarding the battery a long time ago but RUclips won't let me re-upload the video because it is almost identical to this one. Unless I delete this video but I don't want to delete this video since it already has some comments and likes :(
@@RadCameraMan I love it! Using it for almost 8 years now! Paired with Tamron 17-50 F2.8. It went with me thru cold, snow, rain, dust, sun and give great photos!
Nice 👍 It is still a good camera even by today's standards. I mainly used mine for sports photography as at the time of release it had one of the highest frame rates available.
I installed magic lantern but I saw that my 50d was draining the battery very fast so I uninstalled ML now my camera can shoot video without it. Do you know why it happened? Thank for the help. Beautiful footage.
This camera cannot record video footage using the default official Canon firmware. So using magic lantern or other third party firmware is the only way to record video using this camera.
When ML is copied to the Compact Flash card, the camera will use ML firmware instead of the official Canon firmware which is why you can shoot video. You can check the firmware name and version by going to the set-up menu 3. If you insert a new blank Compact Flash card the camera will revert back to using the official Canon firmware. Also, if press and hold down the "set/ok" button when turning on the camera, it will use the official Canon firmware instead of ML.
@@RadCameraMan The Mark II would be good and maybe you could mention any major upgrades or differences from the 7D,, thanks for your reply I really enjoy your videos 👍
There are three options as you learn more about your camera and photography you should progress through these options although option 1 is the easiest to starts with: 1. Use the Sports mode on the mode dial. In this mode, the camera will decide on the settings based on its interpretation of the scene with an inclination to select a fast shutter speed. 2. Use the shutter priority mode on the mode dial (TV). In this mode, you can select the shutter speed and increase the shutter speed until your pictures of fast moving subjects are no longer blurry and the camera will adjust the aperture and ISO sensitivity automatically. In my experience of shooting volleyball the shutter speed should be faster than 800 with a wide angle lens (the faster the shutter speed, the less motion blur unless you are looking for this effect). 3. Using the Manual mode on the mode dial, you can select the shutter speed and the aperture (depth of field) and set the ISO to Auto. This is the way that I shoot volleyball. So I decide on the shutter speed (typically around 1/1,000 - 1/2,000). My setting for the aperture depends on how much light is available and how much depth of field I want (sometimes I have to make a compromise depending on lighting conditions) but if I want one athlete to stand out then I set the Aperture to F2.8 and if I want everyone to be in focus then I set the aperture to F8 - F11. I almost always set the ISO to Auto unless the lighting conditions are predetermined such as in an indoor arena. Please let me know if I should provide more information or clarify any of the above.
You can connect it with a USB cable and transfer the photos. Alternatively, if you have a Compact Flash memory card reader, you can take out the memory card from the camera and insert it into your memory card reader which is connected to your laptop to transfer the pictures. This is the card reader which I use: amzn.to/44lTQyr Please let me know if I should provide more details about any of the above.
The Canom 50D does not have built in Wi-Fi however you can buy the Canon WFT-E3A grip to use Wi-Fi on this camera for transfering pictures. This grip also has a network port and a USB port so you can transfer pictures with WiFi, cabled network, or directly to a USB memory stick. Alternatively, without needing to buy additional accessories or complicating things, there are a few other ways to copy pictures to a phone: 1. Transfer pictures to a computer using a USB cable and then to your phone from the computer. 2. Take out the memory card from the camera and use a card reader to transfer it to a computer and then to a phone. Please let me know how it goes and if I can provide further information.
hi, i bought a new SD card and formatted it on my pc for my camera but my camera says it’s not formatted still and i can’t format it with the camera because the camera says it’s too busy and that it just can’t be formatted. what do i do?
The Canon 50D does not support SD cards. It requires a Compact Flash card which should ideally be 128GB or less. If you use a 256GB card then it needs to be formatted on the computer using a third party software to set the allocation unit size to a large size. 1. Can you please let me know what is the card that you bought? Brand? Size? etc. 2. Can you please let me know the version number of the firmware on your camera?
Hello friend. I recently got a 50d, and it was working perfectly fine. I tried turning it on and it wont now. I tried all of the turn on buttons and it wont work. Replaced batteries and everything!
The only recommendation I have is to take out the memory card and battery then fully charge a battery and insert it but without the memory card then try to turn it on. If that doesn't work then the best option is to have it repaired by a Canon specialist but financially that might not be feasible.
There are two ways to do this. 1. Connect the camera to your laptop using a USB cable and copy the files across. 2. Take out the memory card from the camera and insert it into a memory card reader which is connected to your laptop (assuming you have a compatible memory card reader).
A friend of mine gave me her 50D it's only been turned on a few times, she hasn't used it in 6 year's I'm a beginner,I like animals, bird's landscape and pictures of fish I catch or trout jumping etc I also like taking photos of people surfing. Can you get poloroid lenses for taking pictures of beaches etc
I have never used lenses which are polarised themselves but always used lenses with filters. In my opinion the best approach is to get polarized filters which you can attach to the front of the lens. You can then re-use the same lens with different filters or re-use the same filter with different lenses assuming they fit the lens. Alternatively you can get a filter mount with square filters that you can use with any size lenses. I am not sure if that answers your question, so please let me know if you would like more details?
Yes, the Canon 50D is very good for macro photography because its sensor has small photosites which can capture high level of detail when photographing small objects. You can use it with both EF and EF-S lenses to take macro shots. I highly recommend that you use a macro lens for this purpose as well as plenty of light.
@@RadCameraMan No, I am just starting photography and I have a used 1000d arriving friday with battery grip, 2 lenses and a flash so I think its a good starter but I thing I will upgrade soon to like an m50 or something, maybe a 2000d who knows :D
1. Yes, it has a clean output for video but you have to install the Magic Lantern software first before you can use the video functionality. Since the camera doesn't have video functionality with the manufacturer's default firmware. 2. Yes, you can get dummy batteries for this camera (Canon ACK-E2 AC Power Adapter & DR-400 DC Battery coupler kit). Please let me know if you want me share exact product details with a link.
I haven't used the canon wft-e3 with a smartphone but since you can connect using wi-fi or usb, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to do so. If you are using a USB cable then it should be straight forward as the smartphone will be treated like a usb storage device. If you are using wifi or ethernet then since a specific mobile app doesn't exist for it, you may need to configure things yourself to get it to work. How are you planning to transfer the photos to your smartphone?
hi i have ef-100-400mm L series and i want to buy a 50D for a low budget body ,do you think the image quality will be good for aviation photography? thanks
Yes, the L series lenses are really good quality and since the Canon 50D has an APS-C sensor the extra magnification will be good for aviation photography. The camera's image quality is really good in bright conditions and will work well with this EF lens. The only scenario which it will not be good is for low light conditions.
Yes, but it depends what you want to use it for. For photography, it is still a really good camera with a high build quality and it takes high quality pictures unless you want to use it for really low light situations. For video it is better to go for an alternative option. What are you planning to use it for?
Yes, in my opinion it is perfect for the type of photography that you mentioned. Also, this camera is very cheap at the moment so it is definitely a bargain. Regarding relatively still subjects such as models or weddings, you can take really good sharp pictures... and you have the option to use both EF and EF-S lenses. Regarding motorbike races, this camera is very good as it has a high frame rate combined with a fast CF card that will let you shoot high frame rates without much buffering but plese make sure you buy a fast CF card to benefit from the speed. The camera doesn't have subject tracking so you have to move the focus point manually yourself but in my experience this wasn't a problem when I did sport photography particularly with motorbike racing the path is predictable so it is easier. Two tips regarding sport photography: 1. The center focus point works faster than the other points. 2. Your lens makes a huge difference in focus speeds so it is worth investing in a lens with fast focus if you will be doing sports photography. Please let me know if you buy the 50D and want suggestions for lenses or peripherals.
Hi Sir, I am currently having problems with my Canon Eos 50D since the focus of the camera is no longer in my control. I've tried my research in different websites and I still didn't fix my camera. I was hoping you can help me? Thank you for this video by the way.
Can you please explain the problem in more detail as to what happens when you try to use auto focus? Also, please let me know which lens and Canon firmware version you are using.
I want to buy used Canon 50D for 70$ but since its used I am scared it will stop working soon because of the shutter count limit... Is it good to buy it if it have 15k shutter count or should I try to find one with lower?
15k is a really low shutter count which is really good in my opinion and I think you should buy it since the price is also good. I believe the camera is rated for 100,000 actuations but people have managed to use it for well over 200,000.
Only the JPEGs are affected by the sharpness setting. Although it is worth being aware that even when shooting in raw, a jpeg version of the image is displayed on the LCD screen so it is worth adjusting the sharpness level regardless so that the preview of the image on the LCD more closely represents the actual outcome.
Camera Warrior Oh okay, that's what I thought. I got the tip elsewhere of actually ramping up the sharpness in order to easier gauge your focusing. I don't think you'll be fooled, as long as the focusing is deliberate. Thanks for a great guide and your reply.
Yes, I think $100 is a reasonable price for the body only. You can also check the auction website eBay to verify that the price is good. Please keep in mind that you need at least 1 lens and 1 Compact Flash memory card to use the camera. I assume the camera comes with a battery and a battery charger. Please let me know if I can provide more information?
There is a menu item called "Flash control" where various flash related settings can be configured. In that menu go to "Flash firing" and change the setting to "Enable". Also on the front of the camera next to the "EOS 50D" label, there is a physical button for making the built in flash pop up open. Please let me know if I should make video to demonstrate flash functionality & menu items?
@Tengku Muliya I created this video to show how the built-in flash works on the Canon 50D camera. ruclips.net/video/3yzf2xSs1zU/видео.html Please let me know if I can provide further information or demo a functionality.
I bought my camera in UK from an official distributor of Canon products. However the U.S. version is identical to my knowledge. Can you please double check the model number and post a link to where you purchased the camera from?
😂 I have never used that camera but it seems like its features are very similar to the 50D (sensor, lens mount etc.). The only disadvantage in comparison to the 50D is probably how many pictures it can take per second, which might make it more demanding to get the right shots when photographing fast moving action/sports.
I am assuming that you are referring to red squares (superimposed AF points) as opposed to the green filled circle (focus confirmation light) in the bottom right hand side of the viewfinder. If you set the mode dial to M, then press the menu button and navigate to "C.Fn III:Autofocus/Drive", then navigate to sub-menu 4. There you can set the Superimposed display to "0:On" or "1:Off". Set this to "0:On" to see the AF points blink. Aside from the above setting which you can change, I have provided some information below in case it help explain the behaviour of the camera. In the majority of automatic modes (on mode dial), this setting is not available for changing but instead it is configured automatically by the camera. Even auto focus points are auto-selected by the camera in the majority of automatic modes. If the auto-focus setting is "AI Servo AF" then the AF point will only blink once at the start of pressing the back button autofocus or half pressing the shutter button. It is only in the Sport mode which they don't blink at all because it is assumed that the superimposed AF point would be distracting and focus lock cannot be obtained when subjects are constantly moving. In other modes the auto-chosen AF point(s) should blink and obtain focus lock. When the mode dial is in Sport's mode, the camera will use ALL AF points to judge which subject it should focus on which is the subject closest to the camera and since it is in "AI Servo AF" setting it won't blink but continuously obtain focus on the auto-detected subject. Please let me know if this doesn't solve the problem or if I should provide more information.
No, there is no way to connect a microphone to the Canon EOS 50D however you can use a separate audio recording device and sync it with the video in post processing.
@@440melody The "Zoom H6" is a good recorder amzn.to/45ZHsVr If you want to spend less money then you can buy one of their older models or similar devices from Tascam.
Great video! I was just given a canon 50D. It won’t format a CF SanDisk Extreme 32gb, so I bought a CF Transcend 8gb and it won’t format that either! Any advice?
1. Try formatting it on a computer instead with a Compact Flash card reader. 2. Try the more primitive types for the file format when doing the formatting such as FAT32.
One more possibility could be that the write switch on the compact flash card is in a write protected state which means it cannot be formatted. In which case you can flip the physical switch and format the card in the camera. Can you please let me know what error message you receive?
@@RadCameraMan when I try to format on the camera it’s says “unable to format card”. I already figured that I need to update the firmware as it’s never been done. But I can’t complete that step without formatting the card😔

@@RadCameraMan Yup! A cousin of mine gave it to me as a gift... I noticed your firmware version is: 1.0.9-mi-lua_fix.2. I only have 1.0.9 from the Canon (US) website, should I be worried?
@@RadCameraMan Yup! A cousin of mine gave it to me as a gift, since they weren't using it anymore.

Many thanks for positive feedback. By the way, have you installed Magic Lantern on your Canon 50D?

Best video on 50D EVER!!!
Thanks for the feedback. Do you have the Canon EOS 50D?
Thanks for this detailed and informative review of the 50D! I use the cam of my father some times when I visit my parants. The video helps to get more familiar with it.
thanks, please let me know if I can provide further information or assistance.

That is a good price for the package that you bought. Let me know if you have any questions once you start using it.
@@RadCameraMan Thanks CameraMan ! I just noticed that you have more videos about the 50d so I'll be checking those out for sure .
Thanks for detail information it's very clear,
Can you give ur opinion, is this camera still good enought to shoot on wedding nowadays, i mean for job,?
The lacks of sun can be a good thing sometimes since there will be less hard shadows in the photos.
The sun... wait, oh yeah... that thing that is out during the day... Yeah that would be nice. I'm using the 50d and going black and white, this forces me to look for composition and lines. I am trying my hand at minimalism, so far, not so good. I'm learning a lot. It is a pleasure to take out the 50d
Fantastic video! Really well done. Thank you
Many thanks for the positive feedback. Please let me know if you need me to demonstrate any other functionality or feature.
Thank you for this very good explanation, lots of good tips
Thank you 😊
Well my 50D arrived last Wednesday only 6 days after I ordered it so thumbs up MPB .
May I know how to connect Canon EOS 50D Camera to laptop? As a webcam

I don’t know why but now is shooting video. And I have not ML installed now.
Great job on this review, I would like to see you do a review of the 7D
The first 7D or the 7D Mark II?
@@RadCameraMan The Mark II would be good and maybe you could mention any major upgrades or differences from the 7D,, thanks for your reply I really enjoy your videos 👍
Can you give me the best camera setting for shooting fast moving sports. Like volley ball?
There are three options as you learn more about your camera and photography you should progress through these options although option 1 is the easiest to starts with:
This video helped me alot. Thank you!
I am glad it was useful. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions that I can answer about this camera.
By any chance, does anyone know how to transfer photos from the 50D to laptop?
You can connect it with a USB cable and transfer the photos. Alternatively, if you have a Compact Flash memory card reader, you can take out the memory card from the camera and insert it into your memory card reader which is connected to your laptop to transfer the pictures. This is the card reader which I use: amzn.to/44lTQyr
Please let me know if I should provide more details about any of the above.
am i able to transfer the pictures from my fathers camera onto my iphone? i don’t see a wifi setting or anything like that.
Alternatively, without needing to buy additional accessories or complicating things, there are a few other ways to copy pictures to a phone:
How do you upload the photos to your laptop using this camera?
There are two ways to do this. 1. Connect the camera to your laptop using a USB cable and copy the files across. 2. Take out the memory card from the camera and insert it into a memory card reader which is connected to your laptop (assuming you have a compatible memory card reader).
A friend of mine gave me her 50D it's only been turned on a few times, she hasn't used it in 6 year's
I'm a beginner,I like animals, bird's landscape and pictures of fish I catch or trout jumping etc I also like taking photos of people surfing.
I am not sure if that answers your question, so please let me know if you would like more details?

is the D50 good for macro shots of plants and insects? i have a ultrasonic 28-200mm and 70 - 300mm lens
Yes, the Canon 50D is very good for macro photography because its sensor has small photosites which can capture high level of detail when photographing small objects. You can use it with both EF and EF-S lenses to take macro shots. I highly recommend that you use a macro lens for this purpose as well as plenty of light.

Does this camera have a clean output for making live videos? Does it have dummy battery?
Does the wi-fi battery grip enable you to transfer photos to smartphones?
@@RadCameraMan thanks a lot for the answer 😊
is this camera still worth it in this year?
Yes, but it depends what you want to use it for. For photography, it is still a really good camera with a high build quality and it takes high quality pictures unless you want to use it for really low light situations.
For video it is better to go for an alternative option.
What are you planning to use it for?
@@RadCameraMan I want to use it to shoot models, prewedd, weddings, and photos of motorbikes during races... is it still good and worth it for all?
Two tips regarding sport photography:
1. The center focus point works faster than the other points.
2. Your lens makes a huge difference in focus speeds so it is worth investing in a lens with fast focus if you will be doing sports photography.
Please let me know if you buy the 50D and want suggestions for lenses or peripherals.

Does the sharpness setting affect the actual raw image or just the jpegs?
Only the JPEGs are affected by the sharpness setting. Although it is worth being aware that even when shooting in raw, a jpeg version of the image is displayed on the LCD screen so it is worth adjusting the sharpness level regardless so that the preview of the image on the LCD more closely represents the actual outcome.
Camera Warrior Oh okay, that's what I thought. I got the tip elsewhere of actually ramping up the sharpness in order to easier gauge your focusing. I don't think you'll be fooled, as long as the focusing is deliberate. Thanks for a great guide and your reply.
could a friend sell it to me without optics, only the case for $100 is it worth it?

That is really weird. That sounds like the 550D instead of the 50D. Are you sure it is the same camera?
Oops, it's the 500d. Shows what l know!
😂 I have never used that camera but it seems like its features are very similar to the 50D (sensor, lens mount etc.). The only disadvantage in comparison to the 50D is probably how many pictures it can take per second, which might make it more demanding to get the right shots when photographing fast moving action/sports.
I have a canon 50d i just noticed the autofocus selection in viewfinver doesnt blink. It will blink when i on automatic selection any advice?

1. Try formatting it on a computer instead with a Compact Flash card reader.
2. Try the more primitive types for the file format when doing the formatting such as FAT32.
