Another great video! Sorry to hear that you've been totally hassled by the scammers. I lived in Playa del Carmen for 4 years and it's partly why I left. The irony is it's so short-sighted and likely will completely turn off future visitors from wanting to come to their country but unfortunately those people don't care, they're thinking "I'll never see you again so I'm going to do whatever I can to get money from you." Don't get me wrong, I understand it from their perspective, they're desperate, but it also makes it's so unpleasant for visitors that this constant badgering will likely ruin tourism in their country.
if you live there they know your face after a short time and stop bothering you as you are a local... at least thats how it worked for me when i lived there for a year in the past :)
You're lucky! When I would walk down Quinta Avenida over my four-year period they would still hassle me. The odd thing was whenever I was pushing a bicycle the hustle would stop.. I guess the bicycle was this sign that I was a local. 🤔👍😆

July is not the tourist season so it’s slow and it’s warm, been going to the DR since 1998 yearly but Las Terranes for the last 6 years and we continue to go in January into February. You were so close to eating at one of the Pescadore Shacks as I call them and we eat at Playa Dulce….. Dulce cooks you up a meal you won’t forget and her coconut sauce is to die for !!! The Pescadore burnt down in January 2024 but have been rebuilt!

That's my experience of the Dominican Republic too! Lovely nature and beaches but the worst place I've ever been to when it comes to scams! Makes me not want to return.

Just went to El Limon today with a tour. Was pretty dissapointed about it. We were thrown out from our packed buses at an entrance to the area with all the horses. Shitloads of people and it appeared to me that it was the only way to get to the falls. We walked the "trail" and it was a horrible experience to walk through extremely muddy paths full of horsepiss.. At the falls I felt like I was in Disneyland. Loud music, annoying people all over and we just had like 20 minutes on site which was ridicoulous. I'm sad to see that its also possible to do it by yourself in a way more relaxed way.. Love your videos and hope that I can see some other places you guys have just visited 💯
When in playa Bonita. You have stop at la mosquito to see Phillip and his dad (the owners) for great drinks on the beach and the restaurant in front of turtle lagoon, the owner makes an amazing grilled swordfish/tuna and coconut rice (some of the best I’ve had). We actually stayed at a condo on top of that restaurant. Carolina surf school right next to mosquito is great, Caroline is a awesome person. All good vibes

Scammers and crowds ruin the experience for us. We saw a similar scam in Costa Rica for the Manual Antonio National Park. When they spotted a gringo rental car, they aggressively tried to redirect you off the road into overpriced parking where the scams awaited you. There are so many other options in the Caribbean where you can enjoy nature without crowds and walk on a beach safely at night. Alas, they are not as inexpensive as the Dominican Republic but they are still reasonable. We really adored Nevis. Beautiful beaches, ringing a volcanic mountain. Really enjoy your videos. They beautifully tell the story of what a place is really like. I'm curious how you would rank the places you have jumped to both as a vacation and living as an ex-pat. We are planning a trip to Portugal next year inspired by your visit. The Algarve region looks fantasical!
Nice video, but sad that you just don't went in front of the first french restaurant, behind the cementery there are a lot of little local small restaurant (beach front) and own by Dominican families and with no tourist fees.... Next time :)
Hey Chris, your fish was with Mango Chutney...if you spent time in Goa, Mango Pickles & Chutneys were invented there. We eat Mango Chutney with Grilled Pork Chops, Chicken Curry & yes even with Fish. It is definitely not a dessert!
Intimidation and scams by locals in D.R. are unfortunately commonplace. Many travelers are one-time visitors even though some areas are extraordinarily beautiful! Great video!!
That's because you guys are in the local community and people are trying to make some pesos and they want you to pay for the ride on the horse. It might feel like a scam but in reality they are just trying to make a living. But I'm glad you found the way

20:06 looks like Binalayan hidden falls in Samboan, Cebu 21:26 like Tumalog falls in Oslob, Cebu. Glad you were able to shy away from hecklers. Be very careful in all your travels and just be aware of your surroundings. When I was in DR, I stayed in an all inclusive resort but then went out to other touristic areas with a tour group so I felt safe all the time but still even in the resort, the beach area has these kinds of people offering you merchandise and tours the resort isn’t part of and doesn’t recommend. It’s your discretion and risk to take their offer rather than the legit recommended by the resort. DR is beautiful and hope tourism will be well managed by the locals so more tourists would come and try off beaten path not be put off by negative reviews and uncomfortable experience
Greetings my favorite vloggers. I love the waterfalls, but then they are always a calm place to be. I was shocked at the amount of people as it was to many for me. I loved the look and height of the second waterfall, but the smaller one was more peaceful and just as beautiful in its own way. Carol, what is the stone on that lovely necklace you are wearing? it has had me guessing the whole time. The beaches were nice and I really enjoyed the drone footage Chris, the master of the sky videos. be safe and sorry about all the scams going on. There's many routes to the waterfalls, I usually take one that's less up hill? Since I don't like horse riding is a nice walk like 20-25 min walk, but there's people that like the horse thing but the guide may be good if is the first time due to the hills that may be a bit dangerous
