Why A.C. Milan and Inter Milan Split Up: The Milan Derby (Roots of the Rivalry)
The Milan Derby may not be the most explosive derby in the world, let alone within Italian derbies, but it certainly has an extremely unique history! This episode of Rabona TV’s Roots of the Rivalry takes a look at the history of AC Milan, the history of Inter Milan, and what lead to the split of the Milan Football and Cricket Club in 1908 into AC Milan and Internazionale Milano. The Derby della Madonnina is certainly one of the best derbies in football, at the shared San Siro Stadium!

Thanks for watching, everyone!
You should do Arsenal/Tottenham and Dortmund/Schalke too
Fantastic stuff as always! Love your channel. This was really insightful. Really glad you have a sponsor too, I know you don't do these for the cash, but fingers crossed you get more 😉
Knaussenheimer! Welcome back, stranger.
Do the merseyside derby!
Everyone knows why they split lol
There was a time when people care more about the Milan Derby than the El Clasico.
oh man that was so great back then. So many great players in serie A ronaldo,maldini,batistuta,totti,inzaghi,veron...
@@Makta972 Indeed dude. I miss those times as well.
Timliu92 would you say the nail was hammered into the coffin when AC lost their 3-0 lead to Liverpool in the CL final? Italian teams haven’t been the same since that imo
For me even now
@@LuxioV2 no. AC Milan beat Liverpool for the UCL two years later, while Inter Milan manage to won the treble 5 years later. both the Milan club was considered as Italian giants because they were Serie A title contenders until 2011-2012. both clubs have fallen from grace ever since their respective owners sold the majority of their club shares.
The Milanese rivalry is one of my favourites. It has genuine history and pedigree, but unlike the Roman rivalry, the fans don't act like animals.
Ahhh animals
Not enough passion then 🤷🏽♂️
Passion isn't stabbing each other like a bunch of unthinking Neanderthals.
Or throwing bricks at the other teams bus and getting your game cancelled.
Panteleimon Ponomarenko
It’s like Manchester City v Manchester United
"This wonderful night bestows us with the colours of our crest: black and azure against a gilded backdrop of stars. It shall be called International, because we are brothers of the world."

Ethan Workman technically Not a derby cuz the cities are pretty far away

Furthermore Milan and Inter had a lot of great players in common: Baggio, Ronaldo, Seedorf, Pirlo...
Zlatan
Inzaghi
Baresi family :)
Vieri, Balotelli,..
One of the best derbies to attend live. Great atmosphere. But no violence between the fans👍
Unlike other cities in Europe the support seems very evenly spilt in the city.
I love this derby.
A great city with two of the best clubs in the world.
Milan represents the Milanese pride, also because they have lots of homegrown youth players playing a lot throughout their history.
Inter is a bit classier and represents the international side of the city.
I'm an Interista myself, but I have deep respect for both clubs, also you aren't really Milanese if you don't hate Juve lol.
Inter classier? Let me laugh. Milan had class and fight in them back in the day. All Inter has ever done is whine and moan about everything.
@@TheTheMonkey93 inter is classier. Not in style of play, but in their way of showing themselves (though I do not know how Milan was before that disgusting piece of shit Berlusconi took over)
You can also see it in the design of the kits, the merchandise and the pre-match formalwear.
Milan is more powerful and passionate, while Inter is more elegant.
Inter merda e milan merda
Cazzate... gli interisti sono fasci, altro che international side of the city, LOL
@KDB Mah, tanto oramai anche gli ultras del Milan sono fascistelli...
25k. We coming for you T-Series

Good luck

Thanks for the video. Very informative. In the eighties, AC Milan was the dominant soccer team in the world and the Serie A was the most influential league. Thanks to the local TV channel that showed Serie A games, I followed AC.
Also in the '90s
brothers of the world. you cannot defeat that
actually you can

Shia Neuf still shit
@Shia Neuf is that why u have one of the most racist Curvas? Don’t forget Koulibaly
@@thatbg3357 the club hates these kind of fans, unfortunally you can't do nothing to beat them, Inter has a lot of young fans and most of the young boys in these days are also fascist
I know it is not well known in Europe, but a holy derby takes place in Poland. The Tri-city derby between Arka Gdynia and Lechia Gdansk. Its always epic.
I used love AC Milan it was my dad’s team RIP
We are FC Internazionale Milano and we are brothers of the world. I'd like to add that fans of both teams sat together in the stadium, we don't hate each other, we just like to exchange friendly banter.
Massimiliano Ligabue still fucking shit and racist
So how is the national team doing and milan on other hand o yeah u get it.
Milan derby is mother of all derbies....
@readzys videos WHAT????JUST WHAT??????????????????? ¿???????????
And the mother if all Derbies is Celtic v rangers, its a fight over religion the city and northern Ireland for most people,go to an old firm match and you will see passion and hatred
nah, it's Trump vs Kim

St Pauli vs HSV
St Pauli vs Hansa Rostock
Panathinaikos vs Olympiakos
Shamrock Rovers vs Bohemians
Cliftonville vs Linfield

Boca Juniors vs River Plate

Or maybe a friendly derby:
Athletic Bilbao vs Real Sociedad
@readzys videos are you high?
The "Red Cross" you see on European flags is called the St George’s Cross.
St George was a Roman soldier and a priest of the Guard of the Diocletian. During the Crusades, the soldiers would wear plain white tunics, thus the birth of a white background. The cross was used to represent this martyred saint in his religious capacities and was his emblem during his years of battle. He is considered a saint in the Catholic, Anglican, Eastern Orthodox and Oriental Orthodox churches.
The Pope had decided that all English Crusaders should wear red tunics with white crosses, while the French opted for red on white. The English then wanted to reclaim their emblem of a red cross on a white tunic and, in 1188, the kings of each country decided to exchange their flags.
However, some of the French soldiers continued to wear their old tunics, resembling the English. For this reason, the red cross on the white background eventually became the symbol for the Crusaders, irrespective of their nationality.
TL;DR: St George's Cross was used for the Crusaders as apart of "religious duty" to reclaim Christianity in Israel. By this time, majority of Europeans had converted to Christendom which then became the common de facto religion in the region.
As an Inter fan, I would say that this video is a good insight into the derby. It's not a fierce one (mostly like a cousin vs cousin) and the real derby is the match vs Juventus (Derby d'Italia).
P.S. the Moratti-Berlusconi era can be seen in the dressing room. Milan has chairs/seats (to feel like someone "divine") and Inter has just an oval form dressing room without any chairs/seats.
Livio Kokthi actually you're not even from milan or italy because here in italy, everyone know that the derby d'italia is inter vs juventus.Their rivalry is way bigger that the one between juventus and ac milan. You could ask every inter or juventus supporter and he'll tell you the same thing
@@liviokokthi guarda che per gli juventini c è rivalità solo con l'inter, per questo è il derby d'italia.

Wow 👏🏻 you answered all the questions that stock in my head for a long time , thank you so much ☺️
you are so very informative
Nice vid! Just a detail: A.C. Milan’s fans real and original nickname was (And still is) “casciavit” (Screwdrivers) due to their working class background - most of them were blue collars as you correctly stated. Nowadays the original social division doesn’t exist anymore but the casciavit nickname is still there.
i love inter Milan. they always have a few Argentine international players in their team.
Milan now has more Argentinian internationals than Inter. But yes historically you're right.
Nice video .. I am AC Milan fan ... but I like Inter too... but never knew that much deep history between these two club.. thanks for providing this information .... :)
An excellently informative video. Adds that extra bit of spice for the derby. Can't wait for it.
Do Liverpool and Man United roots of the rivalry
Alot more to Leeds and man u, war of the rose's goes beyond football
yeah that would be better as everton and liverpool used to be one club
Xavi Georgio Hey man, speaking as a United fan), while we are on a decline, I’d say we’re still on top.
Yeah the last 6-7 years have been our worst period in decades but we’ve at least still been picking up trophies and finishing above our rivals. Liverpool haven’t actually WON anything in that time.
But yes if the way things are going continue the way they are, this could be the start of a period of time where Liverpool become more of a force here and on the continent than us. And with that comes more power that isn’t quantifiable. Success brings success. I guess the only thing in their way at the minute is City.
Oh, what a time to be alive, eh? 🙃
@Roger Edmunds man u and lfc fans are peas of a pod then
Goes back before football all the way back to the civil war in England the war of the roses
Wonderful details added in this video... Really knowledgeable... Keep up the good work!!!
I'm sad about AC Milan's recent troubles. They're true European football aristocracy. Forza Milano!
@Truly The Boy That's something you'd only assume if you didn't understand what aristocracy meant. Begone peasant.
Really good video, I don’t know much about Italian football but everything I’ve heard about it is really interesting!
Thanks Adrian for sharing these information.
Nicely articulated, keep up the good work.

great video to watch before the game
Thank you for making this great video and let us now about the history of the two most iconic Italian clubs.Admin can you make the rivalry history between Inter Milan and Juventus..
He made it, you can search
beautiful video very well researched. A better way Milan and inter fans are referred is Bauscia and Caciavitt, wich literally translates to Saliva and screwdrivers. That is still a reference to class status, screwdrivers refer to blue collar workers and saliva is a typical Milanese way to refer to bourgeois people
Great video, maybe add a bit of Greek "flair" as well!
Panathinaikos vs Olympiacos, PAOK vs Aris Thessaloniki, PAOK VS AEK are some of the biggest derbies in Greece. I'd love to see a video on these from you.
Good vid bro, keep up. Good to see you progress this well!
great video. grazie!
great video , keep on the good work
Nice vid. Informative!
Loved it man.
Love your content and deep insight. Im getting smarter every day!
Great video!
You didn’t speak about their shared stadium. How does that work??
The city owns it and gives a part of the revenue to the teams for their matchdays. Hence the reason why they want to build a new co owned stadium without the city's ownership.
I love everything in this video including how the guy is pronouncing the Italian names with the spaghetti accent.
Very good explaining
Great video...subscribed
Yo, Adrian another great vid bro
Great job adrian, make this root of rivalry a series.
It is my man! Have done two others already. 😊

These videos are great. You should do Boca Juniors-River Plate
Good Video Mate!
Well, the roots of rivalty betwwen Milan and Inter are merely more 'plain' and simple than what you talk about. Anyway it was a pleasure to get to know the roots and history about this two great football teams. As an Italian, I didn't know anything of this and I really enjoy your video! Thumbs up!
superb video
I am a huge Inter and AC Milan fan, i always loved serie a since the early 90s, Juventus is awesome also, Sampdoria, As Roma and Lazio and lets not forget 1990s Parma AC other favorites of mine! 1992 and 1994 AC Milan , 2010 Inter and 1996 Juventus legendary italian sides!

A A you’re an ignorant prick. At least all our clubs are in the black, not fucking debt ridden and money driven like the English. The walls will collapse sooner or later. I love football but cannot stand what the English leagues and Champions league has become. It’s been absolutely ruined by greed and money. And for all your money you English mob still can’t come up here and beat our “Mickey Mouse” teams. Your national team couldn’t even beat Scotland, in fact you were fucking lucky to go away with a draw. You’re a fucking joke.
Very interesting!

Damn I never knew that inter had so much internal strife with name changes and stuff....thanks for the history lesson behind these two famous clubs...great vid.
Very well produced vid - keep it going. A small crib maybe, but maybe include the stats even in the background i.e. most wins, biggest win per team etc. I know that would either add time to production or take away from the main idea, but just a thought. Either way, it is a great vid with well timed props (gonna use the Inter quote) and well scripted.
Kudos ... and FORZA NERRAZZURI!!
Thanks for the suggestion man! Will look to include those in the future.
We get a Milan derby in this year champions league
Do East Bengal VS Mohun Bagan next. This is great work btw, keep it up.
Absolutely love these videos and this one was very interesting and brilliantly done. Please, however, stop saying scoreline with the expression "to", as in 2 "to" 1 ... thats simply not how the scores are read... it would be simply 2, 1 ... there is no need for the "to". Great video though, keep bringing these out!
I usually dont watch videos where one is just talkin their ass off in your face, but this was the first i watched till the end cause of the topic, and i liked it a lot.
Keeep up the good work bro :)
This derby was fiery. Back then lots of people expected more on Milan Derby than El Classico
As you have stated, Milan supporters were called "tramvì" and Inter's "mototretta" at the beginning.
However, more recently the nicknames changed respectively into "casciavit" (screw-drivers) for Milan fans and "baùscia" for Inter's, a term used to indicate pompous, upper-class citizens of Milano.
The funny thing is under Berlusconi Milan were known as the Hollywood divas.
