@StephenC1908this is what I was thinking yesterday.
Milan is only 3 away but they are currently weak.

@StephenC1908 yeah, taking into account the current squat plus Mbappe I think is difficult that Madrid will not win a couple of them in the next 5 years.
It is a very good squat already with a very good bench. You have people like Brahim or Guler in the bench full of talent.
And lot of players with a lot of experience already while being young.
People like Valverde, Vinicius, Rodrigo, Camavinga, Militao are basically veterans with less than 25 and already 2 champions won and a extra couple of semifinals played.
Plus Bellingham, Tchounami, Brahim with one champion and also less than 25. Bellingham only 20.
That’s crazy when you think about it. The experience matters a lot in champions.
And you are adding Mbappe, who is without doubt the best player in the world and who comes with all hunger for the Champions

Speaking as a Dortmund fan, this is pretty much what most of us expect. There was hope, but…well, as the saying goes…it’s the hope that kills you. We worked so hard to shut Madrid out, but hard work comes to nothing if you don’t take your chances.
Adeyemi ….he’s such a frustrating player, man! You can’t be 1 on 1 with a goalkeeper for 20 yards and not put the ball in the back of the net. It’s an absolute madness! And Fullkrug, even if he was offside, he had half the goal to aim for and hits the post. 🤷‍♂️ Oh well…it’s hard to be super angry when you lose a final to a team like Real Madrid. It’s just so frustrating because the chances were there. As always, Heja BVB 🖤💛

I believe many football fans and even pundits think Madrid is always lucky, because we aren’t used to teams anymore that dominate the game without possession.
Nowadays everyone wants a Guardiola type manager for his club, someone who micro manages every aspect of the game and wants to have the ball as much as possible.
It’s a nice irony of fate that the greatest coach of all time is the total opposite of that. Ancelotti just tweaks small aspects during a game that make a huge difference. His substitutions are always perfection.
Dortmund was the better team in the first half, but the only club itw that is comfortable with being worse is Real Madrid.
They know when to defend in a low block, be passive, let the opponent have the ball. Basically real knocked out city with a Milan esque defensive masterclass.
But real knows when to switch it up like no other club.
When they scored the first goal, all of a sudden they switched to a high line. Dortmund wasn’t even able to get out of their half anymore.
Then Maatsen makes the catastrophic pass due to all the pressure and this needs to be said too: real has in nearly every position an absolute legend of the game. Their individual quality is so absurdly high, ofc they score after every mistake from their opponents.

    • @jonbolton491
      @jonbolton491 2 месяца назад +8

This is a very reasonable take.
      1. A lot of people have forgotten what football was like before the Pep revolution. Even Wenger who loved passing the ball around criticized the excess dependence on possession without conversion.
      2. No other team in the world is comfortable inviting the opposition to do the playing.

I had Madrid as favorite because they have young guys and vets who won already the Cl. I was certain BVB lack of CL experience with there vets and young guys would showed up and it simply did on goal and on defense. Lack of man marking, defensive mistakes and lack of composure in goal. Madrid of experience of Curtiius making stops, Carvajal header from set piece and Vinicius capaltizing showed me they have experience in the final.

Madrid have earned the right to sit back and defend deep, they've earned the right to weather the storms, they've earned the right to not panic when losing even with time running out, they've even earned the right to play out for a penalty shootout and trust their nerve to win it, simply because they've passed all these tests multiple times before.
They always try to take every team they play into the deep waters of pressure and see how they handle it, and almost no one can handle it. When the likes of Bayern or City can handle it, they've shown that they have gears that they can go up to... Be it 2 goals in 3 minutes or last minute equalizers etc
So any team that's beats them needs to accept this possibility BEFOREHAND, don't worry or panic about whether or not they score late, mentally prep yourselves for them to do it, what made Manchester City win the treble was when Vinicius Jr scored that incredible goal against the run of play and they didn't panic, and De Bruyn scored his great equalizer when it seemed like they were gonna get run over, THAT was THE moment in the entire Pep Guardiola era at City, they finally accepted that losing was a possibility and played without that fear.
That's the only approach that can help you vs Madrid. Don't let your emotions run over be it if you're 2-0 up or losing

If you watched Dortmund, they tried to press Madrid, pushed them wide, and everything seemed to work. But honestly, it didn't. Why? From the first half, they pressed not only 3 or 5 players, they did with 6 players, it was crazy. But if you look passes completion of Madrid as twice as Dortmund had while passing accuracy, it is still above 90%. This means they pressed a lot but not affected Madrid possession. This was the issue for them, as we saw 15 mins after the 2nd half, stamina of Dortmund players were dropped drastically, and Madrid possession just getting better. At this point, the goal is just a matter of time when Carvajal scored the first goal they knew there would be second and third goals. Even if Dortmund had 2 goals cushions from 1st half, no guarantee that Madrid wouldn't come back. And once again, as a manager, against Madrid Terzic can't just have 1 plan in mind, he should be prepared for set piece, counter attack, through pass, switch play, sideline, even till penalty, injuries, and red card.

Courtois made a huge difference in the first half. Dortmund would have scored 2 in the first half if not for him.
Adeyemi had to go wide because Courtois blocked all shooting angles with his gigantic frame.
Fullkrug hit the post because he had to shoot more wide because of Courtois.

The best thing watching real madrid win trophies is celebrating with them and being happy for them for getting what they deserve for the hard work they have put throughout the season. The second best thing comes a day later when you see people spazzing out and foaming at their mouths like rabid animals when they invoke luck, voodoo magic, referees, uefa being on their side, the other team always dominating but somehow always ends up losing lmfao, these people think they have some arguments to make or that their opinion is maybe relevant but all they do is further entertain us RM fans with their idiocy. Hala madrid!

Commiserations to Dortmund and their fans, Hala Madrid to my fellow Madridistas.
Dortmund for sure outplayed us and unfortunately in football we know the caridnal rule, score or get scored on and once Dortmund didn't take their chances it felt almost inevitable as cruel as that can be at times.
Also thanks for the coverage all season chief 🫡🙏🏿. Can't wait to do it all over again. Hopefully the Euros and Copa America give us the minerals we got from AFCON, imma need maximum chaos in those tournaments with random upsets 😂❤👊🏿

I think it was just a difference in skill. You can say dortmund was unlucky in their chances, but with adeyemi 1v1 with courtois, courtois came out made himself big and pushed adeyemi to the side. Had it been vini 1v1 with a keeper like courtois vini would make that. You could compare the rest of their chances to that of their madrid counterpart. Madrid is just the better team with for the most part the better players. To me its simple. The quality and skill of the team is just worst then madrids. Competition aside if they met in a league match we could all agree madrid is the better team that would come out on top.
Ps. Unpopular opinion but i truly think marco reus is heavily overrated with a solid 2 good seasons and a decent one before then. He only a "legend" bc he never left his team. Many others never left their first team and werent deemed "legendary" for it.

Terzic should've have kept Adeyemi on. Yes he maybe should've scored but he was the only one who was a real danger. He played freely and was murdering Carvajal down that flank. If he wanted to put Reus in he should've subbed off the English brat, Sancho. The brat plays only when he feels like it while Adeyemi is constantly trying to get through and score. Sancho's career will be the exact same as Dele Ali's. Mark my words.

Hala Madrid ! This narrative that Real Madrid were at fault, being indecisive, not playing well is tiresome. How about giving Dortmund credit for playing hard and executing an effective defensive strategy. Real Madrid have been dealing with defensive issues/injuries all season. All things considered Real Madrid hung tough and came out strong in the 2nd half as they usually do. Dortmund didn’t really have the mental fortitude to win. It was there for everyone to see, when Carvajal scored, Dortmund completely deflated. Anyway it was a hard fought game, but it was inevitable that Real would win UCL #15. Hala Madrid - Los Reyes de Europa !!!

This isn’t a sleight at vini bc I get that he’s just playing the game. But 100% there needs to be further punishment for such blatant dives.
    1. Either actually enforce the rule and then vini gets a red, overall not good for the game not as entertaining.
    2. Or, harshen the punishments for dives so that players become scared of diving and then you get to avoid number 1 entirely
