Apart from Bahia de las Aguilas, which you should definitely mark as one of your next destinations, there’s also a few others spots that might actually top Las Terrenas (which is pretty hard, IMO): 1) Miches (which is poised to explode as the new main tourism destination, considering the investments that are being made from mega corporations). Over there, look for playa Esmeralda, playa Costa Esmeralda, and playa El Limón. 2) Playa La Ensenada and Punta Rucia which are located west from Cabarete / Puerto Plata. From Punta Rucia you can take a quick boat to Cayo Arena, which is a sand bank that makes you wish you didn’t forget your snorkeling gear. 3) And going far more northwest, you can find Playa Buen Hombre (best kept secret of kitesurfers) and even farther you’ll find Montecristi, specifically Playa Juan de Bolaños. You should make those 4 your next destinations. Also, while in Las Terrenas, check for the hidden gems that you can find in Las Galeras, such as Playa Madama.
I am a Dominican watching and loving your videos from the USA. What I love the most is how you present our greatness and shortcomings with a lot of respect. Stay safe and keep up the good work.
This was exactly the video I was looking for because I was trying to decide between the two locales for possible property myself and you addressed pretty much everything down to even the size of the waves which is a consideration for me. I love big waves and wind so it's Cabarete for me! Thanks so much for your continued upbeat and informative content❤️😊 congrats on 100k!
Las Terrenas becomes extremely crowded starting “Holy Wednesday” (starting April 13th this year). Usually lots and lots of people from Santo Domingo prefer spending the Easter Vacation over there. Just letting you guys know, so you don’t get scared seeing so much people when it is usually not crowded at all in Las Terrenas. That is why when I go over with my family, We try to avoid those days and just spend a few days BEFORE Wednesday / Thursday. If I see you next week, I’ll definitely say hello. Love your content, by the way.
Thank you for such a great honest reflection on Cabarete , the north shore and the magic island and its people. Living here greatfull since 32 years doing watersports, i can only confirm your passion and love ❤ for Dominican Republic and its people.
This video was so well done, and very informative. I can see that choosing where to stay would not be an easy one for us. The beaches in Las Terrenas really are gorgeous. I love being able to swim in the ocean, and would be out there forever. Also love the European vibe. BUT, I also love how Cabarete is so walkable. We also enjoy getting to know locals, and seems like that would be more likely in Cabarete. Dining with our feet in the sand - BONUS! You've given us a lot to think about should we ever make it to the DR. I'm thinking a couple weeks in each would be the best way to go! Thanks for a great watch! - Coreen
Congratz on the 100K :) well deserved! For me its a 10:0 win for Las Terrenas ;) nothing beats the beaches and lush tropical nature and natural Palm Trees everywhere! Plus the Quad lifestyle is a dream to be experienced... on an work related note: Las Terrenas will get Star Link by next year latest. Which will give it great internet.
Great video. My wife and I spent last Spring/Summer in Cabarete and visited Las Terrenas for 2 weeks. We are in Cab. again for this Spring/Summer. I can say this video is very accurate. If we were not big kiters, I'd give the edge to Las Terrenas. Much prettier beaches and great vibe, but you can't beat the wind in Cabarete! It truly is a great country. If you go, don't be afraid to get out of town and see the mountains, get to know the people and help keep the beaches clean by picking up trash when you can, especially your own :)
Great video you two! I wake up every Sunday morning and watch you guys. You give a great perspective on the DR, but also on how to live your life to the fullest! Keep up the awesome work 😎
Thanks for answering my question a month ago about the best spot for Kite Surfing. I did go to Kite Beach for Kite surfing lessons and partied in Cabarete for 2 weeks. Ate local and treated my Kite instructor and staffs with bottle service at Ojo nightclub on weekends. I had a great time and I’m looking forward to returning for 3 weeks in December. Thanks again.
I want a mojito in Cabarete now ! Great video! I love your balance in gathering information with experiences about my beautiful country . Congratulations on 100k ! 🥰🥰
Another great informative video! Just returned from Punta Cana early this morning to a raging snow storm in Nova Scotia! Watching this from a hotel room in New Glasgow where we stopped on our way to CB after seeing too many cars and semi trucks off the road! Take me back to DR!
WOW !!! We have been binge watching your DR videos today and it is AWESOME to see the success of your channel the past few months. Truthfully as fellow Nova Scotians we discovered your channel in the middle of the pandemic looking for things to do in our Province and rediscovered your channel again looking for things to do in Cartagena on our upcoming 15 day Panama Canal cruise in 10 days !! First of all, love the videos and it was a amazing to see you walk into the restaurant that my girlfriend and I were eating at in Las Terrenas. My only quibble about your location rating between Las Terrenas VS Cabarete is that location maybe should be called ease to get to or accessibility
Thanks again for your Cabarete videos. I'm on my last full day of a 14 night stay in Cabarete. I spent my mornings working from an Airbnb in Pro-cab, mid day on a beach near Ocean Dreams and the rest working and watching kite surfers from El Cocotazo Cafe on Kite Beach.

Cabarete wins for me. My 3 "W"s are: Warm, Walkable, and Water. I stayed in Sosúa for a month and a half a few years back and it was a great experience. I stayed in Casa Linda. My only issue was that right outside of Casa Linda, it wasn't very walkable. It would've been nice to have some sidewalks in the community and on the outside that connects to the beach. This may be in the works, but right now it appears that Cabarete is more developed in this area. Great overview! Thank you.
Awesome video guys with great information! We have done the Punta Cana thing but we have a condo rented for Feb./24 at Ocean Dreams in Cabarete and are so excited to get out of cold Manitoba albeit a year away. Cheers and safe travels!!

Tip for anyone thinking about going to Las Terrenas, avoid going to Las Terrenas during semana santa(spring break), there will be a lot of locals from the city because of all the concerts they have during that time of year.
I'm Dominican and anybody who's reading this never go to Las Terrenas during that time (April) it's basically the same for spring break in Florida with the students, a chaos 😅😅
Great video guys. Missy was wondering if Anna is wearing an evil eye? Missy is a gem hound these days, and sells online so she always has an eye on these things. Missy and I need to check out this area.
Holy week is coming soon in DR, be aware of that because Las Terrenas gets super crowded like most tourist destinations, but :as Terrenas specially because is small, Santo Domingo the capital gets empty for those days, it's the opposite
You should feel sorry for yourself to be so cheap or think you are a winner to share this information. Poor people to have to work and drive and service for not even 10 us an h...hope you gave a solid tip and thank you when you left the poor uber Rider
@@marcusboehm2421 That is the price generated by the Uber app. Santiago is not a tourist city so that is a fair price there. If you take a private taxi it may be slightly less. Perhaps during rush hour it may be more. Uber rates vary according to location. While visiting Brazil I also found it to be inexpensive compared to the US.
I used Uber in Santo Domingo and is so cheap. I always tip as much or more as the trip was. I am an Uber driver myself in the States and I know how appreciated the tips are. And the gas in the Dominican is so much more expensive than in the US and the driving requires more patience. Definitely be very generous with your tips. Dominicans are the most friendliest people
Guys, I’m back watching the DR series taking notes 😂. I’m going to attempt to use my southwest companion before it ends at the end of the month. DR crash course. Do you guys know of any care rental service that allows you to pick up in one location and drop off in another? You guys make it hard to skip Cabarete, Las Terrenas, or Punta Cana….
Question: we were there for a month last year (Cabarete), and five weeks this year (Las Terrenas). We had 5-7 people with us at any time, and apart from me, every single person had stomach issues at some point in their trip… Some just had the runs, and others had vomiting too, and my sister even had a bit of a fever for 24 hours or so (I think hers was food poisoning). We were super careful about what we ate… we never drank or brushed with tap water, and we stayed away from uncooked veg at restaurants. Don’t get me wrong… we’ve already booked five weeks again next year (we love it there!). But I’m curious how it’s been for you? (I notice that you guys even eat the restaurant salads at times!).
@@rosiegirl7112 - never had issues anywhere else (my sister has in India), and we all travel a lot. Also, we had 11 different people visiting in total over the 5 week period this year, and every person except me got sick.
@@rosiegirl7112 - it is a DR thing for sure, and I don’t think it will change, personally. But I used hand sanitizer a fair bit this year, which may have helped me…
EGGs... that's the one thing here that at first didn't sit well with us. They aren't refrigerated basically. In North America they wash the outside of the eggs and then refrigerate them 👍 - Trevor
great Video. How about Noise-pollution... In general, the Dominican Republic is, in my experience, Super noisy. With Noisy Tailpipes from Moto-Conshos, and Cars with speakers the size of the backseat... Comparatively, how are both towns. (day-time and Night-time) thanks
Depend where you are. My town is very quiet except if you are in the main street with the transit. My house is 5 minutes away from the town so I do not hear no noise. We also love music so we do love noise Lol
Both places are beautiful as you have totally shown. I would have to go with Cabarete because of the ease of getting there and being able to walk to everything however I I do love the beaches in LT but I am curious now how do the beaches in Cabarete compare to Punta Cana?
Not quite sure about Las Terrenas but there are plenty of vets in the north coast and all major cities in the DR. Service is quite inexpensive as well when you compare to the US.
Great info, thank you. We are from Canada also and We are going to Las Terenass for a month next winter. I have one question, you mentioned water outages. Can you drink the water there or should we buy bottled water?
The truth is that cabarate is more develop than las terre as. But just wait a couple of years. You will see what I mean. Lots of development coming to El Cibao....of course that includes Las terrenas..just watch... love you guys....
Awesome video as always Trevor and Anna! Quick question about driving around the island. Is it safe to travel by rental car from Santo Domingo to Cabarete? We’ve heard driving on the island is pretty intense. I’m sure once your in the beach towns it is a bit easier, but we want to travel and see waterfalls, national parks, etc. We have driven in other Caribbean countries ( Dominica and Curaçao ) how does this compare? Thanks so much!!! Shawn
Driving from Punta Cana to Las Tarrenas in a rental car was a challenge for us...got held up by some “police.” Google translate helped us know we needed to pay them 50 bucks to get out of our situation. It was also a challenge to drive with gps. It took the better part of 6 hours to get there. Once we got there, I LOVED the place. Playa Bonita is AMAZING.
Another awesome video guys! Thanks! You hit all the important things but I definitely agree that everything just comes down to personal preference. My advice to anyone asking this question is Visit both! At the very least, one week in each spot but more is always better! You are bound to fall in love with one of them because I know I did! And it’s thanks to these guys here 👆🏼 And always watch out for bum splinters!! Lol
Unfortunately no! Had to get back to the grind in Ohio! I’m already ready to come back. I’ll just have to live vicariously through your videos for a little bit until my condo is done in LT lol
Buying a property in Cabarete because it has more to offer but to be honest I dont like the beaches there. I LOVEEEEEE the beaches in Las Terrenas, the color of the water, the sand, how calm it is. I can go in the water with my floating and just relax for 1hr while having a drink on my hand. In Cabarete's beaches you have to wrestle with the waves to get in and out.
Cabarete wins for me. Is closer to airports, has everything you need within 5km. Surfing, kiteboarding, nightlife, golf course, everything is also more reasonably priced. Cabarete is still underrated and still so much potential there. Ive been to LT its worth the visit, everything is more scattered there are different beach locations, more roads.

Dominicans are the most friendliest people
@@marcusboehm2421 you are correct.we need to be generous with our tips
Thanks guys I was wondering about Cabarete, are you still in LT?
We’re no longer there no 😀 - Anna
Guys, I’m back watching the DR series taking notes 😂. I’m going to attempt to use my southwest companion before it ends at the end of the month. DR crash course. Do you guys know of any care rental service that allows you to pick up in one location and drop off in another? You guys make it hard to skip Cabarete, Las Terrenas, or Punta Cana….
I am in Cajun Land Lafayette very nice neighborhood, but, have felt unsafe 3 times this year alone!
Good question but are these issues unusual for you guys when you travel in general? Just curious
@@rosiegirl7112 - never had issues anywhere else (my sister has in India), and we all travel a lot. Also, we had 11 different people visiting in total over the 5 week period this year, and every person except me got sick.
@@kristapedersen1828 So obviously it was something there, hopefully next year it will be better
Nice!
🤗
High end on entire north coast is Playa Grande just west of Cabrera…
Both places are beautiful as you have totally shown. I would have to go with Cabarete because of the ease of getting there and being able to walk to everything however I I do love the beaches in LT but I am curious now how do the beaches in Cabarete compare to Punta Cana?
Punta Cana beaches would be more like LT and not Cabarete 🤗 - Anna
@@DelightfulTravellers Yes that is what I thought. Hope you guys are enjoying your latest adventure!
I love las galeras Samaná!!!! Samaná is excellent place
🤗
Being Dominican and knowing the ins and outs of these towns, i would choose Las Terrenas over Cabarete 1000%.
Good to know! Why though? 😀 I'm sure people reading the comments would like to know - Trevor
Cabarete has issues with police corruption, drugs, prostitution. Overall Las Terrenas feel safer to me.
What about services like medical and veterinary for those of us with pets?
We don't have pets. Hopefully someone else can answer your question - Trevor
Not quite sure about Las Terrenas but there are plenty of vets in the north coast and all major cities in the DR. Service is quite inexpensive as well when you compare to the US.
hey guys, great video! If I want to stay in an all inclusive resort, do you prefer puerto plata, cabrete or samana? Thanks
Great info, thank you. We are from Canada also and We are going to Las Terenass for a month next winter. I have one question, you mentioned water outages. Can you drink the water there or should we buy bottled water?
Glad you enjoyed it. You can't drink the water no... bottled water is the way to go - Trevor
I miss you videos from the Dominican Republic. Do you have any idea when are you guys coming back to Dominican Republic? Thanks
We are definitely coming back to the DR later this year! 😊😊
The truth is that cabarate is more develop than las terre as. But just wait a couple of years. You will see what I mean. Lots of development coming to El Cibao....of course that includes Las terrenas..just watch... love you guys....
Thanks for watching Josh!
I always watch your videos.. you guys are 👍 great
Have you been to Las Galeras? Our fave landfall in the DR. Hard to get to. Not much going on. Just the way we like it.
Yes we have... there's videos on our channel on LG - Anna
Shawn
As long as you don’t speed and you pay very close attention while you drive you will be fine.
@@LuisRodriguez-tm1ld Thanks Luis. I appreciate the info.
What Luis said is correct. I'd add on if you give a moto or car space they will overtake you as well 👍 I'm entirely used to it now 😀
Driving from Punta Cana to Las Tarrenas in a rental car was a challenge for us...got held up by some “police.” Google translate helped us know we needed to pay them 50 bucks to get out of our situation. It was also a challenge to drive with gps. It took the better part of 6 hours to get there. Once we got there, I LOVED the place. Playa Bonita is AMAZING.
SOSUA OVER EVERYTHING !!!! 🔥❤️👊🏽😎
Another awesome video guys! Thanks! You hit all the important things but I definitely agree that everything just comes down to personal preference. My advice to anyone asking this question is Visit both! At the very least, one week in each spot but more is always better! You are bound to fall in love with one of them because I know I did! And it’s thanks to these guys here 👆🏼
And always watch out for bum splinters!! Lol
Such good advice Matty! Visiting both places for at least 1 week would be so helpful 😀 You still in the DR btw? - Trevor
Hear ya! Pros and cons… no question Las Terrenas beaches are the best!
